Purpose Enobosarm (EN), a selective androgen receptor modulator and raloxifene (RAL), a selective estrogen receptor modulator, have been shown to improve bone tissue in osteoporotic males. The present study evaluated the effects of a combination therapy of EN and RAL on bone properties in orchiectomized rats compared to the respective single treatments. Methods Eight-month-old male Sprague–Dawley rats were either left intact (Non-Orx) or orchiectomized (Orx). The Orx rats were divided into four groups (n = 15 each): 1) Orx, 2) EN treatment (Orx + EN), 3) RAL treatment (Orx + RAL), 4) combined treatment (Orx + EN + RAL). EN and RAL (0.4 mg and 7 mg/kg body weight/day) were applied immediately after Orx with a soy-free pelleted diet for up to 18 weeks. The lumbar spine and femora were examined by micro-CT, biomechanical, histomorphological, ashing, and gene expression analyses. Results EN exhibited an anabolic effect on bone, improving some of its parameters in Orx rats, but did not affect biomechanical properties. RAL exhibited antiresorptive activity, maintaining the biomechanical and trabecular parameters of Orx rats at the levels of Non-Orx rats. EN + RAL exerted a stronger effect than the single treatments, improving most of the bone parameters. Liver weight increased after all treatments; the kidney, prostate, and levator ani muscle weights increased after EN and EN + RAL treatments. BW was reduced due to a decreased food intake in the Orx + RAL group and due a reduced visceral fat weight in the Orx + EN + RAL group. Conclusion The EN + RAL treatment appeared to be promising in preventing male osteoporosis, but given the observed side effects on liver, kidney, and prostate weights, it requires further investigation.

Ladder-type pentaphenyl chromophores have a rigid, planar π-system and show bright fluorescence featuring pronounced vibrational structure. Such moieties are ideal for studying interchromophoric interactions and delocalization of electronic excitations. We report the synthesis of helical polymers with a rigid square structure based on spiro-linked ladder-type pentaphenyl units. The variation of circular dichroism with increasing chain length provides direct evidence for delocalization of electronic excitations over at least 10 monomeric units. The change in the degree of circular polarization of the fluorescence across the vibronic side bands shows that vibrational motion can localize the excitation dynamically to almost one single unit through breakdown of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The dynamic conversion between delocalized and localized excited states provides a new paradigm for interpreting circular dichroism in helical polymers such as proteins and polynucleic acids.

We adopt an allometric framework of scaling relationships for comparison between mating-related traits in the middle European bushcricket Roeseliana roeselii (Hagenbach, 1822). Eight characters, covering ontogenetic fitness (size traits; fixed at final moult), male condition (mass traits) and mating motivation (reproductive behaviours), were analysed in unrestricted matings and in matings involving genital manipulation. Shortening the male titillators had no effect on mating-related traits in males. However, titillators, known to be under sexual selection, scale hyperallometrically, with larger males possessing proportionally longer titillators, performing more titillator movements and exhibiting a reduced duration of copulation. Scaling was also hyperallometric for spermatophore mass, with larger males being heavier and transferring heavier nuptial gifts. Both titillator length and spermatophore mass might be condition-dependent indicators, because their variances were nearly twice as large those of body size or body mass. Mass traits were also dynamic, increasing by 11% for male body mass and 17% for spermatophore mass between the first and second matings. Sexual selection by female choice seems to favour larger trait size in the bushcricket R. roeselii, acting in concert on titillator length, intensity of titillator movements and spermatophore mass.

Halogenated carboxylic acids have been important compounds in chemical synthesis and indispensable research tools in biochemical studies for decades. Nevertheless, the number of structurally characterized simple &alpha, brominated monocarboxylic acids is still limited. We herein report the crystallization and structural elucidation of (R)- and rac-2-bromo-3-methylbutyric acid (2-bromo-3-methylbutanoic acid, 1) to shed light on intermolecular interactions, in particular hydrogen bonding motifs, packing modes and preferred conformations in the solid-state. The crystal structures of (R)- and rac-1 are revealed by X-ray crystallography. Both compounds crystallize in the triclinic crystal system with Z = 2, (R)-1 exhibits two crystallographically distinct molecules. In the crystal, (R)-1 forms homochiral O&ndash, H&middot, &middot, O hydrogen-bonded carboxylic acid dimers with approximate non-crystallographic C2 symmetry. In contrast, rac-1 features centrosymmetric heterochiral dimers with the same carboxy syn&middot, syn homosynthon. The crystal packing of centrosymmetric rac-1 is denser than that of its enantiopure counterpart (R)-1. The molecules in both crystal structures adopt a virtually identical staggered conformation, despite different crystal environments, which indicates a preferred molecular structure of 1. Intermolecular interactions apart from classical O&ndash, O hydrogen bonds do not appear to have a crucial bearing on the solid-state structures of (R)- and rac-1.

