Abstract

Abstract The full data set of the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is used to probe the effect of the charged current non-standard interactions (CC-NSI) on neutrino oscillation experiments. Two different approaches are applied and constraints on the corresponding CC-NSI parameters are obtained with the neutrino flux taken from the Huber-Mueller model with a 5% uncertainty. For the quantum mechanics-based approach (QM-NSI), the constraints on the CC-NSI parameters ϵ eα and ϵ eα s $$ {\epsilon}_{e\alpha}^s $$ are extracted with and without the assumption that the effects of the new physics are the same in the production and detection processes, respectively. The approach based on the weak effective field theory (WEFT-NSI) deals with four types of CC-NSI represented by the parameters [ε X ] eα . For both approaches, the results for the CC-NSI parameters are shown for cases with various fixed values of the CC-NSI and the Dirac CP-violating phases, and when they are allowed to vary freely. We find that constraints on the QM-NSI parameters ϵ eα and ϵ eα s $$ {\epsilon}_{e\alpha}^s $$ from the Daya Bay experiment alone can reach the order O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (0.01) for the former and O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (0.1) for the latter, while for WEFT-NSI parameters [ε X ] eα , we obtain O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (0.1) for both cases.

Abstract

An innovative extended response surface modeling technique (ERSM v1.0) is developed to characterize the nonlinear response of fine particles (PM2.5) to large and simultaneous changes of multiple precursor emissions from multiple regions and sectors. The ERSM technique is developed based on the conventional response surface modeling (RSM) technique; it first quantifies the relationship between PM2.5 concentrations and the emissions of gaseous precursors from each single region using the conventional RSM technique, and then assesses the effects of inter-regional transport of PM2.5 and its gaseous precursors on PM2.5 concentrations in the target region. We apply this novel technique with a widely used regional chemical transport model (CTM) over the Yangtze River delta (YRD) region of China, and evaluate the response of PM2.5 and its inorganic components to the emissions of 36 pollutant–region–sector combinations. The predicted PM2.5 concentrations agree well with independent CTM simulations; the correlation coefficients are larger than 0.98 and 0.99, and the mean normalized errors (MNEs) are less than 1 and 2% for January and August, respectively. It is also demonstrated that the ERSM technique could reproduce fairly well the response of PM2.5 to continuous changes of precursor emission levels between zero and 150%. Employing this new technique, we identify the major sources contributing to PM2.5 and its inorganic components in the YRD region. The nonlinearity in the response of PM2.5 to emission changes is characterized and the underlying chemical processes are illustrated.

3. Low temperature fabrication and doping concentration analysis of Au/Sb ohmic contacts to n-type Si

Abstract

This paper investigates low temperature ohmic contact formation of Au/Sb to n-type Si substrates through AuSb/NiCr/Au metal stacks. Liquid epitaxy growth is utilized to incorporate Sb dopants into Si substrate in AuSi melt. The best specific contact resistivity achieved is 0.003 Ω ⋅ cm2 at 425 oC. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveals inverted pyramidal crater regions at the metal/semiconductor interface, indicating that AuSi alloying efficiently occurs at such sites. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) shows that Sb atoms are successfully incorporated into Si as doping impurities during the anneal process, and the Sb doping concentration at the contact interface is found to be higher than the solid solubility limit in a Si crystal. This ohmic contacts formation method is suitable for semiconductor fabrication processes with limited thermal budget, such as post CMOS integration of MEMS.

In the current stage of prevention and control of the Omicron variant of the pandemic, makeshift hospitals played a key role in isolating and treating mild and asymptomatic patient, which helped to completely and quickly block the spread of the epidemic in the society. Abstract

Geometric structures of free iridium cluster anions, Irn-, were examined by means of ion mobility mass spectrometry and density functional theory calculation for n = 3-15 with the additional help of photoelectron spectroscopy for n = 4-10. It has been revealed that Irn- clusters with n ≥ 5 favor a square facet and take a cubic motif in contrast to the face-centered cubic structures in the corresponding nanoparticles and bulk. A growth sequence of Irn- for n = 5-15 is proposed: single Ir atoms are sequentially attached to one side of the square plane of Ir4- to form a cubic Ir8-, and are then continuously attached on one of the square facets of Ir8- for n = 9-12 and Ir12- for n = 13-15.

