Search

日间宫腔镜手术是指患者一日内且不过夜入、出院完成的宫腔镜手术，设置日间宫腔镜手术中心是适应现代医院发展模式的重大转变。全国有资质的各级医疗机构以不同形式和规模在开展日间宫腔镜手术，但尚缺乏统一的制度流程和规范。本共识以国际日间手术学会和中国日间手术合作联盟发布的相关文献为参考，结合中国开展日间手术成熟的医疗机构的制度流程，从日间宫腔镜手术中心的设置、管理制度、管理流程到质量控制以及并发症的处理及转运给予了共识性建议，同时，对医疗、护理和麻醉三个维度的评估和相关问题处理制定了规范化流程。.

Inorganic pore structures are critical to understand the oil and gas transport and storage properties of unconventional reservoirs. However, it can be difficult to quantitatively and qualitatively interpret the relationship between the inorganic pore structure and particle arrangement in terms of particle size and the brittle and clay mineral composition of shale. In this paper, artificial core simulations and mathematical modeling were performed to explore the effects of brittle mineral and clay mineral assemblages on shale pore structures. The artificial cores were subjected to computerized tomography and scanning electron microscopy analysis, as well as porosity and permeability testing. The results show that shale porosity and permeability increase with the brittle to clay mineral particle size ratio. This phenomenon is caused by the different arrangements of inorganic minerals in shale when the brittle to clay mineral particle size ratio is 1. A theoretical mathematical model based on mineral arrangement shows that shale permeability can be characterized by the inverse proportional function of mineral particle size. This investigation of shale pore heterogeneities on meso- and macroscales based on artificial cores provides new insights into the simulation of oil and gas transport in micro- to nanoscale pores and the understanding of pore evolution during the first diagenesis stage of shale, which is mainly composed of inorganic minerals.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common pediatric disease, whose outcome depends of the enterovirus genotype infecting the patient. The present study is focused on the potential diagnostic value and the role of circulating microRNA-494 (miR-494) in enterovirus 71-induced more severe form of HFMD. We included 102 children with enterovirus 71 (EV71)-induced HFMD, 42 coxsackievirus A16 (CA16)-induced HFMD and 102 healthy controls. The plasma and serum samples were collected. The expression level of circulating miR-494 was determined by RT-PCR method. Moreover, ROC curve has been drawn to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of circulating miR-494 for the diagnosis of EV71-induced HFMD. Furthermore, the correlation between the circulating miR-494 and the levels of interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 4 (IL-4) and interferon γ (IFN-γ) in the serum of patients were analyzed. Circulating miR-494 was significantly increased in plasma of children with EV71-induced HFMD compared with the healthy children or CA16-induced HFMD, and level of miR-494 in the EV71 severe group was significantly higher than the EV71 mild group. Moreover, results of ROC analysis suggested that miR-494 is a sensitive biomarker to distinguish EV71 patients from healthy controls and CA16 patients. Furthermore, IL-6 and IFN-γ were elevated in serum of patients with EV71-induced HFMD and the level of circulating miR-494 in patients with EV71-induced HFMD was positively correlated with the serum levels of both IL-6 and IFN-γ, respectively. Circulating miR-494 was abnormally up-regulated in plasma of the children with EV71-induced HFMD, and miR-494 may serve as potential biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. To elucidate the regulatory effect of microRNA-34b on the occurrence of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia and the underlying mechanism.The expression of microRNA-34b in the bone marrow of 72 children with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) was detected by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). The relationship between microRNA-34b expression and pathological characteristics was analyzed. Kaplan-Meier curve was introduced for evaluating the prognostic value of microRNA-34b in pediatric AML. The regulatory effects of microRNA-34b on proliferation, cell cycle, and apoptosis of leukemia cells were accessed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Bioinformatics prediction and dual-luciferase reporter gene assay were conducted to evaluate the binding between microRNA-34b and lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA). LDHA expression after overexpression of microRNA-34b was determined by qRT-PCR and Western blot. Rescue experiments were conducted to verify whether microRNA-34b could regulate proliferative and apoptotic behaviors of leukemia cells by suppressing LDHA expression.MicroRNA-34b was markedly downregulated in AML children. Low expression of microRNA-34b was correlated to FAB typing, cytogenetic abnormality, and day 7 response to the treatment of pediatric AML. By collecting the follow-up data, it was found that low expression of microRNA-34b was correlated to the poor prognosis of AML. Overexpression of microRNA-34b inhibited proliferative ability and cell cycle progression, but accelerated apoptosis of AML cells. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay verified that microRNA-34b could bind to LDHA, thereafter inhibiting LDHA expression. Overexpression of LDHA reversed the regulatory effects of microRNA-34b on proliferation, cell cycle, and apoptosis of AML cells.We found that microRNA-34b is lowly expressed in pediatric AML patients, and low expression of microRNA-34b may serve as an indicator of malignant progression and poor prognosis of pediatric AML. MicroRNA-34b may affect the proliferation and apoptosis of leukemia cells by regulating the expression of LDHA.

