Objective To explore the perioperative situation of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with laparoscopic hepatectomy or open hepatectomy and their effects on liver function. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 85 patients with HCC who visited the Department of Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Shanxi Bethune Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022. According to the surgical methods, the patients were divided into open group (open hepatectomy, n=53) and laparoscopic group (laparoscopic hepatectomy, n=32). Both groups of patients were followed up for one month after discharge. The general information, intraoperative conditions, postoperative complications, and liver function indicators were compared between two groups of patients. Results Compared with the open group, the laparoscopic group had shorter hospitalization time ［(14.19±3.02) d vs (16.36±3.30) d, t=3.03, P＜0.01］, as well as shorter time for the first postoperative anal evacuation ［(2.30±0.77) d vs (2.75±0.49) d, t=3.29, P＜0.01］ and less intraoperative bleeding ［(395.63±70.25) mL vs (440.38±62.42) mL, t=3.05, P＜0.01］. Serum total bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase levels were lower in the laparoscopic group than those in the open group at 3 days postoperatively, and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05). In the 1-month postoperative period, the difference in the overall rate of postoperative complications between the two groups was not statistically significant (15.63% vs 16.98%, χ2=0.92, P=0.34). Conclusion For patients with HCC, the application of laparoscopic hepatectomy is safe and feasible, which can reduce the impact on liver function, shorten hospitalization time, and promote early recovery.

Chemically inert hydrocarbons are the primary feedstocks used in the petrochemical industry and can be converted into more intricate and valuable chemicals. However, two major challenges impede this conversion process: selective activation of C−H bonds in hydrocarbons and systematic functionalization required to synthesize complex structures. To address these issues, we developed a multi‐enzyme cascade conversion system based on internal cofactor and H2O2 recycling to achieve the one‐pot deep conversion from heptane to chiral (S)‐2‐aminoheptanoic acid under mild conditions. First, a hydrogen‐borrowing‐cycle‐based NADH regeneration method and H2O2in situ generation and consumption strategy were applied to realize selective C−H bond oxyfunctionalization, converting heptane into 2‐hydroxyheptanoic acid. Integrating subsequent reductive amination driven by the second hydrogen‐borrowing cycle, (S)‐2‐aminoheptanoic acid was finally accumulated at 4.57 mM with eep>99 %. Hexane, octane, 2‐methylheptane, and butylbenzene were also successfully converted into the corresponding chiral amino acids with eep>99 %. Overall, the conversion system employed internal cofactor and H2O2 recycling, with O2 as the oxidant and ammonium as the amination reagent to fulfill the enzymatic conversion from chemically inert hydrocarbons into chiral amino acids under environmentally friendly conditions, which is a highly challenging transformation in traditional organic synthesis. To realize the simultaneous fermentation of xylose and glucose, ptsG (one of the glucose-PTS genes) was deleted from the engineered ethanologenic Escherichia coli SZ470 (deltapflB, deltafrdABCD, deltaackA, deltaldhA), resulting in loss of glucose effect in the mutant SZ470P (deltaptsG). When tested in 5% mixture of glucose (2.5%) and xylose (2.5%), SZ470P simultaneously used glucose (13 g/L) and xylose (20 g/L) whereas the parent strain SZ470 sequentially used glucose (25 g/L) then xylose (5 g/L). Upon completion of the fermentation, both strains achieved similar product yield of 89%. SZ470P produced 15.01 g/L of ethanol, which was 14.32% higher than that produced by SZ470 (12.86 g/L). Deleting ptsG gene enabled the mutant strain SZ470P to simultaneously use both glucose and xylose and achieve better ethanol production.

Objective: In this study, we constructed a recombinant Escherichia coli strain for the production of high-purity L-lactic acid, using a homoethanol fermenting mutant E. coli SZ470 (deltafrdBC deltaldhA deltaackA deltafocA-pflB deltapdhR: :pflBp6-pflBrbs-aceEF-lpd) as the starting strain., Methods: By using homologous recombination, we deleted the adhE gene from SZ470 to obtain a mutant Escherichia coli JH01, which could not grow under anaerobic conditions. Then we cloned the L-lactate dehydrogenase gene (ldhL) of Pediococcus acidilactici and inserted it into the chromosome of JH01 via electroporation to obtain a recombinant strain Escherichia coli JH12. We evaluated the L-lactic acid production of the recombinant strain in a 15 L fermenter., Results: In 10 L LB medium supplemented with 6% glucose, JH12 maintained maximal cell growth and an efficient L-lactic acid production rate for 36 h. Glucose consumption rate achieved was 1.46 g/(L x h) and L-lactic acid production rate was 1.14 g/(L x h). The results also show that 41.13 g/L lactic acid was produced, achieving a purity of 95.69% (based on total fermentation products). Xylose consumption rate was 0.88 g/(L x h) and L-lactic acid production rate was 0.60 g/(L x h). The production of lactic acid was 34.73 g/L, achieving a purity of 98%. There were no succinic acid and formic acid detected and only little amount of acetic acid generated during the fermentation., Conclusion: We constructed a homolactic acid fermentation strain E. coli JH12, which could efficiently convert glucose and xylose into high-purity L-lactic acid. JH12 could have great potential in industrial fermentation for L-lactic acid production.

Objective: With prognostic factors as assessment standards, the effects of combination of TCM(purification purgation dispersion tonicity) and western medicine treating hepatitis B-related cirrhosis and its complications were assessed., Methods: In this study, study group and control group were divided, the number of each group was 30. In order to keep balance between the two groups, matching control design was adopted with Wang's 8 prognostic factors as matching conditions., Results: In study group, except Hb, TBIL, ALB and PT had statistic difference, and the complications of cirrhosis such as ascites, HEP and UGH were treated with significant effects. Between study group and control group, in all of prognostic factors only TBIL had statistical diffirence., Conclusions: It suggested the effects were significant treating hepatitis B-related cirrhosis and its complications with combination of TCM(purification purgation dispersion tonicity) and western medicine. It also suggested that TCM therapy combining purification, purgation, dispersion and tonicity had significant effects on reducing jaundice.
