Killing spinor identities relate components of equations of motion to each other for supersymmetric backgrounds. The only input required is the field content and the supersymmetry transformations of the fields, as long as an on-shell supersymmetrization of the action without additional fields exists. If we consider off-shell supersymmetry it is clear that the same relations will occur between components of the equations of motion independently of the specific action considered, in particular the Killing spinor identities can be derived for arbitrary, including higher derivative, supergravities, with a specified matter content. We give the Killing spinor identities for five-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ ungauged supergravities coupled to Abelian vector multiplets, and then using spinorial geometry techniques so that we have explicit representatives for the spinors, we discuss the particular case of the time-like class of solutions to theories with perturbative corrections at the four derivative level. We show that a class of solutions of minimal supergravity in five dimensions is given by lifts of three-dimensional Einstein–Weyl structures of hyper-CR type. We characterise this class as most general near-horizon limits of supersymmetric solutions to the five-dimensional theory. In particular we deduce that a compact spatial section of a horizon can only be a Berger sphere, a product metric on $\textit{S}$$^\textit{1}$ X $\textit{S}$$^\textit{2}$ or a flat three-torus. We then consider the problem of reconstructing all supersymmetric solutions from a given near-horizon geometry. By exploiting the ellipticity of the linearised field equations we demonstrate that the moduli space of transverse infinitesimal deformations of a near-horizon geometry is finite-dimensional.

We prove the existence of 3/4-BPS preons in four- and five-dimensional gauged supergravities by explicitly constructing them as smooth quotients of the AdS_4 and AdS_5 maximally supersymmetric backgrounds, respectively. This result illustrates how the spacetime topology resurrects a fraction of supersymmetry previously ruled out by the local analysis of the Killing spinor equations., Comment: 10 pages (a minor imprecision has been corrected)

We dimensionally reduce the bosonic sector of 10D Euclidean type IIA supergravity over a Calabi-Yau three-fold. The resulting theory describes the bosonic sector of 4D, N = 2 Euclidean supergravity coupled to vector- and hyper-multiplets. We show that the scalar target manifold of the vector-multiplets is projective special para-Kahler, and is therefore of split signature, whereas the target manifold of the hyper-multiplets is (positive-definite) quaternionic Kahler., 24 pages, 2 figures. We prove that the near-horizon geometries of minimal gauged five-dimensional supergravity preserve at least half of the supersymmetry. If the near-horizon geometries preserve a larger fraction, then they are locally isometric to $AdS_5$. Our proof is based on Lichnerowicz type theorems for two horizon Dirac operators constructed from the supercovariant connection restricted to the horizon sections, and on an application of the index theorem. We consider general black holes in D=5, N=2 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets, and discuss the issue of microstate counting from various viewpoints. The statistical entropy is computed for the near-extremal case using the central charge of the $AdS_2$ factor appearing in the near-horizon geometry. Furthermore, we explicitly construct the duality transformation connecting electrically charged black holes to magnetically charged black strings, under which the $AdS_2 \times S^3$ near horizon geometry becomes $AdS_3 \times S^2$. For $AdS_3$ the counting of microstates correctly reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, thus resolving the discrepancy previously found for $AdS_2$.

In this paper we discuss compactifications of type II superstrings where the moduli of the internal Calabi-Yau space vary over four-dimensional space time. The corresponding solutions of four-dimensional N=2 supergravity are given by charged, extremal BPS black hole configurations with non-constant scalar field values. In particular we investigate the behaviour of our solutions near those points in the Calabi-Yau moduli space where some internal cycles collapse and topology change (flop transitions, conifold transitions) can take place. The singular loci in the internal space are related to special points in the uncompactified space. The phase transition can happen either at spatial infinity (for positive charges) or on spheres (with at least one negative charge). We discuss general bosonic stationary configurations of N = 2, D = 4 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets. The requirement of unbroken supersymmetries imposes constraints on the holomorphic symplectic section of the underlying special Kahler manifold. The corresponding solutions of the field equations are completely determined by a set of harmonic functions. As examples we discuss rotating black holes, Taub-NUT and Eguchi-Hanson-like instantons for the STU model. In addition, we discuss, in the static limit, world-sheet instanton corrections to the STU black hole solution, in the neighborhood of a vanishing 4-cycle of the Calabi-Yau manifold. Our procedure is quite general and includes all known black hole solutions that can be embedded into N = 2 supergravity.

