Abstract

An HD Radio broadcast signal is uniquely defined by its service mode. Several service modes have been available to AM and FM broadcasters for nearly two decades. Only recently have various HD Radio stakeholders begun requesting additional backward-compatible options for improved robustness and capacity. Even non-backward-compatible improvements could be introduced for all-digital, international, and new North American data applications. This paper proposes a new set of service modes developed in response to these emerging market demands and opportunities. To enhance flexibility, each new service mode may employ one of three quadrature amplitude modulation formats, allowing broadcasters to trade robustness for capacity. Since all new service modes feature frequency diversity between lower and upper sidebands, as well as time diversity between main and backup components, they are collectively referred to as lower-upper-main-backup (LUMB) service modes. This multidimensional diversity scheme offers fast tuning and enhances signal robustness in the presence of selective fading, interference, blockages, and other channel outages.

Abstract

The Gamma-ray Large Area Space telescope (GLAST) is a gamma-ray satellite scheduled for launch in 2008. Before the assembly of the Tracker subsystem of the Large Area Telescope (LAT) science instrument of GLAST, every component (tray) and module (tower) has been subjected to extensive ground testing required to ensure successful launch and on-orbit operation. This paper describes the sequence and results of the environmental tests performed on an engineering model and all the flight hardware of the GLAST LAT Tracker. Environmental tests include vibration testing, thermal cycles and thermal-vacuum cycles of every tray and tower as well as the verification of their electrical performance.

Abstract

The Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Large Area Telescope (LAT) is a pair-production high-energy (>20 MeV) gamma-ray telescope being built by an international partnership of astrophysicists and particle physicists for a satellite launch in 2006, designed to study a wide variety of high-energy astrophysical phenomena. As part of the development effort, the collaboration has built a Balloon Flight Engineering Model (BFEM) for flight on a high-altitude scientific balloon. The BFEM is approximately the size of one of the 16 GLAST-LAT towers and contains all the components of the full instrument: plastic scintillator anticoincidence system (ACD), high-Z foil/Si strip pair-conversion tracker (TKR), CsI hodoscopic calorimeter (CAL), triggering and data acquisition electronics (DAQ), commanding system, power distribution, telemetry, real-time data display, and ground data processing system. Abstract

The position- and energy-sensitive primary particle detectors of a nanodosimetry system are described. They consist of a telescope of silicon strip detectors, which allow the determination of the particle's position from the hit strip address and its energy from the specific energy loss. In our implementation, the energy loss is measured through the time over threshold (TOT). When testing the performance of a single silicon strip detector, it was found that between the energies of 20 and 100 MeV, primary particle energy could be determined to an accuracy of 15%, decreasing to 25% at 250 MeV Below 20 MeV, we observed TOT saturation. It is concluded that the performance of the tested silicon strip detector is suitable for application in nanodosimetry.

Abstract

The silicon tracker for the engineering model of the GLAST Large Area Telescope (LAT) to date represents the largest surface of silicon microstrip detectors assembled in a tracker (2.7 m 2 ). It demonstrates the feasibility of employing this technology for satellite based experiments, in which large effective areas and high reliability are required. This note gives an overview of the assembly of this silicon tracker and discusses in detail studies performed to track quality assurance: leakage current, mechanical alignment and production yields.

Abstract

We present measurements of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurement uses a data sample of 23x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BbarB decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we find events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a CP eigenstate containing charmonium and the flavor of the other neutral B meson is determined from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the standard model is proportional to sin2beta, is derived from the decay time distributions in such events. The result is sin2beta = 0.34+/-0.20 (stat)+/-0.05 (syst).

Abstract

The silicon tracker for the engineering model of the GLAST Large Area Telescope(LAT) has at least two unique features: it employs self triggering readout electronics, dissipating less than 200 mu-W per channel and to date represents the largest surface of silicon microstrip detectors assembled in a tracker (2.7 m{sup 2}). It demonstrates the feasibility of employing this technology for satellite based experiments, in which low power consumption, large effective areas and high reliability are required. This note describes the construction of this silicon tracker, which was installed in a beam test of positrons, hadrons and tagged photons at SLAC in December of 1999 and January of 2000.

