Abstract: Abstract LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above $${1.4 \times 10^{-48}}\, {\hbox {cm}}^{2}$$ 1.4 × 10 - 48 cm 2 for a WIMP mass of $${40}\, \hbox {GeV}/{\hbox {c}}^{2}$$ 40 GeV / c 2 and a $${1000}\, \hbox {days}$$ 1000 days exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large $${5.6}\, \hbox {t}$$ 5.6 t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented.

Abstract: The “Laser-hybrid Accelerator for Radiobiological Applications,” LhARA, is conceived as a novel, flexible facility dedicated to the study of radiobiology. The technologies demonstrated in LhARA, which have wide application, will be developed to allow particle-beam therapy to be delivered in a new regimen, combining a variety of ion species in a single treatment fraction and exploiting ultra-high dose rates. LhARA will be a hybrid accelerator system in which laser interactions drive the creation of a large flux of protons or light ions that are captured using a plasma (Gabor) lens and formed into a beam. The laser-driven source allows protons and ions to be captured at energies significantly above those that pertain in conventional facilities, thus evading the current space-charge limit on the instantaneous dose rate that can be delivered. The laser-hybrid approach, therefore, will allow the radiobiology that determines the response of tissue to ionizing radiation to be studied with protons and light ions using a wide variety of time structures, spectral distributions, and spatial configurations at instantaneous dose rates up to and significantly beyond the ultra-high dose-rate “FLASH” regime. It is proposed that LhARA be developed in two stages. In the first stage, a programme of in vitro radiobiology will be served with proton beams with energies between 10 and 15 MeV. In stage two, the beam will be accelerated using a fixed-field alternating-gradient accelerator (FFA). This will allow experiments to be carried out in vitro and in vivo with proton beam energies of up to 127 MeV. In addition, ion beams with energies up to 33.4 MeV per nucleon will be available for in vitro and in vivo experiments. This paper presents the conceptual design for LhARA and the R&D programme by which the LhARA consortium seeks to establish the facility.

Abstract: LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above $1.4 \times 10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ for a WIMP mass of 40 GeV/c$^{2}$ and a 1000 d exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large 5.6 t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented., Comment: 45 pages (79 inc. tables), 7 figures, 9 tables

Abstract: We describe the design and assembly of the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment, a direct detection search for cosmic WIMP dark matter particles. The centerpiece of the experiment is a large liquid xenon time projection chamber sensitive to low energy nuclear recoils. Rejection of backgrounds is enhanced by a Xe skin veto detector and by a liquid scintillator Outer Detector loaded with gadolinium for efficient neutron capture and tagging. LZ is located in the Davis Cavern at the 4850' level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, USA. Abstract: D∗± production via e+e−→D∗±X has been measured at an average CM energy of 34.4 GeV. The D∗± energy spectrum is hard, with a maximum near χ = 0.6. The size of the D∗ cross section, R D ∗ = σ( e + e − → D ∗ X ) σ μμ = 2.50 ± 0.64 ± 0.88 (assuming R D ∗0 = R D ∗+ ) indicates that a large fraction of charm quark production yields D∗ mesons. The D∗± angular distribution exhibits a forward—backward asymmetry, A = −0.28 ± 0.13. This is consistent with that expected in the standard theory for weak neutral currents and leads to |gAc| = 0.89 ± 0.44 for the axial vector coupling of the charm quark.

Abstract: We present an analysis of electroweak leptonic couplings from high statistics experiments on Bhabha scattering and μ pair production at an energy of 34.5 GeV. The forward-backward charge asymmetry of the μ pairs was measured to be −0.098±0.023±0.005. The data were found to agree well with the standard theory of electroweak interaction giving sin2θW=0.27±0.07. The leptonic weak couplings were determined to begv=0.000±0.170 andgA=−0.481±0.055. The data were also used to investigate a class of composite models for leptons.