For the search and rescue work after the earthquake or the exploration of unknown areas, a photovoltaic-based intelligent search and rescue device was designed. A hardware platform for a car automatic driving system controlled by an STM32 single-chip microcomputer based on an ARM core is constructed, which consists of a photovoltaic auxiliary power generation module, a power supply module, a main controller module, obstacle detection, a motor drive module, a speed detection module, and a video transmission module. And constructed a software platform based on ARM core STM32F103 single-chip microcomputer controlled automatic control system. Finally, through the joint debugging of the hardware and software parts of the photovoltaic intelligent search and rescue equipment, the stability and feasibility of the system were verified, and the functions of photovoltaic-assisted power generation, manual control, autonomous obstacle avoidance, and video transmission of the car were realized.

The Tibet experiment, operating at Yangbajing (4,300 m above sea level), is the lowest energy air shower array and the new high density array constructed in 1996 has sensitivity to $\gamma$-ray air showers at energies as low as 3 TeV. With this new array, the Crab Nebula was observed in multi-TeV $\gamma$-rays and a signal was detected at the 5.5 $\sigma$ level. We also obtained the energy spectrum of $\gamma$-rays in the energy region above 3 TeV which partially overlaps those observed with imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. This is the first observation of $\gamma$-ray signals from point sources with a conventional air shower array using scintillation detectors.

We examined the Sun's shadow by 10 TeV cosmic rays observed with the Tibet air shower array during the period from 1991 through 1997. The results suggest that there is a causal relation between the shadow's movement and the changing inclination of the heliospheric current sheet of the large-scale solar magnetic field. Thus, further observations with higher statistics may provide direct information on the relation between a time variation of the large-scale structure of the solar and interplanetary magnetic fields and the phase of solar activity cycle.

1. The effect of daidzein, a naturally occurring phytoestrogen, on the reproductive performance of 120 female Zhedong White geese was determined. The geese were divided into 4 groups which were fed on diets containing 0 (Control), 10 (Da1), 20 (Da2) and 30 (Da3) mg daidzein per kg diet. Egg production and weight, fertility and hatchability rates, concentrations of estradiol (E2), triiodothyronine (T3), progesterone (P4), thyroxine (T4) and growth hormone (GH) in serum, and mRNA levels of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), β-follicle stimulating hormone (FSHβ), follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), oestrogen receptor1 (ESR1), oestrogen receptor2 (ESR2), prolactin (PRL), prolactin receptor (PRLR), and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) in the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPGA) were measured. 2. Daidzein increased egg weight and fertility but had no detectable effect on egg production and hatchability. 3. Daidzein affected serum P4 and GH concentrations and T4 rhythm, up-regulated GnRH mRNA and PRLR mRNA levels in the hypothalamus, down-regulated PRLR mRNA in the hypothalamus, PRL mRNA in the pituitary, and ESR2 mRNA levels in the ovary, respectively. The mRNA rhythms of PRLR in the hypothalamus, PRL, PRLR and FSHβ in the pituitary, FSHR, ESR1 and ESR2 in the ovary were significantly changed in the Da2 group. 4. It is suggested that an appropriate dose of daidzein might improve reproductive performance by affecting serum hormone concentrations and rhythms and regulating gene mRNA levels in the HPGA of female Zhedong White geese.

