The paper is focused on the issue of assessing the quality of transport connectivity on a predesignated transport network in regular public passenger transport at a regional scale. Comprehensively, using the defined key qualitative indicators, it assesses the performance of passenger transport timetables. The objective of this manuscript was to propose a new unified methodology to assess the passenger transport timetables in terms of transport connectivity, and subsequently to complexly evaluate the whole predesignated regional transport network from a qualitative point of view. In this paper, the proposed methodology is demonstrated on a particular regional transport network, specifically an existing railway network in the Czech Republic, whereby the data related to regional passenger transport timetables for a certain day is an input factor. The purpose of this study was to design and verify a draft methodological procedure to assess the quality of transport connectivity on a certain transport network, thus moving towards more effective evaluation of integrated transport systems.

The subject of this article is to model and streamline processes in the area of the transport-supply logistics in a specific enterprise. The topic of the manuscript was implemented in a particular enterprise with the residence in the city of České Budějovice (South Bohemia region). The aim of the article is to step by step analyze the current state of the supply logistics of the specific subject and propose appropriate measures contributing to optimize the entire process using selected techniques of the Operations Research. By applying the methods of multi-criteria decision analysis (such as Weighted Sum Approach and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution), the most attractive option is chosen; i.e. the optimal supplier for the implementation of the transport-supply process that will enhance the effectiveness of specific logistics activities in the operation being examined. The conclusion in detail discusses individual contributions in terms of the suggested ways of modeling and improving the current state with respect to supply processes in the selected enterprise.

The aim of the paper is to assess the possibility of decreasing the chosen environmental indicators like energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) production and other exhaust pollutants in the selected region in Slovakia by introducing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) buses into bus transport. The assessment is carried out by comparing the consumption and emissions of current buses (EURO 2) in real operation, with potential buses (EURO 6) and with pilot LNG buses testing on the same lines. Comparison took place under the same conditions over the same period. The study measures the energy consumption and GHG production per bus. The research paper also compares two methodologies of calculation. The first calculation is according to the European Standard EN 16258: 2012 which specifies the general methodology for evaluation and declaration of energy consumption and GHG emissions (all services - cargo, passengers or both). The second calculation is according to the Handbook of Emission Factors for Road Transport (HBEFA). The results of the calculation are compared by both methods, and the most suitable version of the bus in terms of GHG emissions is proposed.

In today’s increasingly globalizing world, the demand for the transport of more and more specific kinds of goods is constantly growing. Greater diversity of the objects of transport extends the range of consignees and consignors, which implies the reduction of the number and volume of consignments. Modern enterprises are no longer interested in mass supplies of large quantities of the same material but strive for flexible supplies of smaller quantities of specific materials out of more suppliers. This manuscript deals with the streamlining of specific transport-logistics processes, including a detailed analysis of the existing pick-up system in relation to transport serviceability of the certain territory starting in the city of České Budějovice (Czech Republic) and a determination of more effective variants for supply. The primary objective will be to find and analyze specific options for streamlining the processes being optimized using the selected method of the graph theory, namely the location problem. In the context of optimization, a specific case study is elaborated with the aim to increase the efficiency of the current pickup system, i.e. serviceability of a particular territory.

Since 2010, there has been a strong increase in passenger transport compared to the original forecast. This makes us think about possible ways to improve fixed electric traction installations performance that would enable to increase the transport capacity. To secure modern methods of operation, a quality railroad network with a quality and stable power supply system is necessary. If the existing DC traction system (3 kV) does not ensure sufficient power supply, some other acceptable way must be sought. The problem is technically solvable. If the lines capacity shall be used in the most efficient way, a systematic approach is necessary, in particular using multi-system locomotives with higher performance. Solving the issue of traction power systems development and modernization will be related with the conversion of DC traction system (3kV) into a uniform power supply system (25kV/50Hz).

At present, high traffic intensity level on the roads currently saturates a great demand for individual transportation. Mobility is an important part of everyday activities in cities. The increasing number of passenger and freight vehicles on the widening transport infrastructure raises several problems. The range of use of public passenger transport does satisfy enough the citizens needs and its use is constantly decreasing, especially in the new EU countries. One of the reasons is also the growing sale and production of new passenger cars in the EU, resulting in congestion in the road infrastructure of cities and environmental problems. These issues are dealt with the modern City Logistics concept. The contribution focused on the basic principles of city logistics, the reasons for its development and, in particular, the possibilities of practical use. An example is the city of Trenčín in Slovakia, where a regional rail passenger transport is proposed for city traffic service including Park and Ride system.

