The rooftop rainwater harvesting means the collection of water through the rooftop of the house or any other structure. This system consists of three basic components such as catchment area, conveyance system and storage facilities. The tank is the most expensive and critical component of a rainwater harvesting system. The volume of the tank determines the reliability of the system operation and the satisfaction of the water needs of the farm. The study was conducted at the individual farm in Mitkunai village, to find the optimum size of the storage tank for harvested runoff from the rooftop of the farm building, in years of different humidity. The precipitation data of Kaunas district for 10 years was analyzed for the water harvesting potential. In the calculations, the water demand for the vegetation period is taken according to the quantities specified by the farmer, regardless of the amount of precipitation. After the calculations, it is determined that rainwater harvesting potential is 23.6 m3 in dry years, which can meet around 22 % of the farm water requirements, when catchment area is 100 m2. In humid and wet years, increasing the volume of the tank to 6 and 9 m3 is not useful, since the water needs of the farm exceed the inflow into the tank and at the end of each month all the water from the tank will be used up. While the catchment area is 200 m2 in dry years, during the vegetation period, 43 % of the accumulated water could be met, and in wet years, 65 % of the total specified water demand of the farm. If the size of the catchment area is 200 m2, the size of storage tank capacity varies from 14 m3 dry years to 53 m3 wet years, respectively. Since precipitation varies in years of different humidity, it is difficult to determine the optimal volume of the tank and evaluate the reliability of the system. But as can be seen from the study, the volume of the tank mainly depends on the amount of precipitation, the roof area and the farm's water demand. Keywords: Rainwater harvesting, Rooftop, Water storage tank.
