Abstract

We present phase-connected timing ephemerides, polarization pulse profiles and Faraday rotation measurements of 12 pulsars discovered by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS). The observational data for each pulsar span at least one year. Among them, PSR J1840+2843 shows subpulse drifting, and five pulsars are detected to exhibit pulse nulling phenomena. PSR J0640$-$0139 and PSR J2031$-$1254 are isolated MSPs with stable spin-down rates ($\dot{P}$) of $4.8981(6) \times $10$^{-20}$\,s\,s$^{-1}$ and $6.01(2) \times $10$^{-21}$\,s\,s$^{-1}$, respectively. Additionally, one pulsar (PSR J1602$-$0611) is in a neutron star - white dwarf binary system with 18.23-d orbit and a companion of $\leq$ 0.65M$_{\odot}$. PSR J1602$-$0611 has a spin period, companion mass, and orbital eccentricity that are consistent with the theoretical expectations for MSP - Helium white dwarf (He - WD) systems. Therefore, we believe it might be an MSP-He WD binary system. The locations of PSRs J1751$-$0542 and J1840+2843 on the $P-\dot{P}$ diagram are beyond the traditional death line. This indicates that FAST has discovered some low $\dot{E}$ pulsars, contributing new samples for testing pulsar radiation theories. Abstract

We report the phase-connected timing ephemeris, polarization pulse profiles, Faraday rotation measurements, and Rotating-Vector-Model (RVM) fitting results of twelve millisecond pulsars (MSPs) discovered with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in the Commensal radio Astronomy FAST survey (CRAFTS). The timing campaigns were carried out with FAST and Arecibo over three years. Eleven of the twelve pulsars are in neutron star - white dwarf binary systems, with orbital periods between 2.4 and 100 d. Ten of them have spin periods, companion masses, and orbital eccentricities that are consistent with the theoretical expectations for MSP - Helium white dwarf (He WD) systems. The last binary pulsar (PSR J1912$-$0952) has a significantly smaller spin frequency and a smaller companion mass, the latter could be caused by a low orbital inclination for the system. Its orbital period of 29 days is well within the range of orbital periods where some MSP - He WD systems have shown anomalous eccentricities, however, the eccentricity of PSR J1912$-$0952 is typical of what one finds for the remaining MSP - He WD systems., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, MNRAS accepted

Abstract

In this paper, we report the new results of spectroscopic observations of $\gamma$-ray blazar S5 0716+714 from 2019 September to 2020 March with the 2.4 m optical telescope at Lijiang Observatory of Yunnan Observatories. The median cadence of observations is $\sim$ 1 day. During the second observation period (Epoch2), the observational data reveal an extremely bright state and a bluer-when-brighter (BWB) chromatism. The BWB trend of Epoch2 differs significantly from that of the first observation period (Epoch1). A significantly brightness-dependent BWB chromatism emerges in the total data of Epoch1 and Epoch2. The BWB trend becomes weaker towards the brighter states, and likely becomes saturated at the highest state. Based on a log-parabolic function, a power-law of synchrotron peak flux and frequency $\nu_{\rm{p}}$, and a power-law of the curvature of synchrotron spectrum and its $\nu_{\rm{p}}$, simulation well reproduces the brightness-dependent BWB trend of S5 0716+714. The BWB trend is seemingly controlled by the shift of $\nu_{\rm{p}}$ with respect to the observational window, and effectively may be dominated by the variations of electron average energy and magnetic field in emitting region., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in ApJ

Abstract

GRANDMA is an international project that coordinates telescope observations of transient sources with large localization uncertainties. Such sources include gravitational wave events, gamma-ray bursts and neutrino events. GRANDMA currently coordinates 25 telescopes (70 scientists), with the aim of optimizing the imaging strategy to maximize the probability of identifying an optical counterpart of a transient source. Abstract

