INTRODUCTION: Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR amyloidosis) is primarily associated with a cardiac or neurologic phenotype, but a mixed phenotype is increasingly described. METHODS: This study describes the mixed phenotype cohort in the Transthyretin Amyloidosis Outcomes Survey (THAOS). THAOS is an ongoing, longitudinal, observational survey of patients with ATTR amyloidosis, including both hereditary (ATTRv) and wild-type disease, and asymptomatic carriers of pathogenic transthyretin variants. Baseline characteristics of patients with a mixed phenotype (at enrollment or reclassified during follow-up) are described (data cutoff: January 4, 2022). RESULTS: Approximately one-third of symptomatic patients (n = 1185/3542; 33.5%) were classified at enrollment or follow-up as mixed phenotype (median age, 66.5 years). Of those, 344 (29.0%) were reclassified to mixed phenotype within a median 1-2 years of follow-up. Most patients with mixed phenotype had ATTRv amyloidosis (75.7%). The most frequent genotypes were V30M (38.9%) and wild type (24.3%). CONCLUSIONS: These THAOS data represent the largest analysis of a real-world mixed phenotype ATTR amyloidosis population to date and suggest that a mixed phenotype may be more prevalent than previously thought. Patients may also migrate from a primarily neurologic or cardiologic presentation to a mixed phenotype over time. These data reinforce the need for multidisciplinary evaluation at initial assessment and follow-up of all patients with ATTR amyloidosis. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT00628745.

This paper reports the key findings from two student surveys undertaken at our institution in the academic years 2020-21 and 2021-22. The research was based on the Bretag et al. (2018) student survey undertaken in various Australian universities. After discussions with both Bretag and Harper, we adapted the questions to our context -- a Russell Group university in the UK -- but included similar questions to enable a comparison, and to find out if there were common themes. The main aim of the surveys was to understand our students' awareness of what is meant by the term 'academic integrity', defined as 'being honest in your work, acknowledging the work of others and giving credit where you have used other people's ideas/data' https://secretariat.leeds.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/109/2022/12/academic_integrity.pdf. The responses provided an important insight into student attitudes to academic integrity, their understanding of academic malpractice, and their awareness of the penalties if found to have plagiarised, and if found guilty of contract cheating (Medway et al., 2018; Morris, 2018; Harper et al., 2019). The surveys also identified what students would find useful in developing their understanding of academic integrity, and this underlines the importance of consulting our students. Key findings include gaps in the information provided to students, the need for regular and timely reminders of the principles of academic integrity, and the need for guidance to be written using student-friendly language. The findings informed our recommendations in terms of teaching and learning at School/Faculty level and to policy at University level, to further support student success. In the context of the key issues raised by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) Academic Integrity Charter (2020), we discuss examples of best practice currently undertaken at the University of Leeds, on-going discussions regarding developments, and our recommendations for further embedding a culture of academic integrity. We argue that all students should have the same baseline experience and therefore promoting this ethos is the responsibility of all staff who teach and support students.

Abstract Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are characterized by their exceptional susceptibility and relaxivity at ultra-low field (ULF) regimes, make them a promising contrast agent (CA) for ULF MRI. Despite their distinct advantages, the translation of these properties into clinically valuable image contrast in ULF MRI remains underexplored. In this study, we investigate the use of SPIONs to generate in vivo MRI contrast at 6.5 mT within the organs and vascular system of rodents. This investigation includes comprehensive SPION characterization and phantom imaging experiments to validate the utility of SPIONs to produce positive image contrast and to facilitate phase-sensitive imaging at ULF. Optimized balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) and spoiled gradient echo (SPGR) MRI sequences are used to generate in vivo contrast by leveraging the distinctive properties of SPIONs at ULF. Imaging studies in rodents reveal positive organ contrast attainable in magnitude images, and MRI phase maps can be used to visualize the vascular system. This work demonstrates the effectiveness of SPIONs in enhancing preclinical organ and vascular imaging at ULF; it bridges the gap between the study of the distinctive physical properties of SPIONs and the demonstration of in vivo image contrast.

