We report the confirmation of a sub-Saturn-size exoplanet, TOI-1194 b with a mass about $0.456_{-0.051}^{+0.055}$ $M_{J}$, and a very low mass companion star with a mass of about $96.5\pm1.5$ $M_J$, TOI-1251 B. Exoplanet candidates provided by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) are suitable for further follow-up observations by ground-based telescopes with small and medium apertures. The analysis is performed based on data from several telescopes worldwide, including telescopes in the Sino-German multiband photometric campaign, which aimed at confirming TESS Objects of Interest (TOIs) using ground-based small-aperture and medium-aperture telescopes, especially for long-period targets. TOI-1194 b is confirmed based on the consistent periodic transits depths from the multiband photometric data. We measure an orbital period of $2.310644\pm0.000001$ d, and radius is $0.767_{-0.041}^{+0.045}$ $R_J$, and amplitude of RV curve is $69.4_{-7.3}^{+7.9}$ m/s. TOI-1251 B is confirmed based on the multiband photometric and high-resolution spectroscopic data, whose orbiting period is $5.963054_{-0.000001}^{+0.000002}$ d, the radius is $0.947_{-0.033}^{+0.035}$ $R_J$, and amplitude of RV curve is $9849_{-40}^{+42}$ m/s., Comment: 28 pages, 8 figures, Accepted by RAA on Oct. 18th, 2023

Neural-network quantum states (NQSs), variationally optimized by combining traditional methods and deep learning techniques, is a new way to find quantum many-body ground states and gradually becomes a competitor of traditional variational methods. However, there are still some difficulties in the optimization of NQSs, such as local minima, slow convergence, and sign structure optimization. Here, we split a quantum many-body variational wave function into a multiplication of a real-valued amplitude neural network and a sign structure, and focus on the optimization of the amplitude network while keeping the sign structure fixed. The amplitude network is a convolutional neural network (CNN) with residual blocks, namely a ResNet. Our method is tested on three typical quantum many-body systems. The obtained ground state energies are lower than or comparable to those from traditional variational Monte Carlo (VMC) methods and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG). Surprisingly, for the frustrated Heisenberg $J_1$-$J_2$ model, our results are better than those of the complex-valued CNN in the literature, implying that the sign structure of the complex-valued NQS is difficult to be optimized. Photon-number resolving detectors with hundreds of pixels are now readily available, while the characterization of these detectors using detector tomography is computationally intensive. Here, we present a modified detector tomography model that reduces the number of variables that need optimization. To evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of our model, we reconstruct the photon number distribution of optical coherent and thermal states using the expectation-maximization-entropy algorithm. Our results indicate that the fidelity of the reconstructed states remains above 99%, and the second and third-order correlations agree well with the theoretical values for a mean number of photons up to 100. We also investigate the computational resources required for detector tomography and find out that our approach reduces the solving time by around a half compared to the standard detector tomography approach, and the required memory resources are the main obstacle for detector tomography of a large number of pixels. Our results suggest that detector tomography is viable on a supercomputer with 1~TB RAM for detectors with up to 340 pixels.

The nonlinear optical radiation of an integrated lithium niobate microcavity is demonstrated, which has been neglected in previous studies of nonlinear photonic devices. We find that the nonlinear coupling between confined optical modes on the chip and continuum modes in free space can be greatly enhanced on the platform of integrated microcavity, with feasible relaxation of the phase-matching condition. With an infrared pump laser, we observe the vertical radiation of second-harmonic wave at the visible band, which indicates a robust phase-matching-free chip-to-free-space frequency converter and also unveils an extra energy dissipation channel for integrated devices. Such an unexpected coherent nonlinear interaction between the free-space beam and the confined mode is also validated by the different frequency generation. Furthermore, based on the phase-matching-free nature of the nonlinear radiation, we build an integrated atomic gas sensor to characterize Rb isotopes with a single telecom laser. The unveiled mechanism of nonlinear optical radiation is universal for all dielectric photonic integrated devices, and provides a simple and robust chip-to-free-space as well as visible-to-telecom interface., Comment: 7 Pages, 4 figures