Abstract

We have irradiated p-on-n silicon microstrip detectors of initial bulk resistivity between 0.2 and 2.7 k/spl Omega/-cm with 55 MeV protons to fluences of 0.8, 2.2 and 11/spl times/10/sup 13/ p/cm/sup 2/ (equivalent to twice the fluence in high energy protons), and have measured the depletion voltage before and after irradiation using C-V methods. In addition, we have measured the charge collection of minimum ionization on a single strip with a fast amplifier as a function of bias voltage. We compare the depletion voltage deduced from both methods for samples with different initial resistivities.

Abstract

We present the search for new detector materials, which would replace silicon as the bulk material in strip detectors for application in high radiation fields. The investigation focuses on SiC, a material with higher bandgap and thus less degradation after irradiation when compared with silicon. Both static properties like the capacitance and leakage currents and dynamic measurements of the charge collection with low-noise amplifiers are presented.

Abstract

A large area (63.6 mm/spl times/64 mm) n-on-n silicon strip detector was fabricated, implementing various p-stop structures in the n-side. The detectors were characterized in laboratory and in beam tests. The inter-strip capacitance showed features in which the individual p-stop structure had the longest tail toward saturation. The beam tests showed other p-stop structures collected more charge in the mid-strip region than the individual p-stop structure. We have irradiated an n-side silicon microstrip detector to an equivalent high energy fluence of 1/spl times/10/sup 15/ p cm/sup -2/ using 55 MeV protons. We determined the median pulse height to be 0.7 fC at a bias voltage of 180 V, and deduced a depletion region of about 80 /spl mu/m.

Abstract

This paper discusses the behaviour of a prototype rad-hard version of the chip developed for the readout of the BaBar silicon vertex tracker. A previous version of the chip, implemented in the 0.8 μm HP rad-soft version has been thoroughly tested in the recent times. It featured outstanding noise characteristics and showed that the specifications assumed as target for the tracker readout were met to a very good extent. The next step was the realization of a chip prototype in the rad-hard process that will be employed in the actual chip production. Such a prototype is structurally and functionally identical to its rad-soft predecessor. However, the process parameters being different, and not fully mastered at the time of design, some deviations in the behaviour were to be expected. The reasons for such deviations have been identified and some of them were removed by acting on the points that were left accessible on the chip. Other required small circuit modifications that will not affect the production schedule. The tests done so far on the rad-hard chip have shown that the noise behaviour is very close to that of the rad-soft version, that is fully adequate for the vertex detector readout.

The performance of the silicon strip detector prototypes developed for use in ATLAS at the LHC is reported. Baseline detector assemblies (“modules”) of 12 cm length were read out with binary electronics at 40 MHz clock speed. For both irradiated and unirradiated modules, the tracking efficiency, noise occupancy, and position resolution were measured as a function of bias voltage, binary hit threshold, and detector rotation angle in a 1.56 T magnetic field. Measurements were also performed at a particle flux comparable to the one expected at the LHC.

Abstract

We report on the results from a beam test of a binary silicon strip system proposed for ATLAS. The data were collected during the H8 beam test at CERN in 1995 and at a beam test at KEK in 1996. The binary modules tested had been assembled from silicon micro-strip detectors of different layout and from front-end electronics chips of different architecture. The efficiency, noise occupancy, and position resolution were determined as a function of the threshold setting for various bias voltages and angles of incidence. Interstrip effects were also evaluated using a high resolution telescope. The performance of a prototype detector module irradiated to a fiuence of 1.2 × 10 14 p/cm 2 is also characterized.

Abstract

We have investigated the efficiency and the noise occupancy of a double-sided silicon strip detector, which was subjected to non-uniform proton irradiations up to a maximum equivalent fluence of 5/spl middot/10/sup 13/p/spl middot/cm/sup -2/. The depletion voltage, varying over time due to controlled annealing, was close to zero on one end of the 6 cm strips and 190 V at the high radiation end. We have determined the efficiency and noise occupancy on both n-side and p-side in a /sup 106/RU telescope, using a binary read-out system with 22 ns shaping time. The n-side exhibits superior performance after type inversion.

