The study aimed to reveal how the concept of geographical indication is perceived by the local people living in Rize. To achieve this, the Word Association Test (WAT) was used to measure the concept of geographical indication. Data was collected from a total of 31 locals living in Rize using the WAT form. The analysis revealed that 52 words were repeated 212 times. The most frequently repeated words were "Laz Böreği" (21), "Tea" (20), and "Kara Lahana" (17). The words associated with the concept of geographical indication are products commonly found in almost every home and business in Rize. It is known that only one of these products has geographical indication registration. Overall, responses from participants indicated that 9 out of 15 geographically indicated products in Rize were mentioned. Additionally, participants provided definitions of geographical indication that were close to the original meaning. These results suggest that the local people in Rize have knowledge about the concept of geographical indication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