A series of silver(I) camphorsulfonato complexes containing various phosphine ligands having the stoichiometry [Ag(camphSO3)(PR3)] [PR3 = PTA (1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane), PASO2 (2-thia-1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane-2,2-dioxide), PPh3, PCy3, P(CH2CH2CN)3, PPyPh2, or P(o-tol)3] were prepared and fully characterized by NMR spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. Depending on the nature of the phosphine, a variety of different supramolecular structures, including dimers, macrocycles, and coordination polymers, were observed in the solid state. The in vitro antimicrobial activity in seven different pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, Candida albicans, and Cryptococcus neoformans var. grubii) as well as toxicity in human cells was also examined. While all compounds show some activity against the bacteria, they were especially active against the fungus C. neoformans. The most active and at the same time least toxic compound was found to be the water-soluble complex [Ag(camphSO3)(PTA)2].

The primary principle of managing bipolar disorder in late life involves careful oversight of mood stabilizers and antidepressants. Clinicians must monitor clinical symptoms along with side effects of medications, especially when using lithium, as blood levels and specific metabolic parameters must be followed. Lithium-induced hypercalcemia and lithium-associated hyperparathyroidism may develop at any time with lithium treatment, but older adults with renal and vascular impairment may be more vulnerable. Lithium-induced hypercalcemia is diagnosed by sustained elevation of serum calcium levels above the reference range and is believed to occur as a direct effect of lithium altering the set-point of the calcium-sensing cells of the parathyroid glands. Endocrinology referral should be done and treatment may require the calcimimetic drug cinacalcet, but lithium treatment can usually continue for patients who have a good response to it for their bipolar symptoms.

We have identified a 3D network of subchondral microchannels that connects the deep zone of cartilage to the bone marrow (i.e., cartilage-bone marrow microchannel connectors; CMMC). However, the pathological significance of CMMC is largely unknown. Here, we quantitatively evaluated how the CMMC microarchitecture is related to cartilage condition, as well as regional differences in early idiopathic osteoarthritis (OA).Two groups of cadaveric female human femoral heads (intact cartilage vs early cartilage lesions) were identified, and a biopsy-based high-resolution micro-CT imaging was employed. Subchondral bone (SB) thickness, CMMC number, maximum and minimum CMMC size, and the CMMC morphology were quantified and compared between the two groups. The effect of joint's region and cartilage condition was examined on each dependent variable.The CMMC number and morphology were affected by region of the joint, but not by cartilage condition. On the other hand, the minimum and maximum CMMC size was changed by both the location on the joint, as well as the cartilage condition. The smallest CMMC were consistently detected at the load-bearing region (LBR) of the joint. Compared to non-pathological subjects, the size of the microchannels was enlarged in early OA, most noticeably at the non-load-bearing region (NLBR) and the peripheral rim (PR) of the femoral head. Furthermore, subchondral bone thinning was observed in early OA as a localized occurrence linked with areas of partial chondral defect.Our data point to an enlargement of the SB microchannel network, and a collective structural deterioration of SB in early idiopathic OA.

