This meta-analysis aims to comprehensively assess the impact of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) on wound infection in patients with prostate cancer (PCa). A systematic search was conducted, from database inception to November 2023, in EMBASE, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing LRP with open radical prostatectomy (ORP) in the treatment of PCa. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and conducted quality assessments based on pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stata 17.0 software was employed for data analysis. Overall, 15 RCTs involving 1458 PCa patients were included. The analysis revealed the incidence of wound infection (odds ratio [OR] = 0.28, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.16-0.51, p < 0.001) and complications (OR = 0.27, 95% CI = 0.20-0.37, p < 0.001) was significantly lower in the LRP group compared to the ORP group. This study demonstrates that LRP in PCa patients can effectively reduce the incidence of wound infections and complications, indicating significant therapeutic efficacy and justifying its broader clinical application., (© 2024 The Authors. Crystallization of organic steric molecules often leads to multiple polyhedral crystal morphologies. However, the relationships among the molecular structure, supramolecular interaction, aggregation mode and crystal morphology are still unclear. In this work, we elaborate two model crystals formed by spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene] (SFX) and spiro[cyclopenta[1,2-b : 5,4-b']dipyridine-5,9'-xanthene] (SDAFX) to demonstrate the feasibility of morphology prediction by periodic bond chain (PBC) theory based on interaction energy (IE) values in terms of single point energy. With non-directional van der Waals forces, only one PBC direction is found in SFX crystal, leading to the irregular 1D rod-like structure. Compared with SFX, the extra N heteroatoms in SDAFX can bring additional hydrogen bonds and some other interactions into the bulky molecular skeletons, inducing 3-dimensionally oriented PBCs to form the explicit F-face network in SDAFX which leads to the final octahedral structure. A simple and accurate method has been provided to quantify PBC vector on the supramolecular level in the organic molecular system, and the PBC theory has also been further demonstrated and developed in the morphology prediction of organic spiro-molecules., (© 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Land salinization considerably limits crop production. Biological improvement of saline and alkaline land is an important way to achieve efficient land use. It is crucial to study the salt tolerance of halophyte resources in order to explore and improve plant resources through biological improvement. Glaux maritima is a mesophyte halophyte with strong salt tolerance. In this study, we conducted research on the salt tolerance mechanism of G. maritima through phenotypic, physiological, and transcriptomic aspects. The results indicate that leaf cross-sections revealed that G. maritima has a salt gland tissue composed of stalk, collecting, and secretory cells, which are trapped in epidermal cells. At the physiological level, the maximum salt tolerance threshold of G. maritima leaves was 600 mM/L. At this concentration, proline content, relative conductivity, and superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) enzyme activities were maximum. At the transcriptional level, transcriptome data of three experimental groups (N0: 0 mM/L, N3: 600 mM/L, and N4: 800 mM/L) were analyzed, and six essential genes related to proline synthesis and five essential genes related to SOD and CAT enzyme activities were identified. Two genes involved in CAT enzyme activity were also found to play an important role in the MAPK signaling pathway. Trend analysis revealed that the MAPK signaling regulation (37 differentially expressed genes (DEGs)), phytohormone regulation (48 DEGs), glutathione metabolism (8 DEGs), flavonoid and flavonoid biosynthesis (2DEGs), and flavonoid biosynthesis (24 DEGs) pathways played important roles in regulating the salt tolerance of G. maritima . A prediction model of the welding process of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy was established by using the finite element method, which was used to evaluate the phase composition, residual stress and deformation of the welded joints of Ti-6Al-4V sheets with different processes (including tungsten inert gas welding, TIG, and laser beam welding, LBW). The Ti-6Al-4V structures of TIG welding and LBW are widely used in marine engineering. In order to quantitatively study the effects of different welding processes (including TIG welding and LBW) on the microstructure evolution, macro residual stress and deformation of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy sheets during welding, a unified prediction model considering solid-state phase transformation was established based on the ABAQUS subroutine. In this paper, LBW and TIG welding experiments of 1.6 mm thick Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy sheets were designed. The microstructure distribution of the welded joints observed in the experiment was consistent with the phase composition predicted by the model, and the hardness measurement experiment could also verify the phase composition and proportion. From the residual stress measured by experiment and the residual stress and deformation calculated by finite element simulation of LBW and TIG weldments, it is concluded that the effect of phase transformation on residual stress is mainly in the weld area, which has an effect on the distribution of tensile and compressive stress in the weld area. The overall deformation of the welded joint is mainly related to the welding process, and the phase transformation only affects the local volume change of the weld seam. Importantly, the phase composition and residual stress, which are scalar fields, calculated by the established model can be introduced into the numerical analysis of structural fracture failure as input influence factors.

The variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is one of the most representative quantum algorithms in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) era, and is generally speculated to deliver one of the first quantum advantages for the ground-state simulations of some nontrivial Hamiltonians. However, short quantum coherence time and limited availability of quantum hardware resources in the NISQ hardware strongly restrain the capacity and expressiveness of VQEs. In this Letter, we introduce the variational quantum-neural hybrid eigensolver (VQNHE) in which the shallow-circuit quantum Ansatz can be further enhanced by classical post-processing with neural networks. We show that the VQNHE consistently and significantly outperforms the VQE in simulating ground-state energies of quantum spins and molecules given the same amount of quantum resources. More importantly, we demonstrate that, for arbitrary postprocessing neural functions, the VQNHE only incurs a polynomial overhead of processing time and represents the first scalable method to exponentially accelerate the VQE with nonunitary postprocessing that can be efficiently implemented in the NISQ era.

Purpose: To investigate the mechanism of microRNA-100-5p (miR-100-5p) on mammalian target (mTOR) of rapamycin in temporomandibular arthritis., Methods: Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into group A, group B, group C, group D, and group E, with 12 rats in each group. Rat models of temporomandibular arthritis were prepared by injecting sodium iodoacetate solution into the bilateral spaces of temporomandibular joint. After establishment, group C was injected pcDNA3.1-miR-100-5p recombinant plasmid, group D was injected mTOR inhibitor rapamycin, group E was injected with pcDNA3.1-miR-100-5p recombinant plasmid and rapamycin, and group A was injected same amount of normal saline in the same way. Various indexes were observed in each group, including morphological changes of temporomandibular joint tissues, matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), MMP-1, MMP-13, interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), miR-100-5p, mTOR expression. The data were processed using SPSS 22.0 software package., Results: In group B, the structure of temporomandibular joint was fuzzy, with synovial hyperplasia, vascular dilatation, clustered cells and a large amount of inflammatory infiltration. Histopathological changes of temporomandibular joint in each interventional group were improved to different degrees compared with group B, among which group E showed the most obvious improvement. The levels of MMP-3, MMP-1, MMP-13, IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α in group B were significantly higher than those in group A(P＜0.05). The levels of MMP-3, MMP-1, MMP-13, IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α in group C, group D and group E were significantly lower than those in group B(P＜0.05). The levels of MMP-3, MMP-1, MMP-13, IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α in group D were not significantly different from those in group C (P＜0.05). The levels of MMP-3, MMP-1, MMP-13, IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α in group E were significantly lower than those in group D (P＜0.05). The expression level of miR-100-5p in group E was significantly higher than that in group B (P＜0.05). The expression level of mTOR protein in group E was significantly lower than that in group B (P＜0.05)., Conclusions: MicroRNA-100-5p may alleviate temporomandibular arthritis by down-regulating the expression of mTOR.

