17. MHD Mixed Convection Flow and Heat Transfer due to an Inclined Stretching/Shrinking Sheet

Abstract

This study focuses on the numerical analysis of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection flow of a viscous fluid over an inclined stretching sheet. The sheet’s temperature and stretching velocity are assumed to follow a power law distribution. To simplify the governing partial differential equations (PDEs), we apply similarity transformations, which transform them into ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We employ the bvp4c solver in Matlab for numerical computations. Specifically, when the buoyancy force is present and the parameter n is related to m as n = 2m − 1, we obtain similarity solutions. For a particular variant of the shrinking strength, non-unique solutions are found. It is evident from the temporal stability analysis that only one of them remains stable throughout time. The study investigates the effects of various parameters, such as velocity and temperature exponents, magnetic field strength, inclination angle, and buoyancy, on the flow and heat transfer properties, which are illustrated through graphical representations. Notable findings include that the local Nusselt numbers and skin friction coefficients decrease when the inclination angle of the stretching sheet increases, while they increase when the inclination angle of the shrinking sheet increases.

31. Radiative influence on axisymmetric ternary hybrid nanofluid flow with convective boundary conditions over a nonlinearly permeable stretching/shrinking disk.

Abstract

Purpose: In recent times, ternary hybrid nanofluid has garnered attention from scientist and researchers due to its improved thermal efficiency. This study aims to delve into the examination of ternary hybrid nanofluid (Al2O3–Cu–TiO2/water), particularly concerning axisymmetric flow over a nonlinearly permeable stretching/shrinking disk. In addition, the investigation of convective boundary conditions and thermal radiation effects is also considered within the context of the described flow problem. Design/methodology/approach: Mathematical formulations representing this problem are reduced into a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using similarity transformation. The MATLAB boundary value problem solver is then used to solve the obtained set of ODEs. The impact of considered physical parameters such as suction parameter, radiation parameter, nonlinear parameter, nanoparticle volumetric concentration and Biot number on the flow profiles as well as the physical quantities is illustrated in graphical form. Findings: The findings revealed the thermal flux for the nonlinearly shrinking disk is approximately 1.33%, significantly higher when compared to the linearly shrinking disk. Moreover, the existence of dual solutions attributed to the nonlinear stretching/shrinking disk is unveiled, with the first solution being identified as the stable and reliable solution through temporal stability analysis. Practical implications: Understanding ternary hybrid nanofluid behavior and flow has applications in engineering, energy systems and materials research. This study may help develop and optimize nanofluid systems like heat exchangers and cooling systems. Originality/value: The study of flow dynamics across nonlinear stretching/shrinking disk gains less attention compared to linear stretching/shrinking geometries. Many natural and industrial processes involve nonlinear changes in boundary shapes or sizes. Understanding flow dynamics over nonlinear shrinking/stretching disks is therefore essential for applications in various fields such as materials processing, biomedical engineering and environmental sciences. Hence, this study highlights the axisymmetric flow over a nonlinear stretching/shrinking disk using ternary hybrid nanofluid composed of alumina (Al2O3), copper (Cu) and titania (TiO2). Besides, this study tackles a complex problem involving multiple factors such as suction, radiation and convective boundary conditions. Abstract

Thermoelectric Bonded Materials (TEBM) weakened by an Inclined Crack Problems (ICP) subjected to remote stress was presented in this study. The problems are addressed by employing the Modified Complex Variable Function (MCVF) method, which incorporates the Continuity Conditions (CC) for the Resultant Electric Force (REF) and Displacement Electric Function (DEF) to formulate the Hypersingular Integral Equations (HSIEs) associated with these problems. By applying the curved length coordinate method, the unknown functions of Crack Opening Displacement (COD), Electric Current Density (ECD), and Energy Flux Load (EFL) are mapped onto the square root singularity function. The resulting equations are then numerically solved using appropriate quadrature formulas, with the traction along the crack utilized as the right-hand term. The obtained COD, ECD and EFL functions is then used to compute the dimensionless Stress Intensity Factors (SIFs) in order to determine the stability behavior of TEBM weakened by an ICP. The numerical results provided demonstrate the dimensionless SIFs at the crack tips. These results exhibit excellent agreement with previous studies conducted on the subject. Additionally, it is observed that the dimensionless SIFs at the crack tips are influenced by factors such as the ratio of Elastic Constants (ECR), the geometry of the cracks, and the coefficients associated with the Electric Current Density (ECD).

Abstract

In this study, a curvilinear crack phenomenon laying in the upper part of thermoelectric bonded materials subject to mechanical loadings is considered. A curvilinear crack problem in thermoelectric bonded materials subjected to shear stress is formulated. The modified complex potential (MCP) function method is used to formulate this crack phenomenon into the hypersingular integral equations (HSIEs) with the help of the continuity conditions of the resultant electric force and displacement electric function. The normal and tangential traction along the crack segment serves as the right-hand side of the integral equation. The HSIEs are solved numerically for the unknown crack opening displacement (COD) function, electric current density, and energy flux load using the appropriate quadrature formulas. The numerical solution presented the behavior of the dimensionless stress intensity factors (SIFs) at the crack tips which depend on the elastic constant’s ratio, the position of the crack, the electric conductivity, and the thermal expansion coefficients.