We present the Global Rapid Advanced Network Devoted to the Multi-messenger Addicts (GRANDMA). The network consists of 21 telescopes with both photometric and spectroscopic facilities. They are connected together thanks to a dedicated infrastructure. The network aims at coordinating the observations of large sky position estimates of transient events to enhance their follow-up and reduce the delay between the initial detection and the optical confirmation. The GRANDMA program mainly focuses on follow-up of gravitational-wave alerts to find and characterise the electromagnetic counterpart during the third observational campaign of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. But it allows for any follow-up of transient alerts involving neutrinos or gamma-ray bursts, even with poor spatial localisation. We present the different facilities, tools, and methods we developed for this network, and show its efficiency using observations of LIGO/Virgo S190425z, a binary neutron star merger candidate. We furthermore report on all GRANDMA follow-up observations performed during the first six months of the LIGO-Virgo observational campaign, and we derive constraints on the kilonova properties assuming that the events' locations were imaged by our telescopes., Comment: 26 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Shrub encroachment onto grassland is a global problem, and thus the relationship between shrub encroachment and grazing disturbance needs to be clarified. In this study, we set up two treatments in China's desert steppe, including no grazing (CK) and heavy grazing (HG). We aimed to analyze the impact of grazing on carbon storage in shrublands and herbaceous communities. We utilized Real-Time Kinematic Positioning (RTK) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to detect and quantify aboveground / belowground biomass of Caragana microphylla. We also measured the biomass of grass. The resulting model for the aboveground biomass of C. microphylla was y = 22.45e4.5562x, where x denotes the canopy area (R² = 0.96). The resulting model for the root biomass of C. microphylla was y = 3×10-5x - 23.618 (R² = 0.99), where x is amplitude. The coarse root / shoot ratios of the shrub were 8.06 and 8.92 in the CK and HG treatments, respectively. Heavy grazing significantly reduced the density and biomass of both C.microphylla and the broader community (shrub + grass) (P<0.05). The carbon stock of vegetation was significantly greater in shrubby grassland than in Stipa breviflora grassland (P<0.05). Our results show that shrub encroachment increased carbon storage and plant diversity in the desert steppe, while, at the same time, heavy grazing affect the shrub encroachment by C. microphylla. Abstract

Lifting is to use lifting equipment to lift components and install them to the designated position. On the main structure, lifting equipment is used to transport the flue and transport the sectional flue to the designated position. Certain deformation will occur during the lifting operation of the flue due to its force condition, but it is not known whether it is elastic deformation or plastic deformation. Therefore, this paper analyzes the stress and strain of the flue during operation by finite element method, and observes and analyzes the influence of plastic deformation on the whole flue.

Abstract

In the process of carrying out the installation of large flue, because the thickness of the flue is thin, it is easy to deform when hoisting with wire rope, and too much deformation will affect the subsequent use of the flue, resulting in waste, so in order to reduce the deformation of the flue, the existing conditions are utilized, and the bracket is added inside the flue to play the role of support, and the deformation of the flue is reduced. Using 3D modeling and numerical simulation software, the flue structure before and after adding supports was modeled and numerically analyzed, and the two simulation results were compared, and the deformation of the flue after adding supports was analyzed to be relatively obvious under the action of hoisting.

Abstract

We propose a dynamic structure of coupled dynamic molecular strings for supercooled small polar molecule liquids and accordingly we obtain the Hamiltonian of the rotational degrees of freedom of the system. From the Hamiltonian, the strongly correlated supercooled polar liquid state is renormalized to a normal superdipole (SD) liquid state. This scenario describes the following main features of the primary or a-relaxation dynamics in supercooled polar liquids: (1) the average relaxation time evolves from a high temperature Arrhenius to a low temperature non-Arrhenius or super-Arrhenius behavior; (2) the relaxation function crosses over from the high temperature exponential to low temperature non-exponential form; and (3) the temperature dependence of the relaxation strength shows non-Curie features. According to the present model, the crossover phenomena of the first two characteristics arise from the transition between the superdipole gas and the superdipole liquid. 14. Comparison of urinary incontinence following three different prostate apex disconnection techniques in transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the incidence of urinary incontinence following transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy with three different prostate apex disconnection techniques: semi-separation, pre-separation, and post-separation. The findings aim to provide references for clinical treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 74 patients treated with transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy for prostatic hyperplasia from April 2022 to March 2023. Complete clinical and follow-up data were available for 52 patients. Clinical and follow-up data were collected for these patients. A comparison was made of urinary incontinence following the three different types of prostate apex disconnection in transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy. RESULTS: In this study, the immediate postoperative urinary incontinence rate for transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy was 9.62% (5/52), the short-term incontinence rate was 11.54% (5/52), and the long-term incontinence rate was 9.62% (5/52). The immediate postoperative incontinence rates for semi-separation, pre-separation, and postseparation were 8.33% (1/12), 8.33% (2/24), and 12.5% (2/16), respectively. The shortterm incontinence rates for semi-separation, pre-separation, and post-separation were 8.33% (1/12), 8.33% (2/24), and 18.75% (3/16), respectively. The long-term incontinence rates for semi-separation, pre-separation, and post-separation were 8.33% (1/12), 8.33% (2/24), and 12.5% (2/16), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of urinary incontinence following transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy was lower with semi-separation and pre-separation compared to post-separation. According to the practical engineering application, three-dimensional modeling of electric hoist and I-beam track is carried out, and the model is simplified to determine the electric hoist load, roller acceleration and speed, and the Abaqus software is used to simulate, analyze the simulation results, observe the actual maximum load under the track stress and strain to meet the requirements, calculate the allowable stress, Observe whether it exceeds the allowable stress and whether plastic deformation occurs. If the numerical simulation results of stress and strain are within the safety requirements, the project can be implemented.

