In the beginning years of the evolution of the semantic web and linked data, ontology engineering made steady progressthrough academic efforts to support the semantic web stack. The admission of Ontology and Graphsin the “hype cycle” by Gartner’s report in 2020 not only indicated its closeness to maturity but also highlighted that Ontology is finally being accepted as a practical solution for many ICT applications. The Technical Group for ICT under the European Observatory for Standardisation (EUOS) formed a special interest group comprising domain experts, ontologists, and researchers from academia and industry with the aim of surveying the landscape of Ontology standards. After months of effort, StandICT.eu 2026 community is delighted to present this report, which contains a set of carefully curated ontologies based on their relevance to ICT domains and vertical sectors, as well as their maturity and prominence for representing of linked data in the semantic web.One of the primary motivations of this report is therefore to present the landscape of ontology coverage in various domains and sectors. On 21 February 2023, SWForum.eu organised its second webinar focussing on “Software Technologies and Standards: Enabling Interoperability and Innovation.” In this webinar, we invited four EU-funded projects namely: CHARITY, MEDINA, EUCloudEdgeIot and HSbooster.eu, represented by experts who provided an overview and key insights on how software technologies and standards are enabling interoperability and innovation in Europe. This report summarizes the key insights and recommendations discussed during the webinar.

Sustainability and digitization of industry and market are two major challenges in these times, driven in a variety of places. The upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) addresses both. Regarding this, StandICT.eu was asked by the European Commission to prepare a landscape of standards in view of the need of Digital Product Passports (DPP). So a Technical Working Group Digital Product Passport (TWG DPP) was established in September 2022. The created list covers now more than 200 open standards of international standards development organisations, which are made available or will be made available to the general public and are developed (or approved) and maintained via a collaborative and consensus driven process. On the 21st of February, the SWForum.eu projectorganiseda 90-minute webinar "Software Technologies and Standards: Enabling Interoperability and Innovation" to present practical examples of standards at work in applications ranging from virtual and augmented reality to autonomous mission-critical components and raise awareness of programmes and assistance made available to the software community by the European Commission for effective use of standards and participation in the standardisation process. The webinar is divided into three main parts. The first introductory part illustrates the open source software and standardisation strategy to be presented by Luis Carlos Busquets Perez, EU Programme Officer in DG Connect E2. The second part involves EU-funded projects, such as CHARITY, MEDINA and EUCloudEdgeIoT, which showcasehow they are leveraging standards in software development initiatives. In addition, HSbooster.eu presentedthe standardisation resources available to researchers and projects. The final session involves panellists discussing how software technologies and standards are enabling interoperability and innovation to strengthen the EU's global competitiveness.

This report entitled: “Future Standardisation Education Reflections and Recommendations“ is an outcome of the StandICT.eu online event which took place on the 18th January 2023, which organised this intense 3 hour workshop at a crucial time when the European Green Deal & the New Industrial Strategy for Europe as well as the geopolitical environment call for a strong European presence in international standardisation development. Building up a strong and sustainable pool of European standardisation competent professionals who are ready to engage in European and International Standardisation is crucial. The report showcases some of the achievements the project has produced thanks to its funded fellows within the various technological domains where standards are critical including: Digital Twins, Blockchain & DLT, 5G, Digital Product Passport, Artificial Intelligence, Fintech and RegTech, Spatial Computing and Geospatial Standards, eHealth. The results from these domain areas are being picked up in the efforts in defining multiple landscape and gap analysis reports, StandICT.eu delivers, through the work within the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) targeted around specific, important technologies supporting the EU Green Deal and the Industrial Strategy for Europe. The report outlines some of the key opportunities and activities organisations are working on to acknowledge what is happening in Europe, appreciate the benefits of standardisation and to make Europe’s voice heard in international standardisation efforts. The report considers this approach, discusses what is happening already in Europe and provides some recommendations for future priorities within the Standardisation and education space. &nbsp

Standards are at the cornerstone to build a resilient European Single Market enabling companies to demonstrate compliance with EU regulations, creating a level playing field for businesses and increasing consumer confidence. Transferring R&I results to a standards-setting organisation further extends exploitation by spurring innovation. This ensures the uptake and wider use of new technologies and inventions, guaranteeing interoperability and compatibility, providing quality and safety levels, and codifying knowledge in clear and specific ways. This Webinar featured the entire HSbooster.eu Consortium and presented the unique opportunity offered by the newly launched initiative, whose key goal is to provide professional consultancy services to guide and support beneficiaries and consortia of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe R&I projects to make sure they take the right strategic approach and contribute efficiently to the Standardisation process in critical areas envisaged in the recently issued European Standardisation Strategy. This report provides an immersion to user empowered outcomes of the StandICT.eu 2023 Open Call #1 from the perspective of fellows that were selected and funded in this call. Our team is proud to present the first series of StandICT.eu 2023 success stories of the funded fellowships detailing the addressed standards and landscapes, how these will fill in the identified gaps as well as impact the related stakeholders and society. Standardisation plays a vital role in creating a fair market-based competition and help ensure the interoperability of complementary products and services. Standards reduce costs, improve safety, and enhance overall competition. Their critical action in protecting health, safety, security, and the environment, make standards important to the public and consumers as well. One of the key-purposes of StandICT.eu 2023 is to support the activity of competent European ICT experts to contribute to the modernisation and consolidation of the European standardisation system, ensuring it is better oriented towards meeting the EU’s main interests, policy priorities, core principles and values, notably towards a speedy and seamless green, digital and industrial transition, in a timely manner (as expected in the future “European Standardisation Strategy Roadmap”1). The primary purpose of this document is to share with you the results attained through the work carried out by the funded expert, and to showcase the most relevant outcomes, creating awareness of the potential impact and repercussions of such impact on commerce, industry, governmental policies and strategies and the society as a whole. This Open Call is the first one of a series from 10 StandICT.eu 2023 Open Calls, and each call will have a dedicated impact report with the goal to share the timely key findings, contributions, and observations with StandICT.eu community, the European Commission, the Multi-Stakeholder Platform, the SDOS, and even beyond with all interested actors of our ever-growing StandICT.eu 2023 community. It should be noted that at the time of writing a few of the fellowships funded under the first Open Call are still underway. In this report, firstly, the Open Call #1 is presented with key facts and figures, then the fellowship outcomes are presented in the targeted technology areas addressed by the OC #1 fellows