The experience of the many autistic children who attend inclusive early childhood education settings is largely shaped by the knowledge and attitudes of the educators who support them. Autistic children from under-represented ethnic groups, such as autistic Maori, are likely to face additional challenges and educators need to consider strategies to support their cultural development. We conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 12 educators with recent experience supporting tamariki takiwatanga Maori (autistic Maori children) in inclusive early childhood settings. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis resulting in three themes and seven subthemes. Overall, participants' understandings of autism aligned with the neurodiversity perspective, and there were similarities between neurodiversity and Maori perspectives. Participants wanted more training and resources drawn from a Maori worldview and available in te reo Maori (the Maori language). These findings have important implications for practice and future research.

The participation of students with significant cognitive disabilities in accountability assessments aligned with general education standards is a heavily debated topic in the field of special education. Attempts to understand the impact of these assessments have generally been limited to correlational methods. We employed a difference-in-differences approach using select waves of the National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 dataset to estimate the impact of alternate assessment policies from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 on the employment outcomes of individuals with significant cognitive disabilities. Our hypothesis was that these policies would produce a detrimental effect. Analyses suggested that alternate assessment policies resulted in descriptively positive employment outcomes, yet estimates were highly imprecise, which yields a complicated picture requiring more research.

There is little research regarding autistic adult, parent and professional perspectives on support goals for young autistic children. A total of 87 autistic adults, 159 parents of autistic children, and 80 clinical professionals living in New Zealand and Australia completed a survey about the appropriateness and importance of common support goals for young autistic children. Goals related to the adult supporting the child, the reduction and replacement of harmful behaviours, and improving child quality of life were the highest priority across participant groups, while goals related to child autism characteristics, play and academic skills were the lowest priority. Compared to parents and/or professionals, autistic adults gave lower priority ratings for play skills, autism characteristics and participation goals and were more likely to rate these goal domains as inappropriate. More research is needed to understand the underlying reasons for these similarities and differences.

Parents are often expected to be the primary implementers of intervention for their young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The provision of a few hours a week of intervention by a trained therapist, in addition to parent-implemented intervention, could increase child outcomes compared to parent-implemented intervention in isolation. This study evaluated the effects of a 12-week parent coaching program based on the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) followed by 12-weeks of therapist-delivered ESDM intervention for four children with ASD. The effects of these interventions on child participation, functional utterances, and imitation were evaluated using a multiple probe across participants design. Children's participation improved during both interventions. Children generally showed greater improvements in imitation with the therapist than with their parents but showed minimal improvements in functional utterances. This suggests there may be some benefit to low-intensity therapy in addition to parent coaching, but more research is needed.

Abstract Background The aim of this review was to investigate the impact of short message service (SMS)-based interventions on childhood and adolescent vaccine coverage and timeliness. Methods A pre-defined search strategy was used to identify all relevant publications up until July 2022 from electronic databases. Reports of randomised trials written in English and involving children and adolescents less than 18 years old were included. The review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Results Thirty randomised trials were identified. Most trials were conducted in high-income countries. There was marked heterogeneity between studies. SMS-based interventions were associated with small to moderate improvements in vaccine coverage and timeliness compared to no SMS reminder. Reminders with embedded education or which were combined with monetary incentives performed better than simple reminders in some settings. Conclusion Some SMS-based interventions appear effective for improving child vaccine coverage and timeliness in some settings. Future studies should focus on identifying which features of SMS-based strategies, including the message content and timing, are determinants of effectiveness.

Early identification and intervention are recognised as important elements of the clinical pathway for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Children with ASD and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may be diagnosed at a different age than children who only have one of these diagnoses. This systematic review aimed to identify the age at which children were diagnosed with both ASD and ADHD. Of the 9552 articles screened, 12 were included in the review. The findings suggest that ASD is typically diagnosed later when ADHD is present, and ADHD is typically diagnosed earlier when ASD is present. Further research is needed to understand the factors impacting a delayed ASD diagnosis and an earlier ADHD diagnosis when the two conditions co-occur.

