Factor analysis acts a pivotal role in enhancing maritime safety. Most previous studies conduct factor analysis within the framework of incident-related label prediction, where the developed models can be categorized into short-term and long-term prediction models. The long-term models offer a more strategic approach, enabling more proactive risk management, compared to the short-term ones. Nevertheless, few studies have devoted to rigorously identifying the key factors for the long-term prediction and undertaking comprehensive factor analysis. Hence, this study aims to delve into the key factors for predicting the incident risk levels in the subsequent year given a specific datestamp. The majority of candidate factors potentially contributing to the incident risk are collected from vessels' historical safety performance data spanning up to five years. An improved embedded feature selection, which integrates Random Forest classifier with a feature filtering process is proposed to identify key risk-contributing factors from the candidate pool. The results demonstrate superior performance of the proposed method in incident prediction and factor interpretability. Comprehensive analysis is conducted upon the key factors, which could help maritime stakeholders formulate management strategies for incident prevenion.

Recently, Xu et al. introduced the concept of an interband character for a time-dependent quantum system. This quantity is gauge invariant and quantized as integer values, analogous to the Euler characteristic based on the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for a manifold with a smooth boundary. In this work, we find that the geometric shift vector in momentum space from shift currents in the bulk photovoltaic effect is equivalent to the quantum geometric potential and plays the role of geodesic curvature, that is, of a quantum system whose parameter space is the Bloch momentum. We reveal the intricate relationships among geometric quantities such as the shift vector, Berry curvature, and quantum metric. Additionally, we present the Wilson representation for the quantized interband character and extend our analysis to bosonic photon and phonon drag shift vectors with non-vertical transitions. The application of Wilson loop method facilitates first-principles calculations, providing insights into the geometric underpinnings of these interband gauge invariant quantities and shedding light on their nonlinear optical manifestations in real materials., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

ChatGPT has changed the AI community and an active research line is the performance evaluation of ChatGPT. A key challenge for the evaluation is that ChatGPT is still closed-source and traditional benchmark datasets may have been used by ChatGPT as the training data. In this paper, (i) we survey recent studies which uncover the real performance levels of ChatGPT in seven categories of NLP tasks, (ii) review the social implications and safety issues of ChatGPT, and (iii) emphasize key challenges and opportunities for its evaluation. Materials with in-plane electrical anisotropy have great potential for designing artificial synaptic devices. However, natural materials with strong intrinsic in-plane electrical anisotropy are rare. We introduce a simple strategy to produce extremely large electrical anisotropy via grating gating of a semiconductor two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) of AlGaN/GaN. We show that periodically modulated electric potential in the 2DEG induces in-plane electrical anisotropy, which is significantly enhanced in a magnetic field, leading to an ultra large electrical anisotropy. This is induced by a giant positive magnetoresistance and a giant negative magnetoresistance under two orthogonally oriented in-plane current flows, respectively. This giant electrical anisotropy is in-situ tunable by tailoring both the grating gate voltage and the magnetic field. Our semiconductor device with controllable giant electrical anisotropy will stimulate new device applications, such as multi-terminal memtransistors and bionic synapses.

As digital healthcare evolves, the security of electronic health records (EHR) becomes increasingly crucial. This study presents the GPT-Onto-CAABAC framework, integrating Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT), medical-legal ontologies and Context-Aware Attribute-Based Access Control (CAABAC) to enhance EHR access security. Unlike traditional models, GPT-Onto-CAABAC dynamically interprets policies and adapts to changing healthcare and legal environments, offering customized access control solutions. Through empirical evaluation, this framework is shown to be effective in improving EHR security by accurately aligning access decisions with complex regulatory and situational requirements. The findings suggest its broader applicability in sectors where access control must meet stringent compliance and adaptability standards.

We propose the electrical control of a device probing the Josephson effect in exciton-polariton (EP) condensates, which can be switched between various dynamical modes. We model the device by a four-component Gross-Pitaevskii equation assuming that ideal EP condensates are established with well-balanced pumping and dissipation. All the model parameters are calculated microscopically. In particular, we obtain the polariton tunneling strength across the junction as a second-order process of electron-hole pair tunneling. We find that the EP condensates can be manipulated through distinctive degrees of freedom not present in other coherent quantum systems, and the dynamics of EP Josephson junctions are far richer than that of the conventional superconducting junctions.

The pursuit of multiferroic magnetoelectrics, combining simultaneous ferroelectric and magnetic orders, remains a central focus in condensed matter physics. Here we report the centrosymmetric, one-dimensional (1D) antiferromagnetic WOI$_3$ undergoes a strain-induced ferroelectric distortion. The paraelectric-ferroelectric transition is originated from the unconventional anisotropic $d^1$ mechanism, where an unpaired d electron of each W$^{5+}$ ion contributes to magnetic orders. Employing a Heisenberg model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, we predict an antiferromagnetic spin configuration as the paraelectric ground state, transitioning to a ferroelectric phase with noncollinear spin arrangement under uniaxial strain. The ferroelectric polarization and noncollinear spin arrangement can be manipulated by varying the applied strain. While the energy barriers for switching ferroelectric polarizations with magnetic orders are on the order of a few dozen of meV, the shift current bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) exhibits remarkable differences, providing a precise and valuable tool for experimentally probing the interplay of ferroelectric and magnetic orders in 1D WOI$_3$., Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures

