Abstract

Adaptation to out-of-distribution data is a meta-challenge for all statistical learning algorithms that strongly rely on the i.i.d. assumption. It leads to unavoidable labor costs and confidence crises in realistic applications. For that, domain generalization aims at mining domain-irrelevant knowledge from multiple source domains that can generalize to unseen target domains. In this paper, by leveraging the frequency domain of an image, we uniquely work with two key observations: (i) the high-frequency information of an image depicts object edge structure, which preserves high-level semantic information of the object is naturally consistent across different domains, and (ii) the low-frequency component retains object smooth structure, while this information is susceptible to domain shifts. Motivated by the above observations, we introduce (i) an encoder-decoder structure to disentangle high- and low-frequency feature of an image, (ii) an information interaction mechanism to ensure the helpful knowledge from both two parts can cooperate effectively, and (iii) a novel data augmentation technique that works on the frequency domain to encourage the robustness of frequency-wise feature disentangling. Abstract

Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) observations showed an obvious variation of ozone concentration during the annular solar eclipse on 21 June 2020 in the mesosphere and upper stratosphere. Ozone concentration slightly reduced near 40 km in the regions of 24°N–36°N, and increased in low latitudes at 40 km. In the heights of 45–60 km, the increase in ozone concentration in most of the regions was obvious. The ozone increases and decreases were more obvious between 60–65 km, where enhancement took the leading role. The nighttime ozone variation was weaker than the daytime in most of the heights of 30–65 km. The variation of HO2 and CO is investigated to study the photochemical and dynamical causes of ozone variation. As HO2 decreased at 1 hPa and increased at 60–65 km, ozone variation shows a mostly reversed relationship to HO2 variation. CO increased at 32–39 km and decreased at 52–60 km, which was related to the upwelling at these heights. The dynamic processes also contributed to the decrease in ozone concentration at 40 km and increase at 50–60 km. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Periodic interference is one of the most common interference sources in tunnel seismic prediction (TSP). This noise can deleteriously affect signal quality, and the signal can be completely drowned out by the noise in some cases, which can seriously affect seismic wave velocity estimations and TSP detection distance and detection accuracy. To solve this problem, a single-channel independent component analysis (SICA) based on the Hankel matrix and a singular value decomposition (Hankel-SVD-ICA) is proposed to suppress the periodic interferences. The traditional band-pass filters and notch filters are ineffective when seismic data and the periodic interference bandwidths overlap. In this study, we used TSP data to evaluate the Hankel-SVD-ICA method in detail. The Hankel-SVD-ICA was tested on synthetic recordings and field data, and the results showed that the method effectively separates the seismic data from data mixed with strong periodic interferences when seismic data and periodic interference bandwidths overlap. Qualitative and quantitative comparisons show that the Hankel-SVD-ICA provides better recordings than both the Hankel matrix singular value decomposition (HMSVD) and notch filters. The comparisons also show higher quality data and a more reliable P-wave velocity assessment when the Hankel-SVD-ICA is applied to TSP data, which significantly increases the detection distance and improves the lithological interpretation. Moreover, we study the Hankel-SVD-ICA method for frequency time-varying periodic interference suppression in TSP, and the results provide a good reference for suppressing periodic interference in other fields.

Abstract

Performing exact predictions of geological conditions for tunnel construction is important for ensuring safe and quick tunnel engineering. Weak effective signals and strong random noise are the main factors that affect the distance and precision of tunnel seismic detection. Considering that directional seismic wave (DSW) technology has the ability to enhance target signals and suppress random noise, we attempt to apply this method to solve the problems of low detection accuracy and short detection distance. However, the process of data processing with the DSW technique generates false multiple wave interference (FMWI), which can lead to the misinterpretation of geological structures. This study analyses the origins of FMWI and presents the random dislocation directional seismic wave (RDDSW) method to suppress this interference. The results of a numerical simulation indicate that the FMWI is effectively suppressed and that the signal-to-noise ratio of the data is increased by approximately N times through use of the N-element RDDSW technique. In the ideal case, only spherical diffusion attenuation is considered, and the detection distance increases by approximately $\scriptstyle\sqrt N $ times. In addition, this method is also effective for signals from curved events, thereby improving the precision of the analysis of the geological structure of the tunnel. Furthermore, the field data results further verify that the RDDSW technique can significantly suppress interference and thus improve the quality of the data at little cost. Hence, the RDDSW technique has great significance for accurately predicting the geological structures of tunnels and increasing the detection distance in tunnels.

Abstract

Abstract Background Neuroinflammation plays an important role in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. The P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) has been reported to be involved in the inflammatory response of many central nervous system diseases. However, the role of P2X7Rs in transient global cerebral I/R injury remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of inhibiting the P2X7R in a rat model of transient global cerebral I/R injury, and then to explore the association between the P2X7R and neuroinflammation after transient global cerebral I/R injury. Methods Immediately after infusion with the P2X7R antagonists Brilliant blue G (BBG), adenosine 5′-triphosphate-2′,3′-dialdehyde (OxATP) or A-438079, 20 minutes of transient global cerebral I/R was induced using the four-vessel occlusion (4-VO) method in rats. Survival rate was calculated, neuronal death in the hippocampal CA1 region was observed using H & E staining, and DNA cleavage was observed by deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated UTP nick end labeling TUNEL). In addition, behavioral deficits were measured using the Morris water maze, and RT-PCR and immunohistochemical staining were performed to measure the expression of IL-1β, TNF-α and IL-6, and to identify activated microglia and astrocytes. Results The P2X7R antagonists protected against transient global cerebral I/R injury in a dosage-dependent manner. A high dosage of BBG (10 μg) and A-0438079 (3 μg), and a low dosage of OxATP (1 μg) significantly increased survival rates, reduced I/R-induced learning memory deficit, and reduced I/R-induced neuronal death, DNA cleavage, and glial activation and inflammatory cytokine overexpression in the hippocampus. Conclusions Our study indicates that inhibiting P2X7Rs protects against transient global cerebral I/R injury by reducing the I/R-induced inflammatory response, which suggests inhibition of P2X7Rs may be a promising therapeutic strategy for clinical treatment of transient global cerebral I/R injury.
