ABSTRACT Introduction: This systematic review was conducted to assess whether the use of a platelet aggregate injection with or without associated facial rejuvenation techniques favors facial rejuvenation in adult patients. Methods: Randomized clinical trials that compared the use of techniques for facial rejuvenation alone with the same techniques coupled with the injection of platelet aggregates were searched. The search was performed in indexed databases and in the gray literature. The Cochrane Collaboration bias risk tool was applied to assess the quality of the studies. Results: In total, 7137 articles were identified. Only four studies remained in the qualitative synthesis, and the others were considered as having undefined bias risk in the key domains. Conclusion: There are few studies in the literature that compare the use of platelet aggregates in facial rejuvenation and those that are available have a risk of “undefined” or “high” bias. There is a need for more well-designed clinical studies comparing the use of platelet aggregate injection with or without associated facial rejuvenation techniques.

META-analysis ,RANDOM effects model ,GREY literature - Abstract
Purpose: To compare the retention rates of non-carious cervical restorations (NCCLs) constructed using the sandwich technique (a lining of glass-ionomer cement [GIC] or resin-modified glass-ionomer cement [RMGIC] and composite resin [CR]) with CR-only restorations. Materials and Methods: The search was performed in various databases, including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Gray literature was inspected, as were ongoing and unpublished abstracts from the IADR (1990-2017). Study quality was evaluated using the Cochrane Collaboration bias risk tool. Data from primary and secondary outcomes were meta-analyzed at 1-, 2- and 3-year follow-ups using the random effects model. The quality of the body of evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach. Results: Initially, a total of 3645 articles were selected. After selection by titles, abstracts, and full texts, 6 articles were retrieved, but three were follow-ups of the same RCT. Therefore, a total of four studies remained for analysis. All studies were at unclear risk for bias. Among all outcomes, only loss of retention was lower for the sandwich technique at the 3-year follow-up (risk ratio [RR]: 7.5; 95% CI: 2.1 to 27.2; p = 0.002). Conclusions: Based on the limited number of available studies, higher retention rates in NCCL restorations were observed with the sandwich technique compared to CR-only restorations at the 3-year follow-up. Secondary outcomes were not influenced by the restorative technique. Except for retention rates, which were of moderate quality, the evidence quality of all secondary outcomes was low. A systematic review was performed to assess the reduction of intracanal microorganisms in teeth with pulp necrosis using photodynamic therapy (PDT) compared to calcium hydroxide (CH). The research sought randomized clinical trials that used PDT to assist in intracanal disinfection in teeth with pulp necrosis compared with the use of CH. The search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, Cochrane Library and gray literature. IADR abstracts, records of unpublished essays, dissertations and theses were also searched. The Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Analysis Tool was applied to assess the quality of the studies. 121 articles were identified. Only 5 studies remained in the qualitative synthesis, with one being considered to have “low” risk of bias and 4 considered to have an “undefined” risk of bias in the key domains. The 5 articles were included in the meta-analysis. The reduction of microorganisms in teeth with pulp necrosis comparing PDT to CH was 0.01 (confidence interval [CI] = -0.04 to 0.07, p = 0.59). This result demonstrates that there was no difference between the therapies. It can be concluded that there was no difference between the use of PDT or CH in the intracanal disinfection of teeth with pulp necrosis. A busca foi realizada no PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, Cochrane Library e literatura cinzenta.

