A state vector-based quantum circuit simulation can provide accurate results for the development and validation of quantum computing algorithms, without being affected by noise interference. However, existing quantum circuit simulators have consistently underperformed due to inadequate integration with quantum circuits and high-performance computing architectures. To tackle the challenges in quantum computing, we propose QueenV2, which builds upon the design principles of Queen and elevates performance to a new level. Experimental results on the NVIDIA RTX-4090 demonstrate that QueenV2 achieves up to a 40x improvement in gate performance and a 5x improvement in circuit performance compared to hyQuas. Furthermore, QueenV2 realizes a 137x speedup in gate benchmarks and a 14x speedup in circuit performance relative to NVIDIA cuQuantum, enabled by gate fusion via the IBM Qiskit toolkit. By eliminating reliance on third-party libraries, QueenV2 is positioned to significantly accelerate quantum circuit simulation, thus promoting the development of innovative accelerators and quantum algorithms.

Electronic textiles (E-textiles) offer great wearing comfort and unobtrusiveness, thus holding potential for next-generation health monitoring wearables. However, the practical implementation is hampered by challenges associated with poor signal quality, substantial motion artifacts, durability for long-term usage, and non-ideal user experience. Here, we report a cost-effective E-textile system that features 3D microfiber-based electrodes for greatly increasing the surface area. The soft and fluffy conductive microfibers disperse freely and securely adhere to the skin, achieving a low impedance at the electrode-skin interface even in the absence of gel. A superhydrophobic fluorinated self-assembled monolayer was deposited on the E-textile surface to render it waterproof while retaining the electrical conductivity. Equipped with a custom-designed motion-artifact canceling wireless data recording circuit, the E-textile system could be integrated into a variety of smart garments for exercise physiology and health monitoring applications. Real-time multimodal electrophysiological signal monitoring, including electrocardiogram (ECG) and electromyography (EMG), was successfully carried out during strenuous cycling and even underwater swimming activities. The state vector-based simulation offers a convenient approach to developing and validating quantum algorithms with noise-free results. However, limited by the absence of cache-aware implementations and unpolished circuit optimizations, the past simulators were severely constrained in performance, leading to stagnation in quantum computing. In this paper, we present an innovative quantum circuit simulation toolkit comprising gate optimization and simulation modules to address these performance challenges. For the performance, scalability, and comprehensive evaluation, we conduct a series of particular circuit benchmarks and strong scaling tests on a DGX-A100 workstation and achieve averaging 9 times speedup compared to state-of-the-art simulators, including QuEST, IBM-Aer, and NVIDIA-cuQuantum. Moreover, the critical performance metric FLOPS increases by up to a factor of 8-fold, and arithmetic intensity experiences a remarkable 96x enhancement. We believe the proposed toolkit paves the way for faster quantum circuit simulations, thereby facilitating the development of novel quantum algorithms.

Named entity recognition (NER) is a fundamental task in natural language processing that involves identifying and classifying entities in sentences into pre-defined types. It plays a crucial role in various research fields, including entity linking, question answering, and online product recommendation. Recent studies have shown that incorporating multilingual and multimodal datasets can enhance the effectiveness of NER. This is due to language transfer learning and the presence of shared implicit features across different modalities. However, the lack of a dataset that combines multilingualism and multimodality has hindered research exploring the combination of these two aspects, as multimodality can help NER in multiple languages simultaneously. In this paper, we aim to address a more challenging task: multilingual and multimodal named entity recognition (MMNER), considering its potential value and influence. Specifically, we construct a large-scale MMNER dataset with four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) and two modalities (text and image). To tackle this challenging MMNER task on the dataset, we introduce a new model called 2M-NER, which aligns the text and image representations using contrastive learning and integrates a multimodal collaboration module to effectively depict the interactions between the two modalities. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves the highest F1 score in multilingual and multimodal NER tasks compared to some comparative and representative baselines. Additionally, in a challenging analysis, we discovered that sentence-level alignment interferes a lot with NER models, indicating the higher level of difficulty in our dataset., Comment: 20 pages

We exploit holographic duality to study the system of a one-dimensional interface contacting two semi-infinite two-dimensional CFTs. Central to our investigation is the introduction of a dynamical scalar field located on the bulk interface brane which breaks the scaling symmetry of the dual interface field theory, along with its consequential backreaction on the system. We define an interface entropy from holographic entanglement entropy. At zero temperature we construct several illustrative examples and observe that the $g$-theorem is always satisfied. These examples also reveal distinct features of the interface entropy that are intricately linked to the scalar potential profiles. Nonreciprocity, which denotes the asymmetric or even unidirectional transmission of light, constitutes the cornerstone of modern photonic circuits. In the realm of photonic devices, it has been widely utilized in isolators, circulators and so on. Recent topology in artificial materials, an unprecedented degree of freedom, has been proposed to solve the effect of impurities on nonreciprocal transmission. However, in view of the bulk-edge correspondence, the spatial width of the transmission channel with uniform field distribution is quite narrow and needs further exploration. In this paper, we proposed a one-way valley-locked waveguide with a large channel in an all-dielectric photonic crystal. Quite different from the topological edge modes, the unidirectional property of our waveguide comes from the bulk modes with valley-lock, which can fully utilize the whole dimension of the structure with an efficiency of 100%. Quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) is one of the popular quantum algorithms that are used to solve combinatorial optimization problems via approximations. QAOA is able to be evaluated on both physical and virtual quantum computers simulated by classical computers, with virtual ones being favored for their noise-free feature and availability. Nevertheless, performing QAOA on virtual quantum computers suffers from a slow simulation speed for solving combinatorial optimization problems which require large-scale quantum circuit simulation (QCS). In this paper, we propose techniques to accelerate QCS for QAOA using mathematical optimizations to compress quantum operations, incorporating efficient bitwise operations to further lower the computational complexity, and leveraging different levels of parallelisms from modern multi-core processors, with a study case to show the effectiveness on solving max-cut problems.

