3. A Novel Low-Frequency Lateral Wave Approximation Formula of Submerged Magnetic Dipoles Near Sea Surface

Abstract

Lateral waves (LW) excited by submerged magnetic dipoles near the sea surface are important for underwater magnetic induction communication and sensing. Existing approximation formulas are only suitable for far-field regions and accurate only when the source and field points are placed at the same depth. In this letter, a novel approximation formula of the LW excited by submerged magnetic dipoles is proposed by adopting the asymptotic expansion method. Numerical results show that the proposed formula is applicable to any frequency up to 100 MHz for both near and far fields in an underwater environment of dynamic conductivity. Moreover, it is accurate when the source and field points are placed at both the same depth and different depths. The proposed formula can serve as a valuable tool to accurately design and analyze underwater magnetic induction communication.

4. Near-Field to Far-Field Approximation Formulas Based on the Asymptotic Expansion Method for Electromagnetic Wave Propagation Across Air–Sea Boundary Due to a Vertical Magnetic Dipole

Abstract

Evaluation of the electromagnetic (EM) field propagation across the air–sea interface is important for wireless communication between aerial and underwater vehicles and undersea remote sensing. Existing approximation formulas of the EM field components are only suitable either for a near-field region or for a far-field region. In this letter, a set of new approximation formulas for evaluating the EM field components excited by a vertical magnetic dipole are derived for the case of undersea-to-air propagation by applying the asymptotic expansion method and for the case of air-to-undersea propagation by adopting the field reciprocity property. Computation analysis shows that the approximation formulas of both electric and magnetic field components are valid for both the near and far fields at any frequency up to 10 MHz for underwater applications.

Abstract

The fast multipole method (FMM) and the impedance boundary condition (IBC) are used to attain an efficient computation of RCS of a 3-D coating conductor. FMM expedites greatly the matrix-vector multiplication in iterative process. Meanwhile a sparse technique combined with precondition conjugate gradient method is used to carry out the computation of two sparse matrices A~, B~. The present method is very efficient for solution of scattering from the impedance coating conductor with arbitrary shape and large electrical sizes.

30. Methods and designs for improving the signal integrity for 3D electrical interconnects in high performance IC packaging.

Abstract

Design of high performance package interconnects using full-wave electromagnetic solvers is necessary due to increased operation speed, miniaturization and vertical 3D integration. Thus the segmented study and optimization is becoming inevitable for designers to improve the signal integrity of IC packaging. This paper addresses alternative methods and optimal designs on several components and structures for package electrical interconnect, including voiding technique, padless via implementation, spiral micro-via stacking and signal/ground layout patterns. The simulated time domain results have been presented to demonstrate the improvements of optimized schemes. These methodologies could be treated as handy references and general guidelines applied to differential package line resulting in a significant improvement of overall package signal integrity performance. Abstract

In this paper, the electromagnetic scattering from conductive target with open cavity has been simplified as two (inner and outer) equivalent models by using the equivalence principle and introducing an equivalent magnetic current in the aperture of the cavity. For the inner part of the cavity, the equivalent conductance matrix has been obtained by use of connection scheme. Approximate boundary in tegral method has been used to describe the coupling between inner and outer pa rts of the cavity, and to obtain the aperture equivalent magnetic current. Final ly, the general combined field integral equation was presented to form the elec tromagnetic model of the scattering problem, and the multilevel fast multipole a lgorithm was used to solve this problem efficiently. Numerical examples show go od agreement between calculated results and measured data.

33. A hybridization of multi-level UV with the hierarchical fast far field approximations for 3D rough surface scattering.

Abstract

This paper presents a hybrid multilevel UV method with the fast far field algorithm for the random rough surface scattering calculations. In the MLUV, a pre-ranked sampling algorithm is used to further compress the UV matrix pairs. To further improve the efficiency of the algorithm, from the second and third coarsest level, a hierarchical FAFFA is employed to further enhance the efficiency of the algorithm. A rough surface with 32-by-32 wavelengths is simulated with 1.5 million unknowns. The results show the efficiency of the algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