CLINICAL trials ,META-analysis ,SURFACE roughness ,MATERIALS ,DISCOLORATION - Abstract
Purpose: To compare the the loss of retention and color match of glass-ionomer cements (GIC) and resin-based composites (RC) in noncarious cervical lesions. Other secondary outcomes (surface texture, marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, and secondary caries) were evaluated in a systematic review and meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, and Cochrane. We included only randomized clinical trials. The quality of the evidence for each outcome was assessed using the GRADE tool. Results: A total of 1530 articles were identified, but only 19 reports remained for analysis, all of which were judged to possess “unclear” risk of bias. GIC showed higher retention rates in all follow-ups (1 to 3 years, p < 0.0001; at 5 years, p < 0.00001). No difference was observed for marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation and secondary caries in all follow-ups (p > 0.05). RC showed better color match than GIC only at 2 years (p = 0.03). Higher roughness was observed in GIC in all follow-ups (at 1 year p = 0.0003; at 3 years p = 0.0004). Quality of evidence was graded as moderate or low due to unclear risk of bias and imprecision in some outcomes. Conclusion: The loss of retention of RMGIC/GIC was inferior to that of RC, but a higher roughness was observed in the RMGIC/GIC when compared to RC in all follow-ups of the clinical studies evaluated. In addition, the color match was better with RC only in the 2-year follow-up when compared to GIC. The quality of evidence was judged as moderate to low in these two outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MEDICAL personnel ,HEPATITIS B vaccines ,GUIDELINES ,HEPATITIS B virus ,LIVER failure - Abstract
Objectives: Nowadays, it is believed that more than 240 million people worldwide are infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV), associated with irreversible health-related consequences, represented by hepatic failure, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma, and already are ranked as 15th cause of human death around the world. Methods: A systematic review and a meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination and immunization on health professionals against HBV. The review was registered at the PROSPERO database (CRD42017075643). A search for cross-sectional studies was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, Cochrane Library, and in the gray literature. The Effective Public Health Practice Project Modified Scale was used to evaluate the internal quality of the studies included. Results: A total of 1865 articles were identified after the removal of duplicates. Of these, 790 studies remained after screening the titles and abstracts. Finally, ten studies remained after full-text reading for qualitative analysis, all of which were used in the meta-analysis. A significant difference was found in the vaccine protocol for health professionals immunized against hepatitis B, compared to those not immunized. The risk ratio was 7.37 (95% confidence interval = 3.92–13.83; P < 0.00001). Conclusion: This study showed that the vaccine protocol is effective in immunizing health professionals against hepatitis B. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENETIC polymorphisms ,TEMPOROMANDIBULAR disorders ,TRANSFERASES ,CATECHOL-O-methyltransferase gene - Abstract
Background: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a condition, in which multiple factors act synergistically to determine the outcome of the disorder. Aim: A systematic review and meta‐analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between genetic polymorphisms in catechol‐O‐methyltransferase (COMT) and TMD. Design: Observational studies that investigated this association were included. The risk of bias and study quality were evaluated according to the Newcastle‐Ottawa tool. The meta‐analysis was performed for each polymorphism associated with TMD signs and symptoms. Results: A total of 1903 articles were identified. Ten remained in the qualitative analysis: six were classified as low risk of bias and four with moderate risk of bias, and three were included in the meta‐analysis. The polymorphism rs6269, in the genotypic model (0.65; CI = 0.44‐0.97; P =.04) and in the allelic model (0.73; CI = 0.54‐0.98; P =.04), was associated with myofascial pain. The rs9332377 was associated with myofascial pain in the genotypic model (2.69; CI = 1.51‐4.76; P =.0007) and in the allelic model (1.46; CI = 1.01‐2.13; P =.05) and with painful TMD in the genotypic model (2.08; CI = 1.27‐3.40; P =.004) and in the allelic model (1.34 CI = 0.98‐1.82; P =.06). Conclusion: The polymorphisms in COMT were significantly associated with TMD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Material and Methods: This study was designed as a split mouth randomized bind clinical trial. Thirty-two young subjects (17.4 ± 5.6) of both genders were selected according to the inclusion criteria: moderate intellectual disability, minimum of 16 teeth, at least one tooth in each sextant with probing depth ≥ 4 mm. Prior periodontal treatment, the index of plaque, marginal bleeding, probing pocket depth and bleeding were obtained. The experimental gel tested was composed of 5% prilocaine/lidocaine, microemulsion thermosensitive liposomal phospholipid gel. It was compared to a commercially available gel Oraqix (5% prilocaine/lidocaine-thermosensitive gel). The negative controls for both gels were periodontal treatment without anesthesia and the rescue drug used was EMLA cream (5% prilocaine/lidocaine), applied in the periodontal pocket if there was discomfort during scaling and root planning (SRP). The parameters used to assess pain intensity and dental anxiety during periodontal treatment were: Hannallah pain scale; Wong-Baker faces pain rating scale and 11-point numerical rating scale, blood pressure and oxygen saturation. All data were compared with ANOVA and chi-square tests. Results: Hannallah pain scale showed significant difference (p0.05). The anesthetic gel preference between male and female showed significant difference (p0,05).