Abstract

本文分析2例肺部普通裂褶菌感染患者的临床资料，同时进行文献复习，总结肺部普通裂褶菌感染的临床表现、影像学特点和治疗方案等，以提高临床医生对该病的诊治水平。本组2例肺部普通裂褶菌感染者主要表现为咳嗽、咳痰，胸部CT影像学特点为肺部实变影、部分痰栓形成及肺部团块影，其中例1患者经支气管镜镜下清除痰栓，肺部病灶完全吸收。对有腐木等可疑接触史，伴有呼吸道症状，实验室检查示外周血嗜酸性粒细胞计数、总IgE水平升高，胸部影像学提示有痰栓改变，应考虑到该病的可能，积极完善支气管镜检查及病原学送检是关键。.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of two different femoral cortical suspension devices (fixation loop and adjustable loop) on tunnel widening and knee function in patients following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction for 12 months. METHODS: A total of 60 patients who had undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were included in this study. According to the length of the loop(n)[n= total length of loop-(total length of femoral tunnel-total length of coarse tunnel)] in the rough bone tunnel, the patients were divided into A (adjustable loop was 0 mm in the coarse bone tunnel), B (fixation loop was greater than 0 mm and less than or equal to 10 mm in the coarse bone tunnel) and C (fixation loop was greater than 10 mm in the coarse bone tunnel) groups, of which 11 cases were in group A, 27 cases in group B and 22 cases in group C. In the three-dimensional reconstruction of the knee joint with multi-slice spiral CT, the widening of the bone tunnel in the three groups was compared. At the same time, IKDC, Lysholm and Tegner scores of the patients in the three groups were compared. RESULTS: There were differences in the widening degree of the femoral canal among groups A, B and C, and the median difference of the widening degree of the femoral tunnel 12 months and immediately after the surgery was A < B < C. The difference of femoral canal widening in group A was significantly different from that in groups B and C (P < 0.05).According to the linear regression the relationship between the difference of the width of the femoral canal and the change of the length (n) of the loop in the coarse canal, it was found that there was a linear relationship between the value of n and the difference of the width of the bone canal. With the increase of the value of n, the difference of the width of the bone canal gradually became larger. The median difference of the width of the middle and superior tunnel was negative, while the median difference of the width of the middle and inferior tunnel was positive. During the follow-up, we found that there were no statistical differences in IKDC, Lysholm and Tegner scores among the three groups one year after surgery (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Twelve months after surgery, compared with group B (fixed loop group) and group C (fixed loop group), group A (adjustable loop group) had less bone tunnel widening.In groups A, B and C, as the length of the loop in coarse bone tunnel gradually increased, the width of bone tunnel became more significant. At the end of 12 months follow-up after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, the medial and inferior femoral tunnel was significantly wider than immediately after surgery, and the medial and superior femoral tunnel had gradually begun to undergo tendon-bone healing. There was no significant difference in knee function scores among groups A, B, and C in the follow-up 12 months after surgery.

Abstract

Ceramide is a lipid molecule that regulates life activities such as cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and aging. However, whether ceramide plays a role in the intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is not clear. The aim of this study is to explore the effect of ceramide during the nucleus pulposus (NP) cells degeneration.We used human NP cells and passaged them until the fourth generation to analyze the content of ceramide. Cell-permeable C6-ceramide was used to upregulate ceramide expression, and myriocin was used to inhibit the accumulation of ceramide. To understand the relation between p38MAPK and ceramide, SB203580 was used to inhibit the activation of p38MAPK. We tested the viability of NP cells by the detection of collagen II and p16 expression, the proliferation, and the apoptosis of NP cells.Ceramide content was increased in NP cells from passage 1 (P1) to P4. The upregulation of ceramide accelerated the P1 NP cell degeneration by the reduction of collagen II production and proliferative cells population, increased p16 expression, and apoptotic cells population. However, the suppression of ceramide delayed the degeneration of P4 NP cells in the previous aspects. The accumulation of ceramide activated the phosphorylation of p38MAPK, and the inhibition of p38MAPK activation also alleviated the C6-ceramide-induced NP cell degeneration.Ceramide accumulates during NP cell degradation, and the upregulated ceramide contributes to the NP cells degeneration by p38MAPK activation.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel and simple dual-polarized frequency-selective rasorber (FSR) which has a wide absorption band including a wide transmission band was presented. Detailed equivalent circuit was derived to accurately predict the frequency responses of the structure. Based on reasonable equivalent analysis of a traditional metal grid structure, a modified structure with improved performance was proposed. The structure consists of a lossy frequency-selective surface (FSS) constructed with metal rings connected by center loaded strips as the top layer, and a broadband transmission FSS at the bottom, while the two layers are separated by air. To validate our proposal, a prototype was fabricated and measured. The measured results are in good agreements with simulations under normal incidence, which indicates a broad absorption bandwidth of 80% that from 3.40 to 8.16 GHz; in the meantime, a wide transmission band with an insertion loss of less than −1.25 dB is ranging from 9.03 to 12.01 GHz. It should be pointed out that, the reflection from the whole structure in the operation band can be kept below −10 dB from 4.15 to 11.87 GHz.

