This thesis explores resistance work in Nazi-occupied France and Vichy France during World War II. The research uses paramilitary acts of resistance as a foil to political resistance, intelligence gathering and evasive resistance, and the home front as a site of resistance to spotlight women’s contributions to the French resistance. By exploring several types of resistance work and women’s participation (or lack thereof) in various resistance organizations, this thesis seeks to not only establish the extent of women’s participation in the French resistance but also explore their challenge to the established gender roles within the resistance. This thesis explores the extent of women’s resistance activities across World War II France through internal organizations, such as the French Communist Party and the French Resistance, and external organizations like the Bureau Central de Renseignements et d’Action (BCRA), British Special Operatives Executive’s F (French) Section (SOE), the British Secret Intelligence Service, and the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS). In the context of these organizations’ activities, this thesis analyzes the gendering of resistance while considering the presence of women in various resistance organizations and their resistance activities to contextualize scope and scale of women’s contributions to resistance work in occupied and Vichy France.

Eve Zaremba (born 1930), a Polish Canadian feminist writer and activist, business owner, and marketing executive, has earned a place in the history of Canadian women's struggle for equality. Through her involvement in the founding and publishing of the feminist newspaper Broadside: A Feminist Review (1979–1989), she was able to bring readers' attention to many social issues, and by writing a series of detective stories featuring a lesbian detective, she earned the distinction of creating the first openly lesbian PI in the detective genre. Her autobiography, The Broad Side: Reflections on a Long Life, examines closely the forces that shaped her personality, especially her childhood in prewar Warsaw, her intellectual parents, the horror of World War II, and her education in Scotland. Salar Mohandesi's book, "Red Internationalism: Anti-Imperialism and Human Rights in the Global Sixties and Seventies," explores the intellectual history of anti-Vietnam War activism in the 1960s and 1970s. On August 25, 1879, nineteen-year-old Eliza Francis Levesay, the daughter of a tenant farmer, and twenty-five-year-old William Miers, the son of a prosperous landowner and farmer, traveled from rural Decatur County, Indiana, to the county seat of Greensburg. Eliza was pregnant, and local dentist Columbus C. Burns performed an abortion on the young woman. Eliza miscarried the pregnancy in her parents' home days later, and Miers and Burns were charged by the Decatur County Court with procuring an abortion and second-degree murder. The trial garnered local, regional, and national attention. Using long-unknown court documents—including Eliza's deposition, taken by the mayor of Greensburg—author Madeleine Boesche recounts a story of premarital sex and out-of-wedlock pregnancy, community standards and secrets, social class, and the practice of abortion in the nineteenth-century rural Midwest. Background: National level Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) is normal in Bangladesh despite its patriarchal social structures, strong son preference, and low fertility level, widely recognized as preconditions for Gender-Biased Sex Selection (GBSS). To better understand this anomaly, we examine the trend in SRB in a sub-district in Bangladesh and assess the impact of the introduction of fetal sex-detection technology and the history of induced abortion on child sex using longitudinal data. Methods: We have used secondary data collected routinely by icddr, b's Matlab Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) between 1982 and 2018. All births occurring during this period (N = 206,390) were included in the analyses. We calculated the SRB and used multivariate logistic regression analyses to assess the likelihood of birth of a male child before and after the introduction of ultrasonogram in Matlab. Results: Overall, SRB was within the natural limit (106) during 1982–2018 in Matlab. SRB among women with a history of induced abortion was 109.3 before the introduction of ultrasonography in 2001 and 113.5 – after 2001. Women's history of induced abortion prior to introduction of ultrasonogram (1982–2000) increased the likelihood of birth of a male child 1.06 times (AOR 1.06; 95% CI- 1.01–1.11). In the period after, however, this likelihood was 1.08 (AOR 1.08; 95% CI- 1.02–1.15). Conclusions: In a context with normal SRB, it was found to be skewed among women who had induced abortion. SRB was relatively more skewed among such women after the advent of ultrasonogram compared to a period without ultrasonogram. Moreover, induced abortion after introduction of fetal sex determination technology increased the likelihood of birth of a male child. These findings suggest the plausibility of GBSS in a sub-group. Further research is needed, particularly in regions with skewed SRB to examine whether GBSS is indeed a threat to Bangladesh. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