Abstract: Three-jet events produced by e+e- annihilation into hadrons at 34.6 GeV c.m. energy were studied by comparing them with 2nd order QCD and two different models of fragmentation. The distribution of low energy particles in the 3-jet plane is found to be better described by the LUND color string model than by the independent jet model. The opposite is true for more energetic particles flowing between the 3 jets. The average transverse momenta in jets can be described with values of σq between 350 and 500 MeV/c for the gluon jet. © 1985 Springer-Verlag.

Abstract: We present an analysis of ρ0ρ0 production by two photons in the ρ0ρ0 invariant mass range from 1.2 to 2.0 GeV. From a study of the angular correlations in the process γγ→ρ0ρ0→π- π+π- we exclude a dominant contribution from JP=0- or 2- states. The data indicate sizeable contributions from JP=0+ for four pion masses M4π1.7 GeV. The data are also well described by a model with isotropic production and uncorrelated isotropic decay of the ρ0,s. The cross section stays high below the nominal ρ0ρ0 threshold, i.e. M4π

Abstract: We have measured the processe + e −→e + e −+hadrons, where one of the scattered electrons was detected at large angles, withQ 2 ranging from 7 to 70 (VeV/c)2. The photon structure functionF 2 γ (x, Q2) was determined at an averageQ 2 of 23 (GeV/c)2. The measurements were compared to theoretical predictions of the Quark Parton Model and Quantum Chromodynamics. In both models a hadronic part was added. Within the errors the data are in agreement with the QPM using quark masses of 300 MeV/c2 for the light quarks. The data also agree with a QCD calculation including higher order corrections. A fit yielded a $$\Lambda _{\overline {MS} } $$ value of 140 −65 +190 MeV, where the errors include statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Abstract: A high statistics experiment was performed on Bhabha scattering at energies between 14 and 34 GeV. Good agreement with QED was observed. The combined data on Bhabha scattering and μ pair production were found to agree with the standard theory of electroweak interaction giving sin2 θ = 0.27-0.07+0.06. Assuming for the Z0 mass a value of 90 GeV the leptonic weak coupling constants were determined to gV2 = -0.04 ± 0.06 and gA2 = 0.35 ± 0.09. A search for scalar leptons sets lower limits on the mass of scalar electrons ofMse > 16.6 GeV and of scalar muons of Msμ > 16.4 GeV. © 1982.

Abstract: Scintillation produced in liquid xenon by alpha particles and gamma rays has been studied as a function of applied electric field. For back scattered gamma rays with energy of about 200 keV, the number of scintillation photons was found to decrease by 64+/-2% with increasing field strength. Abstract: We report first results from the ZEPLIN I dark matter detector, based on measurement of scintillation pulse shapes in a liquid xenon target of 3.2 kg fiducial mass. Neutron calibration shows nuclear recoil pulses to have a time constant ≅ 0.5 that of gamma and beta background events. The detector is located in the 2800 mwe depth UK Boulby Mine, and is surrounded by a liquid scintillator Compton veto and passive lead shielding. Three runs totaling 293 kg d fiducial exposure yielded data consistent with a single population of background pulses, with no significant low energy population of shorter pulses. From the 90% confidence limit on the latter a limit is derived on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross-section versus particle mass with a minimum at 1.1 × 10−6 pb.

Abstract: The ZEPLIN I detector is a zero field liquid xenon detector used in the direct search for Galactic WIMP dark matter and has been operated at 2800 mwe depth in the Boulby mine underground facility in the UK. Discrimination between the types of interaction within the liquid xenon volume is performed through measurement of the time constant of the scintillation light, nuclear recoils being characterized by a faster time constant than the predominant background from gamma and beta events. The detector design is outlined, with a discussion of the detection efficiencies and analysis procedure, leading to a 90% c.l. spin independent cross-section upper limit of 1.1 × 10−6 pb at 60 GeV WIMP mass.