Sound event localization and detection (SELD) involves sound event detection (SED) and direction of arrival (DoA) estimation tasks. SED mainly relies on temporal dependencies to distinguish different sound classes, while DoA estimation depends on spatial correlations to estimate source directions. This paper addresses the need to simultaneously extract spatial-temporal information in audio signals to improve SELD performance. A novel block, the sliding-window graph-former (SwG-former), is designed to learn temporal context information of sound events based on their spatial correlations. The SwG-former block transforms audio signals into a graph representation and constructs graph vertices to capture higher abstraction levels for spatial correlations. It uses different-sized sliding windows to adapt various sound event durations and aggregates temporal features with similar spatial information while incorporating multi-head self-attention (MHSA) to model global information. Furthermore, as the cornerstone of message passing, a robust Conv2dAgg function is proposed and embedded into the block to aggregate the features of neighbor vertices. As a result, a SwG-former model, which stacks the SwG-former blocks, demonstrates superior performance compared to recent advanced SELD models. The SwG-former block is also integrated into the event-independent network version 2 (EINV2), called SwG-EINV2, which surpasses the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods under the same acoustic environment.

In this paper, we introduce a new approach for high-quality multi-exposure image fusion (MEF). We show that the fusion weights of an exposure can be encoded into a 1D lookup table (LUT), which takes pixel intensity value as input and produces fusion weight as output. We learn one 1D LUT for each exposure, then all the pixels from different exposures can query 1D LUT of that exposure independently for high-quality and efficient fusion. Specifically, to learn these 1D LUTs, we involve attention mechanism in various dimensions including frame, channel and spatial ones into the MEF task so as to bring us significant quality improvement over the state-of-the-art (SOTA). In addition, we collect a new MEF dataset consisting of 960 samples, 155 of which are manually tuned by professionals as ground-truth for evaluation. Our network is trained by this dataset in an unsupervised manner. Extensive experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of all the newly proposed components, and results show that our approach outperforms the SOTA in our and another representative dataset SICE, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Moreover, our 1D LUT approach takes less than 4ms to run a 4K image on a PC GPU. Given its high quality, efficiency and robustness, our method has been shipped into millions of Android mobiles across multiple brands world-wide. Foundation Industries (FIs) constitute glass, metals, cement, ceramics, bulk chemicals, paper, steel, etc. and provide crucial, foundational materials for a diverse set of economically relevant industries: automobiles, machinery, construction, household appliances, chemicals, etc. Reheating furnaces within the manufacturing chain of FIs are energy-intensive. Accurate and real-time prediction of underlying temperatures in reheating furnaces has the potential to reduce the overall heating time, thereby controlling the energy consumption for achieving the Net-Zero goals in FIs. In this paper, we cast this prediction as a regression task and explore neural networks due to their inherent capability of being effective and efficient, given adequate data. However, due to the infeasibility of achieving good-quality real data in scenarios like reheating furnaces, classical Hottel's zone method based computational model has been used to generate data for model training. Microscale imaging of mesoscale bulk materials under dynamic compression is important for understanding their properties. In this work, we study the effects of the depth of field (DoF) and field of view (FoV) of the optical lens and extract the scattered light of the region to be imaged within the bulk polycrystalline material based on the objective Bragg coherent diffraction imaging. We describe how the DoF and FoV quantitatively limit the diffraction volume, where the DoF and FoV limit the scattering region parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the light source respectively. We demonstrate this scheme by simulating the separate imaging of a submicron-sized crack region within a few {\mu}m-sized Si bulk material, and obtain a high imaging quality. Most medical dialogue systems assume that patients have clear goals (medicine querying, surgical operation querying, etc.) before medical consultation. However, in many real scenarios, due to the lack of medical knowledge, it is usually difficult for patients to determine clear goals with all necessary slots. In this paper, we identify this challenge as how to construct medical consultation dialogue systems to help patients clarify their goals. To mitigate this challenge, we propose a novel task and create a human-to-human mixed-type medical consultation dialogue corpus, termed MidMed, covering five dialogue types: task-oriented dialogue for diagnosis, recommendation, knowledge-grounded dialogue, QA, and chitchat. MidMed covers four departments (otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, skin, and digestive system), with 8,175 dialogues. Furthermore, we build baselines on MidMed and propose an instruction-guiding medical dialogue generation framework, termed InsMed, to address this task.
