Search

The Super $\tau$-Charm facility (STCF) is an electron-positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics community. It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $\tau$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

Within the chiral unitary approach, the axial-vector resonance $K_1(1270)$ has been predicted to manifest a two-pole nature. The lowest pole has a mass of 1195 Mev and a width of 246 Mev and couples mostly to $K^*\pi$, and the highest pole has a mass of 1284 Mev and a width of 146 Mev and couples mostly to $\rho K$. We analyze theoretically how this double-pole structure can show up in the $D^0\to \pi^+ VP$ decays by looking at the vector-pseudoscalar ($VP$) invariant mass distribution for different $VP$ channels, exploiting the fact that each pole couples differently to different $VP$ pairs. We find that the final $\bar K^*\pi$ and $\rho \bar K$ channels are sensible to the different poles of the $K_1(1270)$ resonance and hence are suitable reactions to analyze experimentally the double pole nature of this resonance., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Electronic properties of kagome lattice have drawn great attention recently. In associate with flat-band induced by destructive interference and Dirac cone-type dispersion, abundant exotic phenomena have been theoretically discussed. The material realization of electronic kagome lattice is a crucial step towards comprehending kagome physics and achieving novel quantum phases. Here, combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, transport measurements and first-principle calculations, we expose a planar flat-band in paramagnetic YCr6Ge6 as a typical signature of electronic kagome lattice. We unearth that the planar flat-band arises from the d_(z^2 ) electrons with intra-kagome-plane hopping forbidden by destructive interference. On the other hand, the destructive interference and flatness of the d_(x^2-y^2 ) and d_xy bands are decomposed possibly due to additional in-plane hopping terms, but the Dirac cone-type dispersion is reserved near chemical potential. We explicitly unveil that orbital character plays an essential role to realize electronic kagome lattice in bulk materials with transition metal kagome layers. Paramagnetic YCr6Ge6 provides an opportunity to comprehend intrinsic properties of electronic kagome lattice as well as its interplays with spin orbit coupling and electronic correlation of Cr-3d electrons, and be free from complications induced by strong local moment of ions in kagome planes.

We study the $B^+ \to J/\psi \omega K^+ $ reaction, measured by the LHCb collaboration, and show that it is driven by the presence of two resonances, the $X(3940)$ and $X(3930)$, that are of molecular nature and couple most strongly to $D^* \bar{D}^*$, but also to $J/\psi\omega$. Because of that, in the $J/\psi\omega$ mass distribution we find a peak related to the excitation of the resonances and a cusp with large strength at the $D^* \bar{D}^*$ threshold., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1801.07091

A-site ordered manganites $R$BaMn$_{2}$O$_{6}$ ($R$ = La, Pr, Nd, Sm) were synthesized and the oxygen isotope effect in them was studied. It was found that the substitution of $^{16}$O by $^{18}$O has caused increases in both the Neel temperature ($T$$_{N}$) and the charge ordering temperature ($T$$_{CO}$) and an decrease in the Curie temperature ($T$$_{C}$). The isotope exponent is small on $T$$_{C}$ and $T$$_{CO}$ compared with that in A-site disordered manganites such as La$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$, which may be caused by weaker electron-phonon coupling in A-site ordered ones. But the isotope exponent of $T$$_{N}$ is large for $R$ = La. We didn't observe the large oxygen-isotope shift that occurs in NdBaMn$_{2}$O$_{6}$, where a multicritical point is believed to appear near $R$ = Nd, and strong fluctuation due to the competition between ferromagnetic metal and charge ordering phase should be present., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