Abstract

A high precision calibration of the nonlinearity in the energy response of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment’s antineutrino detectors is presented in detail. The energy nonlinearity originates from the particle-dependent light yield of the scintillator and charge-dependent electronics response. The nonlinearity model is constrained by γ calibration points from deployed and naturally occurring radioactive sources, the β spectrum from ^(12)B decays, and a direct measurement of the electronics nonlinearity with a new flash analog-to-digital converter readout system. Less than 0.5% uncertainty in the energy nonlinearity calibration is achieved for positrons of kinetic energies greater than 1 MeV.

Abstract

Geometric structures of gas-phase palladium oxide cluster cations, PdnOm+, were investigated for stable compositions by ion mobility mass spectrometry (IMMS) and quantum chemical calculations. Pure metallic (m = 0) and oxygen-deficient (m < n) cluster cations were preferentially obtained from the mass spectra as a result of collision-induced dissociation. Structures of cluster series, Pd3Om+ (m = 1–6), Pd4Om+ (m = 2–8), and Pd5Om+ (m = 3–8), were determined by comparing experimental collision cross sections obtained by IMMS and theoretical collision cross sections of optimized structures by density functional theory calculations. As for the Pd3Om+ cluster cations, structural transition was observed from one-dimensional chains to two-dimensional (2D) branched/2D sheets and finally to three-dimensional (3D) compact structures with increasing m. Abstract

Geometrical structures of cerium oxide cluster cations, CenOm+ (n = 2–6, m ≤ 2n), were studied by ion mobility mass spectrometry (IMMS). The most plausible structure for each composition was determined by comparison of a collision cross section (CCS) measured by IMMS with simulated CCSs of several candidate structures obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations. For Ce2O2,3+, Ce3O4,5+, and Ce5O9+, the IMMS results were mostly consistent with those of the vibrational spectroscopic study, whereas a more compact structure was suggested for Ce4O7+. The geometrical structures of some species, Ce4O5,6+, Ce5O6–8+, and Ce6O8–12+, were studied for the first time. For CenO2n+ clusters, the IMMS measurements suggested more compact structures than the reported DFT calculations. Structures with a peroxide ion (O22–) were found to be the most reasonable for CenO2n+ compositions because they are consistent with the experimental results and have the lowest energies among the examined candidate structures, ...

22. Mocetinostat suppresses epidural fibrosis following laminectomy by inhibiting myofibroblast activation and increasing apoptosis

Abstract

To investigate the effect and mechanism of mocetinostat on diminishing epidural fibrosis. Dysregulated wound repair usually occurs after injury or surgery and is featured by excessive scar tissue contributed by fibrosis. Increasing researches demonstrated that histone acetylation, an epigenetic alteration, plays a crucial role in fibrosis. However, the mechanism of the complicated process remains unclear. In the current study, the effect of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor mocetinostat in a rat model of epidural fibrosis was detected, and it was discovered that mocetinostat suppressed myofibroblast activation and increased apoptosis by reducing Akt/GSK3b signaling.First, the levels of histone acetylation in the patients' epidural fibroblasts were analyzed. Then, mRNAs and proteins obtained from human fibroblasts following TGF-β activation and mocetinostat treatment in vitro were used to examine the influence of mocetinostat on the activation and survival of fibroblasts, so as to explore the related mechanism of mocetinostat. The laminectomy model was established in rats to observe the therapeutic effect of mocetinostat on epidural scar tissues.In this research, it was found that the increase of HDAC1 in human dura scar was accompanied by the aggravation of fibrosis. In addition, cell assay demonstrated that mocetinostat inhibited fibroblast activation and accelerated apoptosis by inhibiting Akt/GSK3b pathway. In the rat model, mocetinostat weakened scar hyperplasia and collagen deposition and effectively inhibited the process of epidural fibrosis.The above results indicate that mocetinostat inhibits HDAC1 expression and decreases the conduction of the AKT/GSK3b pathway in fibroblasts, leading to myofibroblast activation and apoptosis elevation. Hence, mocetinostat ameliorates epidural fibrosis.