British high society in the interwar years was led by a small group of hostesses who were instrumental in heralding consistency after the upheaval of the Great War. Yet, they were also beacons of change, introducing the famous names of the day to each other. Likewise, the country house was entering a period of adjustment as many changed hands or were utilised more often due to the advent of the motor car and quicker travel. This article analyses the role of two hostesses who were at the centre of two of the greatest scandals of the 1930s and argues that the seclusion of the country house was significant to events. Wallis Simpsons role as de facto hostess at Fort Belvedere is explored through the writings of her contemporaries and analysed in the context of the Abdication Crisis. This article introduces a special issue on power and patriarchy in British country houses, exploring the historical significance of these houses as symbols of wealth and power. It discusses the marginalization of women's lives and influences within these spaces and aims to recover and interrogate their stories. Purpose: To study retinal and choroidal microcirculation by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in pregnant women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) and to compare them with healthy pregnant and nonpregnant subjects. Methods: Pregnant women with an unexplained history of RSA (group 1), healthy pregnant (group 2), and healthy non-pregnant women (group 3) were included in the study. After a thorough ophthalmologic examination:best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure,slit-lamp biomicroscopy, fundus examination,autorefractometer, biometry, and axial length measurement; OCT and OCTA measurements were performed with Swept Source OCT-Angiography (Topcon Co, Japan). Results: The nonpregnant group had higher values for central foveal superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP) vessel density (VD) and lower values for superior, inferior, and mean VD compared with pregnant groups (p < 0.001). Choriocapillaris values (CC) VD were higher in groups 1 and 2 than in group 3 (p < 0.001). The group with unexplained RSA had a relatively smaller FAZ (foveal avascular zone) area than the group of healthy pregnant women (p:0.047). There were no statistically significant differences between groups in the retina, retinal nerve fiber layer, ganglion cell layer, and choroidal thickness (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Although our study did not identify any etiology in pregnant women with RSA, we observed detectable differences in FAZ area and vessel density values using OCTA, when comparing them with healthy pregnant women and healthy nonpregnant controls. We believe that OCTA, as used in many pathologies such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy and retinal vascular occlusion, can also be extended to unexplained RSA both to detect etiology and to monitor treatment in studies with a larger number of patients. Pregnant women with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are a priority population for hepatitis B care. Identification of HBV status prior to pregnancy would facilitate timely maternal interventions and perinatal care. In our study, we aimed to study the epidemiology of CHB among women of childbearing age (WoCBA, 18–49 years) in Alberta, Canada. We retrospectively analysed Alberta Analytics databases to study CHB epidemiology, natural history and care linkage among WoCBA in Alberta, between April 2012 and March 2021. A Poisson regression was conducted to estimate incidence of newly identified CHB cases and prevalence trends, whereas predictors of care linkage were determined using logistic regression. Age/sex‐adjusted incidence of newly identified CHB among WoCBA between 2015 and 2020 was 36.2/100,000 person/years, highest among individuals aged 30–39 years. Incidence of newly identified CHB decreased from 52.6 to 18.2/100,000 between 2015 and 2020, but prevalence increased from 131.7 to 248.6/100,000 in the same period. Newly identified CHB incident cases (n = 2124) had lower survival rates than age/sex‐matched Canadians, with a standardized mortality ratio of 5.7 (95% CI 2.6–11.0). Increasing age (years) at diagnosis (HR, 1.2; 95% CI 1.1–1.3) was independently associated with mortality. Comorbid hepatocellular carcinoma, anti‐HBV treatment and year of diagnosis were not significantly associated with mortality. Of the 1927 women with 2436 hepatitis B surface antigen‐positive pregnancies from 2012 to 2020, only 27.6% had recommended HBV assessment during pregnancy. Of those women meeting criteria for antiviral therapy to prevent mother‐to‐child transmission (MTCT), only 66.4% received treatment. Suboptimal management during pregnancy and overall lower survival rates highlight the need to address care linkage barriers in women of childbearing age living with CHB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Historical fiction has long been one of television's most prominent genres. It was not until the advent of streaming TV in the 21st century, however, that the genre reached its radical feminist potential. Written, directed, produced by and starring women, contemporary women's historical fiction has exploded as both a marketable and an ideological genre. Three series - Good Girls Revolt (Amazon, 2016), Mrs. America (Hulu, 2020), and Halt and Catch Fire (AMC, 2014–17)—exemplify women's challenge to the orthodoxy of male-driven historical fiction. These three shows not only reclaim women's 20th Century American histories, but they also refute accepted conceptualizations of the genre and of History itself. Through circular storytelling, the blending of fact and fiction, and new female archetypes, these three series narrate coherent and consistent women's histories