The issue of environmental governance has received considerable attention. While extensive research focuses on the relationship between economic growth and environmental protection, this paper provides a different perspective by exploring the mechanisms affecting the relationship between land-based revenue and environmental performance. Based on the regression analyses of province-level data during 2000-2018 in China, the results show that: (1) land-based finance has a significantly positive impact on air pollution; (2) both central government policies and local residents' concerns incentivize local governments to improve environmental quality through land revenue; (3) regional differences exist regarding the impact of these two factors, probably due to various development stages and financial conditions; (4) local governments tend to increase expenditure on environmental protection by taking residents' concerns into consideration. This research contributes to understanding the driving forces behind the relationship between land finance and environmental performance, and it extends our knowledge of local governments' decision-making processes to accomplish multiple tasks. Designing multifunctional characteristic of MXene-based materials with high efficient electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is crucial for alleviating radiation pollution yet challenging. Nevertheless, the hydrophilicity of MXene-based materials may result in the reduction of electromagnetic shielding performance in humid environments. In this study, superhydrophobic, mechanically robust, and EMI shielding-effective composite of MXene/Wood (WP-MXene/Delignified wood) is fabricated via a facile and effective thermocompression combined with dip-coating approach. The MXene nanosheets are uniformly distributed in the hierarchical porous structure, which endows the WP-MXene/Delignified wood with remarkable mechanical performance with a tensile strength of approximately 111.4 MPa, and excellent electromagnetic shielding of 43.4 dB. In addition, such composite also possesses prominent waterproof property with a contact angle of 155.1°. The high-strength, superhydrophobic MXene-based wood with superior electromagnetic shielding performance holds tremendous application prospects for EMI shielding and energy-efficient buildings. • A waterproof, high-strength and EMI shielding composite of MXene/Wood is prepared. • The MXene/wood shows a high tensile strength of 111.4 MPa. • The MXene/wood exhibits excellent electromagnetic shielding of 43.4 dB. • It possesses superhydrophobic (water CA of 155.1°) and self-cleaning property.