At present, bacterial infections are mainly treated with antibiotics, but new treatment methods are urgently needed because of growing problems with antibiotic resistance. Therefore, phage therapy will be a potential solution to the problem of bacterial drug resistance, and the combined use of bacteriophage and antibiotics is also considered a potential treatment option. However, there has not been any well-designed clinical controlled trials on phage therapy. More future research needs to be done to solve the problems of phage therapy, for example, its narrow antibacterial spectrum, the uncertainty regarding treatment safety, and the bacterial resistance. Some refractory diseases such as breast cancer and alcoholic hepatitis are difficult to treat clinically. The successful experimental research on bacteriophages reported in these fields provides new ideas of treatment for more refractory diseases in the future. In addition, bacteriophages also showed promising performance in vaccine applications and osteanagenesis. Aim: To investigate the changes of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) among normal individuals, diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy (NDR) and non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR), and explore the possible risk factors of early diabetic retinopathy (DR)., Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 107 participants were divided in three groups. Totally 31 normal individuals (control group), 40 diabetic patients without DR (NDR group) and 36 patients with NPDR (NPDR group) were included. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was used to detect RNFL thickness and other optic disc parameters among different groups. The potential association between RNFL loss and systemic risk factors were assessed for DR, including diabetes duration, body mass index (BMI), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), serum lipids, and blood pressure., Results: The average and each quadrant RNFL thickness were thinner in NPDR group compared to control group of the right ( P =0.00, P =0.01, P =0.01, P =0.02, P =0.04) and left eyes ( P =0.00, P =0.00, P =0.00, P =0.03, P =0.04). The average, superior and inferior RNFL thickness were thinner in NDR group compared to the NPDR group of the right ( P =0.00, P =0.02, P =0.03) and left eyes ( P =0.00, P =0.00, P =0.01). Diabetic duration was negatively correlated with the superior, inferior, and average RNFL thickness of the right ( r =-0.385, P =0.001; r =-0.366, P =0.001; r =-0.503, P =0.000) and left eyes ( r =-0.271, P =0.018; r =0.278, P =0.015; r =-0.260, P =0.023). HbA1c was negatively correlated with the superior, inferior, and average RNFL thickness of the right ( r =-0.316 P =0.005; r =-0.414, P =0.000; r =-0.418, P =0.000) and left eyes ( r =-0.367, P =0.001; r =-0.250, P =0.030; r =-0.393, P =0.000). Systolic pressure was negatively correlated with the inferior and average RNFL thickness of the right eye ( r =-0.402, P =0.000; r =-0.371, P =0.001) and was negatively correlated with the superior and average RNFL thickness of the left eye ( r =-0.264, P =0.021; r =-0.233, P =0.043)., Conclusion: RNFL loss, especially in the superior and inferior quadrants, may be the earliest structural change of the retina in diabetic patients, and is also associated with diabetic duration, HbA1c, and systolic pressure., (International Journal of Ophthalmology Press.)

Objective: To analyze the clinical efficacy and safety of cyberknife in the treatment of patients with primary large hepatocellular carcinoma over 70 years old. Methods: A total of 82 patients (58 males and 24 females) with large hepatocellular carcinoma aged over 70 years (70 to 85 years, (75±4) years) with a median tumor diameter of 6.7 cm (5.0~10.0 cm) were retrospectively collected. All patients were diagnosed by pathology or radiography in the Cancer Radiotherapy Center of the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital from March 2014 to December 2018, and treated with cyberknife stereotactic radiotherapy. Progression free survival rate (PFS), local control rate (LC), overall survival rate (OS) and adverse reactions were observed at 1, 2 and 3 years. Kaplan-Meier was used for survival analysis, and Cox regression model was used to analyze survival-related factors. Results: All 82 patients successfully completed radiation therapy with a median survival time of 20 months, a median PFS of 10 months, an objective response rate of 64.63% (53/82), and a disease control rate of 85.37% (70/82). After treatment, the PFS at 1, 2, and 3 years were 39.0% (32/82), 22.1% (18/82), and 17.1% (14/82), respectively; the LC at 1, 2, and 3 years were 95.1% (78/82), 92.3% (76/82), and 92.3% (76/82), respectively; and the OS at 1, 2, and 3 years were 68.3% (56/82), 48.8% (40/82) and 31.7% (26/82), respectively. Nine patients suffered from radiation-induced liver disease (RILD), and there were no deaths due to RILD. Cox regression analysis showed that alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was an independent risk factor for OS ( HR =2.304, 95% CI 1.118-4.747; P< 0.05). Conclusion: Cyberknife treatment for patients with primary large hepatocellular cancer over 70 years old has higher LC and OS, better curative effect, and less treatment-related adverse reactions.