Abstract

We present the calibration strategy for the 20 kton liquid scintillator central detector of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO). By utilizing a comprehensive multiple-source and multiple-positional calibration program, in combination with a novel dual calorimetry technique exploiting two independent photosensors and readout systems, we demonstrate that the JUNO central detector can achieve a better than 1% energy linearity and a 3% effective energy resolution, required by the neutrino mass ordering determination. Abstract

The prediction of reactor antineutrino spectra will play a crucial role as reactor experiments enter the precision era. The positron energy spectrum of 3.5 million antineutrino inverse beta decay reactions observed by the Daya Bay experiment, in combination with the fission rates of fissile isotopes in the reactor, is used to extract the positron energy spectra resulting from the fission of specific isotopes. This information can be used to produce a precise, data-based prediction of the antineutrino energy spectrum in other reactor antineutrino experiments with different fission fractions than Daya Bay. The positron energy spectra are unfolded to obtain the antineutrino energy spectra by removing the contribution from detector response with the Wiener-SVD unfolding method. Consistent results are obtained with other unfolding methods. A technique to construct a data-based prediction of the reactor antineutrino energy spectrum is proposed and investigated. Given the reactor fission fractions, the technique can predict the energy spectrum to a 2% precision. In addition, we illustrate how to perform a rigorous comparison between the unfolded antineutrino spectrum and a theoretical model prediction that avoids the input model bias of the unfolding method., 22 pages, 10 figures, 6 supplemental materials

27. A feasibility study of embedded conductive layer fabricated by ion implantation

Abstract

In order to make polypropylene (PP) have good conductivity and insulation, as well as certain mechanical properties, silver ions were implanted into the surface of PP to explore the feasibility of forming an embedded conductive layer in this work. The experimental results show that the surface resistivity of PP reaches 0.879 MΩ/sq, dropping by 11 orders of magnitude after ion implantation, which indicates that the surface conductivity has been improved. The surface of implanted PP presents a wrinkled morphology and gaps under the scanning electron microscope (SEM), indicating that ion implantation can cause local high temperature and thereby lead to melting on the surface of the sample. For this reason, silver ions can be easily embedded below the sample surface. The energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) characterization result shows that the penetration depth of silver ions can reach about 2.5–7.5 μm. To further improve the surface conductivity of the sample, we coated carbon black on the surface of PP and then carried out ion implantation. Due to the embedding of carbon black particles, the surface resistivity of the sample further decreased by an order of magnitude, and the change with time was more stable. The results of EDS, FTIR and XRD experiments show that both carbon black and silver ions are embedded inside the surface of the samples. In summary, the method of ion implantation after coating carbon black can form an embedded conductive layer with good conductivity and stability on the surface of PP, which realizes the design concept of integrating the conductive layer and the matrix layer into an integrated layer. The embedded conductive polymer film can be prepared in this way, which serves as a new idea for the development and application of insulating materials.

Abstract

Searches for electron antineutrino, muon neutrino, and muon antineutrino disappearance driven by sterile neutrino mixing have been carried out by the Daya Bay and MINOS+ collaborations. This Letter presents the combined results of these searches, along with exclusion results from the Bugey-3 reactor experiment, framed in a minimally extended four-neutrino scenario. Significantly improved constraints on the θ_{μe} mixing angle are derived that constitute the most constraining limits to date over five orders of magnitude in the mass-squared splitting Δm_{41}^{2}, excluding the 90% C.L. sterile-neutrino parameter space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE observations at 90% CL_{s} for Δm_{41}^{2}

