The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices across multiple sectors has escalated serious network security concerns. This has prompted ongoing research in Machine Learning (ML)-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) for cyber-attack classification. Traditional ML models require data transmission from IoT devices to a centralized server for traffic analysis, raising severe privacy concerns. To address this issue, researchers have studied Federated Learning (FL)-based IDSs that train models across IoT devices while keeping their data localized. However, the heterogeneity of data, stemming from distinct vulnerabilities of devices and complexity of attack vectors, poses a significant challenge to the effectiveness of FL models. While current research focuses on adapting various ML models within the FL framework, they fail to effectively address the issue of attack class imbalance among devices, which significantly degrades the classification accuracy of minority attacks. To overcome this challenge, we introduce FedMADE, a novel dynamic aggregation method, which clusters devices by their traffic patterns and aggregates local models based on their contributions towards overall performance. We evaluate FedMADE against other FL algorithms designed for non-IID data and observe up to 71.07% improvement in minority attack classification accuracy. We further show that FedMADE is robust to poisoning attacks and incurs only a 4.7% (5.03 seconds) latency overhead in each communication round compared to FedAvg, without increasing the computational load of IoT devices., Comment: To appear in the Information Security Conference (ISC) 2024

Standing at the forefront of knowledge dissemination, digital libraries curate vast collections of scientific literature. However, these scholarly writings are often laden with jargon and tailored for domain experts rather than the general public. As librarians, we strive to offer services to a diverse audience, including those with lower reading levels. To extend our services beyond mere access, we propose fine-tuning a language model to rewrite scholarly abstracts into more comprehensible versions, thereby making scholarly literature more accessible when requested. We began by introducing a corpus specifically designed for training models to simplify scholarly abstracts. This corpus consists of over three thousand pairs of abstracts and significance statements from diverse disciplines. We then fine-tuned four language models using this corpus. The outputs from the models were subsequently examined both quantitatively for accessibility and semantic coherence, and qualitatively for language quality, faithfulness, and completeness. Our findings show that the resulting models can improve readability by over three grade levels, while maintaining fidelity to the original content. Although commercial state-of-the-art models still hold an edge, our models are much more compact, can be deployed locally in an affordable manner, and alleviate the privacy concerns associated with using commercial models. Federated Learning (FL) exposes vulnerabilities to targeted poisoning attacks that aim to cause misclassification specifically from the source class to the target class. However, using well-established defense frameworks, the poisoning impact of these attacks can be greatly mitigated. We introduce a generalized pre-training stage approach to Boost Targeted Poisoning Attacks against FL, called BoTPA. Its design rationale is to leverage the model update contributions of all data points, including ones outside of the source and target classes, to construct an Amplifier set, in which we falsify the data labels before the FL training process, as a means to boost attacks. We comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness and compatibility of BoTPA on various targeted poisoning attacks. Under data poisoning attacks, our evaluations reveal that BoTPA can achieve a median Relative Increase in Attack Success Rate (RI-ASR) between 15.3% and 36.9% across all possible source-target class combinations, with varying percentages of malicious clients, compared to its baseline. In the context of model poisoning, BoTPA attains RI-ASRs ranging from 13.3% to 94.7% in the presence of the Krum and Multi-Krum defenses, from 2.6% to 49.2% under the Median defense, and from 2.9% to 63.5% under the Flame defense.

Nowadays, the open-source software (OSS) ecosystem suffers from security threats of software supply chain (SSC) attacks. Interpreted OSS malware plays a vital role in SSC attacks, as criminals have an arsenal of attack vectors to deceive users into installing malware and executing malicious activities. In this paper, we introduce tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) proposed by MITRE ATT\&CK into the interpreted malware analysis to characterize different phases of an attack lifecycle. Specifically, we propose GENTTP, a zero-shot approach to extracting a TTP of an interpreted malware package. GENTTP leverages large language models (LLMs) to automatically generate a TTP, where the input is a malicious package, and the output is a deceptive tactic and an execution tactic of attack vectors. To validate the effectiveness of GENTTP, we collect two datasets for evaluation: a dataset with ground truth labels and a large dataset in the wild. Experimental results show that GENTTP can generate TTPs with high accuracy and efficiency. To demonstrate GENTTP's benefits, we build an LLM-based Chatbot from 3,700+ PyPI malware's TTPs. We further conduct a quantitative analysis of malware's TTPs at a large scale. Our main findings include: (1) many OSS malicious packages share a relatively stable TTP, even with the increasing emergence of malware and attack campaigns, (2) a TTP reflects characteristics of a malware-based attack, and (3) an attacker's intent behind the malware is linked to a TTP., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures

Real-time Clock (RTC) has been widely used in various real-time systems to provide precise system time. In this paper, we reveal a new security vulnerability of the RTC circuit, where the internal storage time or timestamp can be arbitrarily modified forward or backward. The security threat of dynamic modifications of system time caused by this vulnerability is called TimeTravel. Based on acoustic resonance and piezoelectric effects, TimeTravel applies acoustic guide waves to the quartz crystal, thereby adjusting the characteristics of the oscillating signal transmitted into the RTC circuit. By manipulating the parameters of acoustic waves, TimeTravel can accelerate or decelerate the timing speed of system time at an adjustable rate, resulting in the relative drift of the timing, which can pose serious safety threats. To assess the severity of TimeTravel, we examine nine modules and two commercial devices under the RTC circuit. The experimental results show that TimeTravel can drift system time forward and backward at a chosen speed with a maximum 93% accuracy. Internet censorship is typically enforced by authorities to achieve information control for a certain group of Internet users. So far existing censorship studies have primarily focused on country-level characterization because (1) in many cases, censorship is enabled by governments with nationwide policies and (2) it is usually hard to control how the probing packets are routed to trigger censorship in different networks inside a country. However, the deployment and implementation of censorship could be highly diverse at the ISP level. In this paper, we investigate Internet censorship from a different perspective by scrutinizing the diverse censorship deployment inside a country. Specifically, by leveraging an end-to-end measurement framework, we deploy multiple geo-distributed back-end control servers to explore various paths from one single vantage point. The generated traffic with the same domain but different control servers' IPs could be forced to traverse different transit networks, thereby being examined by different censorship devices if present. Through our large-scale experiments and in-depth investigation, we reveal that the diversity of Internet censorship caused by different routing paths inside a country is prevalent, implying that (1) the implementations of centralized censorship are commonly incomplete or flawed and (2) decentralized censorship is also common. Moreover, we identify that different hosting platforms also result in inconsistent censorship activities due to different peering relationships with the ISPs in a country. Finally, we present extensive case studies in detail to illustrate the configurations that lead to censorship inconsistency and explore the causes.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become indispensable to our daily lives and work. Unfortunately, developers often reuse software libraries in the IoT firmware, leading to a major security concern. If vulnerabilities or insecure versions of these libraries go unpatched, a massive number of IoT devices can be impacted. In this paper, we propose the AutoFirm, an automated tool for detecting reused libraries in IoT firmware at a large scale. Specifically, AutoFirm leverages the syntax information (library name and version) to determine whether IoT firmware reuses the libraries. We conduct a large-scale empirical study of reused libraries of IoT firmware, investigating more than 6,900+ firmware and 2,700+ distinct vulnerabilities affecting 11,300+ vulnerable versions from 349 open-source software libraries. Leveraging this diverse information set, we conduct a qualitative assessment of vulnerable library versions to understand security gaps and the misplaced trust of libraries in IoT firmware. Our research reveals that: manufacturers neglected to update outdated libraries for IoT firmware in 67.3\% of cases; on average, outdated libraries persisted for over 1.34 years prior to remediation; vulnerabilities of software libraries have posed server threats to widespread IoT devices., Comment: 13 pages, 20 figures

Nowadays, attackers target Internet of Things (IoT) devices for security exploitation, and search engines for devices and services compromise user privacy, including IP addresses, open ports, device types, vendors, and products.Typically, application banners are used to recognize IoT device profiles during network measurement and reconnaissance. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to obfuscating IoT device banners (BANADV) based on adversarial examples. The key idea is to explore the susceptibility of fingerprinting techniques to a slight perturbation of an IoT device banner. By modifying device banners, BANADV disrupts the collection of IoT device profiles. To validate the efficacy of BANADV, we conduct a set of experiments. Our evaluation results show that adversarial examples can spoof state-of-the-art fingerprinting techniques, including learning- and matching-based approaches. We further provide a detailed analysis of the weakness of learning-based/matching-based fingerprints to carefully crafted samples. Overall, the innovations of BANADV lie in three aspects: (1) it utilizes an IoT-related semantic space and a visual similarity space to locate available manipulating perturbations of IoT banners; (2) it achieves at least 80\% success rate for spoofing IoT scanning techniques; and (3) it is the first to utilize adversarial examples of IoT banners in network measurement and reconnaissance.

