Abstract

The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a state-of-the-art facility for studying the strong force, is expected to begin commissioning its first experiments in 2028. This is an opportune time for artificial intelligence (AI) to be included from the start at this facility and in all phases that lead up to the experiments. The second annual workshop organized by the AI4EIC working group, which recently took place, centered on exploring all current and prospective application areas of AI for the EIC. This workshop is not only beneficial for the EIC, but also provides valuable insights for the newly established ePIC collaboration at EIC. This paper summarizes the different activities and R&D projects covered across the sessions of the workshop and provides an overview of the goals, approaches and strategies regarding AI/ML in the EIC community, as well as cutting-edge techniques currently studied in other experiments.

Abstract

The detection, identification, and localization of illicit radiological and nuclear material continue to be key components of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security efforts around the world. Networks of radiation detectors deployed at strategic locations in urban environments have the potential to provide continuous radiological/nuclear (R/N) surveillance and provide high probabilities of intercepting threat sources. The integration of contextual information from sensors such as video, Lidar, and meteorological sensors can provide significantly enhanced situational awareness, and improved detection and localization performance through the fusion of the radiological and contextual data. In this work, we present details of our work to establish a city-scale multi-sensor network testbed for intelligent, adaptive R/N detection in urban environments, and develop new techniques that enable city-scale source detection, localization, and tracking.

Abstract

18. Justification of bioactivated grain triticale use in alcohol production

Abstract

Triticale accounts for the biggest share in gross processing and state procurement of grain in Belarussian production of alcohol. The main difficulty in its processing is the formation of viscous technological fluids due to the presence of non-starch polysaccharides in its chemical composition. All measures taken to solve the problem come down to the selection of the efficient enzyme preparations, hydrolyzing grain polymers into low molecular weight compounds, which have the ability to be disposed by the yeast cells and form the ethyl alcohol. But grain own enzymes are not involved. It is possible to solve the problem by means of biological activation, which will activate grain enzyme systems and partially hydrolyze grain polymers into low molecular weight compounds. The article considers general and special technological parameters of six cultivars of triticale selected in the Republic of Belarus: Antos, Kastus, Dubrava, Run, Prometheus, Impulse. The authors determined that the most promising cultivars for bioactivation and food grade ethyl alcohol production are Antos and Dubrava. The authors explored the possibility of using hot soaking of triticale grain for the biological activation. They also showed the advantages of introduction of amaranth green mass in the amount of 8% during hot soaking for the reduction of grain microbiological contamination. They studied the changes in the technological properties of triticale cultivars Antos and Dubrava after the bioactivation with the green mass of amaranth. The authors determined that grain microbiological characteristics improved, the activity of grain enzymes increased, proportion of low molecular weight compounds in the chemical composition increased. They studied the processes taking place during wort and mash production from the bioactivated triticale grain. The authors showed that the processing of bioactivated triticale grain resulted in the production of wort with higher concentration of dry matter which allowed to increase the ethanol content in the mature mash produced from triticale cultivar Antos by 19.5% and from the triticale cultivar Dubrava by 29.3% and reduce the total quantity of the main impurities in distillates.

Abstract

In this work, we report on the synthesis, in-depth crystal structure studies as well as optical and magnetic properties of newly synthesized heterometallic quaternary selenides of the Eu+2Ln+3Cu+1Se3 composition. Crystal structures of the obtained compounds were refined by the derivative difference minimization (DDM) method from the powder X-ray diffraction data. The structures are found to belong to orthorhombic space groups Pnma (structure type Ba2MnS3 for EuLaCuSe3 and structure type Eu2CuS3 for EuLnCuSe3, where Ln = Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho and Y) and Cmcm (structure type KZrCuS3 for EuLnCuSe3, where Ln = Tm, Yb and Lu). Space groups Pnma and Cmcm were delimited based on the tolerance factor t’, and vibrational spectroscopy additionally confirmed the formation of three structural types. With a decrease in the ionic radius of Ln3+ in the reported structures, the distortion of the (LnCuSe3) layers decreases, and a gradual formation of the more symmetric structure occurs in the sequence Ba2MnS3 → Eu2CuS3 → KZrCuS3. According to magnetic studies, compounds EuLnCuSe3 (Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho and Tm) each exhibit ferrimagnetic properties with transition temperatures ranging from 4.7 to 6.3 K. A negative magnetization effect is observed for compound EuHoCuSe3 at temperatures below 4.8 K. The magnetic properties of the discussed selenides and isostructural sulfides were compared. The direct optical band gaps for EuLnCuSe3, subtracted from the corresponding diffuse reflectance spectra, were found to be 1.87– 2.09 eV. Deviation between experimental and calculated band gaps is ascribed to lower d states of Eu2+ in the crystal field of EuLnCuSe3, while anomalous narrowing of the band gap of EuYbCuSe3 is explained by the low-lying charge-transfer state. Abstract

