Sr2SiO4:%3Nd3+ was synthesized and its structural characterization was made via XRD technique. The results indicated that Sr2SiO4:%3Nd3+ had Pmma (62) space group (PDF: 00-039-1256) in the orthorhombic crystal system. Luminescence and thermoluminescence (TL) properties of Sr2SiO4:%3Nd3 was investigated in detail. Computerized glow curve deconvolution methods was used for to determine the kinetic properties of Sr2SiO4:%3Nd3+. The TL results showed that Sr2SiO4:Nd3+ consisted of seven TL glow peaks.

In this study, thermoluminescence characteristics of un-doped and Dy-doped calcium tetraborate (CaB4O7) compounds are reported. The polycrystalline powder samples of un-doped and Dy-doped CaB4O7 were prepared by a solid-state reaction at high-temperature method. The identification and characteristics of the obtained compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared analysis, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The glow curves were obtained using a thermoluminescent reader. Neutron sensitivity, dose–response, and heating rate of CaB4O7 compounds were determined by using a bare 252Cf mixed neutron + gamma (n + γ) source, and dose response results are compared to those of Harshaw TLD-600 and TLD-700 neutron dosimeters (6LiF:Mg,Ti and 7LiF:Mg,Ti). The sensitivity of CaB4O7:Dy (0.5%) sample is approximately 4.35 and 3.36 times higher than that of TLD-600 and TLD-700, respectively.

The TL kinetic parameters of MgB4O7: Dy were studied by computer glow curve deconvolution (CGCD) method. The glow curve structures of 1% Dy doped magnesium tetraborate compound consists of at least five glow peaks with a main dosimetric peak at about 220 degrees C. The highest sensitivity which is approximately 1.90 and 1.47 times higher than that of TLD-600 and TLD-700 was found for MgB4O7: Dy (1 mol%). The results clearly showed that Dysprosium doped magnesium borate has a potential to be considered as the thermoluminescence neutron + gamma dosimeter. Sr4-xAl14O25:xEu(3+) (x varies from 0.02 to 0.06) phosphors were prepared at high temperature via solid-state method. The crystal structure of Sr4Al14O25:Eu3+ was determined to be orthorhombic crystal system with Pmmm space group. The excitation spectrum of Sr3.96Al14O25:0.04Eu(3+) shows four excitation bands at 308 nm, 360 nm, 383 nm, and 411 nm, respectively. The first excitation band, which is centered at 308 nm, is assigned to the charge-transfer (CTLM) band of Eu3+-O-2, and others are assigned to intra-4f transitions between 393 nm and 450 nm. The emission spectrum of Sr3.96Al14O25:0.04Eu(3+) exhibits a series of emission bands which are attributed to the D-5(0)-F-7(j) (j = 0-4) transitions of Eu3+ ions. The luminescence studies revealed that the Eu3+ ions show high luminescence efficiency in emitting red light at 616 nm. The thermo-luminescence glow curve of Sr3.96Al14O25:0.04Eu(3+) shows three overlapped glow peaks between 100 degrees C and 400 degrees C which are related to the defects at different trap depths. One of the selected glow curves was analyzed by using glow curve deconvolution (GCD) method. Ca1-xMoO4:xEu3+ (x varies from 0.02 to 0.07) phosphors were prepared via complex polymerization method (CPM). It was determined that CaMoO4:Eu3+ has powellite crystal structure with space group ??41/?? (No.88). The cell parameters are ?? = ?? = 5.217 A and ?? = 11.414 A. The intense bands observed in the excitation spectrum of Ca0.95MoO4:0.05Eu3+ at 240 nm and 281 nm belong to the charge transfer transition in O2− → Mo6+ and O2− → Eu3+ groups and these bands overlap with each other. Aside from these bands, five other bands were observed in the excitation spectrum between 350 and 500 nm that belong to 7F0→5D4, 7F0→5G4, 7F0→5L6, 7F0→5D2, 7F0→5D2 electronic transitions of Eu3+. The emission spectrum of Ca0.95MoO4:0.05Eu3+ exhibits a series of emission bands between 550 nm and 750 nm that can be attributed to the 5D0→7Fj (j = 0–4) transitions of Eu3+ ions. The thermoluminescence properties of Ca0.95MoO4:0.05Eu3+ were investigated in detail and the glow curves were analyzed via glow curve deconvolution (GCD) method. The results showed that Ca0.95MoO4:0.05Eu3+ was composed of four general order TL glow peaks. The f(D) function was investigated at a heating rate of 1 °C/s and the linear (f(D) = 1) behavior of the curves at very low doses was found to be followed by a supralinear (f(D) > 1) behavior up to nearly 102 Gy.