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has evolved into a powerful analytical method in food and environmental analytical sciences due to its high sensitivity. Pesticide analysis is a major discipline therein. Using sustainable materials has become increasingly important to adhere to Green Chemistry principles. Hence, the green textiles poly-(L-lactic acid) (PLA) and the mixed fabric polyethylene terephthalate polyamide (PET/PA) were investigated for their applicability as solid supports for gold nanoparticles to yield SERS substrates. Gold nanoparticle solutions and green textile supports were prepared after preparation optimization. Particle size, dispersity, and particle distribution over the textiles were characterized by absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron imaging. The performance of the SERS substrates was tested using the three pesticides imidacloprid, paraquat, and thiram and a handheld Raman spectrometer with a laser wavelength of 785 nm. The resulting SERS spectra possessed an intra-substrate variation of 7–8% in terms of the residual standard deviation. The inter-substrate variations amounted to 15% for PET/PA and to 27% for PLA. Substrate background signals were smaller with PLA but more enhanced through PET/PA. The pesticides could be detected at 1 pg on PET/PA and at 3 ng on PLA. Hence, PET/PA woven textile soaked with gold nanoparticle solution provides green SERS substrates and might prove, in combination with fieldable Raman spectrometers, suitable for in-field analytics for pesticide identification.

The Cu‐catalyzed reaction of substituted α‐diazoesters with fluoride gives α‐fluoroesters with ee values of up to 95 %, provided that chiral indane‐derived bis(oxazoline) ligands are used that carry bulky benzyl substituents at the bridge and moderately bulky isopropyl groups on their core. The apparently homogeneous solution of CsF in C6F6/hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) is the best reaction medium, but CsF in the biphasic mixture CH2Cl2/HFIP also provides good results. DFT studies suggest that fluoride initially attacks the Cu‐ rather than the C‐atom of the transient donor/acceptor carbene intermediate. This unusual step is followed by 1,2‐fluoride shift; for this migratory insertion to occur, the carbene must rotate about the Cu−C bond to ensure orbital overlap. The directionality of this rotatory movement within the C 2‐symmetric binding site determines the sense of induction. This model is in excellent accord with the absolute configuration of the resulting product as determined by X‐ray diffraction using single crystals of this a priori wax‐like material grown by capillary crystallization., Let's work together: Even though bisoxazolines are privileged ligands in asymmetric catalysis, standard representatives give poor ee values in the copper catalyzed asymmetric fluorination of α‐diazoesters. The outcome was greatly improved, however, upon gem‐benzylation of the bridge, proper substitution of the core, and optimization of the medium. The reaction follows an unusual course in that the incoming fluoride first hits the metal rather than the C‐atom of the transient copper carbene complex.

Three new polymers containing tetraphenylethylene and diphenyl-dinaphthylethylene cores and their corresponding monomeric model compounds were synthesized and fully characterized aiming to investigate their photoluminescence efficiency, microporosity and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller-derived surface areas (SBET). Comprehensive photophysical characterization was undertaken in the solid state (powder and thin films), in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution and in mixtures of “good” and “poor” solvent to induce aggregation (THF:water mixtures). Aggregation induced emission (AIE) was found for the tert-butyl-TPE monomer and polymer and diphenyl-dinaphthylethylene monomer with the increase of the water amount in THF:water mixtures and in the solid state. The tert-butyl substituted TPE derivatives display the highest fluorescence quantum yield (ϕF) values: 0.14 to 0.30 (in powder) and 0.46 to 0.64 in thin films. In contrast, with the diphenyl-dinaphthylethylene (meta and para-phenylene) polymers aggregation caused quenching (ACQ) occurs in THF:water mixtures (ϕF ≤ 0.011) and in the solid state (ϕF ≤ 0.012). The microporosity of the soluble conjugated polymers as potential conjugated polymers of intrinsic microporosity (cPIMs) was further investigated. The SBET of the polymers were related to their optical properties. The polymers show an attractive combination of high SBET surface area (417 m2 g−1) and the occurrence of distinct AIE effects for the tert-butyl-TPE polymer while the diphenyl-dinaphthylethylene polymers do not exhibit microporosity (SBET ≤ 17 m2 g−1) and show ACQ behavior.