Detecting and anticipating global proliferation expertise and capability evolution from unstructured, noisy, and incomplete public data streams is a highly desired, but extremely challenging task. In this article, we present our pioneering data-driven approach to support the non-proliferation mission to detect and explain the evolution of proliferation expertise and capability development globally from terabytes of publicly available information (PAI), focusing on our knowledge extraction pipeline and descriptive analytics. We first discuss how we fuse nine open-source data streams, including multilingual data, to convert 4 TB of unstructured data to structured knowledge and encode dynamically evolving proliferation expertise representations - content and context graphs. For this, we rely on natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning (DL) models to perform information extraction, topic modeling, and distributed text representation (aka embedding) learning. We then present interactive, usable, and explainable descriptive analytics to refine domain knowledge and present it in a human-understandable form. Finally, we introduce future work avenues that will leverage our dynamic knowledge representations and descriptive analytics to enable predictive and prescriptive inferences to achieve real-time domain understanding and contextual reasoning about global proliferation expertise and capability evolution.

Abstract

Ukrainian education faced the difficult challenges. The article deals with solutions to problems of teaching English for Specific Purposes in wartime. Attention is drawn to the content of training future specialists in the field of mediation, social workers, administrative management. The necessity of self-assessment is confirmed. It is noted that scientists classify the term “individualization” differently, however, all of them believe that individualization in education allows foreign language teachers in higher education institutions to meet modern requirements of today, and to carry out sufficient educational process. Українську освіту спіткали складні труднощі. Стаття розкриває рішення проблем навчання англійської мови для професійних потреб під час війни. Увага приділяється змісту навчання майбутніх фахівців у галузі медіації, соціальної сфери, адміністративного менеджменту. Обґрунтовано необхідність самооцінювання. Зазначається, що вчені класифікують термін «індивідуалізація» по-різному, однак усі вони переконані, що індивідуалізація в освіті дозволяє викладачам іноземної мови у ЗВО працювати відповідно до вимог сучасності та здійснювати процес навчання на високому рівні. Автори дослідили емоційний стан студентів Національного технічного університету України «Київський політехнічний інститут імені Ігоря Сікорського», факультет соціології і права та запропонували індивідуально-ситуативне навчання. Індивідуальноситуативне навчання включає діяльність, відносини, вплив, знання та ресурси, які спрямовані на підтримку розвитку студентів, включаючи впевненість та мотивацію. Також автор переконує, що рівень мотивації та атмосфера є необхідною умовою для успішного навчання. Виокремлено важливість самостійного виправлення помилок та доведено їх ефективність крізь призму реформування педагогічної освіти. Наголошено на значущості ролі вчителя англійської мови як ключової домінанти, яка забезпечує дружню атмосферу. Результати засвідчили, що студенти, які були задіяні в індивідуально-ситуативному навчанні, показали вищий рівень впевненості та вмотивованості. Було зроблено висновок, що індивідуально-ситуативне навчання є важливою складовою освітнього процесу. Використання цього виду навчання дає можливості для вдосконалення навичок говоріння та аудіювання, підвищує рівень впевненості

37. The study of the impact of introduction of precision farming technologies on the main production and economic indicators at agriculture organizations.

Abstract

The economic efficiency of using precision farming technologies has not been profoundly studied by domestic and foreign scientists. The purpose of the study is to analyze and assess the impact of the use of precision farming technologies on the level of consumption of the main types of resources used and the main economic indicators of agricultural organizations. To reach the aim and objectives of the study, 41 agricultural organizations of the Sverdlovsk Oblast were analyzed, a system of indicators was proposed to assess the effectiveness of these technologies. The most widespread technologies are satellite vehicle monitoring systems. Their use makes it possible to have a fuel consumption saving of 6.3%, the total economic effect is 60.8 thousand rubles, and their payback period is 0.64 years. The use of precision farming technologies gives savings of 1.1% in seed consumption, fertilizers - 3.1%, plant protection products - 3.6% and fuel consumption - 6.3%. The most widespread technologies are precision farming, which are relatively easy to use, do not require profound training and material investments, and have a short payback period. The use of these technologies allows to have an increase in profitability of up to 2.3 percentage points if all vehicles are equipped with technologies of satellite monitoring, parallel driving, etc. In general, the group of studied organizations have an increase in profitability of 0.78 percentage points.