The authors investigated the structure and properties of GdBaCo$_{2}$O$_{5.5+\delta}$ thin films epitaxially grown on SrTiO$_{3}$ (001) single crystal substrates. The thin films were found to have a notable remnant magnetization above room temperature, which is much higher than that observed in bulk material. Transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction patterns reveal that phase separation occurs in these films, and the phase responsible for the enhanced ferromagnetic order is $a$-oriented. The enhanced ferromagnetic order is attributed to the enhanced orbital order of Co$^{3+}$ in CoO$_{5}$ pyramids, and the disappearance of ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition is explained the stabilization of higher spin state of Co$^{3+}$ in CoO$_{6}$ octahedra., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Resistivity under magnetic field, thermopower and Hall coefficient are systematically studied for [Bi$_2$Ba$_{1.3}$K$_{0.6}$Co$_{0.1}$]$^{RS}$[CoO$_2$]$_{1.97}$ single crystal. In-plane resistivity ($\rho_{ab}$(T)) shows metallic behavior down to 2 K with a $T^2$ dependence below 30 K; while out-of-plane resistivity ($\rho_{c}(T)$) shows metallic behavior at high temperature and a thermal activation semiconducting behavior below about 12 K. Striking feature is that magnetic field induces a ln(1/$T$) diverging behavior in both $\rho_{ab}$ and $\rho_{c}(T)$ at low temperature. The positive magnetoresistance (MR) could be well fitted by the formula based on multi-band electronic structure. The ln(1/$T$) diverging behavior in $\rho_{ab}$ and $\rho_{c}(T)$ could arise from the magnetic-field-induced 2D weak localization or spin density wave., Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures

Transport properties are systematically studied for the single crystals Cu$_{x}$TiSe$_{2}$ (0.015$\leq$x$\leq$0.110). Both of in-plane and out-of-plane resistivity show the coexistence of superconducting transition and charge density wave (CDW) for the single crystals with $x \leq 0.025$. After CDW state is completely suppressed around x=0.055, the superconductivity is apparently enhanced by Cu doping. No superconducting transition is observed above 1.8 K for Cu$_{0.11}$TiSe$_{2}$. Anisotropy in resistivity increases with increasing Cu content, and is nearly $T$-independent. CDW state has a strong effect on Hall coefficient and thermopower. A large thermopower, comparable to the triangle lattice $NaxCoO_2$, is observed in Cu$_{x}$TiSe$_{2}$. Intercalation of Cu induces a negative MR due to the interaction between conducting carries and localized magnetic moments., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

The oxygen isotope effect on the superconductivity, stripe phase and structure transition is systematically investigated in La$_{1.6-x}$Nd$_{0.4}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_4$ with static stripe phase. Substitution of $^{16}$O by $^{18}$O leads to a decrease in superconducting transition temperature T$_C$, while enhances the temperature of the structural transition from low-temperature-orthorhombic (LTO) phase to low-temperature-tetragonal (LTT) phase. Compared to the Nd free sample, a larger isotope effect on $T_C$ is observed in La$_{1.6-x}$Nd$_{0.4}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_4$. These results indicate that the distortion of CuO$_2$ plane suppresses the superconductivity, giving a direct evidence for the competing of stripe phase and superconductivity because the distortion of CuO$_2$ plane enhances the stripe phase., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

The isothermal magnetoresistance (MR) with magnetic field (H) parallel to and perpendicular to ab plane is systematically studied on the single crystal Na$_{0.52}$CoO$_2$ with charge ordering at $\sim 50$ K and an in-plane ferromagnetism below 25 K. The isothermal MR behavior with H $\parallel$ ab plane and H $\perp$ ab plane is quite different. When H $\parallel$ ab plane, the MR is always negative and the in-plane ferromagnetic behavior is enhanced. While the MR with H $\perp$ ab plane changes from negative to positive with decreasing temperature or increasing H, and the in-plane ferromagnetic behavior is suppressed. A striking feature is that the MR with H $\perp$ ab plane shows a hysteresis behavior below 25 K, which is absent for the case of H $\parallel$ ab plane. These results provide strong evidence for a spin-flop transition of small moments of Co$^{3.5-\delta}$ sites induced by H $\perp$ ab plane, leading to a metamagnetic transition for small moments of Co$^{3.5-\delta}$ sites. These complex magnetism suggests an unconventional superconductivity in Na$_x$CoO$_2$ system because the Na$_x$CoO$_2$ around x=0.5 is considered to be the parent compound of superconductivity., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