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death among infectious diseases. China has a high burden of TB and accounted for almost 13% of the world's cases of multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB. Spinal TB is one reason for the resurgence of TB in China. Few large case studies of MDR spinal TB in China have been conducted. The aim of this research was to observe the epidemiological characteristics of inpatients with MDR spinal TB in six provinces and cities of China from 1999–2015. This is a multicentre retrospective observational study. Patients' information was collected from the control disease centre and infectious disease database of hospitals in six provinces and cities in China. A total of 3137 patients with spinal TB and 272 patients with MDR spinal TB were analysed. The result showed that MDR spinal TB remains a public health concern and commonly affects patients 15–30 years of age (34.19%). The most common lesions involved the thoracolumbar spine (35.66%). Local pain was the most common symptom (98.53%). Logistic analysis showed that for spinal TB patients, reside in rural district (OR 1.79), advanced in years (OR 1.92) and high education degree (OR 2.22) were independent risk factors for the development of MDR spinal TB. Women were associated with a lower risk of MDR spinal TB (OR 0.48). The most common first-line and second-line resistant drug was isoniazid (68.75%) and levofloxacin (29.04%), respectively. The use of molecular diagnosis resulted in noteworthy clinical advances, including earlier initiation of MDR spinal TB treatment, improved infection control and better clinical outcome. Chemotherapy and surgery can yield satisfactory outcomes with timely diagnosis and long-term treatment. These results enable a better understanding of the MDR spinal TB in China among the general public.

Abstract

Providing a possible connection between neutrino emission and gravitational-wave (GW) bursts is important to our understanding of the physical processes that occur when black holes or neutron stars merge. In the Daya Bay experiment, using data collected from December 2011 to August 2017, a search has been performed for electron-antineutrino signals coinciding with detected GW events, including GW150914, GW151012, GW151226, GW170104, GW170608, GW170814, and GW170817. We used three time windows of $\mathrm{\pm 10~s}$, $\mathrm{\pm 500~s}$, and $\mathrm{\pm 1000~s}$ relative to the occurrence of the GW events, and a neutrino energy range of 1.8 to 100 MeV to search for correlated neutrino candidates. The detected electron-antineutrino candidates are consistent with the expected background rates for all the three time windows. Assuming monochromatic spectra, we found upper limits (90% confidence level) on electron-antineutrino fluence of $(1.13~-~2.44) \times 10^{11}~\rm{cm^{-2}}$ at 5 MeV to $8.0 \times 10^{7}~\rm{cm^{-2}}$ at 100 MeV for the three time windows. Abstract

ObjectivesIt is well established that fresh meat shelf-life deteriorates during aging process. We hypothesize that part of the shelf-life reduction is due to membrane phospholipid deterioration through phospholipase activity and/or phospholipid oxidation during aging. Therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the modifications/deterioration of phospholipid classes/species in pork loins from 3 different aging periods.Materials and MethodsLoins from 20 carcasses were collected at a commercial harvest facility in the Midwest 1 d postmortem from carcasses of Duroc sired crossbred pigs. Four chops from each carcass containing only the longissimus muscle were vacuum packaged and aged at 4°C for 1, 8, and 21 d. A sensitive approach based on electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry was used to comprehensively analyze phospholipid composition using the lipid extract from each sample at each aging period (n = 60). Unsaturation index (UI; measurement of the number of double bonds) for each phospholipid species class was also calculated to quantify fatty acyl chain unsaturation for each sample in each aging period.ResultsTotal phospholipid quantity in pork loins was not different between 1d and 8d aged chops but decreased significantly from 8d to 21d of aging (806.6 vs. 297.5 nmol phospholipid/mg lipid; P < 0.01). On the other hand, the mol% data (distribution of each phospholipid species in relative % of total phospholipid) revealed that phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylserine (PS) increased in mol% from 1d to 21d of aging in pork loins (P < 0.01). This increase was mainly due to the increase of PI 38:4 (primarily 18:0/20:4) and PS 36:2 (primarily 18:0/18:2) between 1d and 21d samples (P < 0.01). The results showed that phospholipid degradation products like lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) mol% rose quickly after short term aging (8d) but remained constant through the rest of the 21d aging period (P < 0.01). Conversely, lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE) was unaltered between 1d and 8d of aging but decreased between 8d and 21d aged pork loins (P < 0.01). The mol% of phosphatidic acid (PA) also increased between 1d and 21d aged pork loins (P < 0.05). Extended aging did not alter the mol% of total phosphatidylcholine (PC), ether-linked PC (ePC), sphingomyelin (SM), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) or ether-linked PE (ePE; P > 0.05). Surprisingly, UI revealed the exact opposite trend as the mol% data. The UI of PI and PS decreased (P < 0.01) from 1d to 21 d of aging in pork loins due to the disappearance of many minor PI and PS species with very long chain fatty acids and multiple double bonds such as PI 42:10 and PS 44:10. There was also a slight increase of PC UI after 8 d of aging in pork loins (P < 0.01). The UI for LPC, ePC, SM, LPE, PE, ePE and total phospholipid were not altered in any of the aging periods (P > 0.05).ConclusionThese results confirmed our hypothesis that phospholipids undergo extensive degradation during aging. The data also indicated that the majority of phospholipids in pork loins may maintain integrity over short period aging (1–8d). Among the phospholipid classes, PI and PS were slightly more resistant to deterioration compared with the others due to their ability to modify fatty acyl chain saturation. Additional investigations are necessary to define the role of phospholipid modifications in fresh pork shelf-life and flavor.