Honeypots, as a strategic cyber-deception mechanism designed to emulate authentic interactions and bait unauthorized entities, continue to struggle with balancing flexibility, interaction depth, and deceptive capability despite their evolution over decades. Often they also lack the capability of proactively adapting to an attacker's evolving tactics, which restricts the depth of engagement and subsequent information gathering. Under this context, the emergent capabilities of large language models, in tandem with pioneering prompt-based engineering techniques, offer a transformative shift in the design and deployment of honeypot technologies. In this paper, we introduce HoneyGPT, a pioneering honeypot architecture based on ChatGPT, heralding a new era of intelligent honeypot solutions characterized by their cost-effectiveness, high adaptability, and enhanced interactivity, coupled with a predisposition for proactive attacker engagement. Furthermore, we present a structured prompt engineering framework that augments long-term interaction memory and robust security analytics. This framework, integrating thought of chain tactics attuned to honeypot contexts, enhances interactivity and deception, deepens security analytics, and ensures sustained engagement. The evaluation of HoneyGPT includes two parts: a baseline comparison based on a collected dataset and a field evaluation in real scenarios for four weeks. The baseline comparison demonstrates HoneyGPT's remarkable ability to strike a balance among flexibility, interaction depth, and deceptive capability. The field evaluation further validates HoneyGPT's efficacy, showing its marked superiority in enticing attackers into more profound interactive engagements and capturing a wider array of novel attack vectors in comparison to existing honeypot technologies.

5G mobile networks leverage Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to offer services in the form of network slices. Each network slice is a logically isolated fragment constructed by service chaining a set of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). The Network Repository Function (NRF) acts as a central OpenAuthorization (OAuth) 2.0 server to secure inter-VNF communications resulting in a single point of failure. Thus, we propose 5G-WAVE, a decentralized authorization framework for the 5G core by leveraging the WAVE framework and integrating it into the OpenAirInterface (OAI) 5G core. Our design relies on Side-Car Proxies (SCPs) deployed alongside individual VNFs, allowing point-to-point authorization. Each SCP acts as a WAVE engine to create entities and attestations and verify incoming service requests. We measure the authorization latency overhead for VNF registration, 5G Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA), and data session setup and observe that WAVE verification introduces 155ms overhead to HTTP transactions for decentralizing authorization. Additionally, we evaluate the scalability of 5G-WAVE by instantiating more network slices to observe 1.4x increase in latency with 10x growth in network size. We also discuss how 5G-WAVE can significantly reduce the 5G attack surface without using OAuth 2.0 while addressing several key issues of 5G standardization.

Package managers such as NPM, Maven, and PyPI play a pivotal role in open-source software (OSS) ecosystems, streamlining the distribution and management of various freely available packages. The fine-grained details within software packages can unveil potential risks within existing OSS ecosystems, offering valuable insights for detecting malicious packages. In this study, we undertake a large-scale empirical analysis focusing on fine-grained information (FGI): the metadata, static, and dynamic functions. Specifically, we investigate the FGI usage across a diverse set of 50,000+ legitimate and 1,000+ malicious packages. Based on this diverse data collection, we conducted a comparative analysis between legitimate and malicious packages. Our findings reveal that (1) malicious packages have less metadata content and utilize fewer static and dynamic functions than legitimate ones; (2) malicious packages demonstrate a higher tendency to invoke HTTP/URL functions as opposed to other application services, such as FTP or SMTP; (3) FGI serves as a distinguishable indicator between legitimate and malicious packages; and (4) one dimension in FGI has sufficient distinguishable capability to detect malicious packages, and combining all dimensions in FGI cannot significantly improve overall performance.

