Abstract

In this paper, we designed and synthesized a novel TBET-based ratiometric fluorescent chemodosimeter, RH-Au, for Au3+. It was found that the probe RH-Au displayed highly selective, sensitive and naked-eye detection upon the addition of Au3+. The probe RH-Au can be used in the pH range 6.0–7.5 and the detection limit was determined to be as low as 2.91 nM (0.57 ppb). 37. Polydiacetylene liposome-encapsulated alginate hydrogel beads for Pb2+ detection with enhanced sensitivity.

Abstract

The development of a novel and simple method to trace lead ions (Pb2+) has received great attention due to its high toxicity to human health and the environment. In this paper, we describe a new polydiacetylene (PDA)-based liposome sensor for the colorimetric and fluorometric detection of Pb2+ in aqueous solution and in alginate hydrogel microbeads. In the sensor system, a dopamine group was rationally introduced into a diacetylene monomer to work as a strong binding site for Pb2+. The dopamine-functionalized monomer and 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA) were then incorporated into PDA liposomes in aqueous solution. After UV light-induced polymerization, deep blue colored liposome solutions were obtained. Upon the addition of various metal ions into the liposome solution, only Pb2+ could cause a distinct color change from blue to red and a dramatic fluorescence enhancement. To further improve its sensitivity and address its intrinsic aggregation, we then developed a liposome-immobilized detection system by encapsulating PDA–DA liposomes into alginate hydrogel beads through a microfluidic droplet-based method. The results showed that the PDA–DA liposome-containing hybrid hydrogel beads possessed excellent stability and high sensitivity. These interesting findings demonstrated that the PDA liposome system developed in the current study may offer a new method for Pb2+ recognition in a more efficient manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Organicsolid-state luminescence switching (SLS) materials withthe ability to reversibly switch the luminescence by altering themode of molecular packing without changing the chemical structuresof their component molecules have attracted considerable interestin recent years. In this work, we design and synthesize a new classof 2,7-diphenylfluorenone derivatives (compounds 1–6) that exhibit prominent aggregation-induced emission (AIE)properties with high solid-state fluorescence quantum yields (29–65%).Among them, 2,7-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-9H-fluoren-9-one(2) and 2,7-bis(4-ethylphenyl)-9H-fluoren-9-one(6) display reversible stimuli-responsive solid-stateluminescence switching. Compound 2transforms betweenred and yellow crystals (the emission wavelength switches between601 and 551 nm) under the stimuli of temperature, pressure, or solventvapor. Similarly, compound 6exhibits SLS behavior, withluminescence switching between orange (571 nm) and yellow (557 nm).Eight X-ray single-crystal structures, characterization of the photophysicalproperties, powder X-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetryprovide insight into the structure–property relationships ofthe solid-state fluorescence behavior. The results indicate that thevariable solid-state luminescence of the fluorenone derivatives isattributed to the formation of different excimers in different solidphases. Additionally, the stimuli-responsive reversible phase transformationsof compounds 2and 6involve a structuraltransition between π–π stacking-directed packingand hydrogen bond-directed packing. The results also demonstrate thefeasibility of our design strategy for new solid-state luminescenceswitching materials: introduction of both π–π stackingand hydrogen bonding into an AIE structure to obtain a metastablesolid/crystalline state luminescence system. Abstract

Based on the formation of a red [Cd-diphenylcarbazide] complex, a simple and visible method for Cd2+colorimetric detection was developed by doping SiO2nanoparticles and diphenylcarbazide in polymethylmethacrylate electrospun fibers. Benefiting from the large surface area due to the addition of SiO2nanoparticles, the color of the fibrous film changed clearly even in the presence of extremely low concentrations of Cd2+. The detection limit was found to be 1 × 10−8M. Investigation of the selectivity of the fibrous film on the detection of various metal ions showed that only Cd2+could induce a yellow-to-red color change. The results demonstrated that SiO2and diphenylcarbazide doped polymethylmethacrylate fibrous films could act as highly selective strips for the detection of Cd2+with little interference from other metal ions.