heretofore missing in popular memory. From this foundation, these series discuss, debate, and fantasize about women's lived experiences in the past, as well as commenting on the present and dreaming about the future of women's lives and desires. The private writings of two Southern Baptist women missionaries in China are analyzed to deepen our understanding of women's perspectives on their daily lives. After reviewing secondary research on married and single women's work in China, the author uses primary source examples from family letters and diaries to illustrate differences in responsibilities and opportunities for single and married women, and how motherhood changed their relationship to their work even further. Requirements for "homemaking", and a "civilizing mission" expected of married women, increased pressure on missionary wives. Single women, arriving in larger numbers in the early 20th century, were able to focus only on the mission work and accomplish more. The success and productivity of single women further marginalized married women, particularly those with children, who could not keep up with their single counterparts in the mission work. By exploring these two exemplars we can draw an even more nuanced picture of the many ways Baptist women missionaries negotiated their callings in light of their family status. In 1993, historian of American science Margaret Rossiter introduced the concept of the “Matilda Effect,” to describe a common historical pattern of women's achievements in science and medicine being ignored or purloined by male associates. At the same time, she was writing, however, professional work was being done in a variety of areas of women's history, including the medieval period from which Rossiter drew what she thought was her most salient example: the medical figure, “Trotula.” In fact, “Trotula” was not a woman but the title of a book. Extensive research by professional historians has shown that the real historic woman, Trota of Salerno, was widely credited by her contemporaries (and for the next 300 years) not only for her own work but also for the work of two male writers whose texts became attached to hers in the Trotula ensemble. These findings from professional historical research have been known for over 20 years but rarely acknowledged in Science Studies. The present study proposes that a corrected understanding of Trota's story provides a useful example, not of the Matilda Effect, but of the ways gender functions to restrict even famous women to certain roles. Feminist activists have always been invested in the processes of history-making, drawing inspiration from their predecessors and ensuring their own historical legacies. For participants at Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp, history played an important role in the written, visual, and artistic culture of the camp, but it also generated sharp debates over who was allowed to define these histories. It was through these debates that women at Greenham Common remade their politics, defining what it meant for women to be rebellious both in the contemporary moment and in the past. Activist-led modes of history-making defied established chronologies of women’s politics by shaping new timelines of influence, solidarity, and shared experiences. This article views Greenham women as producers of history, examining the use of historical symbolism in their direct action and explorations of identity. The final section focuses on the efforts of a small group of women based at the Yellow Gate camp to create a cohesive legacy of the Greenham Peace Camp. Overall, this article demonstrates how feminist activists have challenged concepts of historical expertise and legacy through the production and consumption of diverse forms of history-making. Our understanding of history reveals far more about ourselves than the subjects analyzed. Within this Viewpoint, the six wives of King Henry VIII become a case study for each generation’s identities and how it plays a role in the interpretations of women’s histories. Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Katherine Parr are some of the most instantly recognizable historical British women, and yet primary sources are mainly void of their personal voices, lost to history amongst a wave of political agendas, misogyny, and religious vendettas. At different periods, they have been victims, sluts, saints, and feminist icons. This article attempts to analyze some of those most iconic interpretations of these women and what influences from that specific era played a role in the depiction. In the end, the practice of history itself is fallible, meaning that the real identities of the six wives of Henry VIII have been lost to us. Background Methods Results Conclusions Breast cancer is the most frequent female malignancy in the UK. Around 20% of cases are linked to weight gain, excess weight and health behaviours. We designed a weight gain prevention, health behaviour intervention for young women at increased risk.The study comprised a single arm observational study over 2 months testing acceptability and usability of the intervention: online group welcome event, app and private Facebook group. Females aged 18–35 years at moderate or high risk of breast cancer (>17% lifetime risk) were recruited via invite letters and social media posts. The app included behaviour change techniques and education content. Online questionnaires were completed at baseline, as well as at 1 and 2 months. We also assessed feasibility of study procedures.Both recruitment methods were