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of tooth brushing supervision in one or more sessions on dental plaque removal and toothbrush wear. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 3- to 5-year-old children received new toothbrushes and attended a puppet theater about oral health. Forty-nine children were randomly selected and divided into 3 groups (GI=20; GII=14; GIII=14). Fones' brushing method was demonstrated to the GI and GII groups to evaluate the following: the professional direct supervision and tooth brushing training in five sessions (GI), the professional direct supervision and a one-training session (GII) and the puppet theater influence only (GIII-control group). The dental plaque index (IPL) was recorded at baseline (T0), after 24 days (T1) and after 46 days (T2) and toothbrush wear (ID) was recorded on T1 and T2. The Kruskal-Wallis test and the Friedman test (IPL), as well as the one-way ANOVA and the paired Student's t-test (ID) (p

Purpose: Discomfort during rubber dam clamp often occurs in pediatric dentistry. The purpose of this randomized, triple-blind, clinical trial was to evaluate the effect of pain reduction using a new topical liposomal thermo-sensitive gel (TLTG) or a placebo gel during rubber dam clamp isolation for sealants in children. Methods: Eighty-one children (eight to 12 years old) had LTSG or the placebo gel with random assignment placed around the gingival tissue of their permanent mandibular first molars. A clamp was placed after two minutes on the teeth, and intensity of pain was registered using a Wong-Baker FACES scale and an 11-point numerical scale. The data were evaluated using McNemar's test and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: The odds ratio for pain (OR equals 0.7; 95 percent confidence interval equals 0.3 to 1.8) was not statistically significant (P=0.52). However, there was a small difference in the pain intensity between liposomal and placebo groups for both scales (P<0.05). Conclusion: The liposomal thermo-sensitive anesthetic gel may reduce, to a small extent, the pain intensity in children submitted to rubber dam isolation before resin sealant placement. Objectives: A systematic review of clinical studies to evaluate the frequency of micronuclei in the oral mucosa of smokers and non-smokers in adult patients was performed. Materials and methods: A comprehensive search was carried out on MEDLINE via PubMeb, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, and Cochrane Library and SIGLE without restrictions. Dissertations and thesis were searched using the ProQuest Dissertations and Periodicos Capes Thesis Databases. We included only cross-sectional clinical trials that compared the frequency of micronuclei in the oral mucosa of smokers and non-smokers in adult patients. Data: After the removal of duplicates, 1338 articles were identified. After title and abstract screening, 35 studies remained. Eighteen studies were further excluded, whereas 17 studies remained for qualitative analysis and 16 for the meta-analysis of the primary and secondary outcomes. A significant difference in the frequency of micronuclei in smokers when compared to non-smokers was observed in the present study. Conclusions: Despite the high variation in the methodology of the assessed studies, this study showed a higher frequency of micronuclei in exfoliated cells of smokers compared to non-smokers. Clinical significance: The use of tobacco is associated with cytotoxic and genotoxic effects because a higher frequency of micronuclei in exfoliated cells of smokers was observed. Background: The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the frequency of micronuclei or other DNA damage in the oral mucosa of adults that have smokeless tobacco habits compared to adults that not have these habits. Material and Methods: We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO and Cochrane Library and SIGLE. We also surveyed gray literature. We included only clinical trials that compare the frequency of micronuclei or other DNA damage in the oral mucosa of adults that have smokeless tobacco habits compared to adults that not have these habits. Quality assessments of the selected trials were evaluated by two independent reviewers, using the Effective Public Health Practice Project - (EPHPP) with modifications. Results: After the database screening and removal of duplicates, 2574 studies were identified. After title screening, 172 studies remained, and this number was reduced to 25 after careful examination of the abstracts. The standardized mean difference of the frequency of micronuclei between groups was 1.88, with