1. The effects of alfalfa meal on carcase quality and fat metabolism of Muscovy duck were evaluated. The objective of this research was to establish whether alfalfa meal can reduce fat content and improve carcase quality of Muscovy duck. Animal products with a high fat content present a risk factor for many diseases. Reducing fat content in poultry products is an important goal for the poultry industry. 2. A total of 240 14-d-old white Muscovy ducks were selected and randomly allocated to 1 of 4 dietary treatments containing 0, 3, 6, and 9% of alfalfa meal for 5 weeks. Growth performances were recorded and carcase characteristics and lipid parameters were analysed. 3. Results showed that 3, 6, and 9% alfalfa meal in diet had no significant effects on growth performance of Muscovy ducks from 14 to 49 d of age. Ducks given 3, 6, and 9% alfalfa meal had significantly higher dressing percentage and lower abdominal fat percentage compared with those given no alfalfa meal. Ducks given 9% alfalfa meal had higher breast meat percentage compared with those given no alfalfa meal. The concentrations of triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and free fatty acid in serum of ducks fed on alfalfa meal decreased. Alfalfa meal in the diet decreased abdominal fat percentage and improved carcase traits of Muscovy duck. 4. The study showed that dietary alfalfa meal decreased abdominal fat percentage and improved carcase traits, without an adverse effect on performance.

Data from the Tibet air-shower array were used to examine the cosmic-ray shadows of the Moon and the Sun at energies around 10 TeV. The shadowing effect was clearly observed at the $5.8\ensuremath{\sigma}$ level for the Moon, while the shadow of the Sun was found in the direction away from the Sun by 0.86\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} to the west and 0.43\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} to the south. The effect of the geomagnetic field has also been observed in the shadow of cosmic rays by the Moon. The observed deflection of the Sun's shadow is briefly discussed in connection with the effect of the magnetic fields between the Sun and the Earth. This is the first observation of the effects of such magnetic fields on the cosmic-ray shadow. The maximum-likelihood analysis of the Moon data set shows that the angular resolutions of the array for showers with its mode energies 7 and 35 TeV are 0.87${\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}_{\ensuremath{-}0.10\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}^{+0.13\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$ and 0.54${\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}_{\ensuremath{-}0.08\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}^{+0.11\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$, respectively.

The Tibet air shower array at an altitude of 4300 m has been in operation since January 1990. We have searched for continual emission of 10-TeV gamma rays from the Crab Nebula, Cygnus X-3 and Hercules X-1 during the period from June 1990 through January 1992. No dc excess is found from these three sources. Flux upper limits above 10 TeV are obtained to be 1.2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}12}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}2}$ ${\mathrm{s}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$ for the Crab Nebula, 1.1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}12}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}2}$${\mathrm{s}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$ for Cygnus X-3, and 0.58\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}12}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}2}$${\mathrm{s}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$ for Hercules X-1 at the 95% C.L. This is the first observation, with an air shower array, for these sources in the 10-TeV energy region.

The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between islet autoantibodies of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), islet antigen-2A (IA-2A), insulin autoantibody (IAA), and human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DQ genotypes in type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients and their first-degree relatives (FDRs). Cross-sectional and case-control study. Four hundred and ninety-five T1D patients, 419 FDRs, and 376 control subjects in Han Chinese populations were recruited and tested for GADA and IA-2A, while 71 cases, all FDRs and 300 controls were tested for IAA. The 338 T1D patients (including 187 antibody-positive and 151 antibody-negative patients), 173 FDRs and 278 controls were genotyped for HLA-DQ with polymerase chain reaction sequencing-based method. Compared with the control, the frequency of DQA1*03-DQB1*0303, DQA1*05-DQB1*0201, and DQA1*03-DQB1*0401 haplotypes was higher (P0.05-0.01) but DQA1*0102-DQB1*0602 haplotype was lower (P0.01) in T1D patients. DQA1*03 allele was less in the FDRs than in their probands (P0.05). GADA was more prevalent in T1D patients carrying DQA1*05-DQB1*0201 or DQA1*03-DQB1*0401 haplotype (55.8% vs 41.0%, 65.5% vs 40.3%, P0.05-0.01), whereas IA-2A presented more in the patients carrying DQA1*03-DQB1*0303 haplotype (27.0% vs 7.9%, P0.05-0.01), both GADA and IA-2A showed frequently in the patients with DQA1*03-DQB1*0303/DQA1*05-DQB1*0201 haplotypes (34.5% vs 9.7%, P0.01). GADA positivity was lower in the patients with DQA1*0102-DQB1*0602 haplotype (16.7% vs 45.9%, P0.05). The frequency of IAA was not different between patients with and without susceptible DQ haplotypes (P0.05). GADA, IA-2A or IAA presented frequently in FDRs with DQA1*03-DQB1*0303 haplotype. The findings in the study indicate that some of specific HLA-DQA1/-DQB1 genotypes and haplotypes not only confer susceptibility to T1D but also are associated with the presence of the islet autoantibodies in the Han Chinese population.