The molecular geometry of both compounds in the ground state, vibrational frequencies, and chemical shift were calculated by using the functional density theory method, with B3LYP as functional and 6-31G** as basis set, using the GAUSSIAN 09 program package. With the VEDA 4 program, the vibrational frequencies were allocated in terms of potential energy distribution (PED). The treatment of pediatric femoral shaft fractures has undergone an increasing change in recent years. The previously predominant treatment procedures were extensively replaced by minimally invasive techniques (e.g. elastic stable intramedullary nailing, ESIN). The aim of this study was the comparison of complication rates depending on patient factors as well as various treatment procedures.This study involved a retrospective X‑ray morphometric evaluation of data. The patient files and X‑rays of 101 children who were treated at 2 level I trauma centers were analyzed.Conservative treatment was carried out in 19% of the cases. Among the surgical procedures the ESIN technique was predominant (n = 60). Complications that needed revision occurred in 10% of the children after conservative treatment. Revision surgery had to be carried out in more than 6% of the cases in children who were surgically treated. Among the surgical procedures ESIN stabilization demonstrated the lowest revision rate with only 3%. Children under three years and adolescents had a higher risk for developing complications. If the ESIN wires used were too thin in relation to the diameter of the medullary cavity there was an increased probability of complications of around 30%.This study revealed a moderate risk of complications in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures in children. The risk of complications after external fixation and conservative treatment was the highest in this study. Overall, the ESIN technique showed the lowest risk of complications. The results of this study could confirm the known limitations of the ESIN technique depending on age and body weight.HINTERGRUND: Die Behandlung der Femurschaftfrakturen bei Kindern war in den letzten Jahren einem zunehmenden Wandel unterzogen. Die früher dominierenden Therapieverfahren wurden durch minimal-invasive Techniken (z. B. elastisch stabile intramedulläre Nagelung [ESIN]) weitgehend abgelöst. Ziel der vorliegenden Studie war der Vergleich der Komplikationsraten in Abhängigkeit sowohl von Patientenfaktoren als auch von verschiedenen Behandlungsverfahren.Bei der vorliegenden Arbeit handelt es sich um eine retrospektive röntgenmorphometrische Datenauswertung. Es wurden die Patientenakten und Röntgenbilder von 101 Kindern, die an zwei Level-I-Traumazentren behandelt wurden, ausgewertet.In 19 % der Fälle wurde eine konservative Therapie durchgeführt. Bei den operativen Verfahren dominierte die ESIN-Technik (n = 60). Revisionspflichtige Komplikationen fanden sich nach konservativer Therapie bei ca. 10 % der Kinder. Bei den operativ behandelten Kindern musste in über 6 % der Fälle eine Revisionsoperation durchgeführt werden. Die ESIN-Stabilisierung zeigte bei den operativen Verfahren mit ca. 3 % die niedrigste Revisionsrate. Wurden im Verhältnis zum Markraumdurchmesser zu dünne ESIN-Drähte verwendet, so zeigte sich eine um 30 % höhere Komplikationswahrscheinlichkeit. Bei Kindern unter 3 Jahren und Adoleszenten war die Komplikationswahrscheinlichkeit erhöht.In der durchgeführten Studie zeigt sich ein moderates Komplikationsrisiko bei der Behandlung von Femurschaftfrakturen bei Kindern. Das Komplikationsrisiko nach Fixateur-externe-Anlage und konservativer Behandlung war in dieser Studie am höchsten. Die ESIN-Technik zeigt insgesamt das geringste Komplikationsrisiko. Die vorliegende Arbeit konnte die bekannten Limitationen der ESIN-Technik in Abhängigkeit von Alter und Gewicht bestätigen.

This report examines the first 8 years of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) Education Scholars Program (ESP) to determine the impact of the program on alumni careers and scholarship and their reception of the ESP. The 2-year longitudinal professional development program, launched in 2012, provides foundational knowledge to improve scholarship skills for faculty in psychiatry medical student education. The program is unique among national faculty development programs for psychiatry medical educators in its focus on scholarship and its requirement of completion of a research project in medical education..All 19 graduates of the program were sent a 30-question survey that explored alumni perceptions of the impact of the program on their confidence to engage in educational scholarship and on their careers. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were used to examine responses to the multiple choice and open-ended questions. A PubMed search was used to ascertain papers published by alumni since completion of the program.Graduate survey responses indicated a high level of satisfaction with the key elements of the program. Alumni respondents reported positive perceptions of participation in the program on their careers as well as on their interest, confidence, knowledge, and skills to engage in scholarship. Nine alumni have had scholarly work published since completion of the program.The ADMSEP ESP was highly valued by participants. It fills an important need for faculty in psychiatry medical student education by providing a national professional development program focused on scholarship.