The objective of this contribution is the application of a new methodology for assessing connectivity in passenger transport regarding selected tariff points accessibility in the context of developing the selected region. From the passenger´s point of view, it is necessary to specially assess the accessibility of lines within transportation, between the selected destinations using passenger air transport. The length of the travel time, the number of necessary transfers and the number of travel opportunities affects the possibilities of transport between place A and B. The connections and lines are thus influenced by many factors. This is the basic point to consider when designing a set of evaluation criteria for assessing the connectivity and in carrying out a case study for a specific region. In this paper, Václav Havel Airport in Prague (Czech Republic) with selected air transport connections were evaluated according to the proposed methodology.

The effect of logistics has increased steadily in recent years. In regard to the concept of logistics, it is not only referred to as transportation of goods from place A to place B, as many people believe. Logistics covers a wide range of enterprise (supply chain) processes. It is a whole value-creation chain including not only material flows, but also energy, human resources and valuable information. The objective of this research study is to find issues and risks in the current state of supply, inventory management and warehousing process in the given enterprise. In the study, proposals to streamline the current state in terms of inventory management identification system in particular manufacturing enterprise, which is the primary purpose of the submitted paper, are outlined. The specific result is to develop the proposal to increase efficiency and reduce risk regarding the current situation of inventory management identification system applying suitable techniques of the multi-criteria analysis, in particular by the TOPSIS method and by the WSA method.

The aim of this article is to find a rational solution for increasing the safety of level crossings in the Czech Republic on the basis of a set of representative level crossings. The Czech Republic was deliberately chosen because of its geographical location, the number of level crossings on the network, and because, according to statistics from the Rail Safety Inspection Office, the country ranks as one of the highest for the number of accidents at level crossings. The rational solution being sought is one that achieves a balance between legislative, technical, and awareness-raising measures. In the practical part, great emphasis is placed on the assessment of the current state of Czech legislation. The identified discrepancies are resolved by adjusting calculations for overview distances and proposing changes to incorrect provisions. The main contribution of this paper is the comprehensive overview that it provides of level crossings and their safety. This overview includes a description of the current state of affairs, i.e., the number of level crossings, their location, classification, construction and type of equipment used, as well as an analysis of accidents and their frequency. The latter is in relation to the proposed construction and technical solution and subsequent assessment of the rationalisation possibilities and investments required to reconstruct or remove existing level crossings, thereby affecting the accident rate.

Thispaperaddresses anapplication ofthe specific methods of multi-criteria decision analysis to specify the appropriatesupplier of an autonomous train in acertainproduction–distribution company. This company identifiesthree potential suppliers dealing with the development and purchase of autonomous train systems. In terms ofthe multi-criteria decision analysis, the WSA method, the Scoring method and the TOPSIS method were usedto defineasuitablecompromisesolution. To applyeachmethod, individualsuppliers were sorted depending on theappropriatenessfor the examined company based on relevancewithallthe identifiedcriteria and their weights. The evaluationcriteria includeprocurement cost, time of the whole autonomous train system project implementation, references from plants where such atechnology hasalready been introduced, service department availability and battery charge time. Thereafter, the outcomesobtained using individual methods were compared to each other and the compromise supplier of the autonomous train system to be implemented inthe selected companywas determined.

This paper discusses the optimization of warehouse management in the assembly and distribution company. As part of complex logistics system, warehouse management plays a significant role in every company, connecting the areas of storage, material flow, production, record keeping and dispatch with the company´s economic objectives. It also has a significant impact on business operations and can be of an important competitive advantage. It may be argued that well-managed logistics, including a continuous material flow, cost minimization as well as overall streamlining of individual processes associated with manufacturing of products, are powerful strategic tools for companies and lead to their strong market position. It is almost an imperative for them to use modern knowledge in this area and strive for improvement. After the introducing chapters, paper includes an optimization proposal using particular methods of multi-criteria evaluation of variants which consists of determining the criteria for variants evaluation, developing the basic multi-criteria matrix and selecting as well as applying the specific method for final evaluation (in our case, the comparison with WSA and TOPSIS methods has been carried out). Final part of the paper outlines the most appropriate option regarding the introduction of an automatic identification system to optimize the warehouse management system.

Providing the railway infrastructure is a prerequisite for achieving the quality of public passenger transport, not only from a national perspective but also within a regional level. Based on transportation capacity knowledge, railway tracks capacity and headway can be determined. Subsequently, it is possible to examine the railway sections capacity and select a measure in order to increase this capacity.