To observe the leukocyte increasing effects of Shaunghuang Shengbai Granule (SHSBG) in tumor patients treated by chemotherapy (CT) and its function on bone marrow hematopoietic microenvironment in mice.Patients of non-small-cell lung cancer and breast, gastric or intestinal cancer, who were retreated with CT, were enrolled and divided into 4 groups randomly. The 28 cases in the treated group 1 received SHSBG and CT simultaneously. The 27 cases in the treated group 2 also received firstly CT, and SHSBG started when WBC count lowered to less than 4 x 10(9)/L after CT. The control group 1 and 2 (n = 33 and n = 24) was treated by the method similar to that applied to the treated group 1 and 2 respectively but with Rubidate instead of SHSBG. Experimental study of observing bone marrow ultrastructure in mice was also conducted with electron microscopy.The total leukocyte increasing effective rate occurred in the treated group 1 was 75.00%, that in the treated group 2 was 88.89%, in the control group 1 was 54.55% and in the control group 2 was 58.33%. There was significant difference between the treated groups and the control groups (P0.01). Experimental study showed that SHSBG has good bone marrow hematopoietic microenvironmental protecting and improving effect in mice.SHSBG has obvious protecting and treating effect on CT caused bone marrow suppression in tumor patients.

The Tibet air-shower array operating at Yangbajing (4300 m above sea level) is sensitive to gamma-ray air showers at energies as low as 3 TeV. The observation of the Moon’s shadow has provided a direct check of the angular resolution, the energy estimation and the systematic pointing error of this air-shower array. Using these data, we have searched for multi-TeV gamma-ray emission from 27 SNRs located within 10 kpc distance in the declination band of −10° to +70°. The signal from the Crab Nebula was detected at 5.5 σ level. The intensity observed is (4.61±0.90)×10−12 cm−2 s−1 TeV−1 at 3 TeV. No significant DC excess was found from any of these SNRs except from the Crab Nebula.

The BL Lac object Mrk 501 came into a high flaring state in 1997, brightest in the sky at TeV energies. Using the air shower data obtained with a high density part of the Tibet II array, being operating at Yangbajing since 1996, we searched for γ-ray signals from this source during the period from February to August in 1997. The result shows a 3.7σ excess for showers with its mode energy 3 TeV for the whole period and 4.7σ excess for the period from April 7 to June 16. The estimated energy spectrum of γ rays is consistent with those obtained by imaging atmospheric Cherenkov detectors.

The effects of differentiation of human leukemia HL60 cells on harringtonine(Har) and camptothecin(Cam) induced apoptosis(in these cells) were studied. When treated with phorbol 12-myriate, 13-acetate 16 nmol.L-1 for 24 h, the HL60 cells differentiated into monocyte/macrophage cells and were arrested at G1 phase. The differentiated cells were shown to be resistant to the Har and Cam induced apoptosis, but showed no change of expression of c-myc gene. HL60 cells incubated in 1.4% dimethyl sulfoxide for 48 h differentiated into granulocyte cells and were also gene arrested at G1 phase. The differentiated cells became resistant to the apoptosis induced by Cam, but not that by Har, and expression of c-myc decreased drastically in the differentiated cells. The results indicate that the differentiated status of human leukemia HL60 cells apparently affected the apoptosis induced by harringtonine and camptothecin, but it was irrelevant to the change of the expression of c-myc gene.

To study the relationship between expression of oncogenes and multiple drug resistant (MDR) phenotype.The drug resistant level of HL60 cell line and its sublines were determined with flow cytometry. RNA Dot blot hybridization was used to identify the expression of oncogenes and mdr-1 gene.The expression of mdr-1 gene was in the opposite relation with c-myc expression, but in the positive relation with c-H-ras gene expression in the multiple drug resistant cell lines. In non-MDR cell line HL60/RA, the expression levels of mdr-1, c-myc, and c-H-ras were the same as HL60 parental cells.Multiple drug resistance is related to not only mdr-1 expression, but also some oncogenes expression level.

