In this study, we propose a generalized pseudoclassical theory for the kicked rotor model in an attempt to discern the footprints of the classical dynamics in the deep quantum regime. Compared with the previous pseudoclassical theory that applies only in the neighborhoods of the lowest two quantum resonances, the proposed theory is applicable in the neighborhoods of all quantum resonances in principle by considering the quantum effect of the free rotation at a quantum resonance. In particular, it is confirmed by simulations that the quantum wavepacket dynamics can be successfully forecasted based on the generalized pseudoclassical dynamics, offering an intriguing example where it is feasible to bridge the dynamics in the deep quantum regime to the classical dynamics. The application of the generalized pseudoclassical theory to the $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric kicked rotor is also discussed., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

We prove analytically the ballistic thermal rectification effect (BTRE) in the Corbino disk characterized by an annular shape. We derive the thermal rectification efficiency (RE) and show that it can be expressed as the product of two independent functions, the first dependent on the temperatures of the heat baths and the second on the system's geometry. It follows that a perfect BTRE can be reached with the increase of the ratios of the heat baths' temperatures and of the radius of the outer edge to the inner edge of the disk. We also show that, by introducing a potential barrier into the Corbino disk, the RE can be greatly improved. Quite remarkably, by an appropriate choice of parameters, the thermal diode effect can be reversed. Our results are robust under variation of the Corbino geometry, which may provide a novel and flexible route to manipulate the heat flow at the nanoscale., Comment: 5 pages + supplemental material

The kicked rotor and the kicked top are two paradigms of quantum chaos. The notions of quantum resonance and the pseudoclassical limit, developed in the study of the kicked rotor, have revealed an intriguing and unconventional aspect of classical-quantum correspondence. Here, we show that, by extending these notions to the kicked top, its rich dynamical behavior can be appreciated more thoroughly; of special interest is the entanglement entropy. In particular, the periodic synchronization between systems subject to different kicking strength can be conveniently understood and elaborated from the pseudoclassical perspective. A dynamical model of a highly efficient heat engine is proposed, where an applied temperature difference maintains the motion of particles around the circuit consisting of two asymmetric narrow channels, in one of which the current flows against the applied thermodynamic forces. Numerical simulations and linear-response analysis suggest that, in the absence of frictional losses, the Carnot efficiency can be achieved in the thermodynamic limit., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Most AI projects start with a Python notebook running on a single laptop; however, one usually needs to go through a mountain of pains to scale it to handle larger dataset (for both experimentation and production deployment). These usually entail many manual and error-prone steps for the data scientists to fully take advantage of the available hardware resources (e.g., SIMD instructions, multi-processing, quantization, memory allocation optimization, data partitioning, distributed computing, etc.). To address this challenge, we have open sourced BigDL 2.0 at https://github.com/intel-analytics/BigDL/ under Apache 2.0 license (combining the original BigDL and Analytics Zoo projects); using BigDL 2.0, users can simply build conventional Python notebooks on their laptops (with possible AutoML support), which can then be transparently accelerated on a single node (with up-to 9.6x speedup in our experiments), and seamlessly scaled out to a large cluster (across several hundreds servers in real-world use cases).