We have systematically studied the transport properties of the La$_{2-x}$Y$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$(LYCO) films of T'-phase ($0.05\leq x \leq 0.30$). In this nominally "undoped" system, superconductivity was acquired in certain Y doping range ($0.10\leq x \leq 0.20$). Measurements of resistivity, Hall coefficients in normal states and resistive critical field ($H^\rho_{c2}$)in superconducting states of the T'-LYCO films show the similar behavior as the known Ce-doped n-type cuprate superconductors, indicating the intrinsic electron-doping nature. The charge carriers are induced by oxygen deficiency. Non-superconducting Y-doped Pr- or Nd-based T'-phase cuprate films were also investigated for comparison, suggesting the crucial role of the radii of A-site cations in the origin of superconductivity in the nominally "undoped" cuptates. Based on a reasonable scenario in the microscopic reduction process, we put forward a self-consistent interpretation of these experimental observations., Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures

We find an unconventional nucleation of low temperature paramagnetic metal (PMM) phase with monoclinic structure from the matrix of high-temperature antiferromagnetic insulator (AFI) phase with tetragonal structure in strongly correlated electronic system $BaCo_{0.9}Ni_{0.1}S_{1.97}$. Such unconventional nucleation leads to a decease in resistivity by several orders with relaxation at a fixed temperature without external perturbation. The novel dynamical process could arise from the competition of strain fields, Coulomb interactions, magnetic correlations and disorders. Such competition may frustrate the nucleation, giving rise to a slow, nonexponential relaxation and "physical aging" behavior., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We systematically investigate effect of oxygen isotope in $(Pr_{1-x}Sm_x)_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}CoO_3$ which shows a crossover with x from ferromagnetic metal to the insulator with spin-state transition. A striking feature is that effect of oxygen isotope on the ferromagnetic transition is negligible in the metallic phase, while replacing $^{16}O$ with $^{18}O$ leads to a giant up-shift of the spin-state transition temperature ($T_s$) in the insulating phase, especially $T_s$ shifts from 36 to 54 K with isotope component $\alpha_S=-4.7$ for the sample with x=0.175. A metal-insulator transition is induced by oxygen isotope exchange in the sample x=0.172 being close to the insulating phase. The contrasting behaviors observed in the two phases can be well explained by occurrence of static Jahn-Teller distortions in the insulating phase, while absence of them in the metallic phase., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

The magnetic and transport properties are systematically studied on the single crystal $Na_{0.55}CoO_2$ with charge ordering and divergency in resistivity below 50 K. A long-range ferromagnetic ordering is observed in susceptibility below 20 K with the magnetic field parallel to Co-O plane, while a negligible behavior is observed with the field perpendicular to the Co-O plane. It definitely gives a direct evidence for the existence of in-plane ferromagnetism below 20 K. The observed magnetoresistance (MR) of 30 % at the field of 6 T at low temperatures indicates an unexpectedly strong spin-charge coupling in triangle lattice systems., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

Oxygen isotope substitution is performed in the perovskite cobalt oxide (Pr$_{0.7}$Sm$_{0.3}$)$_{0.7}$Ca$_{0.3}$CoO${_3}$ which shows a sharp spin state transition from the intermediate spin (IS) state to the low spin (LS) state at a certain temperature. The transition temperature of the spin state up-shifts with the substitution of $^{16}O$ by $^{18}$O from the resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The up-shift value is 6.8 K and an oxygen isotope exponent ($\alpha_S$) is about -0.8. The large oxygen isotope effect indicates strong electron-phonon coupling in this material. The substitution of $^{16}$O by $^{18}$O leads to a decrease in the frequency of phonon and an increase in the effective mass of electron ($m$$^\ast$), so that the bandwidth W is decreased and the energy difference between the different spin states is increased. This is the reason why the $T_s$ is shifted to high temperature with oxygen isotopic exchange., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