Abstract

Structures and charges of nanocarbon cluster ions, Cnz+ (100 ≤ n ≤ 800, z = 1 and 2), have been determined using ion mobility mass spectrometry. For singly charged ions, a compact cluster ion series was observed in addition to monolayer fullerene ions for n = 260–700 continuously. Previous electron microscopic observations indicated that the compact clusters were bilayer fullerenes (nano-onions), in which the inner and outer layers grow from a structure close to [C30@C230]+ at n = 260. The present study also suggests that several combinations of inner and outer layer fullerenes were produced. The results indicated that the interlayer distance depended on different combinations of inner and outer layers and that the observed lower limit of the interlayer distance agreed well with that of graphite (3.35 A). The upper limit corresponded to bilayer structures in which the number of atoms of the inner layer was constant at about 30, the smallest fullerene size observed in this study. Abstract

The disappearance of reactor $$\bar{\nu }_e$$ ν ¯ e observed by the Daya Bay experiment is examined in the framework of a model in which the neutrino is described by a wave packet with a relative intrinsic momentum dispersion $$\sigma _\mathrm{{rel}}$$ σ rel . Three pairs of nuclear reactors and eight antineutrino detectors, each with good energy resolution, distributed among three experimental halls, supply a high-statistics sample of $$\bar{\nu }_e$$ ν ¯ e acquired at nine different baselines. This provides a unique platform to test the effects which arise from the wave packet treatment of neutrino oscillation. The modified survival probability formula was used to fit Daya Bay data, providing the first experimental limits: $$2.38 \times 10^{-17}< \sigma _\mathrm{{rel}} < 0.23$$ 2.38 × 10 - 17 < σ rel < 0.23 . Treating the dimensions of the reactor cores and detectors as constraints, the limits are improved: $$10^{-14} \lesssim \sigma _\text {rel} < 0.23$$ 10 - 14 ≲ σ rel < 0.23 , and an upper limit of $$\sigma _\text {rel}

Abstract

Herein, the compositions and geometrical structures of niobium oxide cluster ions were studied and compared with those of the lighter Group 5 counterpart vanadium oxide cluster ions by ion-mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS). As a result of collision-induced dissociation in IM-MS, the compositions were found to be dependent on an odd and even number of niobium atoms, whereby the ions with (NbO2)(Nb2O5)(m−1)/2+ and (NbO3)(Nb2O5)(m−1)/2− were identified as stable compositions for an odd number of Nb atoms, whereas (Nb2O5)m/2± and (Nb2O6)(Nb2O5)(m−2)/2− were identified as stable compositions for an even number of Nb atom clusters. Furthermore, structural transitions were observed between m = 8 and 9 for cluster cations and m = 7 and 8 for cluster anions for experimental collision cross-sections (CCSs), which were determined from the arrival times in the ion-mobility measurements. Quantum chemical calculations were conducted on several structural candidates of these compositions for m = 2–12. For cluster cations with the sizes between m = 2 and 8 and cluster anions with m = 2–7, the structures were found to be similar to those of vanadium oxide cluster ions upon comparing the experimental CCSs with the theoretical CCSs of optimized structures. As compared to the vanadium oxide cluster ions, niobium oxide cluster cations with m ≥ 9 and anions with m ≥ 8 consisted of structures where some niobium atoms had more than five oxygen-atom coordination; thus, compact structures could be achieved in the case of niobium oxide cluster ions.