a 95% confidence interval of 1.40 to 2.36 (p < 0.00001). In all analyses heterogeneity was detected. Conclusions: Despite the heterogeneity of studies, the frequency of micronuclei was significant bigger in adults who have the smokeless tobacco habit when compared to those not have this habit. The same occurred with the frequency of binucleated cells, karyolisis and karyorrhexis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to verify the influence of the sense of coherence (SOC) on the oral health condition of adults and the elderly through a systematic review of the literature. The PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Latin American Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences - Literatura Latino-Americana do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Brazilian Dentistry Bibliography - Bibliografia Brasileira de Odontologia (BBO), Cochrane and gray literature were consulted. Observational studies involving only adult and elderly patients who had their oral health condition assessed as an outcome were included. Studies that evaluated self-reported conditions, without possibility of dissociation of oral conditions, were also excluded, as well as pilot studies, literature reviews, case reports and case series. The quality of the research was assessed using the Downs and Black checklist criteria, assigning scores from 0 to 18 to them, with higher values indicating a lower risk of bias. Of a total of 642 studies identified, 12 remained after the eligibility criteria were adopted. The analysis of the quality of the studies, regarding the risk of bias, revealed that two were classified as low, six as uncertain, and four as high. In general, the domains with the worst evaluations were internal validity (confounding) and internal validity (bias). The main results found indicated a possible relationship between more significant values of SOC with better oral health conditions. Significant associations between SOC, tooth decay, periodontal conditions and number of teeth have been shown in some research. However, the divergence of methods and study outcomes made it impossible to meta-analyze and confirm these associations. Therefore, it is suggested to conduct new research that is better designed to allow verification of this proposal.

A busca foi realizada no PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, Cochrane Library e literatura cinzenta. Introduction: The treatment of periodontitis aims to prevent the progression of the disease with the intention of reducing the risk of tooth loss, minimizing symptoms and possibly restoring lost periodontal tissue. Objective: To assess whether treatment with total mouth disinfection compared (FMS) to scaling and root planing by quadrant (QSRP) is more effective in improving clinical parameters in patients with periodontitis, through a systematic review with meta-analysis. Methodology: The research sought randomized clinical trials that compared total mouth disinfection with scaling and root planning by quadrant in improving clinical parameters in patients with periodontitis. The search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, Cochrane Library and gray literature. IADR abstracts, records of unpublished essays, dissertations and theses were also researched. The “Cochrane Collaboration” risk-bias tool was applied to assess the quality of the studies. Results: 2202 articles were identified. Only 7 studies remained in the qualitative synthesis, 2 of which were considered “low” risk of bias, 4 considered to be “undefined” risk of bias and 3 considered “high” risk of bias. Only articles from which it was possible to extract all information were included in the meta-analysis. Regarding the clinical parameters, superiority was observed for the treatment with FMS at the depth of drilling with 3 months of follow-up compared to the Q-RP (-0.22 confidence intervals [CI] = -0.36 to - 0.08, p = 0.002. With 6 months of follow-up, a difference was observed between treatments in bleeding at probing with -0.21 confidence interval [CI] = -0.41 to -0.01, p = 0.04), the same occurred with 3 months of monitoring for the plaque index. with -0.20 (confidence interval [CI] = -0.38 to -0.02, p = 0.03). Conclusion: Comparisons of total mouth disinfection versus Q-SRP showed that FMD and FMS showed additional clinical benefits over Q-SRP in data such as reduced pouch, bleeding rate on probing and plaque quantity. In addition, it took a reduced total time to complete treatment in one visit than during a series of consultations such as conventional periodontal treatment, however more research is needed on the topic.