WOS: 000463124800002, 30684902, It is worth to continuous and systematic investigations related with magnesium tetraborate (MBO) due to its attractive candidate for dosimetric application. The study was done to develop new phosphor with adding strontium (Sr) into MBO which was prepared by the simple high temperature solid state method. Its main dosimetric properties, like glow curve structure, dose response, trapping parameters and fading, were investigated for the first time in the literature. The experimental results indicated that Sr doped MBO ensured essential characteristics for applicability in medical dosimetry, except for the fading (45% lost in 7 days) feature. It had main glow peak with highest intensity at nearly 200 degrees C with good linearity of the dose response up to 1150 Gy. The Sr4Al14O25:Eu2+ and Sr4Al14O25:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors were prepared by the conventional solid state method. The structural characterization, surface morphology and the thermoluminescence properties of these phosphors were studied and then the obtained results were compared. The crystal structure of the Sr4Al14O25:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor was determined as orthorhombic crystal system with Pmmm space group with unit cell parameters of a=24.7746 A, b=8.4949 A, and c=4.8819 A; α=β=γ=90°; and V=1027.438 (A)3. Both Eu2+ and Eu2+/Dy3+ co-doped phosphors have similar XRD pattern because of a little amount of doping ions. The thermoluminecence properties of these phosphors were investigated and the results were also compared. The results have proved that the total peak intensity for Eu2+ and Dy3+ co-doped phosphor is higher than that of Eu2+ doped. The trap parameters which are mainly activation energy (Ea), the frequency factor (s) and the order of the kinetics (b) were evaluated by using the computerized glow curve deconvolution (CGCD) method. The calculated trap depths are in the range from 0.55 to 1.27 eV.

Outpatient endometrial sampling, using the Pipelle endometrial biopsy device, is an alternative procedure for dilatation of the cervix and curettage (D&C). In this study we compared the reliability of the Pipelle with D&C, in women with pre and post menopausal bleeding and 90.3 % was considered to be successful. Insufficent material was obtained in22.6 % of cases with Pipelle whereas with D&C 12.9% provided inadequate tissue. The Pipelle is associated with minimal pain, haemorrage, does not require anesthesia and is much cheaper, acceptable and convenient for most patients. Our results show that this method can be used for outpatient endometrial sampling

The dosimetric characteristics of many TL materials are influenced by changes in location, size and shape of the glow curves due to changes in the heating rate. In this study, the effect of heating rate on the integrated peak areas of CaF 2 :Dy (TLD-200), CaF 2 :Tm (TLD-300) and CaF 2 :Mn (TLD-400) crystals have been investigated after β-irradiation. It was observed that the peak temperatures of all peaks shifted to the high temperature sides and the integrated peak areas decrease as the heating rate increases due to thermal quenching, whose efficiency increases as temperature increases.

The thermoluminescent (TL) properties such as glow curve structure, relative thermoluminescence sensitivity, dose response linearity of lithium fluoride thermoluminescent dosimeters 6LiF:Ti,Mg (TLD-600) and 7LiF:Ti,Mg (TLD-700) are investigated after irradiation 252Cf neutron+gamma and 90Sr-90Y beta sources at room temperature and then the obtained results are compared. The kinetic parameters, namely the order of kinetics b, activation energy and the frequency factor s, are calculated using the computerized glow curve deconvolution (CGCD) program. The effect of heating rate on the glow curves of dosimeters is also investigated. The maximum TL peak intensities and the total area under the glow curves decrease with the increasing heating rate. There is no agreement with the kinetic parameters calculated by the CGCD program for both radiation sources.

Chemically deposited cadmium sulphide (CdS) films have been grown on glass at 60 degrees C and annealed at nitrogen atmosphere at different temperatures. The as-deposited film shows a mix phase of cubic and hexagonal. Once the film subjected to annealing the hexagonal phase becomes dominant and the crystal size increases due to these changes optical band gap energy decreases from 2.44 to 2.28 eV. The electrical conductivity increases depending on temperature and the film annealed at 423 K shows the highest conductivity. Thermoluminescence (TL) intensity of the films was measured after irradiating the films with Sr-90/Y-90 beta-source and the trap depths were calculated after the TL curves deconvoluted by using the computer glow curve deconvolution (CGCD) method. It is observed that the as-deposited film has three different trap depths, at around 0.257, 0.372, and 0.752 eV corresponding to 383, 473, and 608 K, respectively. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. The thermoluminescence properties of CaF2:Tm (TLD-300) are examined in detail after β-irradiation at room temperature. The glow curve of the sample shows two main dosimetric glow peaks: P3 (at ~150°C) and P5 (at ~250°C). The additive dose, variable heating rate, computer glow curve deconvolution, peak shape and three points methods are used to evaluate the trapping parameters, namely the order of kinetics (b), activation energy (E) and frequency factor (s) associated with the dosimetric thermoluminescent glow peaks (P3 and P5) of CaF2:Tm (TLD-300) after different dose levels with β-irradiation.