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are recently identified as gene regulators in mammals and play important roles in carcinogenesis of cancer. For example, circRNA&#95;PTN has been recognized as a biomarker of human cancer and is overexpressed in glioma. The molecular function of circRNA&#95;PTN and its downstream targets in glioma, however, remains elusive., Methods: Quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis was used to measure the expression of circular RNA pleiotrophin (circ&#95;PTN) and miR-122. 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide, propidium iodide and Annexin-V/propidium iodide assay were performed to determine cell proliferation and apoptosis of glioma cells. Circular RNA Interactome and TargetScan were used to predict the potential microRNA targeting of circ&#95;PTN and the potential targets of miR-122, respectively. Luciferase activity assay was used to validate these interactions. Downstream molecular mechanisms, including SRY-box transcription factor 6 (SOX6), extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK), Cyclin D1, B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) and BCL2 associated X, apoptosis regulator (BAX), were determined by western blot., Results: Circ&#95;PTN was overexpressed in glioma cells, and its knockdown induced cell proliferation inhibition, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in glioma cells. The target microRNA of circ&#95;PTN was predicted to be miR-122, the expression of which was negatively correlated with circ&#95;PTN in glioma cells. Moreover, SOX6 was predicted as a potential target of miR-122, and miR-122 overexpression decreased SOX6 expression. MiR-122 inhibitor reversed the tumor-suppressing effects of circ&#95;PTN knockdown, while overexpression of SOX6 impaired the miR-122 overexpression-induced cell growth inhibition and apoptosis. In addition, mitogen activated kinase-like protein (MAPK)/ERK pathway was involved in circ&#95;PTN/miR-122/SOX6 axis., Conclusions: Circ&#95;PTN acted as a sponge of miR-122 and upregulated miR-122 target SOX6, thus promoting carcinogenesis of glioma cells.

An aliphatic polyester has been prepared from ethylene oxide and maleic anhydride that undergoes reversible transformation between amorphous (T g =18 °C) and crystalline (T m =124 °C) states through cis-trans isomerization of the C=C bonds in the polymer backbone without any change in either the molecular weight or dispersity of the polymer. A similar transformation was also observed in chiral unsaturated polyesters formed from enantiopure terminal epoxides, such as epichlorohydrin, phenyl glycidyl ether, and (2,3-epoxypropyl)benzene. These unsaturated polyesters with 100 % E-configuration in the crystalline state were prepared by quantitative isomerization of their Z-configuration analogues in the presence of a catalytic amount of diethylamine, while in the presence of benzophenone, irradiation with 365 nm UV light resulted in the transformation of about 30 % trans-alkene to cis-maleate form, thereby affording amorphous polyesters., (© 2019 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We report a comprehensive understanding of the stereoselective interaction between two opposite enantiomeric polyesters prepared from the regioselective copolymerization of chiral terminal epoxides and cyclic anhydrides. For many of the resultant polyesters, the interactions between polymer chains of opposite chirality are stronger than those of polymer chains with the same chirality, resulting in the formation of a stereocomplex with an enhanced melting point ( T m ) and crystallinity. The backbone, tacticity, steric hindrance of the pendant group, and molecular weight of the polyesters have significant effects on stereocomplex formation. Bulky substituent groups favor stereocomplexation, resulting in a greater rise in T m in comparison to the component enantiomeric polymers. The stereocomplex assembly of discrete ( R )- and ( S )-poly(phenyl glycidyl ether- alt -phthalic anhydride)s oligomers revealed that the minimum degree of polymerization required for stereocomplex formation is five. Raman spectroscopy and solid-state NMR studies indicate that stereocomplex formation significantly restricts the local mobilities of C═O and C-H groups along the backbone of chains. The reduced mobility results in the enhanced spin-lattice relaxation time and both 1 H and 13 C downfield shifts due to the strong intermolecular interactions between R - and S -chains.