Abstract

We report the study of amplifier noise on silicon micro strip detectors. We have used a fast, low noise amplifier-comparator VLSI chip with 22 ns shaping time developed for the LHC to determine the noise at the pre-amp as a function of strip length and strip geometry, i.e., interstrip capacitance and ohmic strip resistance. In addition, we have tested the noise in irradiated detectors. We have compared the results with simulations using SPICE.

Abstract

The BaBar experiment's computing resources are geographically spread out. A direct consequence of this is that a large amount of data is transferred between sites. Providing easy management and access to these data is a challenging task. To accomplish this task we are employing the storage resource broker (SRB), developed at the San Diego Super Computing Center, to manage the BaBar data files and to replicate them between Tier-A centers. The system has been tested between the computing centers l'Institut National de Physique Nucle/spl acute/aire et de Physique des Particules (CC-IN2P3), Lyon, France, and at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), Menlo Park, CA, and this paper discusses our experience with a view to production use. We describe how the system could be used to manage the data import/export between the computing sites and how it fits into building a BaBar data grid. We also explain how a user benefits from this system to access and obtain data in an easy and transparent fashion.

Abstract

A modification of the person-environment fit model incorporating the concept of zone of indifference to denote work values that are of low priority to the individual was applied to descriptions of the final jobs of a sample of 217 retired men and women to test the hypothesis that if a value is regarded as unimportant, it is more likely not to apply to a person's job. The data generally support the hypothesis, especially among participants placing low priority on values denoting competition and achievement. It is argued that finding the zone of indifference can be a useful extension of the person-environment fit model.

Abstract

The application of crop residues (mulches) to irrigation furrows can have a large impact on improving surface water quality from surface irrigated lands in central Washington state. This study showed that soil erosion in furrows can be effectively controlled by the use of crop residues at rates of about 0.66 Mg ha −1 in the furrow area. The runoff leaving the residue applied treatments was often clear. There was a large decrease in nutrients leaving the field due to reduced sediment losses. The use of surge flow was superior to continuous flow furrow irrigation for maintaining acceptable application uniformities because of increased wetted perimeters and slow advance rates when crop residues were present. Surge flow with residues resulted in a more uniform water application when compared to constant flow furrow irrigation at the same residue loadings and inflow rates, and also reduced soil-attached fertilizer losses.

Research has shown water application rates = 6 L s–1 ha–1 (38 gpm/acre) are more effective than lower rates in reducing fruit temperatures by evaporative cooling (EC). Applications at about 6.25 L s–1 ha–1 (40 gpm/acre) were sufficient to hold core temperatures close to the selected temperature range during a 40° C (104° F) day with clear skies and sunny conditions. Automated control of EC-based on-core temperatures worked well in this project. The management of EC systems should pulse water applications on and off so free water is continually evaporating, hydro-cooling is minimized, and water is conserved.

Abstract

Wind speed and direction can greatly affect sprinkler distribution patterns. In this article, a mathematical model was developed to represent the nonradially symmetric sprinkler distribution patterns in windy conditions. The model uses an ellipse to represent the base-shape of a pattern, and uses shape functions to represent water distributions across four principal sections of the pattern. A three-dimensional (3-D) water distribution pattern can be generated by the model. Catch-can test data were used to obtain the model coefficients for impact-type sprinklers operating on a 110 kPa to 310 kPa pressure range at wind speed up to 7 m/s. The average error and the mean deviation error of the model are 20.26% and 37.17%, respectively.