The aim of this article is to modify the parameters and thus the objective function of the deterministic model of inventory theory so that other important aspects, which influence inventory management, can be taken into consideration. These aspects include the nature of inventory consumption, the share of inventories in sales, the capacity of means of transport and, above all, the reliability of suppliers. This goal is achieved by performing sophisticated and specific calculations for the individual parameters in the modified model. The modification of the objective function of the deterministic model has created a new multi-criteria model. The outcome of this model sought to optimize the supply process in a way that minimizes the risks associated with a lack of inventories while maintaining the economic effectiveness thereof. The model effectiveness is examined by comparing the application of the deterministic model and the proposed model with modified objective function. The results of applying these individual models have been produced based on calculations of indicators showing inventory management effectiveness&mdash, the speed of inventory turnover and the average number of inventories in storage.

Existing methodologies in a given issue have only dealt with a partial assessment of the transport connectivity quality on specific transport network. However, unlike them, the objective of this manuscript was to propose a new unified methodology to assess the passenger transport timetables in terms of transport connectivity, and subsequently to complexly evaluate the whole predesignated regional transport network from a qualitative point of view. These days, the burden of transport operation on environment means major issue, above all in terms of vehicles' energy consumption and emission gases' production which cause serious global problems. This manuscript is focused on particular investigation concerning emission gases' production between chosen modes of transport. Specifically, railway passenger transport and air passenger transport are considered. Introductory sections of the manuscript consist of clarifying relevant concepts, elaborating a literature review in a given context and presenting methodological guideline details in regard to quantify the amount of greenhouse gases emissions as well as energy consumption. Thereafter, the most important paper sections follow which include compiling the particular research study within a discussed topic with a purpose to quantify and compare an environmental burden (impact) of railway passenger and air passenger means of transport operation, outcomes achieved assessment, as well as related discussion.

At present, the impact of transport on the environment constitutes a serious problem. This mainly concerns energy consumption and production of greenhouse gases (GHG) that via their participation in greenhouse effect intensification contribute to global warming. In this paper, the calculations provided by the EN 16258: 2012 methodology will be applied to two modes of transport: railway and road transport. Subsequently, the methodology will be applied to a case study of a selected nonelectrified railway line in comparison with parallel road transport. In particular, energy consumption and production of greenhouse gases will be monitored depending on traveling the distance between selected cities in the Czech Republic.

Currently, the influence of transport on the environment represents a serious problem, especially in terms of energy consumption and generation of gases causing global warming. The contribution on the topic of comparing energy consumption and greenhouse gases emissions on relation Brno – Jihlava thus aims to describe generation of emissions in the current types of transport and their calculation according to EN 16258:2012. The results of the calculations will be expressed in emission intensity units to the number of passengers transported. The EN 16258:2012 calculations will be applied to passenger rail transport. In particular, energy intensity and generation of greenhouse gases will be monitored in relation to travelling the distance between Brno and Jihlava.

This contribution in a cross section way focused on the analytical determination of practical capacity of main tracks and the issue of the required capacity in the context of the comparison of national methodology used by the ŽSR and the recommended international UIC methodology. Methodology for the calculation of permeable performance within the national conditions is stipulated by ŽSR´s regulation – D24, the methodology within the international conditions for members of the UIC railway union is recommended by UIC Code 406. Both of presented methodologies have their pros and cons, which are consistently derived from this text.

The paper deals with a proposal of the connection quality evaluation on a particular transport network within passenger transport. Currently, there is no relevant methodology for a comprehensive evaluation of timetables in general and no selected indicators for evaluating the connection quality on a transport network. The aim of the paper is to outline the way to evaluate the timetable in passenger transport in terms of connectivity and connection. From a passenger's perspective, it is necessary to evaluate the availability of opportunities to travel between selected locations on a railway network. The transport offer from the place A to the place B basically affects the transportation time, the number of transfers and the number of travel opportunities. This represents the starting point for designing a set of criteria in order to evaluate the overall connection quality.

The paper presents the perspectives of suburban traction units with tilting system particularly in regional transport to decrease the travel times and increase the competitiveness of railway transport. It aims to outline the importance of its use in this mode of transport, especially in the case when the condition of infrastructure is unable to provide higher efficiency possibilities for railway enterprises and investments for tracks optimization are not available or insufficient, i.e. enterprises cannot be more efficient in utilization of classic traction units of conventional design. The paper is focused especially on using traction units with tilting system within a selected regional transport section when analyzing the operational and technical characteristics and comparison of time savings after these units deployment.

Within a project of Technology Agency of the Czech Republic No. TA 04030889 “Operational diagnostic of qualitative indicators of railway tracks by means of gauging its spatial deformation.” Empirical cross-resistance tests of sleepers in railway ballast were carried out in geotechnical laboratory test field (GLTF) of the Transport research center in Brno (TRC). The tests were done in collaboration with Czech Technical University in Prague, Department of Railway Structures (ČVUT).
