Abstract

The Theory plug-in enables modellers to extend the mathematical modelling notation for Event-B, with accompanying support for reasoning about the extended language. Previous version of the Theory plug-in has been implemented based on Rodin 2.x. This presentation outline the main improvements to the The- ory plug-in, to be compatible with Rodin 3.x, in terms of both reliability and us- ability. We will also present the changes that were needed in the Rodin core to accommodate the Theory plug-in. 3. XPS Investigation of Indium-Saving Indium–Tin Oxide (ITO) Thin Films.

Abstract

Indium–tin oxide (ITO) thin films with reduced to 50 mass.% indium oxide content are grown by direct current (DC) sputtering of ITO target in mixed argon–oxygen atmosphere onto glass substrates preheated at 523 K. The films showing the best electrical properties are subsequently heattreated in air at temperatures of 523 and 623 K for 60 min. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) are used for samples’ characterization. Effects of oxygen-flow rate, Sn content, and heat-treatment temperature on electronic properties are studied and discussed. XPS measurements show that indium is in In3 charge state, and tin is only in Sn4+ state in indium-saving ITO thin films sputtered at different conditions and heat-treated at different temperatures. As-deposited indium-saving ITO thin film sputtered at 0.5 cm3 STP/min oxygen-flow rate, which demonstrates the highest conductivity among the as-deposited thin films, shows the highest relative intensity of OII peak. The electron density of states increases when going from indium-saving thin film to typical ITO one. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

High power lasers such as NIF in the USA or LMJ in France are being developed for inertial confinement fusion applications. However, the performance of the optics is limited by laser-induced damage (LID), which occurs, for instance, in the potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4 or KDP) crystals utilized for frequency conversion. An accurate equation of state (EOS) is required to explain the LID process and to predict damage size. For the design of such EOS, a pulsed electron beam was used to generate a quasi-plane stress wave of 0.7 GPa in KDP. The sample response was deduced from photonic Doppler velocimetry. Equations of state and deviatoric stress components are designed and compared to experimental data. They are used in laser-induced bulk damage simulations, showing that strength may play a significant role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Nck is a small adaptor protein consisting exclusively of three SH3 domains and one SH2 domain. Nck is thought to have an important role in cell signalling by coupling receptor tyrosine kinases, via its SH2 domain, to downstream SH3-binding effectors. We report here that angiotensin II, working through the AT1 receptor subtype, stimulates the phosphorylation of Nck in rat aortic smooth muscle cells. Phosphopeptide mapping analysis revealed that Nck is phosphorylated on four peptides containing exclusively phosphoserine in quiescent cells. Treatment with angiotensin II resulted in increased phosphorylation of these four peptides, without the appearance of new phosphopeptides. We show that Nck, via its SH3 domains, specifically binds three major phosphoproteins of 95, 82 and 66 kDa both in vitro and in intact cells. Notably, the phosphorylation of these Nck-binding proteins was found to increase in parallel with that of Nck on stimulation by angiotensin II. One candidate for the 66 kDa phosphoprotein is the serine/threonine kinase p21-activated kinase 1 (Pak1), which was found to form a stable complex with Nck in aortic smooth muscle cells. We have also identified the gamma2 isoform of casein kinase I as another protein kinase that associates with Nck in these cells. These findings indicate that Nck is a target of G-protein-coupled receptors and suggest a role for Pak1 and casein kinase I-gamma2 in downstream signalling or regulation of the AT1 receptor.

Abstract

A thermodynamic study on arsenic and antimony in the Cu-O system was used to understand the elimination of the two impurities during the blister stage of copper refining. Within the Cu-O-As and Cu-O-Sb systems, the phase relations in the miscibility gap composed of liquid slag and copper at 1 523 K was established by the quenching technique. The activities were measured under the same conditions by the Knudsen cell- mass spectrometer method. Abstract

The distribution of gold, silver and platinum between a sulphur- deficient matte and an iron alloy was studied under laboratory conditions. Both the sulphur-deficient matte and the iron alloy may be produced when smelting concentrates under reducing conditions using coke as a fuel, or when treating concentrates containing coal. The iron alloy may be saturated with carbon, and/or contain significant quantities of arsenic or antimony. Samples for analysis were obtained from the melts by the quenching method. Abstract

A 34-year old woman, with a 3 yr history of severe seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin antibodies, developed a massive anterior myocardial infarction and ischemia of the lower extremities, with disseminated intravascular coagulation resulting from extensive tissue damage. Seven days after admission, she died of severe heart failure complicated by ventricular fibrillation. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of fatal acute antiphospholipid syndrome in RA.