To study the mechanisms of the resistance to harringtonine (Har) in the HL60 cells.Growth inhibition, karyotype analysis, flow cytometry, Western blotting and polymerase chain reaction.The Har-resistant HL60 cell line, named HR20, showed cross resistance to homoharringtonine, doxorubicin, daunorubicin, vincristine, and colchicine. The growth doubling time and the cell numbers in G1 phase were increased. The accumulation of cellular daunorubicin in the resistant cells was obviously reduced, but distinctly increased by tetrandrine and verapamil. The numbers of telocentromeric chromosome increased and the chromosomal aberration more occured in the resistant cells. The resistant cells overexpressed multidrug resistant mdr-1 gene and P-glycoprotein 150 kDa.The Har-resistant HL60 cell strain belonged to a multidrug resistance strain, overexpressing mdr-1 gene and P-glycoprotein.

Using dot blot hybridization and flowcytometry, the effects of differentiation inducers retinoic acid (RA) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on the resistant level of HL-60 cells and its resistant subline cells were studied. When the cells were treated with RA 1 mumol.L-1 for 24 h, the expression of MDR 1 mRNA evidently increased in both HL-60 and its multidrug resistant subline cells. The efflux of Rho-123 in the multidrug resistant subline cells was slightly decreased. But, when the cells were treated with 2% DMSO for 24 h the efflux of Rho-123 increased obviously. The results suggest that RA can induce the expression of MDR1 gene but perhaps inhibit the function of pump glycoprotein 170 (Pgp-170) through phosphorylation/dephosphorylation pathway. However, DMSO could induce the expression of full function of Pgp.

The Tibet ASγ experiment, which has started since January, 1990, is located at an altitude of 4,300m at Yangbaging in Tibet, China (90.5° E, 301° N). The air‐shower array is composed of 49 scintillation counters for fast timing (FT), each counter having an area of 0.5 m2, in a grid pattern with a spacing of 15 m and 16 density detectors. The density detectors surrounding the FT detectors are planned to select the showers of which core are inside the FT array. For the constant and continuous opeation, the system for laser calibration, the ADC,TDC module calibration and the power check system were installed. A Rb clock is used for the phase analysis of γ‐rays.The array is usually operated by the trigger rate of ∼20Hz with any 4‐fold coincidence of the FT detectors. The analysis of experimental data shows that the performance of array is realized as expected by the Monte Carlo simulation. For the events of which core are inside the FT array, are obtained the following results. The detection threshold energy for γ‐rays is ∼40 TeV; the peak energy 20 TeV. The angular resolution around 100 TeV is ∼0.5°. The systematic error of arrival direction is considerably smaller than the angular resolution in the concerned energy region.

The physics of the heat transfer process from the slider of a hard disk drive to its disk is discussed. A generalized heat transfer model, which incorporates various molecular dynamics models, is proposed to solve the heat transfer problem in thin film bearings at head-disk interface. The proposed model considers the impact of molecular collisions between film molecules and solid surfaces, which plays an important role in the heat transfer of thin film bearings and is expected to improve the accuracy of predicting the thermal protrusion caused by the heating of the slider at the head-disk interface of hard disk drives.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 is highly associated with premalignant and malignant anogenital epithelial lesions. The transforming function resides within the viral E7 open reading frame protein. We have defined three immunodominant linear B-epitopes in the E7 protein. In the present study, we determine the contribution of individual amino acid residues to antibody binding of these three epitopes using replacement set analysis. In this approach, each epitope residue is substituted in turn by each of the other 19 genetically encoded amino acids to produce analogues which are tested for specific monoclonal antibody binding. We demonstrate the specificity of the monoclonal antibodies for epitopes of HPV 16 E7 in binding studies using synthetic epitope analogues of other HPV genotypes. Comparison between HPV 16 and other HPV genotypes suggests that variability in amino acid composition at the E7 epitopic sites does not appear to be host-antibody driven.