Impaired bone healing is a significant complication observed in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), leading to prolonged recovery, increased risk of complications, impaired quality of life, and increased risk of patient morbidity. Oxidative stress, resulting from an imbalance between the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cellular/tissue antioxidant defence mechanisms, has been identified as a critical contributor to the pathogenesis of impaired bone healing in T2DM. Antioxidants have shown promise in mitigating oxidative stress and promoting bone repair, particularly non-enzymic antioxidant entities. This comprehensive narrative review aims to explore the underlying mechanisms and intricate relationship between oxidative stress, impaired bone healing and T2DM, with a specific focus on the current preclinical and clinical evidence advocating the potential of antioxidant therapeutic interventions in improving bone healing outcomes in individuals with T2DM. From the ever-emerging evidence available, it is apparent that exogenously supplemented antioxidants, especially non-enzymic antioxidants, can ameliorate the detrimental effects of oxidative stress, inflammation, and impaired cellular function on bone healing processes during uncontrolled hyperglycaemia; and therefore, hold considerable promise as novel efficacious therapeutic entities. However, despite such conclusions, several important gaps in our knowledge remain to be addressed, including studies involving more sophisticated enzymic antioxidant-based delivery systems, further mechanistic studies into how these antioxidants exert their desirable reparative effects; and more extensive clinical trial studies into the optimisation of antioxidant therapy dosing, frequency, duration and their subsequent biodistribution and bioavailability. By enhancing our understanding of such crucial issues, we can fully exploit the oxidative stress-neutralising properties of these antioxidants to develop effective antioxidant interventions to mitigate impaired bone healing and reduce the associated complications in such T2DM patient populations.

Summary: Background: Aotearoa New Zealand does not provide publicly-funded intensive autism support. While parent-mediated supports are promising, children and families may also benefit from direct clinician support. We tested the efficacy of a low-intensity programme involving parent- and clinician-delivered support for autistic children. Methods: This single-blind, two-arm randomised controlled trial assessed outcomes of a six-month low-intensity parent- and clinician-delivered support (2–3 h per week) based on the Early Start Denver Model compared to a control group who received monthly support calls and assistance with referrals. Children aged 1–4.5 years who were autistic or showing signs of autism and their parents were randomised to the low-intensity or control group by a blinded statistician using the Urn minimisation method. Assessments were conducted at baseline and immediately following the support period (24-weeks post-baseline). The primary outcome was child engagement during an interaction with their parent. The trial was pre-registered with ANZCTR: U1111-1260-2529. Findings: From March 2021 to May 2023, 56 families were randomised to either the low-intensity or control group. Following drop-outs, 21 families in the low-intensity group and 24 in the control group were included in analysis. Abstract Background Climate change poses a significant threat to agricultural production worldwide, with developing countries being particularly vulnerable to its negative impacts. Agriculture, which is a crucial factor in ensuring food security and livelihoods, is particularly vulnerable to changes in climate patterns, such as increased temperatures, drought, and extreme weather events. One approach to addressing these challenges is by promoting the adoption of climate‐smart agriculture (CSA) practices among farmers. CSA combines traditional agricultural practices with innovative techniques and technologies to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. infrastructure. By adopting CSA practices, farmers can enhance their resilience to climate variability and improve their productivity. Objectives This review examines the effectiveness of interventions promoting CSA to enhance farmers' knowledge of the benefits of CSA approaches, subsequent adoption of CSA, and disadoption of harmful agricultural practices in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Search Methods We searched 39 academic and online databases, websites, and repositories and screened over 19,000 experimental and quasi‐experimental publications to identify studies promoting CSA practices to women farmers. We conducted a citation tracking process on included studies and contacted experts to ensure a thorough search. Selection Criteria The review focused on studies that included interventions promoting climate‐smart agricultural approaches. Using EPPI Reviewer 4, two review authors independently screened the impact evaluation using a standardized screening tool. Data Collection and Analysis Information about participant characteristics, intervention characteristics, control conditions, research design, sample size, bias risk, outcomes, and results were gathered. Data collection and quantitative analysis were conducted using standard Campbell Collaboration methods. Main Results Eight impact evaluations were found (two randomized controlled trials) evaluating the effects of CSA practices on farmer's knowledge gains of the benefits of CSA practices and subsequent adoption. Knowledge dissemination approaches such as Farmer Field Schools and weather and climate information services were found to positively impact farmers' knowledge and adoption of specific CSA practices. However, the evidence supporting this claim is uncertain as a high risk of bias was assessed for five of the eight included studies. However, we found no effects on the disadoption of harmful practices such as pesticide overuse. Authors' Conclusions The evidence base for studies promoting climate‐smart agricultural approaches (CSA) to farmers in LMICs is small, and there is a lack of studies reporting sex‐disaggregated data and studies explicitly targeting women farmers. The review suggests that knowledge dissemination techniques are significantly effective in improving CSA knowledge and adoption, including integrated pest management techniques and their benefits, adoption of climate‐resilient rice seed varieties (STRVs), and use of botanical pesticides by farmers. More and better confidence studies are needed to inform policy and programming, including those that look at a wider range of interventions, including changing norms, values, and institutional arrangements.