The open-source software (OSS) ecosystem suffers from various security threats and risks, and malicious packages play a central role in software supply chain (SSC) attacks. Although malware research has a history of over thirty years, less attention has been paid to OSS malware. Its existing research has three limitations: a lack of high-quality datasets, malware diversity, and attack campaign context. In this paper, we first build and curate the largest dataset of 23,425 malicious packages from scattered online sources. We then propose a knowledge graph to represent the OSS malware corpus and conduct malicious package analysis in the wild. Our main findings include (1) it is essential to collect malicious packages from various online sources because there is little data overlap between different sources; (2) despite the sheer volume of SSC attack campaigns, many malicious packages are similar, and unknown/sophisticated attack behaviors have yet to emerge or be detected; (3) OSS malicious package has its distinct life cycle, denoted as {changing->release->detection->removal}, and slightly changing the package (different name) is a widespread attack manner; (4) while malicious packages often lack context about how and who released them, security reports disclose the information about corresponding SSC attack campaigns.

Novelty, akin to gene mutation in evolution, opens possibilities for scholarly advancement. Although peer review remains the gold standard for evaluating novelty in scholarly communication and resource allocation, the vast volume of submissions necessitates an automated measure of scholarly novelty. Adopting a perspective that views novelty as the atypical combination of existing knowledge, we introduce an information-theoretic measure of novelty in scholarly publications. This measure quantifies the degree of 'surprise' perceived by a language model that represents the word distribution of scholarly discourse. The proposed measure is accompanied by face and construct validity evidence; the former demonstrates correspondence to scientific common sense, and the latter is endorsed through alignment with novelty evaluations from a select panel of domain experts. Additionally, characterized by its interpretability, fine granularity, and accessibility, this measure addresses gaps prevalent in existing methods. We believe this measure holds great potential to benefit editors, stakeholders, and policymakers, and it provides a reliable lens for examining the relationship between novelty and academic dynamics such as creativity, interdisciplinarity, and scientific advances., Comment: Accepted for publication in the proceedings of iConference2024

The Fifth Generation (5G) mobile core network is designed as a set of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) hosted on Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) hardware. This creates a growing demand for general-purpose compute resources as 5G deployments continue to expand. Given their elastic infrastructure, cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) are attractive platforms to address this need. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the control and user plane Quality of Service (QoS) performance associated with deploying the 5G core on top of a public cloud. To account for both software and communication costs, we build a 5G testbed using open-source components spanning multiple locations within AWS. We present an operational breakdown of the performance overhead for various 5G use cases using different core deployment strategies. Our results indicate that moving specific VNFs into edge regions reduces the latency overhead for key 5G operations. Furthermore, we instantiated multiple user plane connections between availability zones and edge regions with different traffic loads. We observed that the deterioration of connection quality varies depending on traffic loads and is use case specific. Ultimately, our findings provide new insights for Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) for optimal placements of their 5G core functions.

Authorship identification has proven unsettlingly effective in inferring the identity of the author of an unsigned document, even when sensitive personal information has been carefully omitted. In the digital era, individuals leave a lasting digital footprint through their written content, whether it is posted on social media, stored on their employer's computers, or located elsewhere. When individuals need to communicate publicly yet wish to remain anonymous, there is little available to protect them from unwanted authorship identification. This unprecedented threat to privacy is evident in scenarios such as whistle-blowing. Proposed defenses against authorship identification attacks primarily aim to obfuscate one's writing style, thereby making it unlinkable to their pre-existing writing, while concurrently preserving the original meaning and grammatical integrity. The presented work offers a comprehensive review of the advancements in this research area spanning over the past two decades and beyond. It emphasizes the methodological frameworks of modification and generation-based strategies devised to evade authorship identification attacks, highlighting joint efforts from the differential privacy community. Limitations of current research are discussed, with a spotlight on open challenges and potential research avenues.

