Preterm births comprise all pregnancies coming to an end before the gestational age of 37 weeks and remain the leading cause of death in children under 5 years old despite efforts to reduce their occurrence. We aim to analyze all morbidity and mortality data to understand causes and risk factors, helping in prevention efforts. This study includes 140 cases collected during 2018–2022. Demographic, maternal, and thanatogenetic data were statistically analyzed. We observed an upward slope of stillborn babies. In the case of live-born premature, the average survival was 301.76 h. The multivariate analysis noted that extremely low birth weight (HR = 5.141) and very low birth weight (HR = 4.177) are risk factors involved in mortality. Increased parity was associated with premature births with low and very low birth weight (p = 0.019). We observed that a mother's age of over 30 years is predictable for the development of pregnancy-induced hypertension. Cerebral and pulmonary hemorrhages were the most common intermediate morbid conditions, with prematurity and plurivisceral hemorrhages serving as their root causes. We have identified that anthropometric measurements have a high predictability on malformed babies. The identified associations indicate a shared mechanism for certain lesion processes, which can help optimize resources for predicting and preventing preterm neonatal issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: Renal cell carcinomas and upper tract urothelial carcinomas are types of malignancies that originate in the kidneys. Each of these examples shows an increasing trend in the frequency and the mortality rate. This study aims to comprehensively define carcinomas by analyzing clinical, paraclinical, and histological aspects to predict aggressiveness and mortality. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective investigation on a group of patients suspected of kidney cancers. Results: We identified 188 cases. We observed a higher mortality rate and older age in individuals with urothelial carcinomas. Anemia, acute kidney injury, hematuria, and perineural invasion were the main risk factors that predicted their mortality. Tumor size in renal cell carcinomas correlates with the presence of necrosis and sarcomatoid areas. Factors that indicate a higher rate of death are older age, exceeding the renal capsule, a lesion that includes the entire kidney, lymphovascular invasion, acute kidney injury, and anemia. Conclusions: Even if they originate at the renal level, and the clinical–paraclinical picture is similar, the histopathological characteristics make the difference. In addition, to these are added the previously mentioned common parameters that can represent important prognostic factors. In conclusion, the characteristics commonly identified in one type of cancer may act as risk factors for the other tumor. Background: Glomus tumor is a benign but rapidly growing mesenchymal tumor that is a rare in the gastrointestinal tract, can be locally invasive due to its rapid growth, and can result in perforation of a viscus. We report a 65-yearold man presenting as an emergency with gastric hemorrhage and gastric glomus tumor. Case Report: A 65-year-old man came to our hospital for a life-threatening upper digestive hemorrhage. The preoperative examinations (digestive endoscopy without sampling of biopsy fragments and contrast-enhanced computer tomography) led to the presumptive diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Wedge resection of the gastric wall was performed. The histopathological examinations revealed a proliferation of round-oval cells of medium size with a solid disposition and in nests. This proliferation dissected the muscular tunic and caused ulceration of the gastric mucosa. Immunohistochemical tests confirmed the diagnosis of glomus tumor and excluded other diagnoses (neuroendocrine tumor or gastrointestinal stromal tumor). The postoperative evolution was favorable, and at the time of discharge, the biochemical test values normalized. Conclusions: Pathologists are faced with a challenging task due to the deceptive appearance that can be presented by such a rare tumor. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations are essential in achieving a precise diagnosis and assessing the biological potential of the glomus tumor. Even if it is a benign tumor, the clinical picture it causes can still be a major risk to the patient's life. Melanoma is a tumor developed by malignancy of melanocytes, being one of the most lethal cancers. Usually, it is associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiations, being most common in the skin, but can also be located extracutaneously as in the digestive tract, leptomeninges or uvea. Histopathologically it presents a phase of radial growth and a vertical one, often accompanied by an intra and peritumoral inflammatory infiltrate. Immunohistochemically, the confirmation of the diagnosis of melanoma should be accompanied by the assessment of proteomic markers of lymphocytic infiltrate such as PD-L1, CD4 and CD8. The aim of this study was to develop an electrochemical procedure for the advanced detection of tetracycline (TC) in water using CoAl2O4 dispersed onto carbon nanofiber-epoxy composite electrode substrate, which was selected from a series of tested carbonbased electrode substrates, i.e., commercial glassy-carbon and boron-doped diamond electrodes and home-made carbon nanotubeepoxy and carbon nanofiber-epoxy composites. Carbon nanofiber-epoxy composite electrode was found the best host for CoAl2O4 modifier based on the electrocatalytic effect towards TC oxidation and detection using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The electrochemical techniques applied for electrochemical detection applications were CV, differential-pulse voltammetry (DPV), square-wave voltammetry (SWV) and chronoamperometry (CA). All the tested electrochemical techniques allowed TC determination and the electroanalytical parameters varied related to the technique type. DPV operated at the step potential of 50 mV and the modulation amplitude of 200 mV allowed the lowest limit of detection of 9 nM for TC determination. The recovery test applied for real surface water spiked with known TC concentrations among the reproducibility and the repeatability showed the great potential for the advanced quantitative determination of TC in real water or in pharmaceutical formulations. We briefly studied the adsorption behavior of chitosan impregnated with an ionic liquid (1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride) in solutions with Cs+and Sr2+ions. The impregnation of chitosan was realized by ultrasonication method. The impregnated chitosan was analyzed by FTIR, SEM, and EDX in order to show that the chitosan was impregnated with the studied IL. The adsorptive properties of ionic liquid-impregnated chitosan for the removal of Cs+and Sr2+ions from aqueous solutions were studied in a batch adsorption system. The adsorption kinetic was found to follow a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The experimental data showed good fit to the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption properties of the chitosan impregnated with the studied ionic liquid were determined in binary, tertiary, and quaternary systems. The adsorption capacity of the IL impregnated chitosan is not significant influenced in the binary systems. The adsorption capacity of the IL impregnated chitosan decreases with the increase of the number of the cation present in solutions. Treatment of colored water before discharged is an important issue in order to avoid certain hazards and environmental problems. In contrast with the conventional methods of dyes removal the adsorption techniques is the most versatile and widely used, in special when the adsorbent could easily be removed through magnetic separation. Therefore in order to accomplish these conditions in the present paper was obtained zinc ferrite to be used as adsorbent in the treatment process of waste waters containing dyes. The nanocrystalline zinc ferrite was obtained after a heating treatment of the zinc ferrioxalate coordination compound, as precursor, at 500°C.
