ObjectiveTo investigate the resistance to pyrethroids， beta-cyhalothrin and fenitrothion as well as the frequencies of kdr and ace⁃1 alleles in Anopheles sinensis from three geographical populations in Chongming District， Shanghai.MethodsThe contact tube method recommended by WHO was used to determine mosquito resistance. The frequencies of kdr and ace⁃1 alleles in adult mosquitoes were determined by PCR amplification. The correlation between the frequencies of kdr alleles and insecticide resistance was analyzed by linear regression method.ResultsThe mosquito population near natural reserve （NF） was sensitive to deltamethrin， and the mortality rate was 100.00% at 24 h. The mosquito population with intensive breeding farms （HX） showed resistance to deltamethrin and beta-cyhalothrin， and the 24 h mortality was 48.00 % and 57.50 %， respectively. The 24 h mortality rate of the mosquito population with urban-rural integration area （AS） with suspected resistance to deltamethrin and beta-cyhalothrin was 84.40% and 86.00%. The 24 h mortality rate to Fenitrothion was 55.67%. There were 3 mutations in kdr gene locus 1014， and 7 mutated genotypes were detected， mainly L1014/L1014F and L1014F/L1014F. The mutation frequency of kdr allele in HX population was the highest （52.68%）. There was one mutation at site 119 of ace⁃1 gene， and three genotypes were detected， most of which were G119S mutation. There was a significant negative correlation between the frequency of kdr resistance allele and the mortality rate of beta-cypermethrin in An.sinensis populations （r2=0.930，P=0.036）. There was a significant negative correlation between the frequency of ace⁃1 resistance allele and the mortality rate of fenitrothion in An. sinensis populations from four habitats （r2=0.996，P=0.038）.ConclusionThe mutation frequency of insecticide resistance allele is associated with the development of mosquito resistance level. Therefore， comprehensive monitoring of resistance levels of An.sinensis in Chongming area should be continued to provide a basis for local mosquito resistance management.

Ticks are the second most harmful infectious agent in the world after mosquitoes and can transmit a variety of pathogens. The surveillance of pathogen in ticks is one of the important means for the prevention and control of tick-borne diseases and tick-borne pathogens. This paper reviewed the literature published in the past two decades on the principles， advantages， disadvantages and applications of current tick pathogen detection technologies. The paper introduced the development and application of various PCR technologies， and looks forward to the future direction. Finally， it points out that metagenomics represented by high-throughput sequencing will become the mainstream development direction of pathogen detection technology in the future.

Before 2000, a large number of mangrove forests in Guangxi were cut down for aqua-cultural purposes. After 2000, with the introduction of national, provincial and municipal policies on mangrove protection, this phenomenon was less frequently seen. By using the object-oriented method, referring to the spectral and texture characteristics of the ground target, and using the Landsat remote sensing images of 2000-2019, this paper extracts and analyzes the area and change of mangrove and aquaculture area in Maowei sea, Guangxi. The results show that the use of object-oriented methods can extract mangroves and aquaculture areas with higher accuracy. The area of mangroves generally shows an upward trend, with the area of aquaculture increasing first and then decreasing.