Abstract: ZEPLIN II is a 30-kg two-phase xenon detector designed for direct detection of cold dark matter in the form of WIMPs. Currently in the commissioning phase, it will begin operation in the Boulby Mine, UK later this year. ZEPLIN II is capable of discriminating between nuclear recoils and background events and has a design reach up to two orders of magnitude beyond current limits. It will also serve as a step in the development program for a next-generation ton-scale detector.

The detector consists of an array of encapsulated and unencapsulated NaI(T1) crystals with high light yield. Six crystals are collecting data at present. Abstract: A Liquid Xenon based WIMP detector diagnostic array is currently developed by the UKDMC with the help of international collaborators. After a brief reminder on the detection principle in Liquid Xenon, the individual detectors will be described. ZEPLIN I, a detector with a 4 kg fiducial mass with a background discrimination based on Pulse Shape Analysis, is already underground and starting operation. Two setups with improved background discrimination tools (as the ionisation is also recorded) are designed and scheduled to move underground in the second half of 2001. Both of them, ZEPLIN II and ZEPLIN III, are predicted to be sensitive to rate of 0.1–0.01 events/kg/day within 2 years of data taking. Furthermore, new ideas for lower background readout devices are studied, in order to avoid the use of PhotoMultiplier Tubes (PMTs).

Abstract: Re-analysis of published data from the UKDMC NaI Tl dark matter experiment is presented using latest spin factors and comparison is made with the sensitivity predicted for NAIAD, a 100 kg NaI detector concept based on unencapsulated . NaI Tl . We present experimental results and Monte Carlo simulations for NAIAD and show that a factor of 1.5-2 improvement in energy threshold is achievable over conventional NaI dark matter detectors with consequent ; 50% improvement in nuclear recoil discrimination at 10 keV. An overall improvement in sensitivity to spin dependent WIMP interactions of factor 50, based on 100 kg = yrs of data, is predicted relative to previous UKDMC limits. q 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: The UK Dark Matter Collaboration has run a 5–6 kg NaI detector in a well-shielded underground environment for about a year. Signatures of Cold Dark Matter (CDM) interactions are sought using pulse shape discrimination techniques by searching for the relatively short scintillation pulses arising from nuclear recoils among the residual, longer, background events from residual radioactivity in the detector and its environment. Here we report on an improvement to the limits on the CDM cross section for spin dependent interactions using our latest data from a crystal with improved detection efficiency and taking into account recent improved estimates of the spin factor correction between the nucleus and nucleon-supersymmetric particle cross sections.

Abstract: Low-energy background spectra from 1.3 kg and 6.2 kg NaI(TI) crystal scintillators operating in the shielded Boulby underground facility were measured. Upper limits to the scattering interaction rates and cross-sections of Galactic dark matter in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are calculated from these data. This work provides an improved limit for spin-dependent interactions for WIMP masses above 10 GeV.

22. Morphological transformation induced by glass fibers in BALB/c-3T3 cells

Abstract: Studies were conducted to determine whether (1) glass fibers can induce morphological transformation in BALB/c-3T3 cells, (2) the transforming activity of glass fibers is related to fiber size, and (3) transformed cells induced by glass fibers possess neoplastic properties. In the transformation assay, BALB/c-3T3 cells were treated with three different types of glass fibers: Manville code 100 (JM-100, Manville Corp., Denver, CO), Owens-Corning AAA-10 (AAA-10, Owens-Corning Corp., Toledo, OH), and Owens-Corning general building insulation (ISL, Owens-Corning Corp.) fibers. The neoplastic properties were investigated using the soft agar cloning and gene transfection methods. All three different glass fibers were cytotoxic at high concentrations and induced dose-related increases in morphological transformation. The transforming activity was inversely related to fiber size, with AAA-10 showing higher activity than JM-100 and JM-100 showing higher activity than ISL fiber. Transformed cells induced by glass fibers exerted anchorage-independent growth (90%) and DNA transfection-mediated transformation (100%). These results indicate that glass fibers are capable of transforming mammalian (BALB/c-3T3) cells in vitro as a function of their physical properties and that glass fiber-induced transformed cells possess preneoplastic characteristics © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.1