Abstract Background Value chain interventions have become widespread throughout the international development sector over the last 20 years, and there is a need to evaluate their effectiveness in improving women's welfare across multiple dimensions. Agricultural value chains are influenced by socio‐cultural norms and gender dynamics that have an impact on the distribution of resources, benefits, and access to opportunities. While women play a critical role in agriculture, they are generally confined to the least‐valued parts of the value chain with the lowest economic returns, depending on the local, social and institutional contexts. Objectives The review assesses the effectiveness of approaches, strategies and interventions focused on women's engagement in agricultural value chains that lead to women's economic empowerment in low‐ and middle‐income countries. It explores the contextual barriers and facilitators that determine women's participation in value chains and ultimately impact their effectiveness. Selection Criteria The review includes value chain interventions evaluating the economic empowerment outcomes. The review includes effectiveness studies (experimental and non‐experimental studies with a comparison group) and process evaluations. Data Collection and Analysis Two review authors independently assessed studies for inclusion, extracted data, critically appraised the studies, and synthesised findings. Results We found that value chain interventions are successful in improving the economic conditions of their intended beneficiaries. The interventions were found to improve women's economic outcomes such as income, assets holdings, productivity, and savings, but these effects were small in size and limited by low confidence in methodological quality. The meta‐analysis suggests that this occurs more via the acquisition of skills and improved inputs, rather than through improvement in access to profitable markets. The qualitative evidence on interventions points to the persistence of cultural barriers and other constraints. Those interventions implemented in Sub‐Saharan Africa and South Asia are consistently more successful for all outcomes considered, although there are few studies conducted in other areas of the world. Conclusions The review concludes that value chain interventions empower women, but perhaps to a lesser extent than expected. Economic empowerment does not immediately translate into empowerment within families and communities. Interventions should either moderate their expectations of empowerment goals, or they should be implemented in a way that ensures higher rates of participation among women and the acquisition of greater decision‐making power.

Despite decades of intense research, our understanding of the correlates of protection against Salmonella Typhi (S. Typhi) infection and disease remains incomplete. T follicular helper cells (TFH), an important link between cellular and humoral immunity, play an important role in the development and production of high affinity antibodies. While traditional TFH cells reside in germinal centers, circulating TFH (cTFH) (a memory subset of TFH) are present in blood. We used specimens from a typhoid controlled human infection model whereby participants were immunized with Ty21a live attenuated S. Typhi vaccine and then challenged with virulent S. Typhi. Some participants developed typhoid disease (TD) and some did not (NoTD), which allowed us to assess the association of cTFH subsets in the development and prevention of typhoid disease. Of note, the frequencies of cTFH were higher in NoTD than in TD participants, particularly 7 days after challenge. Furthermore, the frequencies of cTFH2 and cTFH17, but not cTFH1 subsets were higher in NoTD than TD participants. However, we observed that ex-vivo expression of activation and homing markers were higher in TD than in NoTD participants, particularly after challenge. Moreover, cTFH subsets produced higher levels of S. Typhi-specific responses (cytokines/chemokines) in both the immunization and challenge phases. Interestingly, unsupervised analysis revealed unique clusters with distinct signatures for each cTFH subset that may play a role in either the development or prevention of typhoid disease. Importantly, we observed associations between frequencies of defined cTFH subsets and anti-S. Typhi antibodies. Taken together, our results suggest that circulating TFH2 and TFH17 subsets might play an important role in the development or prevention of typhoid disease. The contribution of these clusters was found to be distinct in the immunization and/or challenge phases. These results have important implications for vaccines aimed at inducing long-lived protective T cell and antibody responses.