This study investigates the specific circulation anomalies that have sustained the low Antarctic sea ice state since 2016. Firstly, we find a significant strengthening and southward shift in the Ferrel Cell (FC) during 2016–2022, resulting in a marked increase in southward transport of heat and moisture. Secondly, this enhanced FC is closely associated with a stronger mid‐latitude wave pattern. This pattern is zonally asymmetric and greatly amplifies the poleward advections of heat and moisture, leading to the increased downward longwave radiation, more liquid precipitation and sea ice retreat in specific regions, including the western Pacific and Indian Ocean sectors, Ross and northern Weddell Seas. The mechanism deduced from the short‐term period is further supported by the results of 40 ensemble members of simulations. The southward expansion of the FC and sea ice decline are closely linked to La Niña‐like conditions but may also be driven by anthropogenic global warming. Plain Language Summary: Following the sudden decline in 2016, the Antarctic sea ice extent has persisted at historically low levels. In 2023, it reached unprecedented record lows. However, the specific atmospheric circulation anomalies that have sustained the Antarctic sea ice at low levels are still unknown. It is well‐established that the Ferrel Cell, a mid‐latitude atmospheric meridional circulation, plays a pivotal role in the energy exchange between the high‐ and mid‐latitudes. Our findings indicate that the enhanced Ferrel Cell zonally intensified southward transport of heat and moisture over the sea ice regions, which sustains the overall low Antarctic sea ice state. Additionally, in the horizontal plane, the enhanced mid‐latitude wave pattern is responsible for the regional sea ice retreat over the western Pacific sector, Ross Sea, Indian Ocean sector, and northern Weddell Sea, and is also closely associated with the enhanced Ferrel Cell. The effects of the enhanced Ferrel Cell on Antarctic sea ice decline are further supported by the results of large ensemble simulations. Therefore, this study suggests that concurrent with the southward shifting of the Ferrel Cell, the stronger warm and moist air intrusions, and the increased liquid precipitation, restrict the Antarctic sea ice expansion following its sudden decline. RNA-sequencing enables accurate and low-cost transcriptome-wide detection. However, expression estimates vary as reference genomes and gene annotations are updated, confounding existing expression-based prognostic signatures. Herein, prognostic 9-gene pair signature (GPS) was applied to 197 patients with stage I lung adenocarcinoma derived from previous and latest data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) processed with different reference genomes and annotations. For 9-GPS, 6.6% of patients exhibited discordant risk classifications between the two TCGA versions. Similar results were observed for other prognostic signatures, including IRGPI, 15-gene and ORACLE. We found that conflicting annotations for gene length and overlap were the major cause of their discordant risk classification. Therefore, we constructed a prognostic 40-GPS based on stable genes across GENCODE v20-v30 and validated it using public data of 471 stage I samples (log-rank P  < 0.0010). Risk classification was still stable in RNA-sequencing data processed with the newest GENCODE v32 versus GENCODE v20–v30. Specifically, 40-GPS could predict survival for 30 stage I samples with formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues (log-rank P  = 0.0177). In conclusion, this method overcomes the vulnerability of existing prognostic signatures due to reference genome and annotation updates. 40-GPS may offer individualized clinical applications due to its prognostic accuracy and classification stability. In recent decades, the melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) has become one of the major causes of global sea-level rise. Supraglacial lakes (SGLs) are typical hydrological features produced on the surface of the GrIS during the melt seasons. The existence and evolution of SGLs play an important role in the melting process of the ice sheet surface. To understand the distribution and recent changes of SGLs in Greenland, this study developed a random forest (RF) algorithm incorporating the texture and morphological features to automatically identify SGLs based on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. Sentinel-2 imagery was used to map the SGLs inventory in Greenland during the 2016–2018 melt seasons and to explore the spatial and temporal variability characteristics of SGLs. Our results show changes in SGLs from 2016 to 2018, with the total area decreasing by ~1152.22 km2 and the number increasing by 1134; SGLs are mainly distributed in western Greenland (SW, CW, NW) and northeastern Greenland (NE), where the NE region has the largest number of observed SGLs and the largest SGL was with the surface area of 16.60 km2 (2016). SGLs were found to be most active in the area with the elevation of 800–1600 m and the slope of 0–5°, and showed a phenomenon of retreating to lower elevation areas and developing to steeper slope areas. Our work provided a method for rapid inventory of SGLs. This study will help monitor the mass balance of the GrIS and predict future rapid ice loss from Greenland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Previous observational studies have shown that polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) was associated with adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. However, it remains controversial whether PCOS is an essential risk factor for these adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. We aimed to use instrumental variables in a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to determine causality between PCOS and adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes., Materials and Methods: Summary statistics were extracted from a recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis conducted in PCOS, which included 10,074 cases and 103,164 controls of European ancestry. Data on Adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes were summarized from the FinnGen database of European ancestry, which included more than 180,000 samples. The inverse variance weighted (IVW) method of MR was applied for the main outcome. To assess heterogeneity and pleiotropy, we conducted sensitivity analyses, including leave-one-out analysis, weighted median, MR-PRESSO (Mendelian Randomization Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier), and MR-Egger regression., Results: Two-sample MR analysis with the IVW method suggested that PCOS exerted causal effects on the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy [odds ratio (OR) 1.170, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.051-1.302, p = 0.004], in particular gestational hypertension (OR 1.083, 95% CI 1.007-1.164, p = 0.031), but not other pregnancy and perinatal diseases (all p > 0.05). Sensitivity analyses demonstrated pleiotropy only in pre-eclampsia or eclampsia ( p = 0.0004), but not in other pregnancy and perinatal diseases (all p > 0.05). The results remained consistent after excluding two outliers (all p > 0.05)., Conclusions: We confirmed a causal relationship between PCOS and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, in particular gestational hypertension, but no association with any other adverse pregnancy or perinatal outcome. Soil-transmitted helminthiasis remains a notable health problem in developing countries. In 1990 in Shanghai, a city in eastern China, 47% of the population was affected. Due to a series of comprehensive approaches, the prevalence decreased to 0.5% in 2009. We collected 10-year surveillance data to assess the epidemic situation of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections in Shanghai. Stool samples and questionnaires from participants were collected. The Kato-Katz technique was used to detect infections with Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus), and Trichuris trichiura. From 2014 to 2023, a total of 77,685 participants were screened for parasitic infections, and the overall prevalence of STH infections decreased from 0.1% to 0% in Shanghai. Of 77,685 participants, 25 (0.03%) were positive for intestinal helminths, with the most common parasite being A. lumbricoides (72.0%). Generally, elderly participants from rural areas with lower education levels were more likely to be infected with STHs. A total of 2,914 questionnaires were collected, and most respondents (72.6%) had good knowledge about the transmission routes of STHs. However, 12.3% of participants did not know the damage to health caused by STHs, and 19.3% had no idea of how to prevent infection. These data demonstrate the current state of STH infections in Shanghai. The results suggest that various comprehensive measures should be encouraged, continuously implemented, and strengthened accordingly so that STH elimination can be integrated into the Healthy China initiative by 2030.