In spinal surgery, surgical site infections (SSI) after dorsal spondylodesis lead to severe short- and long-term complications. Despite various clinical and serological evidence, the detection of a postoperative SSI remains crucial. In this retrospective cohort study, we determined the prognostic value of C-reactive protein (CRP) kinetics after open reduction and dorsal spondylodesis in the development of a SSI.We retrospectively analyzed 192 patients from 2016 to 2018 undergoing open reduction and dorsal spondylodesis with and without SSI for 20 days at a level-I trauma center and assessed their serological and clinical characteristics.On day 7 and 8 after surgery, patients who developed a SSI displayed significantly higher CRP levels. A second peak after the initial maximum of CRP and a restricted failure to decline as well as a maximum CRP of more than 225 mg/l predict an infectious complication with a sensitivity of 92.9%, and a specificity of 78.2%. A binary logistic regression leads to 85.7% and 69.7%, respectively. A one-phase decay exponential regression can predict 75.6% of the variance after the initial peak of CRP.Our study demonstrates a high value of postoperative CRP kinetics in SSI detection after dorsal spondylodesis. Moreover, we observed typical CRP levels with a specific course as indicative predictors that may facilitate an early SSI detection in clinical practice.

Highlights • With the disruption of in-person geriatric psychiatry residency education by the COVID-19 pandemic, the AAGP Teaching and Training Committee sought to rapidly implement a web-based geriatric psychiatry curriculum. • The COVID-19 AAGP Online Trainee Curriculum (aagponline.org/covidcurriculum) consists of approximately 30 video-recorded lectures provided by AAGP members and experts in the field. We developed plans to obtain self-report demographic characteristics of learners and pre-/postsurvey questions assessing perceived changes in knowledge, skills, and attitudes for each module. • The AAGP has acted rapidly to implement an online resource that can supplement geriatric psychiatry education during the pandemic, potentially raise the profile of AAGP, and hopefully inspire more interest in our field., Objective One effect of the COVID-19 pandemic is the disruption of in-person clinical experiences within geriatric psychiatry residency education. Online resources for trainees are needed to fill resultant gaps. Methods The American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) Teaching and Training Committee leadership collaborated with geriatric psychiatry experts to develop a web-based geriatric psychiatry curriculum for psychiatry residents and other learners. In addition, we planned to obtain initial self-report outcomes of the curricular modules. Results The COVID-19 AAGP Online Trainee Curriculum (aagponline.org/covidcurriculum) consists of approximately 30 video-recorded lectures provided by AAGP member experts. A demographic survey and pre-/postsurvey attached to each module allow us to obtain learner characteristics and feedback on each module. Conclusions The Curriculum has the potential to supplement psychiatry residency education during the pandemic and potentially raise the profile of AAGP, with the goal of inspiring interest within geriatric psychiatry. Results of the initial self-report evaluation should be available in 1 year

Periprosthetic fractures of the knee joint are complex injuries and frequently represent a challenge for the surgeon.The aim of this review is to present and discuss the current classification and treatment options for periprosthetic knee fractures.A selective review of the existing literature on periprosthetic fractures around the knee was performed in PubMed. The various classifications and treatment regimens are discussed with respect to the advantages and disadvantages and from this knowledge a new algorithm was developed.The classifications of periprosthetic fractures have changed in recent years and have been replaced by a uniform fracture classification; however, not only the radiological evaluation of the fractures is crucial to determine the treatment regimen for periprosthetic fractures. A thorough evaluation of the inserted endoprosthesis should be carried out in order to be able to decide between the treatment options of osteosynthesis and revision arthroplasty. Treatment options are available for osteosynthesis and revision arthroplasty that enable a safe treatment of these complex injuries.Periprosthetic fractures of the knee joint are complex injuries, requiring a thorough preoperative planning and an interdisciplinary treatment with trauma and endoprosthetic expertise.