Aberrant attentional salience has been implicated in the cannabis-psychosis association. Here, history and frequency of cannabis use were examined against changes in overshadowing (OS), a cue competition paradigm that involves salience processing. Additionally, we examined the association between OS and alternative measures of aberrant salience, as well as schizotypy, in a non-clinical adult sample.280 participants completed an online geometry learning-based OS task, while a subset (N = 149) also completed the Salience Attribution Task (SAT) measure of aberrant salience. All completed the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ), Aberrant Salience Inventory (ASI), and the modified Cannabis Experience Questionnaire (CEQmv). Differences across OS and SAT performance stages and between cannabis use groups were assessed using mixed ANOVAs. Multiple regression and correlational analyses assessed the relationships between OS and SAT task metrics and SPQ and ASI subscale scores.Current cannabis users had significantly lower OS scores during the testing phase relative to those who do not use cannabis, at medium effect sizes. Schizotypy or ASI scores did not mediate this relationship. In the SAT, current cannabis users presented significantly higher implicit aberrant salience relative to non-users. Scores in the first training phase of the OS task significantly predicted higher explicit aberrant and adaptive salience scores in the SAT.These data indicate an association between regular cannabis use and abnormalities in cue competition effects in a healthy adult sample. Comparisons of OS and SAT cast new light on putative overlapping mechanisms underlying performance across different measures of salience.

We estimate the longitudinal effects of charter schools authorized by different authorizing bodies on student achievement by using student-level data from Indiana. The results of our analysis point to substantial variation, especially between the state's two largest authorizers: Ball State University and the Indianapolis Mayor's Office. Some of the variation is driven by the types of operators these bodies authorize to run charter schools. However, operator effects are not consistent across authorizers, suggesting a more complex story about how authorization affects student achievement. These results point to the ways that public and private interests in charter schools may complicate the work of authorizers and suggest a need for policymakers to offer more guidance in how authorizers carry out their various accountability mandates.

This study examined whether parent-reported atypical development in their child's first year was associated with age of diagnosis and age when parents first needed to consult a specialist about their child's development. It involved 423 children who participated in the Australian Autism Biobank. Most parents retrospectively identified [greater or equal to] 1 domain of atypical child development. Atypical development in most domains was associated with an earlier age when parents felt specialist consultation was needed. Atypical development in the "gaze abnormalities", "lack of response to social stimuli", and "no social communication" subdomains within the social domain was associated with an earlier age of diagnosis, as was atypical development in the "hypo/hypersensitivity" and "preoccupation with parts of objects" subdomains within the stereotyped/restricted behavior domain.

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive late-onset neurodegenerative disease leading to physical and cognitive decline. Mutations of leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) are the most common genetic cause of PD. LRRK2 is a complex scaffolding protein with known regulatory roles in multiple molecular pathways. Two prominent examples of LRRK2-modulated pathways are Wingless/Int (Wnt) and nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) signaling. Both are well described key regulators of immune and nervous system development as well as maturation. The aim of this study was to establish the physiological and pathogenic role of LRRK2 in Wnt and NFAT signaling in the brain, as well as the potential contribution of the non-canonical Wnt/Calcium pathway. In vivo cerebral Wnt and NFATc1 signaling activity was quantified in LRRK2 G2019S mutant knock-in (KI) and LRRK2 knockout (KO) male and female mice with repeated measures over 28 weeks, employing lentiviral luciferase biosensors, and analyzed using a mixed-effect model. To establish spatial resolution, we investigated tissues, and primary neuronal cell cultures from different brain regions combining luciferase signaling activity, immunohistochemistry, qPCR and western blot assays. Results were analyzed by unpaired t-test with Welch’s correction or 2-way ANOVA with post hoc corrections. In vivo Wnt signaling activity in LRRK2 KO and LRRK2 G2019S KI mice was increased significantly ~ threefold, with a more pronounced effect in males (~ fourfold) than females (~ twofold). NFATc1 signaling was reduced ~ 0.5-fold in LRRK2 G2019S KI mice. Brain tissue analysis showed region-specific expression changes in Wnt and NFAT signaling components. These effects were predominantly observed at the protein level in the striatum and cerebral cortex of LRRK2 KI mice. Primary neuronal cell culture analysis showed significant genotype-dependent alterations in Wnt and NFATc1 signaling under basal and stimulated conditions. Wnt and NFATc1 signaling was primarily dysregulated in cortical and hippocampal neurons respectively. Our study further built on knowledge of LRRK2 as a Wnt and NFAT signaling protein. We identified complex changes in neuronal models of LRRK2 PD, suggesting a role for mutant LRRK2 in the dysregulation of NFAT, and canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling.