Resistivity and dc magnetization measurements were performed for the polycrystalline Pr$_{0.5}$Ca$_{0.5}$Co$_{1-x}$Fe$_{x}$O$_{3-\delta}$ ($x$ = 0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) samples. The as-fabricated samples exhibit ferromagnetic (FM) transition and the transition temperature increases with increasing the iron doping level. Annealing under high oxygen pressure induces a spin-state transition of Co ions in the \emph{iron-free} sample and such transition is reinforced with increasing the annealing oxygen pressure, while the annealing under high oxygen pressure suppresses the ferromagnetic ordering. Contrary to the case of the \emph{iron-free} sample, no spin-state transition is induced by the annealing under high oxygen pressure for the \emph{iron-doped} samples, and the ferromagnetic transition temperature is nearly independent of the annealing procedures. The enhancement of the spin-state transition in the \emph{iron-free} sample after annealing under high oxygen pressure should be attributed to the reduction of the cell volume. The suppression of the spin-state transition by the Fe doping is related to the enlargement of the cell volume and the stronger Fe-O bonds than Co-O bonds. The enhancement of the ferromagnetism by the iron-doping might arise from the ferromagnetic exchange interaction between Fe$^{3+}$ and Co$^{4+}$ through oxygen (Fe$^{3+}$-O-Co$^{4+}$)., Comment: 11 figures

Hall coefficient $R_H$ and thermoelectric power TEP are studied systematically in the single crystals $Nd_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_{4+\delta}$ (NCCO) with different x from underdoped to overdoped regime. With increasing doping level, both $R_H$ and TEP decrease and change their sign from negative to positive. A striking feature is that the temperature dependence of the Hall angle follows a $T^4$ behavior in the underdoped regime, while a $T^2$ in the overdoped regime. Magnetic and transport properties of polycrystalline Gd$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$CoO$_{3}$ ($x$= 0.10-0.70) are investigated systemically. Cluster-glass magnetism for $x \leq$ 0.45 and long-range ferromagnetic order in higher doping level are observed. Transport measurements indicate insulator-like behaviors for the samples with $x \leq$ 0.30, and an insulator-metal (IM) transition around $x$ = 0.35, and metallic behaviors for higher $x$ samples. In contrast to La$_{1-x}$Sr$_{x}$COO$_{3}$, the striking feature is that the system reenters insulator-like state for $x \geq$ 0.60, and the long-range ferromagnetic order and IM transition take place in samples with higher Sr content. It could be attributed to the enhancement of low-spin state stability for the trivalent Co ions due to the small radius of Gd$^{3+}$ ion., Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures

Magnetoresistance (MR) of the Bi$_{2-x}$Pb$_x$Sr$_2$Co$_2$O$_y$ ($x$=0, 0.3, 0.4) single crystals is investigated systematically. A nonmonotonic variation of the isothermal in-plane and out-of-plane MR with the field is observed. The out-of-plane MR is positive in high temperatures and increases with decreasing $T$, and exhibits a pronounced hump, and changes the sign from positive to negative at a centain temperature. These results strongly suggest that the observed MR consists of two contributions: one \emph{negative} and one \emph{positive} component. The isothermal MR in high magnetic fields follows a $H^2$ law. While the negative contribution comes from spin scattering of carriers by localized-magnetic-moments based on the Khosla-Fischer model., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