successful. Thirty‐five women were recruited, 26% via social media posts. Median age was 33 (interquartile range = 28.2–34.5) years, the majority (94.1%) were of White ethnicity. Thirty‐four participants were included in the analyses, of which 94% downloaded the app. Median self‐monitoring logs per participant during the study period was 10.0 (interquartile range = 4.8–28.8). App quality mean (SD) score was 3.7 (0.6) at 1 and 2 months (scale: 1–5). Eighty‐nine per cent rated the app at average or above at 1 month and 75.0% at 2 months. Nineteen women (55.9%) joined the Facebook group and there were 61 comments and 83 reactions and votes from participants during the study period.This first iteration of the app and intervention was well received and is suitable to progress to the next stage of refining and further testing. Focussing on the life-long activism of former suffragette and feminist Hazel Hunkins-Hallinan this article presents an innovative re-appraisal of histories of the women’s movement in England during the 1960s and 1970s. Adopting a micro-history approach the article uses Hunkins-Hallinan’s experience of feminist activism to make two connected arguments. The first is to challenge the suggestion that post-suffrage feminist societies such as the Six Point Group lost their ability to participate in and influence campaigns for gender equality into the second half of the twentieth century. The second is to ensure that the contributions made by older women to the women’s movement during the 1960s and 1970s are no longer obscured by the emergence of the Women’s Liberation Movement. Drawing on both arguments the article reveals the previously hidden co-operation and intersection between older and younger generations of women campaigning for women’s rights during these two pivotal decades. Infected aneurysms, though rare, present significant challenges in contemporary medical practice. Coined by Sir William Osler in 1885, the term "mycotic aneurysm" encompasses infections of native arteries and preexisting aneurysms, posing life-threatening risks of arterial rupture and recurrence. We discuss a case involving a 51-yearold woman with a giant infected aneurysm, highlighting the complexities in diagnosis. The patient presented with bleeding from her left ear, a fluctuating neck mass, and decreased hearing. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) played a crucial role in revealing the infected giant aneurysm in the left internal carotid artery, associated with arteriovenous malformation and fistula. Additionally, incidental findings included aneurysms in the right internal carotid and bilateral vertebral arteries. The case underscores the importance of a high index of suspicion and advanced diagnostic tools for timely and accurate diagnosis. The rarity of experienced centers in managing such cases, coupled with a lack of consensus in diagnostic criteria, poses challenges for treatment improvements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article builds on previous literary scholarship to analyse the social and publication history of the enormously successful Lettres portugaises (1669), five letters published in the voice of an anonymous Portuguese nun to a French officer. Although the letters were based on an ancient model, this article suggests that their references to contemporary gendered constructions of biology and love, especially for enclosed women, were successfully used by publishers to commercialise a historically recurring gender binary of heterosexual love: men were rejected and women were abandoned. The popularity of the text was such that it entrenched notions of women's helplessness in matters of the heart for almost three centuries. This article argues that the Lettres portugaises' success was as much the result of the text's literary qualities as it was of the canny paratextual strategies deployed by seventeenth‐ and eighteenth‐century publishers to sell the book, its sequels and its imitations. The earliest example of the Ancient Greek word for a victor's prize, nikatērion, comes in a verse inscription from the sixth century bce on an Attic kylix (wine cup) from Taras. It records the victory of Melōsa in a competition with other young women. This article draws out the significance of her victory and redefines our understanding of who she was. Previous interpretations which define Melōsa by her relationship to men are rejected. Instead, it is argued that Melōsa's verse defines her place within a female world. This inscription is significant in the pursuit of feminist historical recovery, revealing aspects of female–female social relationships outside the confines of the traditional male–female paradigm. This article identifies a specific historiographical gap obfuscating communist women, namely, a 'double blind spot' rooted in the combined effect of the scant consideration of women in histories of communism and of communist activists in accounts of the women's movement. It traces this pattern of invisibilisation back to the paradigm of communist women's 'instrumentalisation' and to the resulting paradox of an 'activism without agency'. The article then provides a critique of this received image; first, through an analysis of emerging scholarship on the female communist experience; second, through recourse to actors' own perspective on the rapport between communism and feminism and the possibilities of 'double militancy', drawn from sources of the post‐1968 Italian context. This article analyses the impact South Korean housewives exerted on Cold War‐era domesticity. It