Abstract: 39 hormone-resistant prostate cancer patients with bidimensionally measurable metastatic lesions were given epirubicin 100 mg/m(2) intravenously every 3 weeks. One patient was ineligible and excluded from analyses. According to WHO criteria, 9 patients (24%) had a partial response, 16 patients (42%) had stable disease (including 3 patients (8%) with a partial response not confirmed 1 month later), 11 patients (29%) had progressive disease, and in 2 patients (5%) response was not evaluated. Toxicity was as expected. Fifty-five per cent of patients had WHO grade 3/4 toxicity for white blood cells, and 3% of patients grade 3 toxicity for platelets. Other toxicities included nausea and vomiting, mucositis and alopecia. 2 patients with pre-existing cardiac disease developed cardiotoxicity (1 grade 2, 1 grade 3). An attempt was made to correlate response with prostate specific antigen (PSA) measurements. A positive trend was seen, but 2 non-responding patients showed a > 50% decrease in value.

25. Liquid xenon as a dark matter detector. Prospects for nuclear recoil discrimination by photon timing

Abstract: Two mechanisms lead to liquid xenon scintillatlon, and are excited differently by incident electrons and by heavy charged nuclei. This could be used to discriminate nuclear recoil events from radioactive background in a search for hypothetical Galactic dark matter particles. To achieve low energy threshold a likelihood analysis is proposed using the time intervals between detected photons. Results are presented of Monte Carlo simulations, showing the background rejection achievable as a function of the number of detected photons. Some comments are included on background discrimination by simultaneous measurement of scintillation and ionization signals.

Abstract: We report experimental upper limits on WIMP-nucleon elastic scattering cross sections from the second science run of ZEPLIN-III at the Boulby Underground Laboratory. A raw fiducial exposure of 1344 kg⋅days was accrued over 319 days of continuous operation between June 2010 and May 2011. A total of eight events was observed in the signal acceptance region in the nuclear recoil energy range 7–29 keV, which is compatible with background expectations. This allows the exclusion of the scalar cross-section above 4.8 × 10 − 8 pb near 50 GeV / c 2 WIMP mass with 90% confidence. Combined with data from the first run, this result improves to 3.9 × 10 − 8 pb . The corresponding WIMP-neutron spin-dependent cross-section limit is 8.0 × 10 − 3 pb . The ZEPLIN programme reaches thus its conclusion at Boulby, having deployed and exploited successfully three liquid xenon experiments of increasing reach.

Abstract: The UK Dark Matter Collaboration is currently running a series of scintillation devices at the Boulby mine in North Yorkshire to search for the neutralino, the hypothetical WIMP solution to the dark matter problem. Results of the current NaI(T1) detector array will be discussed, illustrating a population of events of unknown origin. Diagnostic tests performed to investigate the origin of these anomalous events will be outlined, including alpha, beta and neutron calibrations.

Abstract: We present new experimental constraints on the WIMP-nucleon spin-dependent elastic cross-sections using data from the first science run of ZEPLIN-III, a two-phase xenon experiment searching for galactic dark matter WIMPs based at the Boulby mine. Analysis of $\sim$450 kg$\cdot$days fiducial exposure revealed a most likely signal of zero events, leading to a 90%-confidence upper limit on the pure WIMP-neutron cross-section of $\sigma_n=1.8\times 10^{-2}$ pb at 55 GeV/$c^2$ WIMP mass. Recent calculations of the nuclear spin structure based on the Bonn CD nucleon-nucleon potential were used for the odd-neutron isotopes $^{129}$Xe and $^{131}$Xe. These indicate that the sensitivity of xenon targets to the spin-dependent WIMP-proton interaction is much lower than implied by previous calculations, whereas the WIMP-neutron sensitivity is impaired only by a factor of $\sim$2., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures

Abstract: Gut barrier failure and bacterial translocation (BT) after thermal injury may result from splanchnic vasoconstriction and intestinal ischemia. The role of the renin-angiotensin system in intestinal blood flow and BT after thermal injury was studied by pretreatment with the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor enalapril in Wistar rats before sham or 30% scald burn. Adequacy of ACE inhibition was documented by the absence of a hypertensive response to angiotensin I, and intestinal blood flow was determined using 51Cr-labeled microspheres. Small bowel blood flow was decreased by 46% at 4-h postburn (P less than 0.05) in untreated burned animals despite maintenance of normal cardiac index but returned to baseline levels by 24 h after injury. Enalapril pretreatment resulted in maintenance of small bowel blood flow after thermal injury and was associated with a significantly reduced incidence of BT (20% vs. 75% in untreated burned animals, P less than 0.01). These findings further implicate intestinal ischemia in the etiology of gut barrier dysfunction after thermal injury, mediated in part by activation of the renin-angiotensin system.

32. Long-term follow-up of non-seminomatous testicular cancer patients with mature teratoma or carcinoma at postchemotherapy surgery

Abstract: From 1979 to 1983 the EORTC GU Group treated 239 patients with disseminated non-seminomatous testicular cancer with combination chemotherapy comprising cisplatin, vinblastine and bleomycin in a prospectively controlled trial. The protocol required complete resection of residual masses after induction chemotherapy, provided that serum tumour markers were normal. 102 patients were operated on. 27 patients had mature teratoma (teratoma differentiated) in the resected specimens and 23 had viable cancer. Follow-up data were available for 26 and 22 of these patients, respectively. 23 of 26 patients (88%) with mature teratoma are alive and disease free after a follow-up of 53-110 months (median 92 months). 3 patients developed progressive disease; 1 died. A peculiar case of growing mature teratoma on the forearm is described. 13 of 22 patients (59%) with residual carcinoma are alive and disease free after a follow-up of 74-112 months (median 95 months). The prognosis of patients with carcinoma is shown to be correlated with the completeness of surgery, which in turn is correlated with the initial tumour mass before chemotherapy.

Abstract: The ZEPLIN-III experiment in the Palmer Underground Laboratory at Boulby uses a 12kg two-phase xenon time projection chamber to search for the weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) that may account for the dark matter of our Galaxy. The detector measures both scintillation and ionisation produced by radiation interacting in the liquid to differentiate between the nuclear recoils expected from WIMPs and the electron recoil background signals down to ~10keV nuclear recoil energy. An analysis of 847kg.days of data acquired between February 27th 2008 and May 20th 2008 has excluded a WIMP-nucleon elastic scattering spin-independent cross-section above 8.1x10(-8)pb at 55GeV/c2 with a 90% confidence limit. It has also demonstrated that the two-phase xenon technique is capable of better discrimination between electron and nuclear recoils at low-energy than previously achieved by other xenon-based experiments., 12 pages, 17 figures

Abstract: Results are presented from the first underground data run of ZEPLIN-II, a 31 kg two phase xenon detector developed to observe nuclear recoils from hypothetical weakly interacting massive dark matter particles. Discrimination between nuclear recoils and background electron recoils is afforded by recording both the scintillation and ionisation signals generated within the liquid xenon, with the ratio of these signals being different for the two classes of event. This ratio is calibrated for different incident species using an AmBe neutron source and Co-60 gamma-ray sources. From our first 31 live days of running ZEPLIN-II, the total exposure following the application of fiducial and stability cuts was 225 kgxdays. A background population of radon progeny events was observed in this run, arising from radon emission in the gas purification getters, due to radon daughter ion decays on the surfaces of the walls of the chamber. An acceptance window, defined by the neutron calibration data, of 50% nuclear recoil acceptance between 5 keVee and 20 keVee, had an observed count of 29 events, with a summed expectation of 28.6+/-4.3 gamma-ray and radon progeny induced background events. These figures provide a 90% c.l. upper limit to the number of nuclear recoils of 10.4 events in this acceptance window, which converts to a WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross-section with a minimum of 6.6x10^-7 pb following the inclusion of an energy dependent, calibrated, efficiency. A second run is currently underway in which the radon progeny will be eliminated, thereby removing the background population, with a projected sensitivity of 2x10^-7 pb for similar exposures as the first run., Comment: 38 Pages, 16 Figures, (v2: corrected table 2 description)