To evaluate, through two systematic reviews, the injection of botulinum toxin to reduce the intensity of myofascial pain, as well as the injection of platelet aggregates in facial rejuvenation in adult patients. In manuscript 1, the research sought studies that compared the use of botulinum toxin with other therapeutic techniques to reduce the intensity of myofascial pain. The searches were performed in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs / BBO and Gray Literature. IADR abstracts, records of unpublished essays, dissertations and theses were also researched. The “Cochrane Collaboration” risk-bias tool was applied to assess the quality of the studies. A total of 4372 studies were identified, nine (9) remained in a qualitative study, eight (8) of these studies were considered to have an "unclear" risk of bias and only one study had a "low" risk of bias in the main domains. Only two (2) studies presented similar data to be included in the meta-analysis. Both studies evaluated pain relief using botulinum toxin (BTX-A) versus saline. In the study that compared botulinum toxin with other treatments, a meta-analysis was carried out, which showed that, after 3 months of follow-up, pain relief was 15.70 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0, 80 to 30.61; p = 0.04). It was concluded that the BTX-A injection showed a reduction in the intensity of myofascial pain compared to saline in adults after 3 months, however more well-designed studies should be performed to verify the reduction of myofascial pain with the use of BTX - THE. In manuscript 2, the research sought randomized clinical trials that compared the use of platelet-rich plasma injection alone or associated with other facial rejuvenation techniques. The search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs / BBO and Gray Literature. IADR abstracts, records of unpublished essays, dissertations and theses were also researched. The “Cochrane Collaboration” riskbias tool was applied to assess the quality of the studies. 7137 articles were identified. Only four (4) studies remained in the qualitative synthesis, only one study had a low risk of bias and the others were considered to have an undefined risk of bias in the key domains. In conclusion, there are few studies in the literature that compare the use of platelet aggregates in facial rejuvenation and those that are available have a risk of "undefined" or "high" bias. There is a need for further clinical studies to compare the use of platelet aggregate injection associated or not with facial rejuvenation techniques.

Less invasive approaches to treating caries disease have been proposed, such as atraumatic restorative treatment (ART). However, barriers to acceptance of the technique have been identified, usually linked to the lack of professional training. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the influence of different teaching strategies in thequalification and training of dental academics for performing atraumatic restorations (RAs). For that, a self-controlled experimental study was drawn up, with a sample composed of 2nd year undergraduate dentistry students from the Ponta Grossa State University who had never come into contact with the technique. The research subjects received training through different pedagogical strategies, in the following order: expository-dialogue class, socialized-individualized teaching with a booklet developed for this purpose and a practical class (workshop). The strategies were evaluated through a pre-tested questionnaire, developed to detect changes in learning along the stages from 4 domains: general concepts, clinical protocol, indications and instrumental / materials. The questionnaire was applied at the initial moment and 30 days after each pedagogical intervention. At the same time, focus groups were held to know the perception of the research subjects regarding the method. The qualitative data obtained were presented through descriptive statistics; comparisons between the interventions were performed using the Kruskall-Wallis test (post Tukey test) with a significance level of 5%. The qualitative data were transcribed and verified the patterns and tendencies of the conceptions manifested by the subjects. The results showed a better assimilation of the contents after the practical class in all domains, in indexes above 80%. However, there were concepts well assimilated shortly after the first intervention, as the concept of the treatment was minimally invasive, the indication for restoration of class I cavities and the use of dentine spoons to remove the carious tissue. Topics that were not well assimilated immediately obtained improvement after the socializedindividualizing strategy such as the good acceptance of the technique between patients and the use of high viscosity glass ionomer cement. The research subjects affirmed that the practical class was the strategy that most stimulated them, nevertheless they see the other two interventions as fundamental for their learning. It is concluded that the three pedagogical strategies tested proved effective for the qualification of dental academics to perform atraumatic restorations; theoretical concepts tend to be well assimilated in expository-dialogue classes, however, questions of a more practical nature such as indications, instrumental / material and technical protocol need methodological approaches that stimulate the active participation of academics, such as socialized-individualizing teaching and practical classes; the best situation achieved in the training of academics was the association of different pedagogical methods.