Lu Xun and Zhou Zuoren stand as two of the most influential writers in modern Chinese literature. Beyond their familial ties as brothers, they were also intimate collaborators during the nascent stages of their writing careers. This research employs quantitative methods to revisit three disputed essays pseudonymously published by the brothers in 1912. Our stylometric analysis uses an interpretable authorship attribution model to investigate the essays' authorship and examine the brothers' respective writing styles. Our findings suggest that 'Looking at the Country of China' was authored by Lu Xun. Moreover, 'People of Yue, Forget Not Your Ancestors' Instructions' seems to be either predominantly authored or extensively revised by Lu Xun given its notable stylistic similarities to 'Looking at the Land of Yue,' a piece Zhou Zuoren recognized as his own, but edited by Lu Xun. The third essay, 'Where Has the Character of the Republic Gone?,' exhibits a 'diluted', mixed writing style, suggesting thorough collaboration. We offer visual representations of essay features to facilitate a nuanced and intuitive understanding. We have uncovered evidence suggesting Lu Xun's covert engagement with social issues during his purported 'silent era' and provided insights into the brothers' formative intellectual trajectories.

Authorship identification ascertains the authorship of texts whose origins remain undisclosed. That authorship identification techniques work as reliably as they do has been attributed to the fact that authorial style is properly captured and represented. Although modern authorship identification methods have evolved significantly over the years and have proven effective in distinguishing authorial styles, the generalization of stylistic features across domains has not been systematically reviewed. The presented work addresses the challenge of enhancing the generalization of stylistic representations in authorship identification, particularly when there are discrepancies between training and testing samples. A comprehensive review of empirical studies was conducted, focusing on various stylistic features and their effectiveness in representing an author's style. The influencing factors such as topic, genre, and register on writing style were also explored, along with strategies to mitigate their impact. While some stylistic features, like character n-grams and function words, have proven to be robust and discriminative, others, such as content words, can introduce biases and hinder cross-domain generalization. Representations learned using deep learning models, especially those incorporating character n-grams and syntactic information, show promise in enhancing representation generalization. The findings underscore the importance of selecting appropriate stylistic features for authorship identification, especially in cross-domain scenarios. The recognition of the strengths and weaknesses of various linguistic features paves the way for more accurate authorship identification in diverse contexts.

In this article, we study the adjoint Selmer group of a modular form that admits a Jacquet-Langlands transfer to a modular form on a definite quaternion algebra. We show that this Selmer group has length given by the valuation of the Petersson norm of the quaternionic modular form. Our proof is based on an Euler system argument first used by Flach in his study for the adjoint Selmer group of an elliptic curve by producing elements in the motivic cohomology of the product of two Shimura curves. We study arithmetic properties of certain quaternionic periods of Hilbert modular forms arising from base change of elliptic modular forms. These periods which we call the distinguished periods are closely related to the notion of distinguished representation that appear in work of Harder--Langlands--Rapoport, Lai, Flicker--Hakim on the Tate conjectures for the Hilbert--Blumenthal surfaces and their quaternionic analogues. In particular, we prove an integrality result on the ratio of the distinguished period and the quaternionic Peterson norm associated to the modular form. Our method is based on an Euler system argument initiated by Flach by producing elements in the motivic cohomologies of the quaternionic Hilbert--Blumenthal surfaces with control of their ramification behaviours. We show that these periods give natural bounds for certain subspaces of the Selmer groups of these quaternionic Hilbert--Blumenthal surfaces. The lengths of these subspaces can be determined by using the Taylor--Wiles method and can be related to the quaternionic Peterson norms of the modular forms.

The ongoing transformation of mobile networks from proprietary physical network boxes to virtualized functions and deployment models has led to more scalable and flexible network architectures capable of adapting to specific use cases. As an enabler of this movement, the OpenRAN initiative promotes standardization allowing for a vendor-neutral radio access network with open APIs. Moreover, the O-RAN Alliance has begun specification efforts conforming to OpenRAN's definitions. This includes the near-real-time RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) overseeing a group of extensible applications (xApps). The use of these potentially untrusted third-party applications introduces a new attack surface to the mobile network plane with fundamental security and system design requirements that are yet to be addressed. To secure the 5G O-RAN xApp model, we introduce the xApp Repository Function (XRF) framework, which implements scalable authentication, authorization, and discovery for xApps. We first present the framework's system design and implementation details, followed by operational benchmarks in a production-grade containerized environment. The evaluation results, centered on active processing and operation times, show that our proposed framework can scale efficiently in a multi-threaded Kubernetes microservice environment and support a large number of clients with minimal overhead.