Abstract

This Letter reports the first extraction of individual antineutrino spectra from ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu fission and an improved measurement of the prompt energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay. The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

Abstract

This work reports a precise measurement of the reactor antineutrino flux using 2.2 million inverse beta decay (IBD) events collected with the Daya Bay near detectors in 1230 days. The dominant uncertainty on the neutron detection efficiency is reduced by 56% with respect to the previous measurement through a comprehensive neutron calibration and detailed data and simulation analysis. The new average IBD yield is determined to be $(5.91\pm0.09)\times10^{-43}~\rm{cm}^2/\rm{fission}$ with total uncertainty improved by 29%. The corresponding mean fission fractions from the four main fission isotopes $^{235}$U, $^{238}$U, $^{239}$Pu, and $^{241}$Pu are 0.564, 0.076, 0.304, and 0.056, respectively. The ratio of measured to predicted antineutrino yield is found to be $0.952\pm0.014\pm0.023$ ($1.001\pm0.015\pm0.027$) for the Huber-Mueller (ILL-Vogel) model, where the first and second uncertainty are experimental and theoretical model uncertainty, respectively. Abstract

This Letter reports the first extraction of individual antineutrino spectra from ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu fission and an improved measurement of the prompt energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay. The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

43. First Report of Elm Yellows Phytoplasma Infecting Clover in China

Abstract

In the summer of 2008, phyllody and enlarged petioles resembling symptoms of phytoplasma infection were observed on clover (Trifolium repens) plants in lawns on the campus of Northwest A&F University. Typical phytoplasma-like bacteria were observed in the phloem cells when ultra-thin sections from leaf midrib tissues were examined with transmission electron microscopy. Nested PCR assays were used to verify the association of phytoplasma with the disease. Total DNA was extracted from the phloem of leaf midribs from 20 symptomatic plants and six symptomless plants using the modified CTAB method (1). Using the phytoplasma universal primer pair R16mF2/R16mR1 followed by specific primers R16F2n/R16R2 (4), PCR products of 1.4 and 1.2 kb were amplified, respectively, from symptomatic plants only. Jujube witches'-broom (JWB) and paulownia witches'-broom (PaWB) phytoplasma DNA samples served as controls and were used to study group relationships. After sequencing of the 16S rDNA fragment (GenBank Accession No. FJ436792), a BLAST search determined that the clover phytoplasma shared closest homology (99.6%) with JWB (GenBank Accession No. FJ154846) phytoplasmas compared with lesser identity (90.4%) with PaWB (GenBank Accession No. EF199937). Subsequent restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the PCR-amplified 1.2-kb 16S rDNA R16(1)F1/R1 fragment indicated that the phytoplasma associated with the disease belongs to subgroup 16SrV-B of the elm yellows phytoplasma group. Clover phyllody phytoplasma were previously reported to infect clover in Canada (GenBank Accession No. L33762) (3) and Italy (GenBank Accession No. X77482) (2). The phytoplasma reported here shared 86.7 and 90.0% identity with the clover phyllody phytoplasma above, respectively, much lower than that with Elm yellows phytoplasma group. Abstract

Ion mobility mass spectrometry has been applied to unveil stable compositions and geometrical structures of oxide cluster ions of first-row late transition metals such as Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn. Geometrical structures were assigned by comparison of collision cross sections obtained by this experiment with those calculated for the structures predicted by quantum chemical calculations. Mass spectra of stable compositions of the metal oxide cluster ions resulting from collision-induced-dissociation in the ion drift cell have also been obtained. Oxides of the late transition metals except for Cu were found to have common stable compositions with the same numbers of metal and oxygen atoms, (FeO)n+, (CoO)n+, (NiO)n+, and (ZnO)n+, in addition to oxygen-rich FenOn+1+ ions or oxygen-deficient ConOn−1+, NinOn−1+, and ZnnOn−1+ ions for n up to ≈10. As for the copper oxide clusters, CunOm+ ions with n:m ≈ 2:1 were predominant in the mass spectrum. For the stable ions, structural transitions were commonly observed from two-dimensional (2D) cyclic or sheet structures to three-dimensional (3D) compact structures at around the size n smaller than 8. Both types of isomers coexist at n = 6-8 for (FeO)n+ and (ZnO)n+, and at n = 5 for (NiO)n+, whereas 3D structures were clearly observed from n = 6 for (CoO)n+. These structural transitions were characteristic for the oxide cluster ions of the late transition metals, in marked contrast to those of early transition metals.