The authors conducted a systematic review of the published literature to identify interventions to prevent and/or reduce burnout among medical students and residents. The authors searched 10 databases (from the start of each through September 21, 2016) using keywords related to burnout, medical education, and prevention. Teams of two authors independently reviewed the search results to select peer-reviewed, English language articles describing educational interventions to prevent and/or reduce burnout among medical students and/or residents that were evaluated using validated burnout measures. They assessed study quality using the Medical Education Research Study Quality Instrument and the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. Fourteen studies met inclusion criteria and all used the Maslach Burnout Inventory as at least one measure of burnout. Four were single group pre-post studies, 6 non-randomized two-group studies, and 4 randomized controlled trials. None of the studies were designed specifically to target burnout prevention. In 12 studies, residents were the targeted learners. Six of the 14 studies reported statistically significant changes in burnout scores: 5 reported improvement and 1 reported worsening of burnout. Of the 5 studies that reported statistically significant benefit, 1 studied a complementary and alternative medicine elective, 1 studied the Respiratory One Meditation method, and 3 studied duty hour changes. This review highlights the need for rigorously designed studies in burnout prevention and reduction among residents and especially medical students.

A family of square planar nickel(II) complexes containing N-heterocyclic carbene ligands as well as tridentate, dianionic ligands was prepared by two different methods. The compounds were characterised by various spectroscopic methods and the solid-state structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Electrochemical studies of the compounds are also reported.

The crystal and molecular structures of the bio-based platform chemical furfural (1) and its derivatives furfurylamine (2), 2-furonitrile (3) and 2-methylfuran (4), which are all liquid at ambient temperature, have been determined by in situ cryocrystallography. Compound 1 crystallizes with three molecules in the asymmetric unit (Z′ = 3), which all adopt the syn conformation. Compound 2 crystallizes with two crystallographically distinct molecules in gauche and anti conformers, which are linked by N–H⋯N and N–H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure of 3 is characterized by C–H⋯N interactions between C4 of the furan ring and the nitrile group. Compound 4 was found to crystallize in the non-centrosymmetric space group P42bc with a polar c axis. The molecular structures are compared with results from spectroscopic studies in the literature. Compounds 1–4 show a difference of ca. 14° between the external C–C–C and C–C–O angles to the substituent carbon atom in 2-position of the furan ring. Using this criterion as an indicator for the assignment of the oxygen atom in 2-substituted furan derivatives, a number of crystal structures in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) are called into question.

A series of gold(I) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes containing monoanionic acylchalcogenourea (chalcogen = S, Se) ligands was prepared and characterised by various spectroscopic methods and X-ray diffraction. The compounds were conveniently accessible in good yields through a one-pot reaction involving [AuCl(tht)] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene), the imidazolium salt and the acylchalcogenourea in the presence of excess base. The X-ray diffraction experiments showed that in these complexes, the normally chelating ligands adopt the rare κS/Se-coordination mode in which only the chalcogen is bound to gold.

Refixation with resorbable implants is a common surgical treatment in patients who suffer an injury with shearing of an osteochondral flake due to trauma of the knee or the upper ankle joint. To date there are no studies which outline long-term outcomes for this procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results after refixation with resorbable polylactide (PLLA) implants.In this retrospective study 12 patients with 13 injuries were examined 13.9 years (±1.2 years) after refixation of an osteochondral fragment of the knee (10 patients) and the upper ankle joint (2 patients) with a mean size of 3.33 cmAfter 13.9 years (±1.2) the patients with an injury of the knee as well as of the upper ankle joint showed good to excellent results (knee: VASS 1.2 (±1.7), Tegner 4.4 (±1.3), Lysholm 85.7 (±12.2), McDermott 90.7 (±8.6), KSS 189 (±14.2), WOMAC (6.16% (±8.45)) (upper ankle joint: VASS 2.5 (±2.5), Tegner 5.5 (±1.5), Lysholm 87 (±13), McDermott 88 (±12); WOMAC (8.54% (±8.54), AOFAS 75.5 (±24.5), FADI+Sports 118 (±18)). In all cases there was evidence of good integration of the osteochondral fragment in MRI. In five patients there was moderate subchondral cyst formation (∅ ≤1 mm); however, mild changes of the cartilage contour were found in all patients. The mean modified Henderson score achieved was 14.4 (±2.0, best 8, worst 32), which corresponds to a good morphological result.Because of good clinical and morphological results shown by MRI, refixation through resorbable implants (PLLA) can be recommended for treatment of traumatic osteochondral flakes.