Herein we report an efficient strategy for preparing isotactic polyesters and chiral epoxides via enantioselective resolution copolymerization of racemic terminal epoxides with anhydrides, mediated by enantiopure bimetallic complexes in conjunction with a nucleophilic cocatalyst. The chirality of both the axial linker and the diamine backbones of the ligand are responsible for the chiral induction of this kinetic resolution copolymerization process. The catalyst systems exhibit exceptional levels of enantioselectivity with a kinetic resolution coefficient exceeding 300 for various racemic epoxides, affording highly isotactic copolymers (selectivity factors of more than 300) with a completely alternating structure and low polydispersity index. Most of the produced isotactic polyesters are typical semicrystalline materials with melting temperatures in the range from 77 to 160 °C.

Periodontal remodeling and alveolar bone resorption and formation play essential roles during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). In the process, human periodontal ligament cells (HPDLCs) sense and respond to orthodontic forces, contributing to the alveolar bone formation. However, the underlying mechanism in this process is not fully elucidated. In the present study, cyclic stress stimulus was applied on HPDLCs to mimic the orthodontic forces during OTM. Our results demonstrated that cyclic stretch promoted the osteogenic differentiation of HPDLCs. Moreover, our data suggested that yes-associated protein (YAP), the Hippo pathway effector, which also involved in mechanical signaling transduction, was activated as we found that the nuclear translocation of YAP was significantly increased in the cyclic stress treated HPDLCs. The mRNA expression of CTGF and CYR61, the target genes of YAP, was also remarkably increased. Furthermore, knockdown of YAP suppressed the cyclic stretch induced osteogenesis in HPDLCs, while overexpression of YAP in HPDLCs enhanced osteogenesis. We also noticed that YAP activities could be suppressed by the ROCK and nonmuscle myosin II inhibitors, Y-27632 and Blebbistatin. The inhibitors also significantly inhibited the cyclic stretch induced osteogenesis in HPDLCs. Finally, in the murine OTM model, our results revealed that YAP was upregulated and nuclearly translocated in the PDLCs at the tension side. In summary, our present study demonstrated that cytoskeleton remodeling induced activation of YAP signaling pathway was crucial for the cyclic stretch-induced osteogenesis of HPDLCs, which might play important roles during OTM.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of human papillomavirus (HPV) L1 capsid protein detection in cervical exfoliated cells as a proper triage for women with high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) genotypes other than HPV 16/18., Study Design: From January 2013 to June 2015, a total of 513 women aged 30-65 years infected with non-16/18 hrHPV were enrolled into the study. Primary HPV testing, HPV 16/18 genotyping and Papanicolaou (Pap) test were performed in all eligible women. HPV L1 capsid protein was detected by immunocytochemistry in cervical exfoliated cells. All hrHPV positive women underwent colposcopy and further biopsy if indicated. Relationships between HPV L1 capsid protein expression and histologic diagnosis, as well as cytology were analyzed., Results: The positive expression rate of HPV L1 capsid protein in CIN2+ group was significantly lower than that in CIN1 or better group (16.3% vs. 66.7%, P=0.000). Compared with the Pap test, HPV L1 detection achieved higher sensitivity (83.7% vs. 51.2%, P=0.000), higher negative predictive value (NPV) (95.3% vs. 88.6%, P=0.002), and significant lower specificity (66.7% vs.76.1%, P=0.002) while identifying CIN2+. Compared with the Pap test, HPV L1 detection achieved higher sensitivity (89.7% vs. 51.7%, P=0.008), higher NPV (99.0% vs. 96.2%, P=0.043), and significant lower specificity (61.2% vs.73.8%, P=0.000) while identifying CIN3+., Conclusion: Because of its higher sensitivity and NPV than that of Pap test, HPV L1 capsid protein detection in cervical exfoliated cells reduces the missed identification of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in women with hrHPV genotypes other than HPV 16/18. An iron(III) complex of tetradentate N , N '-disubstituted bis(aminophenoxide) (designated as salan, a saturated version of the corresponding salen ligand) with a sterically hindered organic base anchored on the ligand framework, can selectively mediate the conversion of carbonyl sulfide to sulfur-containing polymers by the copolymerization with epoxides. This single-site catalyst exhibits broad substrate scope, and the resultant copolymers have completely alternating structures. Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) is associated with bone remodeling mediated by orthodontic mechanical loading. Increasing studies reported that Wnt signaling played crucial roles in mechanical stimuli induced bone remodeling. However, little is known about the involvement of Wnt signaling in orthodontic force-induced bone formation during OTM. In virtue of the OTM mice model as we previously reported, where new bone formation was determined by micro-CT and immunoreactivity of osteocalcin and osterix, we explored the activation of Wnt signaling pathway during OTM. Our results proved the nuclei translocation of β-catenin, suggesting the activation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway in the periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) near the alveolar bone at the tension site (TS). Moreover, the immunoreactivity of Wnt5a, but not Wnt3a in PDLCs indicated the activation of canonical Wnt pathway might be mediated by Wnt5a, but not Wnt3a as in most cases. The co-location of Wnt5a and β-catenin that was evidenced by double labeling immunofluorescence staining further supported the hypothesis. In addition, the high expression of FZD4 and LRP5 in PDLCs at TS of periodontium suggested that the activation of Wnt signaling pathway was mediated by these receptors. The negligible expression of ROR2 also indicated that canonical but not non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway was activated by Wnt5a, since previous studies demonstrated that the activation of canonical/non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway was largely dependent on the receptors. In summary, we here reported that Wnt5a mediated activation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway might contribute to the orthodontic force induced bone remodeling.

Sorafenib is a multikinase inhibitor used as a first-line treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but it has shown modest to low response rates. The characteristic tumour hypoxia of advanced HCC maybe a major factor underlying hypoxia-mediated treatment failure. Thus, it is urgent to elucidate the mechanisms of hypoxia-mediated sorafenib resistance in HCC. In this study, we found that hypoxia induced the nuclear translocation of Yes associate-Protein (YAP) and the subsequent transactivation of target genes that promote cell survival and escape apoptosis, thereby leading to sorafenib resistance. Statins, the inhibitors of hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase, could ameliorate hypoxia-induced nuclear translocation of YAP and suppress mRNA levels of YAP target genes both in vivo and in vitro. Combined treatment of statins with sorafenib greatly rescued the loss of anti-proliferative effects of sorafenib under hypoxia and improved the inhibitory effects on HepG2 xenograft tumour growth, accompanied by enhanced apoptosis as evidenced by the increased sub-G1 population and PARP cleavage. The expression levels of YAP and its target genes were highly correlated with poor prognosis and predicted a high risk of HCC patients. These findings collectively suggest that statins utilization maybe a promising new strategy to counteract hypoxia-mediated resistance to sorafenib in HCC patients.

Gliomas are the most common type of malignant brain tumor. Studies have identified that miR‑15b is negatively correlated with cripto-1 expression in glioma cells, and these molecules serve an important role in cancer development and progression. The current study was undertaken to further examine the association between these two molecules. Fluorescent quantitative PCR confirmed that miR‑15b expression was significantly downregulated in glioma tissue while cripto‑1 expression was significantly increased. Subsequent to transfection with miR‑15b mimics, cripto‑1 expression was significantly suppressed, and dual luciferase reporter assays further demonstrated that miR‑15b regulates cripto‑1 in a targeted manner. Furthermore, miR‑15b inhibited proliferation and invasion, and promoted apoptosis of glioma cells while downregulating the expression of MMP‑2 and MMP‑9. In contrast, cripto‑1 expression had the opposite effects. Co‑transfection with miR‑15b mimics and the cripto‑1 overexpression vector overcame the inhibitory action of miR‑15b on cripto‑1. Therefore, it is suggested that miR‑15b modulates cell growth and invasion through targeted regulation of cripto‑1 expression in glioma cells. This observation may provide novel targets for the prevention and treatment of gliomas.