Nonlinear optics processes lie at the heart of photonics and quantum optics for their indispensable role in light sources and information processing. During the past decades, the three- and four-wave mixing ($\chi^{(2)}$ and $\chi^{(3)}$) effects have been extensively studied, especially in the micro-/nano-structures by which the photon-photon interaction strength is greatly enhanced. So far, the high-order nonlinearity beyond the $\chi^{(3)}$ has rarely been studied in dielectric materials due to their weak intrinsic nonlinear susceptibility, even in high-quality microcavities. Here, an effective five-wave mixing process ($\chi^{(4)}$) is synthesized for the first time, by incorporating $\chi^{(2)}$ and $\chi^{(3)}$ processes in a single microcavity. The coherence of the synthetic $\chi^{(4)}$ is verified by generating time-energy entangled visible-telecom photon-pairs, which requires only one drive laser at the telecom waveband. The photon pair generation rate from the synthetic process shows an enhancement factor over $500$ times upon intrinsic five-wave mixing. Our work demonstrates a universal approach of nonlinear synthesis via photonic structure engineering at the mesoscopic scale rather than material engineering, and thus opens a new avenue for realizing high-order optical nonlinearities and exploring novel functional photonic devices., Comment: 4 figures

Thin-film gallium nitride (GaN) as a proven piezoelectric material is a promising platform for the phononic integrated circuits, which hold great potential for scalable information processing processors. Here, an unsuspended traveling phononic resonator based on high-acoustic-index-contrast mechanism is realized in GaN-on-Sapphire with a frequency up to 5 GHz, which matches the typical superconducting qubit frequency. A sixfold increment in quality factor was found when temperature decreases from room temperature ($Q=5000$) to $7\,\mathrm{K}$ ($Q=30000$) and thus a frequency-quality factor product of $1.5\times10^{14}$ is obtained. Higher quality factors are available when the fabrication process is further optimized. Our system shows great potential in hybrid quantum devices via circuit quantum acoustodynamics.

Microresonators on a photonic chip could enhance nonlinear optics effects, thus are promising for realizing scalable high-efficiency frequency conversion devices. However, fulfilling phase matching conditions among multiple wavelengths remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a feasible scheme for degenerate sum-frequency conversion that only requires the two-mode phase matching condition. When the drive and the signal are both near resonance to the same telecom mode, an efficient on-chip photon-number conversion efficiency upto 42% was achieved, showing a broad tuning bandwidth over 250GHz. Furthermore, cascaded Pockels and Kerr nonlinear optical effects are observed, enabling the parametric amplification of the optical signal to a distinct wavelength in a single device. The scheme demonstrated in this work provides an alternative approach to realizing high-efficiency frequency conversion and is promising for future studies on communications, atom clocks, sensing, and imaging., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

It is shown by multi-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations that intense secondary whistler waves with special vortex-like field topology can be excited by a relativistic laser pulse in the highly magnetized, near-critical density plasma. Such whistler waves with lower frequencies obliquely propagate on both sides of the laser propagation axis. The energy conversion rate from laser to whistler waves can exceed 15%. Their dispersion relations and field polarization properties can be well explained by the linear cold-plasma model. In the spirit of the thin-layer quantization scheme, we give the effective Hamiltonian describing the noninteracting electrons confined to an annular corrugated surface, and find that the geometrically induced potential is considerably influenced by corrugations. By using numerical calculation, we investigate the eigenenergies and the corresponding eigenstates, and find that the transition energies can be sufficiently improved by adding corrugations. Particularly, the transition energy between the adjacent eigenstates corresponds to energy levels difference based on the wavefunction of annular wire, and the number of the energy levels is equal to the number of corrugations. And the larger magnitude of corrugations is capable of increasing the number of bound states. In addition, the distribution of ground state probability density is reconstructed by the corrugations, and the energy shift is generated., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures (in press)

Photonic integrated resonators stand out as reliable frequency converters due to their compactness and stability, with second-harmonic generation (SHG) efficiencies of up to 17000%/W reported recently in aluminum nitride microrings. In this work, a sufficiently strong second-harmonic (SH) signal up to microwatts was generated by a photonic integrated frequency doubler using a milliwatt infrared (IR) laser source. Furthermore, increased SHG bandwidth covering $^{85}$Rb and $^{87}$Rb D$_2$ transition lines as well as saturated absorption spectroscopy (SAS) were demonstrated by tuning the pump power and chip temperature.