We demonstrate that sliding motion between two layers of the newly discovered ferroelectric and topologically trivial bismuth (Bi) monolayer [Nature 617, 67 (2023)] can induce a sequence of topological phase transitions, alternating between trivial and nontrivial states. Interestingly, a lateral shift, even when preserving spatial symmetry, can still switch the quantum spin Hall state on and off. The substantial band-gap modulation and band inversion due to interlayer sliding arise primarily from the intralayer in-plane charge transfer processes involving Bi atoms at the outermost atomic layers, rather than the interlayer charge redistribution. We map out the topological phase diagram and the geometric Berry curvature-dipole induced nonlinear anomalous Hall response resulting from sliding, highlighting the potential for robust mechanical control over the edge current and the Hall current. Bilayer configurations that are $\mathbb{Z}_2$ nontrivial can produce drastically different transverse currents orthogonal to the external electric field. This occurs because both the direction and magnitude of the Berry curvature dipole at the Fermi level depend sensitively on the sliding displacement. In this paper, we investigate time-division based framework for integrated sensing, communication, and computing in integrated satellite-terrestrial networks. We consider a scenario, where Internet-of-Things devices on the ground operate with sensing and communication in a time-division manner, and can process the sensing results locally, at the edge, or in the cloud via the satellite communication link. Based on the proposed framework, we formulate a multi-dimensional optimization problem to maximize the utility performance of sensing, communication, and computing abilities. After decomposing the original optimization problem into two subproblems, we first derive the closed-form solution of the optimal task partitioning strategy for terrestrial users and satellite users. Then, we develop the joint subframe allocation and task partitioning strategy to optimize the overall performance, by means of which the Pareto optimal solutions can be obtained along the Pareto frontier. Extensive simulations are provided to demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, which is 10% to 60% superior compared with the benchmarks. Also, the trade-off between the multidimensional resource and multi-functional performance is analyzed from the perspective of network design.

Ferroelastic twin walls in nonpolar materials can give rise to a spontaneous polarization due to symmetry breaking. Nevertheless, the bi-stable polarity of twin walls and its reversal have not yet been demonstrated. Here, we report that the polarity of SrTiO$_3$ twin walls can be switched by ultra-low strain gradient. Using first-principles-based machine-learning potential, we demonstrate that the twin walls can be deterministically rotated and realigned in specific directions under strain gradient, which breaks the inversion symmetry of a sequence of walls and leads to a macroscopic polarization. The system can maintain polarity even after the strain gradient is removed. As a result, the polarization of twin walls can exhibit ferroelectric-like hysteresis loop upon cyclic bending, namely ferro-flexoelectricity. Finally, we propose a scheme to experimentally detect the polarity of twin wall by measuring the bulk photovoltaic responses. The exploration of ferroelectric phase transitions enables an in-depth understanding of ferroelectric switching and promising applications in information storage. However, controllably tuning the dynamics of ferroelectric phase transitions remains challenging owing to inaccessible hidden phases. Here, using protonic gating technology, we create a series of metastable ferroelectric phases and demonstrate their reversible transitions in van der Waals ferroelectric {\alpha}-In2Se3 transistors. By varying the gate bias, protons can be incrementally injected or extracted, achieving controllable tuning of the ferroelectric {\alpha}-In2Se3 protonic dynamics across the channel and obtaining numerous intermediate phases. Combining piezoelectric force microscopy and electrical hysteresis measurements, we surprisingly discover that the gate tuning of {\alpha}-In2Se3 protonation is volatile, unlike the conventional gating effect, and the created new phases remain polar. Their origin, revealed by first-principles calculations, is related to the formation of metastable hydrogen-stabilized {\alpha}-In2Se3 phases with switchable dipoles. Furthermore, our approach enables ultralow gate-voltage switching of different phases (below 0.4 V), and easy integration with transistor components. This work provides fundamental insights into the interactions between protons and ferroelectric phase transitions, providing a possible avenue for accessing hidden phases in ferroelectric switching and for developing energy-efficient, multilevel-switching memory devices., Comment: 39 pages, 19 figures

In this article, we systematically explore several key properties of electronic states in helical materials systems, including the inheritance of orbital angular momentum (OAM) from local atomic orbitals to the entire helical structure, the conservation of helical momentum, and the emergence of helical-induced spin-orbit coupling (hSOC). We then apply this comprehensive theoretical framework to elucidate the electronic structure of one-dimensional (1D) helical crystal InSeI. Our analysis reveals the influence of hSOC, evident in spin-mixing energy gaps within the electronic band structure, as calculated through density functional theory. Utilizing a combination of tight-binding modeling and first-principles calculations, we ascertain the spin-polarized electric response and the chiral-switchable second-order photocurrent response of InSeI, characterized as the Landauer-Buttiker ballistic transport and shift current response. The results highlight the potential of 1D InSeI for applications in spintronics and optoelectronics.