- Abstract
Background: The clinical performance of new restorative materials must be evaluated before recommending its use in primary teeth., Aim: This randomized clinical trial evaluated the survival rates of restorations in single and occluso-proximal cavities of primary teeth performed with a new dual-cure resin-based material in comparison with a resin-modified glass ionomer cement after 12 months of follow-up., Materials and Methods: A total of 107 restorations were placed in 27 children by one experienced pediatric dentist. Two materials were tested: Vitremer and a dual-cure resin-based material with (CentionN+Adh) and without (Cention N-Adh) adhesive system application. Two calibrated and blinded examiners evaluated the restorations at 3, 6, and 12-month. The longevity of the restorations was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Log-rank test (α = 5%)., Results: The overall survival rates after 12-month were 81.9% for Vitremer, 70.4% for Cention N+Adh, and 66.7% for Cention N-Adh, which had the poorer performance (HR = 0.54; 95% CI= 0.31-0.95; p = 0.031). When considering the type of the cavities, the difference was significant only for occluso-proximal cavities when Cention N-Adh was used (HR = 0.46; CI = 0.26-0.81; p = 0.008)., Conclusion: All evaluated materials are suitable for restoring occlusal cavities after selective caries removal. However, Cention N needs to be used with adhesive in occluso-proximal cavities., Clinical Significance: Cention-N can be used for deciduous teeth restorations, with similar longevity rates as resin modified glass ionomer cements.Trial registration number RBR-9nqszr., How to Cite This Article: da Cunha CM, Wambier LM, Paris Matos TD, et al . - Abstract
Purpose: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to compare the retention rates of 3-step etch-and-rinse (3ER) adhesives with 1-step self-etch (1SE) adhesives in noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs). The secondary outcomes were marginal integrity and marginal discoloration., Materials and Methods: Only randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that compared 1SE with 3ER in NCCLs were included. Controlled vocabulary and keywords were combined in the search strategy for PubMed/Medline, LILACS, BBO, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, grey literature, and IADR abstracts (1990-2018). The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool (RoB) was applied to eligible studies. Meta-analyses were conducted for retention rate and secondary outcomes at different follow-up times, using the random effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed with the Cochran Q test and I2 statistics. The GRADE approach was used to assess the quality of the evidence., Results: After the removal of duplicates, title and abstract screening, 18 studies remained. Of these, 15 studies were used for meta-analysis. Fourteen out of these 15 were judged at "unclear" risk and 1 at "low" risk of bias. No significant differences between groups were observed in the different follow-up periods for retention rates 12 to 24 months (p = 0.66), 24 to 36 months (p = 0.21) and 60 months (p = 0.96). A significant difference in marginal integrity was found at 12 to 24 months (p = 0.04) and in marginal discoloration at 12 to 24 months (p = 0.003)., Conclusion: There is no evidence that 3-step ER adhesives have better retention rates than 1-step SE adhesives in NCCLs.

- Abstract
Objectives: Nowadays, it is believed that more than 240 million people worldwide are infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV), associated with irreversible health-related consequences, represented by hepatic failure, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma, and already are ranked as 15
th cause of human death around the world., Methods: A systematic review and a meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination and immunization on health professionals against HBV. The review was registered at the PROSPERO database (CRD42017075643). A search for cross-sectional studies was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, BBO, Cochrane Library, and in the gray literature. The Effective Public Health Practice Project Modified Scale was used to evaluate the internal quality of the studies included., Results: A total of 1865 articles were identified after the removal of duplicates. The risk ratio was 7.37 (95% confidence interval = 3.92-13.83; P < 0.00001)., Conclusion: This study showed that the vaccine protocol is effective in immunizing health professionals against hepatitis B., (Copyright: © International Journal of Health Sciences.)- Published

- Abstract
Purpose: To compare the retention rates of non-carious cervical restorations (NCCLs) constructed using the sandwich technique (a lining of glass-ionomer cement [GIC] or resin-modified glass-ionomer cement [RMGIC] and composite resin [CR]) with CR-only restorations., Materials and Methods: The search was performed in various databases, including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The quality of the body of evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach., Results: Initially, a total of 3645 articles were selected. After selection by titles, abstracts, and full texts, 6 articles were retrieved, but three were follow-ups of the same RCT. Therefore, a total of four studies remained for analysis. All studies were at unclear risk for bias. Among all outcomes, only loss of retention was lower for the sandwich technique at the 3-year follow-up (risk ratio [RR]: 7.5; 95% CI: 2.1 to 27.2; p = 0.002)., Conclusions: Based on the limited number of available studies, higher retention rates in NCCL restorations were observed with the sandwich technique compared to CR-only restorations at the 3-year follow-up. Secondary outcomes were not influenced by the restorative technique. Except for retention rates, which were of moderate quality, the evidence quality of all secondary outcomes was low.
