Abstract

Color Sequential Front‐lit LCOS (CSFLLCOS) is a compact (<0.5cc) and high brightness (110000nits/300mW) imaging solution for AR displays. However, as large FOV AR glasses i.e. >40 o become more and more popular, a higher brightness output requirement is imposed on the imager. A new LED coupling lens and waveguide plate structure have recently been proposed to promote the polarization recycling efficiency (PCE) and TpRs ratio respectively in CSFLLCOS. Abstract

A lightweight, compact, and high efficiency display is the essential component for AR glasses. We proposed a so‐call Front‐lit LCOS (FLLCOS) device to fit all performance metrics. It just weights less than 1gram. The size of the full module is as small as <0.52cc. It can deliver over 30000nits using Color Filter Front lit LCOS. Recently, we are also developing Color Sequential Front lit LCOS which can provide 3 times brighter image for AR applications.

Abstract

As the pixel size becomes smaller, the color performance of Color Filter LCOS will be deteriorated by strong Fringing Field Effect (FFE). In this paper, a Fringe Field Color Filter concept is proposed. It can improve the color performance by 30%. The resolution of the Color Filter CFLCOS can be increased by 5 times.