A long-term research project was initiated in 1983 on a 1.2 ha trickle-irrigated Vitis vinifera vineyard to address water management of White Riesling (WR), Chenin blanc (CB), and Cabernet Sauvignon (CS) grapes in central Washington. Six large drainage lysimeters, two per cultivar, were installed to monitor crop water use. Each lysimeter contained two vines. Vines were balance pruned and shoot-thinned to achieve an equivalent crop level of about 15 Mg/ha of grapes. Analyses showed that published crop coefficients (ET o ) for mature grapes greatly overestimate water use early and late in the season for Washington conditions although peak crop coefficients of about 0.8-0.9 were similar. Annual crop water use for all three cultivars ranged from 130 mm for one-year-old vines in 1985 to as much as 540 mm for mature vines in 1990. The average crop water use for small, young vines (1985–1986) was about 146 mm/yr, and from 1987–1990 for mature plants it was about 417 mm/yr for all three cultivars.

In a series of seven column experiments, attachment of the bacteriophage PRD-1 and MS-2 to silica beads at pH's 5.0-5.5 was at least partially reversible; however, release of attached phage was slow and breakthrough curves exhibited significant tailing. Rate coefficients for attachment and detachment were on the order of 10 -4 and 10 -6 -10 -4 s -1 , respectively. Corresponding time scales were hours for attachment and days for detachment. The sticking efficiency (α) for phage attachment was near 0.01

Abstract

An automated facility for measuring the performance of individual irrigation sprinklers is described. This outdoor facility had over 90 commercially available tipping bucket type rain gages to sample application rates and depths throughout the area wet by the test sprinkler. A programmable data logger polled each rain gage every two seconds using a wiring system similar to that of computer keyboards to minimize hardware and electronics. Readings of sprinkler discharge, operating pressure, and water temperature as well as wind speed and direction, air temperature, and dew point temperatures up- and down-wind of the test site were recorded with the data logger. The system was programmed to operate unattended at night and during weekends whenever the wind speed exceeded 2.2 m/s (5 mph). In 358 tests, the system was reliable and easy to operate.

Abstract

The Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope represents a great advance in space application of silicon detectors. With a surface of 80 m 2 and about 1 M readout channels it is the largest silicon tracker ever built for a space experiment. GLAST is an astro-particle mission that will study the mostly unexplored, high energy (20 MeV–300 GeV) spectrum coming from active sources or diffused in the Universe. The detector integration and test phase is complete. The full instrument underwent environmental testing and the spacecraft integration phase has just started: the launch is foreseen in late 2007. In the meanwhile the spare modules are being used for instrument calibration and performance verification employing the CERN accelerator complex. A Calibration Unit has been exposed to photon, electron and hadron beams from a few GeV up to 300 GeV. We report on the status of the instrument and on the calibration campaign.

Abstract

A unique electronics system has been built and tested for reading signals from the silicon-strip detectors of the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope mission. The system amplifies and processes signals from 884 736 36-cm strips using only 160 W of power, and it achieves close to 100% detection efficiency with noise occupancy sufficiently low to allow it to self trigger. The design of the readout system is described, and results are presented from ground-based testing of the completed detector system.

Abstract

The position- and energy-sensitive primary particle detectors of a nanodosimetry system are described. They consist of a telescope of silicon strip detectors, which allow the determination of the particle's position from the hit strip address and its energy from the specific energy loss. In our implementation, the energy loss is measured through the time-over-threshold.

Abstract

A n,-bulk AC-coupling double-sided silicon strip detector, designed to have a high tolerance to radiation, was characterized with fast binary readout electronics to the pion beams. The detector was beamtested before and after the proton irradiation. The proton irradiation was non-uniform and to increase the damage the detector was heated to accelerate the anti-annealing. The effective radiation level was about 1/spl times/10/sup 14/ p/cm/sup 2/ The detector was characterized by varying two parameters: bias voltage of the detector and the threshold of the discriminator of the binary readout electronics. The irradiated detector has clearly shown the effect of bulk inversion, the move of p-n junction from the p-side to the n-side, both in the efficiency variation with a fixed threshold and in the median pulse height distribution, as a function of bias voltage. In the irradiated region, collected charge in the n-side has shown the characteristic /spl radic/V dependence of the depletion depth. The binary system was proved to be efficient well below the full depletion voltage in the p-n junction side. The detector, being irradiated highly non-uniformly, the bulk changing from nearly intrinsic to the damage of about 1/spl times/10/sup 14/ p/cm/sup 2/ within the detector, worked without any noticeable failures.