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Liujunzi decoction combined with Zuojin pills in treating the radioactive duodenitis and their mechanism, and compare with clinical routine acid suppressants combined with mucous membrane protective preparations to study the mechanism of their efficacy., Method: According to the study of Williams J P and characteristics of duodenitis, and by reference to the radiation enteritis modeling standard, we took the lead in establishing the mouse radioactive duodenal injury model. The model mice were randomly divided into the control group (n = 26), traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) group (n = 16) and the western medicine (oral administration with famotidine 0.5 mL + almagate suspension 0.3 mL per mouse, once a day) group (n = 16). After the standard administrating, such objective indexes as general condition, weight, changes in health score, pathology and expression of inflammatory factors were observed to evaluate the efficacy., Result: The radioactive duodenitis model of mice was successfully established with 12 Gy. Mice in the control group suffered from weight loss, anorexia, low fluid intake, loose stools, and occasionally mucous bloody stool, poor spirit, dim fur, lack of exercise and arch back. Mice in drug intervention groups were generally better than those in the pure irradiation group. The IL-6, IL-1beta, TNF-alpha mRNA expressions in spleen and mesenteric lymph node tissues in TCM and western medicine groups showed a declining trend compared with the control group. Their concentrations in peripheral blood serum also slightly changed. The TCM group revealed notable advantage in reducing inflammatory factors. The microscopic observation showed that a better mucosa repair in intervention groups than the pure irradiation group. The improved Chiu's scoring method showed a statistical significance in the difference between TCM and western medicine groups (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Liujunzi decoction combined with Zuojin pills could treat acute radiation enteritis, regulate organic immunity, and inhibit acute injury, promote local tissue repair, with the potential to resist such adverse effects as radiation intestinal fibrosis. The regulation of inflammatory factor release is one of efficacy generation mechanisms.

Anaerobic digested (AD) corn stover collected from a lab-scale reactor was used as bioadsorbent to remove the heavy metal in aqueous solution. Effects of contact time and initial heavy metal concentrations on the removal process of Cu(2+) and Cd(2+) were investigated. The maximum adsorption capacities of AD corn stover obtained from Langmuir isotherm models were 83.3 and 50.0mg/g for Cu(2+) and Cd(2+), respectively. These compounds were identified by their physical and spectral data., Result: Twelve flavonoids were isolated and identified as quercetin-7-O-beta-D-galactopyranoside(1),quercetin(2), luteolin(3), apigenin(4),5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxy flavone(5), quercetin-3-alpha-rhamnopyranoside(6), quercetin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(7), apigenin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(8), luteolin-7-O-beta-D-glucuronide methyl ester(9),4'-hydroxy baicalein-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(10),baicalein(11),rutin(12)., Conclusion: Compound 1 was isolated from the Compositae family for the first time. Compound 5 and 9 were firstly isolated from the genus Erigeron. Compound 3,4,7,8 and 11 were isolated from E. canadensis for the first time.

A new triterpenoid saponin named clematichinenoside AR(2), along with the six known compounds, was isolated and characterized from Clematis chinensis Osbeck (Ranunculaceae), a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine with anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatoid activities. The structure of the new saponin was elucidated as 3-O-beta-[(O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 6)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-O-beta-D-ribopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl)oxy]olean-12-en-21alpha-hydroxy-28-oic acid-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester (1) by spectral analysis and chemical methods. The effects of two major saponins (clematichinenosides AR and AR(2)) on the secretion of TNF-alpha in murine peritoneal macrophages induced by lipopolysaccharides were further investigated. The result indicated that a majority of triterpenoid saponins of this herb may be useful in the exploration of lead compounds for the treatment of some autoimmune diseases.