Abstract

We report a measurement of electron antineutrino oscillation from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment with nearly 4 million reactor $\overline{\nu}_{e}$ inverse beta decay candidates observed over 1958 days of data collection. The installation of a Flash-ADC readout system and a special calibration campaign using different source enclosures reduce uncertainties in the absolute energy calibration to less than 0.5% for visible energies larger than 2 MeV. The uncertainty in the cosmogenic $^9$Li and $^8$He background is reduced from 45% to 30% in the near detectors. A detailed investigation of the spent nuclear fuel history improves its uncertainty from 100% to 30%. Analysis of the relative $\overline{\nu}_{e}$ rates and energy spectra among detectors yields $\sin^{2}2\theta_{13} = 0.0856\pm 0.0029$ and $\Delta m^2_{32}=(2.471^{+0.068}_{-0.070})\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV}^2$ assuming the normal hierarchy, and $\Delta m^2_{32}=-(2.575^{+0.068}_{-0.070})\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV}^2$ assuming the inverted hierarchy., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, and 1 table. v4: the published version

Abstract

Stable compositions and geometrical structures of vanadium oxide cluster ions, VmOn(±), were investigated by ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS). The most stable compositions of vanadium oxide cluster cations were (V2O4)(V2O5)(m-2)/2(+) and (VO2)(V2O5)(m-1)/2(+), depending on the clusters with even and odd numbers of vanadium atoms. Compositions one-oxygen richer than the cations, such as (V2O5)m/2(-) and (VO3)(V2O5)(m-1)/2(-), were predominantly observed for cluster anions. Assignments of these stable cluster ion compositions, which were determined as a result of collision-induced dissociations in IM-MS, can partly be explained with consideration of spin density distribution. By comparing the experimental collision cross sections (CCSs) obtained from ion mobility measurement with CCSs of the theoretically calculated structures, we confirmed the patterned growth of geometrical structures partially discussed in previous theoretical and spectroscopic studies. We showed that even sized (V2O5)m/2(±) where m = 6-12 had right polygonal prism structures except for the anionic V12O30(-), and for the clusters of odd numbers of vanadium m, cations and anions can either have bridged or pyramid structures. Both of the odd sized structures proposed were derivatives from the even sized right polygonal prism structures. The exception, V12O30(-), which had a CCS almost equal to that of the neighboring smaller V11O28(-), should have a structure of higher density than the right hexagonal prism, in which it was proposed to be a captured pyramid structure, derived from V11O28(-).

Abstract

The transcriptional repressor B lymphocyte-induced maturation protein-1 (Blimp-1) has crucial roles in the control of plasma cell differentiation and in maintaining survival of plasma cells. However, how Blimp-1 ensures the survival of plasma cell malignancy, multiple myeloma (MM), has remained elusive. Here we identified Aiolos, an anti-apoptotic transcription factor of MM cells, as a Blimp-1-interacting protein by mass spectrometry. ChIP coupled with DNA microarray was used to profile the global binding of Aiolos and Blimp-1 to endogenous targets in MM cells, which revealed their co-binding to a large number of genes, including apoptosis-related genes. Accordingly, Blimp-1 and Aiolos regulate similar transcriptomes in MM cells. Analysis of the binding motifs for Blimp-1 and Aiolos uncovered a partial motif that was similar across sites for both proteins. Aiolos promotes the binding of Blimp-1 to target genes and thereby enhances Blimp-1-dependent transcriptional repression. Furthermore, treatment with an anti-MM agent, lenalidomide, caused ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of Blimp-1, leading to the de-repression of a new Blimp-1 direct target, CULLIN 4A (CUL4A), and reduced Aiolos levels. Accordingly, lenalidomide-induced cell death was partially rescued by reintroduction of Blimp-1 or knockdown of CUL4A. Thus, we demonstrated the functional impacts and underlying mechanisms of the interaction between Aiolos and Blimp-1 in maintaining MM cell survival. We also showed that interruption of Blimp-1/Aiolos regulatory pathways contributes to lenalidomide-mediated anti-MM activity.