Abstract

The branching fractions of the exclusive decays $B^0\to K^{*0}\gamma$ and $B^+ \to K^{*+}\gamma$ are measured from a sample of $(22.74\pm 0.36)\times 10^6$ $B\bar B$ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP II asymmetric $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We find ${\cal B}(B^0\to K^{*0}\gamma) = (4.23\pm 0.40({\rm stat.})\pm 0.22({\rm sys.}))\times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}(B^+\to K^{*+}\gamma) = (3.83\pm 0.62({\rm stat.})\pm 0.22({\rm sys.}))\times 10^{-5}$ and constrain the CP-violating charge asymmetry to be $-0.170 < A_{CP}(B \to K^*\gamma) < 0.082$ at 90% C.L.

Abstract

The Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT) of the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory is a five layer double sided, AC coupled silicon microstrip detector. It represents the crucial element to precisely measure the decay position of B mesons. The SVT architecture is shown and its performances, like hit resolutions and efficiencies, are described. Radiation issues are discussed and the alignment procedure for the SVT is described. As an example for the physics performance the B lifetime measurement, including B vertex reconstruction, is shown.

Abstract

The Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT) of the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory is a five-layer double-sided, AC-coupled silicon microstrip detector. It represents the crucial element to precisely measure the decay position of B mesons and extract time-dependent CP asymmetries. The SVT architecture is shown and its performance is described, with emphasis on hit resolutions and efficiencies.

Abstract

The silicon-vertex tracker (SVT) for the BaBar Experiment at the PEP-II Asymmetric B Factory at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), is a five-layer double-sided ac-coupled silicon-microstrip detector. It is a crucial element for the precise measurement of the decay position of B mesons, satisfying the severe constraints imposed by the accelerator design, in terms of geometry of the interaction region and conditions of operation. In the following paper, the SVT performance is described. Radiation issues are discussed and the results of different tests aimed to study the decrease in the SVT performance due to radiation damage are presented. The alignment procedure is described, and a few BaBar physics results are presented as examples of the SVT capabilities to reconstruct decay vertices with good resolution and efficiency.

Abstract

We present a limit on the branching fraction for the decay B0-->gammagamma using data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e+e- collider. Based on the observation of one event in the signal region, out of a sample of 21.3x10(6) e+e--->Upsilon(4S)-->BB decays, we establish an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B0-->gammagamma)

Abstract

We present a measurement of the decay amplitudes in B-->J/psi K^*(892) channels using 20.7 fb-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure a P-wave fraction R_perp = (16.0+/-3.2+/-1.4)% and a longitudinal polarization fraction (59.7+/-2.8+/-2.4)%. The measurement of a relative phase that is neither 0 nor pi, phi_ll = 2.50+/-0.20+/-0.08 radians, favors a departure from the factorization hypothesis. Although the decay B-->J/psi Kpi proceeds mainly via K^*(892), there is also evidence for K^*_2(1430) and Kpi S-wave contributions.

Abstract

We present the results of searches for B decays to charmless two-body final states containing $\eta^\prime$ or $\omega$ mesons, based on 20.7 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the BABAR detector. We find the branching fractions ${\cal B}(B^+\to\eta^\prime K^+) = (70\pm 8\pm 5)\times 10^{-6}$, ${\cal B}(B^0\to\eta^\prime K^0) = (42^{+13}_{-11}\pm 4)\times 10^{-6}$, and ${\cal B}(B^+\to\omega\pi^+)=6.6^{+2.1}_{-1.8}\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-6}$ where the first error quoted is statistical and the second systematic. We give measurements of four additional modes for which the 90% confidence level upper limits are ${\cal B}(B^0\to\omega K^0) < 13\times 10^{-6}$, ${\cal B}(B^+\to\eta^\prime \pi^+) < 12\times 10^{-6}$, ${\cal B}(B^+\to \omega K^+) < 4\times 10^{-6}$, and ${\cal B}(B^0\to\omega\pi^0) < 3\times 10^{-6}$.