first traces the trans‐war trajectory of modern domesticity from Meiji Japan and its colonies through its Cold War manifestation, when America exerted hegemonic influence. Thereafter, this article examines the tactics that housewives employed to gain power within the domestic sphere and beyond: earning money, microfinance, labour and side‐line work, and an assertive response to the purse string debate in South Korea. The article also argues that even though prescriptive gender norms continued to inform the everyday lives of these housewives, their increasing bargaining power gave them economic authority to renegotiate and reimagine domesticity during the Cold War. This essay provides a synthetic overview of the preceding articles in this special issue on Feminist Histories, situating them within the historical literature that helped shape the field of U.S. women's history. Drawing out recurrent ideas across topics, the afterword identifies how the authors both build upon and innovatively expand the overlapping concepts of "the personal is political" and intersectional identities. Our article examines how women built an expansive community during the 1970s and 1980s through the pages of Lesbian Connection, one of the era's most widely circulated publications of the lesbian feminist movement. To reveal this community, we map thousands of locations that appeared in the periodical, revealing a geography that tilted toward rural areas and mid-sized cities instead of the major metropolitan centers that have received much of the attention within LGBTQ scholarship. Through the magazine's reader-submitted content, advertisements for lesbian-owned businesses, and a directory of volunteers who served as local contacts for an area, Lesbian Connection bridged the spatial scales of long-distance media networks and in-person interactions to create a vibrant lesbian community that transcended region and locality. The new historicism theory propounds that history is inherently textual, is composed of texts, and thus no such thing as absolute truth is possible while recounting the past. As a form of text, poetry stands out as a tool to reflect the society of which it is a product. As the first female poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy encapsulates both fictional and nonfictional women from history and successfully manipulates what has already been narrated by men into something novel to give voice to women's concerns in her poetry. This study, employing a new historicist approach, examines "Mrs Aesop" and "Eurydice" from Duffy's poetry collection The World's Wife to explore the prevailing sense of misandry among women in the late-twentieth-century Britain with the potential motivations behind the social dynamics that might have resulted in hostility towards men. Smallholder, indigenous farmers play a key role in the food system in Ecuador, applying traditional farming practices that ensure the sustainability of their food production and meeting the dietary demands of many urban consumers, especially for organic vegetables and dairy products. This study examines the position of six women's associations in the central Ecuadorian Andes, discussing their evolution from rights-based to market-oriented organizations producing and selling agroecological products. We discuss how the history of these associations has led them to play a role in local politics and national policies around agriculture and highlight how these organizations have succeeded both economically and socially, while also noting the challenges they face, as observed by themselves and outsiders. While the history of women's agroecological production organizations in Ecuador may be unique, as it is entrenched in indigenous rights movements, our results also point to opportunities and obstacles that are more common across small scale farmers and deserve attention from both policymakers and agricultural organizations. The drug experiences of women in Western society have been both sensationalized for their scandalous aspects and sterilized in clinical reports, but the role of women in the investigation of psychedelics in modern Western history is obscure, and the identities and activities of early women participants are often unknown. This paper explores some of the under-reported history of women's contributions to psychedelic exploration and research in the twentieth century. Mabel Luhan and Valentina Wasson represent women whose stories have entered the canon of psychedelic history but have failed to fully represent their individual impact. Wasson's work is often subsumed under that of her more well-known husband. Luhan is considered to be a psychedelic pioneer, but her pattern of interference in the politics of peyote in the Taos Pueblo is often overlooked. The poet Mary Barnard is well-known as a translator of Sappho, but her lyrical writing on psychedelics is less celebrated. Gertrude Paltin and Kay Parley are female therapists and authors whose valuable writing on psychedelics is almost unknown in the field. There remain many women whose significant contributions to the exploration and employment of psychedelics for spiritual development, personal discovery, individual betterment or therapeutic impact have not been well recorded. Mindfulness-based treatments, which directly challenge avoidance, have been shown to be effective in treating sexual dysfunction, however, it is not yet clear whether there are differences in trait mindfulness between women with and without a history of USC. We used data from four previous studies and compared