This study aims to analyze and describe android-based learning media's role in teaching students critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes. The learning media are Androwebic (android-based webcomic) and E-Bokartumban (e-book on plant diversity in Banjarnegara), developed previously. This research is a qualitative descriptive study involving 301 students, six biology teachers and six high school students. The data collected includes critical thinking skills, analytical skills, scientific attitudes, environmental care attitudes, media components supporting student competence, and teacher and student responses. Data on critical thinking and analytical skills were measured using tests and non-tests. Other data were measured using non-test instruments, including interview guides, scientific attitude observation sheets, students' environmental care attitudes, media component observation sheets, and student and teacher questionnaires. Quantitative data on critical thinking and analytical skills were analyzed using the n-gain test, while other data were descriptively analyzed. The research results showed that the E-Bokartumban and Androwebic components support students' critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and environmental care attitudes. Androwebic can train students' analytical thinking skills and scientific attitude. The two media developed were considered very helpful in the learning process. The study concluded that Android-based media in Androwebic and E-Bokartumban have a vital role in training critical thinking skills, analytical skills, scientific attitudes, and environmental care attitudes.

This study aims to facilitate high school students’ communication skills and critical thinking ability with ICT-oriented problem-based online learning and assessment instrument with HOTS criteria. This research approach is pre-experimental, with the one group pre-test- post-test design. This study involved 36 students of XI MIPA 4 and biology teacher at a high school in Jepara, Indonesia. The number of samples determined using the purposive sampling technique. The data collected includes data on students’ critical thinking skills, students’ communication skills, implementation of the learning process, teacher and student response data regarding teaching materials, and the learning process. Data of critical thinking skills were analyzed using the n-gain test. Other data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results showed that students achieved a critical thinking skill level with N-Gain 0.31 (medium category) and communication skills 83.00 (very good category). The average score of the implementation of the learning process is in a good category, meaning that all syntax is carried out well. Teachers and students consider that ICT-based teaching materials are quite practical to use. According to them, the learning process is in a good category (positive). Conclusion: students’ critical thinking skills and communication skills can be facilitated through online learning with ICT-oriented PBL approach teaching materials and ICT-oriented HOTS assessment instruments.

The aims of this study were to determine (1) the effect of Problem-based Student Worksheet on Human Reproductive Systems upon students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and (2) to analise the contribution of Problem-based Student Worksheet on students’ HOTS. This classroom research used non-equivalent control group design. Population of students involved in this study was approximately 252 grade XI Math and Science students (MIA) from the public senior highschool at Pati, Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 2 Pati in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. Students as research sample were collected by purposive sampling technique, by which MIA 4 students were chosen either as the treated group or the control one. Score of students’ HOTS as dependent variables were collected by written tests consisting of 10 free-response questions. The other dependent variable, namely the scores of problem-solving skills, were measured by questionaires provided by the Problem-based Student Worksheet, administered only for the treated class. Data obtained were analyzed using t-test and correlation test. The findings showed that the Problem-based Student Worksheet affected the students’ HOTS (coefficient value of 0.809). In sum the higher score of problem-solving skills was the higher score of students’ HOTS.

This study aims to describe the results of the socialization of natural experience (jelajah alam sekitar, JAS) approaches on the learning held by science teachers’ members of MGMP IPA sub rayon 04 Kota Semarang through study of learning tools and testimony. This study is a case study that is intended to describe the results of the impact analysis of JAS learning approach socialization to the target audience mentioned above. The results of the study indicate that at the beginning of the activity before the socialization, 62.5% of the participants had known JAS and stated positive things about JAS, such as activating teachers and learners, making it easier to understand biology materials, fun and educate critical thinking students. They have also been able to assess the constraints found in learners, especially on time management. With the socialization of the participants can develop lesson plan and other learning tools that are considered relevant to JAS. Nevertheless, in the application of learning it is difficult to achieve the characteristics and nature of JAS on the use of alternative / authentic assessment, exploration of the surrounding environment, and a fun learning / bioedutainment. The results of reflection and evaluation show that many participants have not been able to change the mind set to view the object of biological study in learning from education about to education for. For that, in the future it is necessary activities that lead to best practice of learning management, classroom action research and collaboration.

The Goals of this research is to analyze smoking behavior and learning outcomes in students of senior High school after receiving learning system of respiration with PjBL. The kind of research is Quasi Experiment with Non Equivalent Control Group design. Two classes as samples taken with purposive sampling. First class with PjBL and second class without PjBL. The methods of it taken data by observation, documentation, tests, questionnaires, and interviews. T-test analysis on smoking behavior and learning outcomes show that the two classes are significantly different. The average of N-gain class PjBL is 0.73 high category and non PjBL class is 0.57 medium category. The result of Product Moment analysis on class PjBL shows that r = 0.580 indicates there is positive correlation of medium category, on non PjBL there is nothing relationship. Based on the results of the study concluded that PjBL on learning respiratory system significantly influence for smoking behavior and learning outcomes in student of senior high school and there is also a positive correlation with moderate category between learning outcomes and smoking behavior in the PjBL class and nothing relationship between learning outcomes and smoking behavior in non-PJBL classes.