Abstract

The B0 and B+ meson lifetimes have been measured in e+e- annihilation data collected in 1999 and 2000 with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. Events are selected in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic final state while the second B meson is reconstructed inclusively. A combined fit to the B0 and the B+ decay time difference distributions yields tau_{B0} = 1.546 +/- 0.032 (stat) +/- 0.022(syst) ps, tau_{B+} = 1.673 +/- 0.032 (stat) +/- 0.023 (syst) ps and tau_{B+} / tau_{B0} = 1.082 +/- 0.026 (stat) +/- 0.012 (syst)

Abstract

The production of $J/\psi$ mesons in continuum $e^+e^-$ annihilations has been studied with the BABAR detector at energies near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance, approximately 10.6 GeV. The mesons are distinguished from $J/\psi$ production in B decays through their center-of-mass momentum and energy. We measure the cross section $e^+e^-\to J/\psi X$ to be $2.52\pm 0.21\pm 0.21$ pb; for momentum above 2 GeV/c, it is $1.87\pm 0.10\pm 0.15$ pb. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction for direct $\Upsilon(4S)$\to J/\psi X$ decays at $4.3\times 10^{-4}$.

Abstract

We present measurements of the branching fractions and a search for CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless hadronic decays of B mesons into two-body final states of kaons and pions. The results are based on a data sample of approximately 23 million BB(bar) pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. We find the following branching fractions: BF(B0-->pi+pi-)= (4.1+/-1.0+/-0.7) x 10^{-6}, BF(B0-->K+pi-)=(16.7+/-1.6+/-1.3) x 10^{-6}, BF(B+-->K+pi0)=(10.8^{+2.1}_{-1.9}+/-1.0) x 10^{-6}, BF(B+-->K0pi+)=(18.2^{+3.3}_{-3.0}+/-2.0) x 10^{-6}, BF(B0-->K0pi0)=(8.2^{+3.1}_{-2.7}+/-1.2) x 10^{-6}. We also report the 90% confidence level upper limits BF(B0-->K+K-) pi+pi0) anti-K0K+) < 2.4 x 10^{-6}. In addition, charge asymmetries have been measured and found to be consistent with zero, where the statistical precision is in the range of +/-0.10 to +/-0.18, depending on the decay mode.

Abstract

We have observed the decays B--> phiK and phiK(*) in a sample of over 45 million B mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. The measured branching fractions are B(B+--> phiK+) = (7.7(+1.6)(-1.4)+/-0.8)x10(-6), B(B0--> phiK0) = (8.1(+3.1)(-2.5)+/-0.8)x10(-6), B(B+--> phiK(*+)) = (9.7(+4.2)(-3.4)+/-1.7)x10(-6), and B(B0--> phiK(*0)) = (8.7(+2.5)(-2.1)+/-1.1)x10(-6). We also report the upper limit B(B+--> phipi(+))

Abstract

We present an updated measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. This result uses an additional sample of Upsilon(4S) decays collected in 2001, bringing the data available to 32 x 10(6) BB macro pairs. We select events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing charmonium and the flavor of the other neutral B meson is determined from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the standard model is proportional to sin2 beta, is derived from the decay time distributions in such events. The result sin2 beta = 0.59+/-0.14(stat)+/-0.05(syst) establishes CP violation in the B(0) meson system. We also determine absolute value of lambda = 0.93+/-0.09(stat)+/-0.03(syst), consistent with no direct CP violation.

Abstract

We present a measurement of the decay amplitudes in B--J/psiK*(892) channels using 20.7 fb(-1) of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure a P-wave fraction R(perpendicular) = (16.0 +/- 3.2 +/- 1.4)% and a longitudinal polarization fraction (59.7 +/- 2.8 +/- 2.4)%. The measurement of a relative phase that is neither 0 nor pi, phi = 2.50 +/- 0.20 +/-0.08 radians, favors a departure from the factorization hypothesis. Although the decay B--/psiK(pi) proceeds mainly via K*(892), there is also evidence for K2*(1430) and K(pi) S-wave contributions.