Maintaining anonymity while communicating using natural language remains a challenge. Standard authorship attribution techniques that analyze candidate authors' writing styles achieve uncomfortably high accuracy even when the number of candidate authors is high. Adversarial stylometry defends against authorship attribution with the goal of preventing unwanted deanonymization. This paper reproduces and replicates experiments in a seminal study of defenses against authorship attribution (Brennan et al., 2012). We are able to successfully reproduce and replicate the original results, although we conclude that the effectiveness of the defenses studied is overstated due to a lack of a control group in the original study. In our replication, we find new evidence suggesting that an entirely automatic method, round-trip translation, merits re-examination as it appears to reduce the effectiveness of established authorship attribution methods.

This paper studied the relationship between the decomposition rate of fungi and temperature, humidity, fungus elongation, moisture tolerance and fungus density in a given volume in the presence of a variety of fungi, and established a series of models to describe the decomposition of fungi in different states. Since the volume of soil was given in this case, the latter two characteristics could be attributed to the influence of the number of fungal population on the decomposition rate. Based on the Logistic model, the relationship between the number of population and time was established, and finally the number of fungi in the steady state was obtained The interaction between different species of fungi was analyzed by Lotka-Volterra model, and the decomposition rate of various fungal combinations in different environments was obtained. After studying the one and two cases, we can extrapher from one to the other, and the community consisting of n fungal populations will be similar to the community consisting of n+1 fungal populations. After the study, we substituted the collected data into the model and found that the fungal community composed of two kinds of fungi had a lower decomposition rate of ground decomposition or wooden fiber than that of a single kind of fungus for the same kind of substance. We found that the fungus in warm and humid environment of decomposition rate is highest, the change of the atmospheric cause some fungal population growth rate decreases, there are also some will increase, which is associated with the nature of fungi.We analyzed the influence of environmental factors, namely temperature and humidity, on the model., Comment: 19 pages

For a long time, water and hydroelectric power are relatively important resources. Their rational distribution is closely related to regional agriculture, industry, residents, etc. In this paper, we mainly study the problem of allocation scheme for Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam in the Colorado River Basin. Taking into consideration of various factors, we build models to achieve optimal scheduling. Firstly, we propose the Water Strategy Decision Model, which can obtain different distribution methods for the different water levels. Also, we connect the two dams in series to consider the coupling effect between them and integrate this part into the main model. Secondly, we propose three criteria of allocation for water and power generation, namely, economic, social, and environmental benefits. Social benefits mainly include the minimum shortage of water and electricity for agriculture, industry, and residents. For this multi-objective plan, the model is solved using a multi-objective ant colony genetic algorithm under the constraint of constant total water volume, and finally, the current reservoir capacities of the two lakes are input to derive the annual water supply to the five states. Thirdly, based on the location and development characteristics of the five states, we obtain a water scheduling model based on the priority of geographic-industry characteristics. Fourthly, we can regard the model as a four-dimensional space of industrial, agricultural, residential and power generation water demand. The partial derivative calculation formula of multi-dimensional space can be used to obtain the results. Finally, we analyze the sensitivity of the model, and it shows that the model has strong adaptability and is easier to popularize. In this article, we use deformation theory of Galois representations valued in the symplectic group of degree four to prove a freeness result for the cohomology of certain quaternionic unitary Shimura variety over the universal deformation ring for certain type of residual representation satisfying a property called rigidity. In this article we prove an arithmetic level raising theorem for the symplectic group of degree four in the ramified case. This result is a key step towards the Beilinson-Bloch-Kato conjecture for certain Rankin-Selberg motives associated to orthogonal groups within the framework of the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture. The theorem itself can be also viewed as an analogue of the Ihara's lemma or the Tate conjecture for special fibers of Shimura varieties at ramified characteristics. The proof relies heavily on the description of the supersingular locus of certain quaternionic unitary Shimura variety which is closely related to the classical Siegel threefold.