trait mindfulness on the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) in women with and without a history of USC. There were no significant differences between the USC and no-USC groups on total FFMQ score, nor on most individual domain scores; however, significant group differences were found on observe and acting with awareness subscales. We speculate on the possible meaning of the USC group having higher observe scores and lower acting with awareness scores compared to the no-USC group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Like many port cities in the 19th-century Caribbean, the free port of Gustavia in the Swedish-Caribbean colony of St Barthélemy had a high ratio of women to men, many of whom were enslaved women or free women of colour, disenfranchised under Swedish colonial law. They were present in public life, and can be seen in many cases of breaking 'vägfrid' or participating in public fights, verbally or physically. Sexual honour was a frequent point of conflict in these fights, which could be directed to not just individuals, but entire households. When we examine these cases more closely, we can see how what might at first seem to be random arguments were often embedded in interpersonal relationships, where the street became the meeting place for people, but also an area of conflict between houses. Noise was a frequent consideration in these cases, especially the racialized noise of Black women, as Caribbean homes were very open and led to noise spreading quite easily. The past eras of history were not, most of the times, permissive with the activity and manifestation of women within the society. For various reasons, women were neither helped nor encouraged to participate in large-scale social actions, they did not have access to ancient sports competitions, they were denied education to become painters, writers, philosophers or leaders. Despite all these impediments that intervened in history, women manifested themselves in society with a lot of power, either in literature (Sapho), philosophy (Hypathia) but also in state leadership (as pharaohs, in ancient Egypt). The present work brings to attention the names of great female personalities from ancient but also from recent history, women endowed with exceptional intelligence and character, who contributed to social progress and, above all, demonstrated that women can play an important role, which cannot be ignored in the history of humanity. Judith A. Allen, a distinguished historian of gender, sexuality, crime, and first wave feminism, passed away suddenly in London in 2024. She made significant contributions to the field of women's history in Australia and expanded her research to include American, Canadian, and British history. Allen was known for her methodological approach to feminist readings and her ability to read archives for what they didn't say. She was a highly respected professor at Indiana University and played a key role in establishing the Gender Studies department there. At any given time, 16% of the world's female population is made up of widowed women, though this figure varies by region. The loss of a spouse usually means the loss of economic and social support for the surviving partner. Understanding the experience of widowhood is essential to understanding society; the lives of widows offer insights into how societies are organised and what responses there are to those in need. This paper investigates the survival strategies of widows in Cape Town in 1938/9 using a household survey in order to understand whether their experiences differed by race in the city just before World War II and a decade before the formalisation of apartheid. The survey provides the opportunity to understand how widows in the city lived and worked, whether they cared for others or were given care from others. The paper considers the structures of households and the incomes of widows. Who did widows live with? Or did they live alone? Were they more likely to work than other women in the city? Was it common for widows to live with non-family members? One finding is that although coloured and white households seemed similar in size and nature, widowhood brought differences between them to the fore. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Definition: The history of women archaeologists in Portugal and their contribution to the development of the discipline is yet to be studied. However, in recent years, some articles published in Portugal have contributed to the construction of this history. Some of these are from the year 2020, and although the coronavirus pandemic has affected the progress of these investigations, especially regarding fieldwork. Generally, these are quantitative studies based on the number of publications by women archaeologists and their references and interviews in newspapers. These articles, which require significant time for database analysis, have not yet explained the existing gaps. It is not the scope of this paper to pursue this quantitative scope; instead, it intends to conduct a qualitative analysis of the contribution of women archaeologists to the development of prehistoric studies in Northern Portugal. To achieve this goal, we are focusing on analysing the doctoral theses developed by women concerning pre- and proto-historic archaeology in Northern Portugal. With this evaluation, we intend to contribute to the history of Portuguese women's archaeology and, at the same time, highlight their methodological and conceptual achievements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