20. Analysis of risk factors for stone remnants and recurrence after lateral decubitus percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the risk factors for stone remnants and recurrence after lateral decubitus percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), providing insights to enhance the stone-free rate and reduce the stone recurrence rate. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 356 patients with renal or upper ureteral stones who underwent lateral decubitus PCNL from January 2015 to August 2022. Among them, 271 patients had complete clinical and follow-up data. General clinical information, perioperative data, and follow-up data were collected. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for stone remnants and recurrence after lateral decubitus PCNL. RESULTS: The stone-free rate after lateral decubitus PCNL was 88.6% (195/271), and the stone recurrence rate within three years was 28.1% (76/271). Stone size (p<0.001) and stone co-infection (p=0.047) were identified as independent risk factors for stone remnants after lateral decubitus PCNL. Multiple stones (p=0.003) were an independent risk factor for stone recurrence after lateral decubitus PCNL. CONCLUSIONS: Stone size and stone co-infection are independent risk factors for stone remnants after lateral decubitus PCNL. 45. Habitat relationships of reptiles in pine beetle disturbed forests of Alabama, U.S.A. with guidelines for a modified drift-fence sampling method

Abstract

Understanding vertebrate habitat relationships is important to promote management strategies for the longterm conservation of many species. Using a modified drift fence method, we sampled reptiles and compared habitat variables within the William B. Bankhead National Forest (BNF) in Alabama, U.S.A from April 2005 to June 2006. We captured 226 individual reptiles representing 19 species during 564 total trap nights. We used canonical correspondence analysis to examine habitat associations for the reptiles sampled and we detected a distinct habitat gradient ranging from sites with greater litter depth and percent canopy cover to more open sites with greater woody, herbaceous, and coarse woody debris (CWD) coverage, and CWD volume. Little brown skinks Scincella lateralis and eastern worm snakes Carphophis a. amoenus were associated with sites with greater litter depth and canopy cover, whereas eastern fence lizards Sceloporus undulatus, copperheads Agkistrodon contortrix, and gray ratsnakes Pantherophis spiloides were associated with sites possessing greater CWD coverage and volume. We found that disturbances due to the southern pine beetle Dendroctonus frontalis were likely important for influencing reptile distributions through the creation of canopy gaps and fallen coarse woody debris. Compared to other studies, our modified drift-fence trap technique was successful for sampling larger snake species (66 snakes in 564 trap nights). We have also provided detailed schematics for constructing drift fence array and box traps used in this study [Current Zoology 56 (4): 411–420, 2010].

Abstract

Most species of the family Cupressaceae are widely distributed throughout China, but Sabina przewalskii f. pendula and Juniperus przewalskii are endemic to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau region. Therefore, they are of great significance to the plateau ecosystem. Sabina przewalskii and J. przewalskii have similar characteristics, but they be distinguished by the presence or absence of drooping branchlets. However, this feature can be difficult to distinguish with the naked eye. In this study, the complete chloroplast (CP) genomes of S. przewalskii and J. przewalskii were determined by highthroughput sequencing, aiming to unveil their differences at the molecular level. The sizes of the CP genomes of J. przewalskii and S. przewalskii are 128,748 bp and 127,315 bp, respectively, sharing the typical structure of conifer species. The GC content of the S. przewalskii plastome is 35.08%, encoding 84 proteins, 32 tRNAs and 4 rRNAs. The GC content of the J. przewalskii CP genome is 34.98%, and one additional rpl32 gene was detected. Phylogenetic analysis proved that J. przewalskii showed a close relationship to Juniperus tibetica and S. przewalskii, both of which belong to the family Cupressaceae. Our results of the plastome of J. przewalskii and S. przewalskii further clarify the evolution of Cupressaceae species. The divergent regions and the repetitive sequences identified could be developed as molecular markers that would benefit breeding and species discrimination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