Based on the background of the 2021 Higher Education Club Cup National College Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling A, according to the relevant data of the China Sky Eye (FAST) radio telescope, the main cable nodes and actuators are adjusted and controlled by mathematical modeling and computer simulation methods to realize the active reflector. The adjustment of the shape enables it to better receive the signal of the external celestial body and improve the utilization rate of the reflector, so as to achieve a higher receiving ratio of the feed cabin. In this paper, a point set mapping algorithm based on the rotation matrix of the spatial coordinate axis is proposed, that is, the mapping matrix is obtained by mathematical derivation, and the linear interpolation algorithm based on the original spherical surface and the ideal paraboloid to solve the working paraboloid is obtained. When the interpolation ratio is adjusted to 89% to satisfy the optimal solution under realistic constraints. Then, a three-dimensional spatial signal reflection model based on spatial linear invariance is proposed. Each reflective panel is used as an evaluation index. For each reflective surface, the 0-1 variable of signal accessibility on the feeder is defined. In many scenarios, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), aka drones, need to have the capability of autonomous flying to carry out their mission successfully. In order to allow these autonomous flights, drones need to know their location constantly. Then, based on the current position and the final destination, navigation commands will be generated and drones will be guided to their destination. Localization can be easily carried out in outdoor environments using GPS signals and drone inertial measurement units (IMUs). However, such an approach is not feasible in indoor environments or GPS-denied areas. In this paper, we propose a localization scheme for drones called PILOT (High-Precision Indoor Localization for Autonomous Drones) that is specifically designed for indoor environments. PILOT relies on ultrasonic acoustic signals to estimate the target drone's location. In order to have a precise final estimation of the drone's location, PILOT deploys a three-stage localization scheme. The first two stages provide robustness against the multi-path fading effect of indoor environments and mitigate the ranging error. Then, in the third stage, PILOT deploys a simple yet effective technique to reduce the localization error induced by the relative geometry between transmitters and receivers and significantly reduces the height estimation error. Drones in many applications need the ability to fly fully or partially autonomously to accomplish their mission. To allow these fully/partially autonomous flights, first, the drone needs to be able to locate itself constantly. Then the navigation command signal would be generated and passed on to the controller unit of the drone. In this paper, we propose a localization scheme for drones called iDROP (Robust Localization for Indoor Navigation of Drones with Optimized Beacon Placement) that is specifically devised for GPS-denied environments (e.g., indoor spaces). Instead of GPS signals, iDROP relies on speaker-generated ultrasonic acoustic signals to enable a drone to estimate its location. In general, localization error is due to two factors: the ranging error and the error induced by relative geometry between the transmitters and the receiver. iDROP mitigates these two types of errors and provides a high-precision three-dimensional localization scheme for drones. iDROP employs a waveform that is robust against multi-path fading. For many applications, drones are required to operate entirely or partially autonomously. To fly completely or partially on their own, drones need access to location services to get navigation commands. While using the Global Positioning System (GPS) is an obvious choice, GPS is not always available, can be spoofed or jammed, and is highly error-prone for indoor and underground environments. The ranging method using beacons is one of the popular methods for localization, specially for indoor environments. This paper proposes OPTILOD (Optimal Beacon Placement for High-Accuracy Indoor Localization of Drones), an optimization algorithm for the optimal placement of beacons deployed in three-dimensional indoor environments. OPTILOD leverages advances in Evolutionary Algorithms to compute the minimum number of beacons and their optimal placement to minimize the localization error. These problems belong to the Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) class and are both considered NP-Hard. Navigating in environments where the GPS signal is unavailable, weak, purposefully blocked, or spoofed has become crucial for a wide range of applications. A prime example is autonomous navigation for drones in indoor environments: to fly fully or partially autonomously, drones demand accurate and frequent updates of their locations. This paper proposes a Robust Acoustic Indoor Localization (RAIL) scheme for drones designed explicitly for GPS-denied environments. Instead of depending on GPS, RAIL leverages ultrasonic acoustic signals to achieve precise localization using a novel hybrid Frequency Hopping Code Division Multiple Access (FH-CDMA) technique. Contrary to previous approaches, RAIL is able to both overcome the multi-path fading effect and provide precise signal separation in the receiver. There has been a rapid growth in the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in various applications ranging from vital safety-of-life such as surveillance and reconnaissance at nuclear power plants to entertainment and hobby applications. While popular, drones can pose serious security threats that can be unintentional or intentional. Thus, there is an urgent need for real-time accurate detection and classification of drones. In this article, we perform a survey of drone detection approaches presenting their advantages and limitations. We analyze detection techniques that employ radars, acoustic and optical sensors, and emitted radio frequency (RF) signals.