Background Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) is an inherited, progressive, and fatal disease still largely underdiagnosed. Mutations in the transthyretin (TTR) gene cause the TTR protein to destabilize, misfold, aggregate, and deposit in body tissues, which makes ATTRv a disease with heterogeneous clinical phenotype.

Abstract Background Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers superb non-invasive, soft tissue imaging of the human body. However, extensive data sampling requirements severely restrict the spatiotemporal resolution achievable with MRI. This limits the modality’s utility in real-time guidance applications, particularly for the rapidly growing MRI-guided radiation therapy approach to cancer treatment. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) could reduce the trade-off between the spatial and the temporal resolution of MRI, thus increasing the clinical utility of the imaging modality. Methods We trained deep learning-based super-resolution neural networks to increase the spatial resolution of real-time MRI. We developed a framework to integrate neural networks directly onto a 1.0 T MRI-linac enabling real-time super-resolution imaging. We integrated this framework with the targeting system of the MRI-linac to demonstrate real-time beam adaptation with super-resolution-based imaging. We tested the integrated system using large publicly available datasets, healthy volunteer imaging, phantom imaging, and beam tracking experiments using bicubic interpolation as a baseline comparison. Results Deep learning-based super-resolution increases the spatial resolution of real-time MRI across a variety of experiments, offering measured performance benefits compared to bicubic interpolation. The temporal resolution is not compromised as measured by a real-time adaptation latency experiment. These two effects, an increase in the spatial resolution with a negligible decrease in the temporal resolution, leads to a net increase in the spatiotemporal resolution. Conclusions Deployed super-resolution neural networks can increase the spatiotemporal resolution of real-time MRI. This has applications to domains such as MRI-guided radiation therapy and interventional procedures.

Background: Determining the incidence and prevalence of injury and illness in short-course triathletes would improve understanding of their etiologies and therefore assist in the development and implementation of prevention strategies. This study synthesizes the existing evidence on the incidence and prevalence of injury and illness and summarizes reported injury or illness etiology and risk factors affecting short-course triathletes. Methods: This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Studies reporting health problems (injury and illness) in triathletes (all sexes, ages, and experience levels) training and/or competing in short-course distances were included. Six electronic databases (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, Embase, APA PsychINFO, Web of Science Core Collection, and SPORTDiscus) were searched. Risk of bias was independently assessed by 2 reviewers using the Newcastle–Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. Two authors independently completed data extraction. Results: The search yielded 7998 studies, with 42 studies eligible for inclusion. Twenty-three studies investigated injuries, 24 studies investigated illnesses, and 5 studies investigated both injuries and illnesses. The injury incidence rate ranged 15.7–24.3 per 1000 athlete exposures, and the illness incidence rate ranged 1.8–13.1 per 1000 athlete days. Injury and illness prevalence ranged between 2%–15% and 6%–84%, respectively. Most injuries reported occurred during running (45%–92%), and the most frequently reported illnesses affected the gastrointestinal (7%–70%), cardiovascular (14%–59%), and respiratory systems (5%–60%). Conclusion: The most frequently reported health problems in short-course triathletes were: overuse and lower limb injuries associated with running; gastrointestinal illnesses and altered cardiac function, primarily attributable to environmental factors; and respiratory illness mostly caused by infection.
