7. Il CSR reporting per i centri logistici: una dashboard di KPIs per la valutazione della sostenibilità

Abstract

CSR evaluation and reporting in the logistics industry have received little attention from scholars. The paper aims to contribute to the academic debate in this field by exploring the adoption of KPIs to measure, report and disclose CSR performance by the Italian intermodal centres. A conceptual model based on the concept of the triple bottom line and a dashboard of 58 KPIs to monitor the impact of logistics activities is suggested. The paper also performs an empirical analysis of 26 Italian intermodal centres to examine the rate of disclosure of CSR performance. Then, it applies the conceptual model to 4 prominent cases that voluntary publish non-mandatory information on their CSR and corporate sustainability performance. The results show only a limited number of indicators of the proposed dashboard are used by Italian logistics nodes. The paper debates the implication of improving CSR disclosure in logistics under the lens of stakeholder management.

Abstract

The paper aims to unveil the business opportunities arising from the application of the theoretical constructs and managerial tools embedded in Business Process Management (BPM) and Business Process Reengineering (BPR) for managing and redesigning tourism services. The empirical background consists of business processes in the cruise domain. After introducing the main fundamental elements characterising the “blueprint” as a managerial tool, the paper empirically applies the aforementioned constructs to the On Board Sales (OBS) processes of a leading cruise company (i.e., Costa Crociere S.p.A.). The empirical results shed lights on how blueprint can support cruise companies with improving corporate performance by detecting and solving organizational/informative and managerial/operative criticalities. The benefits from the adoption of the blueprint in the sample cruise line are then generalised to those tourism services which are characterised by high levels of interaction with customers.

Abstract

The study investigates how the adoption of emerging digital technologies can provide valuable business opportunities for logistics centres in maritime supply chains. For this purpose, a systematic literature review (SLR) of prior academic studies addressing this topic is performed. The review unveils the current lack of a comprehensive framework to assess the impact of digital technologies on transport and maritime logistics, bringing insights for a promising research agenda. The paper proposes an ad-hoc conceptual framework for disentangling relevant business opportunities which originates from the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies for each type of logistics centres. The main business benefits for logistics infrastructures which manage cargo flows in maritime supply chains (MSCs) are identified and discussed. The results suggest alternative strategic options for innovating logistics chains and increase the competitiveness of various cargo logistics centres. Managerial and marketing implications for both academics and practitioners are discussed in-depth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
