The objective was to compare two methods for assessing eating disorder psychopathology in pre-gastric banding surgery patients. 93 morbidly obese patients were assessed with the German versions of the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) and the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDE-Q). The EDE and the EDE-Q were significantly correlated on the restraint, eating concern, shape concern and weight concern subscales, although the questionnaire scores were significantly higher. Frequencies of objective bulimic episodes were slightly but significantly correlated and the difference between EDE and EDE-Q was not significant. When participants were classified as binge eaters based on a cut-off of two binges per week on average in the last 28 days, the concordance between EDE and EDE-Q was moderate. The EDE-Q seems well-suited in assessing eating disorder psychopathology in obese pre-gastric banding patients. Yet, for the assessment of binge eating episodes the use of the questionnaire alone can not be recommended.

Buried bumper syndrome is a rare complication of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy with an overgrowth of the inner flange of the tube. Various therapeutic approaches in case studies in the literature are described.We present the prospective data collection and analysis of 18 cases of buried bumper syndrome treated in our institution between 1 January 1998 and 31 December 2005.The median length of time after the first percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube insertion was 35 months (range = 1-168 months). In 37 endoscopic interventions all ingrown PEG's could be removed or replaced. Our experience resulted in a structured clinical treatment algorithm.In all cases inadequate gastrostomy care must be assumed as the reason for bumper overgrowth. Following ESPEN guidelines for PEG care may prevent BBS. BBS can routinely be diagnosed and treated by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in a minimally invasive manner.

The viscosity coefficient of methanol vapor was measured at low densities by means of an all-quartz oscillating-disk viscometer of high precision. The relative measurements were performed along 10 isochores at densities from (0.004 to 0.050) mol·dm-3 in the temperature range between (298 and 603) K. The uncertainty is estimated to be ± 0.2 % at room temperature, increasing up to ± 0.3 % at higher temperatures. Isothermal values recalculated from the original experimental data were evaluated with a first-order expansion for the viscosity in terms of density. A reasonable agreement with experimental values from the literature was found for those of Golubev and Likhachev (up to 1 % higher) measured with a capillary viscometer in an extended temperature range up to high pressures. The new results, some older ones obtained in our laboratory, and those of Golubev and Likhachev are used to model the viscosity of methanol vapor at moderately low densities. Results of new high-precision measurements of the viscosity of water vapor at low densities are reported. The measurements were performed using an all-quartz oscillating-disk viscometer with small gaps. Ten isochoric series were carried out at temperatures between (298 and 438) K and at densities from (0.001 to 0.013) mol·L- 1. The uncertainty is estimated to be ± 0.2 % at ambient temperature increasing up to ± 0.3 % at higher temperatures. Isothermal values were analyzed with a density series for the viscosity in which only a linear contribution is considered. Values for the viscosity of the saturated vapor were also obtained at low temperatures. The new results and reliable data sets from literature are used to represent the viscosity of water vapor at moderately low densities. The second viscosity virial coefficient was modeled by means of the Rainwater−Friend theory. Accurate calculation algorithms for the thermodynamic and transport properties of humid air are required for modeling compressed air energy-storage power cycles and designing their individual components. The development of such algorithms was part of the Advanced Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (AA-CAES) project, which had been supported by the European Commission. To obtain the statements of this paper, all available experimental data and new experimental data generated within the AA-CAES project were used as basis for comparisons between the different models for thermodynamic and transport properties. As a result, one model for calculating thermodynamic and one model for transport properties of humid air in AA-CAES cycle design and operation is recommended. Their application is possible for wide ranges of temperature from 243 K up to 2000 K, total pressure from 0.611 kPa up to 100 MPa, and water content up to 10% mass fraction with some restrictions concerning the calculation of viscosity η and thermal conductivity λ (up to 1000 K for both and up to 40 MPa for λ). These models have been implemented into a property library, which meets the requirements of programs for calculating compressed air energy-storage cycles. The developed property library can be used for the daily work of an engineer who calculates such cycles. The results summarized in this paper have been used for preparing Section 6, “Real Gas” of the ASME Report No. STP-TS-012, “Thermophysical Properties of Gases used in Working Gas Turbine Applications.”