Abstract: We present results from a GEANT4-based Monte Carlo tool for end-to-end simulations of the ZEPLIN-III dark matter experiment. ZEPLIN-III is a two-phase detector which measures both the scintillation light and the ionisation charge generated in liquid xenon by interacting particles and radiation. The software models the instrument response to radioactive backgrounds and calibration sources, including the generation, ray-tracing and detection of the primary and secondary scintillations in liquid and gaseous xenon, and subsequent processing by data acquisition electronics. A flexible user interface allows easy modification of detector parameters at run time. Realistic datasets can be produced to help with data analysis, an example of which is the position reconstruction algorithm developed from simulated data. Abstract: We describe the ZEPLIN II (30-kg) and ZEPLIN III (7-kg) discriminating dark matter detector using two-phase xenon designed for direct detection of cold dark matter in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles. These two detectors are currently being commissioned. Both detector will begin operation in the Boulby Mine, UK in 2005. ZEPLIN II & III are capable of discriminating between nuclear recoils and background events and have a design reach up to two orders of magnitude beyond current limits. These two detectors will also serve as a step in the development program for a next-generation ton-scale detector.

Abstract: A set of 35 photomultiplier tubes (ETL D730/9829Q), intended for use in the ZEPLIN III Dark Matter detector, was tested from room temperature down to -100°C, with the aim of confirming their suitability for detecting xenon scintillation light at 175 nm while immersed in the cryogenic liquid. A general improvement of both gain and quantum efficiency at the xenon scintillation wavelength was observed with cooling, the best combined effect being 40%, while little change was noted in the timing properties and dark current. Saturation of response due to accumulation of charge in the resistive bialkali photocathodes was seen at an average photocurrent of 108 photoelectrons/s for the device with best quantum efficiency, whereas an order of magnitude higher current was required to saturate the least sensitive one. Abstract: The NAIAD experiment (NaI Advanced Detector) for WIMP dark matter searches at Boulby mine (UK) is described. The detector consists of an array of encapsulated and unencapsulated NaI(Tl) crystals with high light yield. Six crystals are collecting data at present. Data accumulated by four of them (10.6 kg x year exposure) have been used to set upper limits on the WIMP-nucleon spin-independent and WIMP-proton spin-dependent cross-sections. Pulse shape analysis has been applied to discriminate between nuclear recoils, as may be caused by WIMP interactions, and electron recoils due to gamma background. Abstract: Adjuvant post-orchidectomy radiotherapy cures the majority of patients with stage I seminoma, but as approximately 80 per cent would remain relapse-free on surveillance alone, minimising radiotherapy — and hence morbidity and second cancer risk — is a worthwhile aim. An earlier MRC trial (TE10) assessed the impact of reducing radiotherapy field size from the dog-leg field to the para-aortic strip only. This follow-on trial assessed the impact of reducing radiotherapy dose on relapse rates, acute morbidity and quality of life.

Abstract: The status of dark matter searches with inorganic scintillator detectors at Boulby mine is reviewed and the results of tests with a CsI(Tl) crystal are presented. The objectives of the latter experiment were to study anomalous fast events previously observed and to identify ways to remove this background. Clear indications were found that these events were due to surface contamination of crystals by alphas, probably from radon decay. A new array of unencapsulated NaI(Tl) crystals immersed either in liquid paraffin or pure nitrogen atmosphere is under construction at Boulby. Such an approach allows complete control of the surface of the crystals and the ability to remove any surface contamination. First data from the unencapsulated NaI(Tl) do not show the presence of anomalous fast events., 14 pages, 6 figures