This paper deals with a 3D time-marching incompressible Navier-Stokes solver using the pseudo-compressibility technique to study the non-Newtonian flow field through mixed-flow water pump impeller. The applicability of the original code has been validated by comparison with Goto's experimental and computational results. Two non-Newtonian models based on Power-law and Casson's relations were further included in the current code to predict the blood flow through the same pump. The non-Newtonian results are compared with Newtonian ones in the laminar flow regime and it is found that the steady flow characteristics of the two fluids are rather similar. This indicates that the influence of non-Newtonian shear thinning behaviour of blood might not be an important factor in determining the general flow patterns through a conventional large-scale mixed-flow water pump as the shear rates are high. But this will not be true for an actual-sized and viscous-dominant centrifugal blood pump. Similar conclusion is obtained with a commercial package, Fluent.

The Tibet air-shower array, being successively operated at an altitude of 4300 m above sea level since 1990, has detected the shadows of the Sun and Moon in the 10 TeV cosmic-ray flux. In particular, the shadow of the Sun was observed in the direction significantly away from the apparent solar position, under the influence of the solar and interplanetary magnetic fields. A further analysis shows that the shadows by cosmic rays coming from the away and toward field sectors in the interplanetary space are shifted in opposite directions to one another according to the polarity of the fields. This is the first direct observation of the influence of the interplanetary magnetic field on the shadow's displacement

A new experiment to observe gamma rays around 100 TeV at Yanbajing (4300 m) in Tibet, China is planned by a collaboration between China and Japan. To study the feasibility of this experiment a test array was built at Mt. Norikura in Japan. Preliminary results from a search for gamma rays from Cyg X-3 and Her X-1 observed by this air shower array showed the upper limit fluxes of 5.6 × 10 −13 cm −2 s −1 and 3.0 × 10 −13 cm −2 s −1 with a 95% confidence level above TeV, respectively. At the first step experiment we will set up 65 scintillation counters in Tibet. An angular resolution of the apparatus will be better than 1° at an energy of 100 TeV. The detectors are monitored by a nitrogen laser system automatically which guarantees a long term quality of the data.

We report on the results of the measurements of energy spectra of atmospheric cosmic rays in the energy around 10 TeV measured with emulsion chambers at Mt. Kanbala (5500 m above sea-level, atmospheric depth 520 g/cm2). The power indices of the integral spectra take the values of 2.00±0.08 for gamma-rays and 1.90±0.10 for hadrons, in the energy range from 5 TeV to 20 TeV. Their intensities are compatible with those expected from the primary cosmic rays containing fewer protons than in the lower energy region. The energy spectrum of family events is also discussed with reference to the composition of primary cosmic rays. It is concluded that the portion of protons in the primary cosmic rays gradually decreases in the energy range from 1013 eV to 1015 eV.

Gross features of gamma families observed at Mt. Kanbala (5500 m above sea level) and Mt. Fuji (3750 m) are summarized in comparison with a Monte Carlo simulation based on a plausible assumption about hadronic interactions and primary composition. Our analysis shows that the assumption of approximate Feynman scaling in the fragmentation region and a heavy-enriched primary composition in the energy range over 10/sup 15/ eV is wholly compatible with the experimental data. That is, there is no evidence of strong violation of Feynman scaling in the fragmentation region at least up to 10/sup 16/ eV. As to the primary cosmic rays, our data infer a steepening of proton spectrum at energies around 10/sup 14/ eV. The proton component in the primary cosmic rays is estimated to occupy 15--20 % of the total flux at 10/sup 15/ eV. Some other interesting implications on hadronic interactions are discussed with reference to the structures of gamma families.

The properties of hadrons and gamma rays in the families observed with the thick-type emulsion chambers at Mt. Kanbala (5500 m above sea level) and Mt. Fuji (3750 m) are presented. The results from both experiments agree well with each other. The correlations were systematically examined between gamma rays and hadrons in the families, and their behavior appears to be almost consistent with a Monte Carlo simulation made on the assumption of the model of hadronic interactions which are scaled smoothly up to about 10/sup 16/ eV in energy from the accelerator data. A search for Centauro candidates has been specially made in the family data obtained both at Mts. Kanbala and Fuji, with negative results. The upper limit of the fraction of such events is estimated to be 3% (95% confidence level) in the hadron families with energy greater than 100 TeV for each experiment. Other interesting results are also discussed on the structure of hadron families.
