Patients and methods: From January 2013 to April 2016, 30 patients (18 males and 12 females; aged 57.8±10.5 years) with unresectable pelvic recurrent CRC who had previously received radiotherapy or chemotherapy were included. A total of 35 tumors ranging from 1.2 to 6.3 cm underwent cryoablation. Tumor response was evaluated 1 month after cryoablation according to the Modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors. Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors for tumor response. Degree of pain palliation was also determined using the Numerical Rating Scale. Cox proportional hazard models were used to identify predictors of outcomes. Results: Cryoablation was successfully performed in all patients. Complete response (CR) was achieved for 27 tumors in 23 patients and partial response was achieved for eight tumors in seven patients 1 month after cryoablation. Abstract

Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus discharge into natural water from wastewater treatment plants still have the potential of causing eutrophication. How to remove those excessive nitrogen and phosphorus in an appropriate way is welcome in practice. This study co-removed nitrate and phosphorus via the operation of commercial 201 × 7 exchange resin column, and recovered phosphate simultaneously. Experimental results demonstrated that the adsorption of-P onto the 201 × 7 resin satisfactorily fitted to Freundlich isotherm, while-N followed Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 12.47 mg/g for-P and 107.59 mg/g for-N, respectively. Up to 92% of-P and 90% of-N in the secondary effluent were recovered by 201 × 7 resin column under the optimal flow rate of 50 BV/h. The exhausted 201 × 7 resin could be regenerated by 5% NaCl within 1 h at a flow rate of 15 BV/h. Moreover, this regeneration would guarantee the effluent-P and-N are lower than the breakthrough points even when 1175 BV wastewater passed the resin column. Abstract

Activated carbons were prepared using sewage sludge with additive scrap iron as precursor and ZnCl2as activator by pyrolysis method. By examining the effects of pyrolysis temperature, pyrolysis time, impregnation ratio, and scrap iron dosage on the adsorption performance of the sludge with additive scrap iron-based activated carbon, the optimum preparation conditions were obtained as following: pyrolysis temperature of 550°C, pyrolysis time of 50 min, impregnation ratio of 3:1, and scrap iron dosage of 0.5 wt %. The physical and chemical characteristics of the activated carbons produced from sewage sludge with and without additive scrap iron were determined and compared. The results showed that adding scrap iron into sewage sludge could enhance the pyrolysis of sludge and significantly improve the formation of mesopores in the produced activated carbon. In the adsorption experiments applying the prepared activated carbons to the treatment of azo dye wastewater, the adsorption data fitted the Langmuir model well. The adsorption performance of the activated carbon for the dye was remarkably enhanced after the addition of scrap iron, with the maximum adsorption capacity increasing from 156.25 to 243.31 mg/g.