Recently Olesen has shown the existence of dual string solutions to the equations of ideal Magnetohydrodynamics that describe the long wavelength properties of electrically charged plasmas. Here, we extend these solutions to include the case of plasmas consisting of point like dyons, which carry both electric and magnetic charge. Such strings are dyonic in that they consist of both magnetic and electric flux. Euclidean special geometry has recently been investigated in the context of Euclidean supersymmetric theories with vector multiplets. In the rigid case, the scalar manifold is described by affine special para-Kahler geometry while the target geometries of Euclidean vector multiplets coupled to supergravity are given by projective special para-Kahler manifolds. In this letter, we derive the Killing spinor equations of Euclidean N=2 supergravity theories coupled to vector multiplets. We classify all pseudo-supersymmetric near horizon geometries of extremal black holes in five dimensional de-Sitter supergravity coupled to vector multiplets. We find that there are three types of solution. The first type corresponds to the near-horizon geometry of extremal de Sitter BMPV black holes, and the spatial cross-section of the horizon is topologically S^3. The other two solutions cannot be embedded into the minimal de-Sitter supergravity theory, and correspond to near-horizon geometries for which the spatial cross-sections of the horizon are T^3 or S^1 * S^2., 20 pages, latex. We construct new supersymmetric solutions to the Euclidean Einstein-Maxwell theory with a non-vanishing cosmological constant, and for which the Maxwell field strength is neither self-dual or anti-self-dual. We find that there are three classes of solutions, depending on the sign of the Maxwell field strength and cosmological constant terms in the Einstein equations which arise from the integrability conditions of the Killing spinor equation. The first class is a Euclidean version of a Lorentzian supersymmetric solution found in arXiv:0804.0009, hep-th/0406238 . The second class is constructed from a three dimensional base space which admits a hyper-CR Einstein-Weyl structure. Solutions of five-dimensional De Sitter supergravity admitting Killing spinors are considered, using spinorial geometry techniques. It is shown that the "null" solutions are defined in terms of a one parameter family of 3-dimensional constrained Einstein-Weyl spaces called Gauduchon-Tod structures. They admit a geodesic, expansion-free, twist-free and shear-free null vector field and therefore are a particular type of Kundt geometry. When the Gauduchon-Tod structure reduces to the 3-sphere, the null vector becomes recurrent, and therefore the holonomy is contained in Sim(3), the maximal proper subgroup of the Lorentz group SO(4,1). For these geometries, all scalar invariants built from the curvature are constant. We study (2, 0) induced two-dimensional supergravity in the superchiral gauge and derive the corresponding OSp(2|2) current algebra. The renormalization of the central charge of the current algebra and the physical primary state conditions of the fields are derived using the residual gauge transformations and BRST quantization.

Spinorial geometry techniques have recently been used to classify all half supersymmetric solutions in gauged five dimensional supergravity with vector multiplets. In this paper we consider solutions for which at least one of the Killing spinors generates a timelike Killing vector. Starting from the formulation of induced (1, 0) supergravity in 1 + 1 dimensions we consider the effects of perturbing the theory with relevant operators that preserve rotational, translational and supersymmetry whilst breaking scale invariance. In particular we calculate the correlation functions a(x)Jb(y)> of graded SL (2R) currents Ja(x) in the presence of such perturbations from which we define central charge functions K. These functions are shown to be monotonic and are the analogue of Zamolodchikovs C-function as defined in usual conformal field theories.

We apply the method of holographic renormalization to computing black hole masses in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces. In particular, we demonstrate that the Hamilton-Jacobi approach to obtaining the boundary action yields a set of counterterms sufficient to render the masses finite for four, five, six and seven-dimensional R-charged black holes in gauged supergravities. We present new supersymmetric domain wall and string solutions of five-dimensional N = 2 gauged supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of vector multiplets. Using the techniques of very special geometry allows to obtain the most general domain wall preserving half of the supersymmetries. This solution, which describes a renormalization group flow in the dual field theory, is given in terms of Weierstrass elliptic functions. The magnetically charged, one quarter supersymmetric string solutions are shown to be closely related to Liouville theory. We deform two-dimensional topological gravity by making use of its gauge theory formulation. The obtained noncommutative gravity model is shown to be invariant under a class of transformations that reduce to standard diffeomorphisms once the noncommutativity parameter is set to zero. Some solutions of the deformed model, like fuzzy AdS_2, are obtained. A supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum brane-world demands that not merely the graviton but the entire supergravity multiplet be trapped on the brane. To demonstrate this, we present a complete ansatz for the reduction of (D=5,N=4) gauged supergravity to (D=4,N=2) ungauged supergravity in the Randall-Sundrum geometry. We verify that it is consistent to lowest order in fermion terms. In particular, we show how the graviphotons avoid the `no photons on the brane' result because they do not originate from Maxwell's equations in D=5 but rather from odd-dimensional self-duality equations. We present supersymmetric solutions for the theory of gauged supergravity in five dimensions obtained by gauging the shift symmetry of the axion of the universal hypermultiplet. This gauged theory can also be obtained by dimensionally reducing M-theory on a Calabi-Yau threefold with background flux. The solution found preserves half of the N=2 supersymmetry, carries electric fields and has nontrivial scalar field representing the CY-volume. One of the important consequences of the no-force condition for BPS states is the existence of stable static multi-center solutions, at least in ungauged supergravities. This observation has been at the heart of many developments in brane physics, including the construction of intersecting branes and reduced symmetry D-brane configurations corresponding to the Coulomb branch of the gauge theory. However the search for multi-center solutions to gauged supergravities has proven rather elusive. Because of the background curvature, it appears such solutions cannot be static. Nevertheless even allowing for time dependence, general multi-center solutions to gauged supergravity have yet to be constructed. In this letter we investigate the construction of such solutions for the case of D=5, N=2 gauged supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of vector multiplets. Formally, we find a family of time dependent multi-center black hole solutions which are easily generalized to the case of AdS supergravities in general dimensions. While these are not true solutions, as they have a complex metric and gauge potential, they may be related to a Wick rotated theory or to a theory where the coupling is taken to be imaginary. The geometric structure of the null solutions of de Sitter D=5 gauged supergravity coupled to vector multiplets is investigated. These solutions are Kundt metrics, constructed from a one-parameter family of three dimensional Gauduchon-Tod base spaces. We give examples, including the near horizon geometries previously found in arxiv:hep-th/10122120. In addition, two special cases are considered in detail. In the first, we consider solutions for which the Gauduchon-Tod base space is the Berger sphere. We study non-supersymmetric solutions of five dimensional N=2 supergravity theories coupled to an arbitrary number of abelian vector multiplets. The solutions constructed can be considered as deformations of known supersymmetric black hole and string solutions.