The out-of-plane resistivity ($\rho_c$) and magnetoresistivity (MR) are studied in antiferromangetic (AF) $Nd_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_{4}$ single crystals, which have three types of noncollinear antiferromangetic spin structures. The apparent signatures are observed in $\rho_c(T)$ measured at the zero-field and 14 T at the spin structure transitions, giving a definite evidence for the itinerant electrons directly coupled to the localized spins. One of striking feature is an anisotropy of the MR with a fourfold symmetry upon rotating the external field (B) within ab plane in the different phases, while twofold symmetry at spin reorientation transition temperatures. The intriguing thermal hysteresis in $\rho_c(T,B)$ and magnetic hysteresis in MR are observed at spin reorientation transition temperatures., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Transport property is investigated in [Ca$_{2}$CoO$_{3-\delta}$]$_{0.62}$[CoO$_{2}$] single crystals obtained by varying annealing conditions. The $\rho_{ab}(T)$ exhibits a resistivity minimum, and the temperature corresponding to this minimum increases with the loss of oxygen content, indicative of the enhancement of spin density wave (SDW). Large negative magnetoresistance (MR) was observed in all single crystals [Ca$_{2}$CoO$_{3-\delta}$]$_{0.62}$[CoO$_{2}$], while a magnetic-field-driven insulator-to-metal (IM) transition in oxygen annealed samples. These results suggest a ferromagnetic correlation in system enhanced by oxygen content. In addition, a low temperature thermal activation resistivity induced by fields was observed in single crystals annealed in oxygen atmosphere., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

The in-plane ($\rho_{ab}$) and c-axis ($\rho_c$) resistivities, and the magnetoresistivity of single crystals $Na_xCoO_2$ with x = 0.7, 0.5 and 0.3 were studied systematically. $\rho_{ab}(T)$ shows similar temperature dependence between $Na_{0.3}CoO_2$ and $Na_{0.7}CoO_2$, while $\rho_c(T)$ is quite different. A dimensional crossover from two to three occurs with decreasing Na concentration from 0.7 to 0.3. The angular dependence of in-plane magnetoresistivity for 0.5 sample shows a \emph{"d-wave-like"} symmetry at 2K, while the \emph{"p-wave-like"} symmetry at 20 K. These results give an evidence for existence of a \emph{spin ordering orientation} below 20 K turned by external field, like the stripes in cuprates., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

Raman spectra of LCMO films grown on LAO (001), STO (001), and MgO (001) substrates were studied at different temperatures. The effect of temperature, doping level and strain on Raman spectra are discussed in detail. With decreasing temperature, the changes of Raman spectra are correlated with the disorder-order transition, shuch as: paramagnetism to ferromagnetism, and charge-ordering. The strain induced by lattice-substrate mismatch affects the Raman spectra strongly. The mode induced by disorder of oxygen defects is apparently observed in $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_3$ film on STO due to the larger tensile strain. While this mode can not be seen in the Raman spectra for the films on LAO and MgO. A strong unsigned mode at about 690 $cm^{-1}$ is observed in all films except for $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_3$ film on LAO, which is not observed in bulk sample easily. Magnetic and transport properties of $Co Sr_2 Y_{1-x} Ca_x Cu_2 O_7$ ($x=0 \sim 0.4$) system have been investigated. A broad maximum in M(T) curve, indicative of low-dimensional antiferromagnetic ordering originated from $CoO_{1+\delta}$ layers, is observed in Ca-free sample. With increasing Ca doping level up to 0.2, the M(T) curve remains almost unchanged, while resistivity is reduced by three orders. Higher Ca doping level leads to a drastic change of magnetic properties. In comparison with the samples with $x=0.0 \sim 0.2$, the temperature corresponding to the maximum of M(T) is much lowered for the sample $x$=0.3. The sample $x$=0.4 shows a small kink instead of a broad maximum and a weak ferromagnetic feature. The electrical transport behavior is found to be closely related to magnetic properties for the sample $x$=0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.4. It suggests that $CoO_{1+\delta}$ layers are involved in charge transport in addition to conducting $CuO_2$ planes to interpret the correlation between magnetism and charge transport. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies give an additional evidence of the the transfer of the holes into the $CoO_{1+\delta}$ charge reservoir.
