2,4,6-Trichloro 1,3,5-triazine was selectively reacted with new nucleophilic reagents such as 4-methoxy-2-aminobenzothiazole, 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethyl-aniline, and phenylsubstituted thiourea in alkaline medium to give 2-(4-methoxybenzothiazol-2′-ylamino)-4-(phenylthioureido)-6-(substitutedthioureido)-1,3,5-triazines. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 19F NMR, mass spectral data, and elemental analysis. The compounds show fungicidal activity against Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, and Macrofomina. Supplemental materials are available for this article. In this communication, a simple and straightforward procedure for the heterocyclization of 1H‐4,5‐dihydro‐3‐(4‐haloaryl)‐5‐substituted phenylpyrazoles (4) with 1‐bromo‐3‐chloropropane and 2,3‐dibromo‐1‐(4‐fluoro‐3‐methylphenyl)‐3‐phe‐ nylpropanone affording 2,3,4,8,9‐pentahydro‐7‐(4‐haloaryl)pyrazolo[5,1‐e]benzo[1,5] oxazocines 5 and regioselective synthesis of 2,3(erythro),7,8‐tetrahydro‐2‐ aryl‐3‐(4‐fluoro‐3‐methylbenzoyl)‐6‐(4‐halophenyl)pyrazolo[5,1‐d]benzo[1,4]oxa‐ zepines 6, respectively, via solid–liquid PTC is reported. All the synthesized compounds have been characterized on the basis of their spectral studies (IR, PMR, and MS) and analytical data.

Six new 3-(4′-fluorophenyl)-1,5-trisubstituted pyrazoles have been synthesized from the appropriate fluorinated 1,3-diketones and pentafluorophenylhydrazine in the presence of absolute ethanol and hydrochloric acid, viz., 1-pentafluorophenyl-3-(4′-fluorophenyl)-5- methylpyrazole, 1-pentafluorophenyl-3-(4′-fluorophenyl)-5-trifluoromethylpyrazole, 5- ethyl-1-pentafluorophenyl-3-(4′-fluorophenyl) pyrazole, 5-(pentafluoroethyl)-1-pentafluorophenyl-3-(4′-fluorophenyl) pyrazole, 1-pentafluorophenyl-3-(4′-fluorophenyl) 5-n-propylpyrazole and 5-(heptafluoropropyl)-1-pentafluorophenyl-3-(4′-fluorophenyl) pyrazole. In addition, six new 2-amino-4-(4′-fluorophenyl)-6-alkyl(perfluoroalkyl)-trisubstituted pyrimidines have been prepared from the same diketones and guanidine carbonate in the presence of hydrochloric acid using absolute ethanol as a solvent, viz., 2-amino- 4(4′-fluorophenyl)-6-methylpyrimidine, 2-amino-4(4′-fluorophenyl)-6-trifluoromethylpyrimidine, 2-amino-6-ethyl-4(4′-fluorophenyl)pyrimidine, 2-amino-6-pentafluoroethyl-4-(4′-fluorophenyl)pyrimidine, 2-amino-4-(4′-fluorophenyl)-6-n-propylpyrimidine and 2- amino-6-(heptafluoropropyl)-4-(4′-fluorophenyl)pyrimidine. All new fluorinated pyrazoles as well as pyrimidines have been characterized by elemental analyses as well as spectral studies.

Lapachol, a naphthoquinone isolated from Tectona grandis was evaluated for its oestrogenicity and antinidational activity in the mouse and was found to possess a statistically significant (p < 0.001) uterotrophic effect after administration of the drug at a dose of 20 mg/kg body weight/day/mouse, intramuscularly. However, in comparison with conjugated oestrogen, the drug proved to be a relatively weak oestrogenic. Lapachol when administered at the same dose level exhibited interceptory activity at all stages of early pregnancy.

The mechanism of this reaction has been discussed.

Six new 1,3-diketonatolanthanide complexes have been synthesized from the fluorinated 1,3-diketones and lanthanide chloride in the presence of methanol, viz. tris(4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedionato)-holmium(III),-praseodymium(III) and -erbium(III), and (5,5,5-trifluoro-4,4-difluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-pentanedionato)-holmium(III),-praseodymium(III) and -erbium(III).

Recently the chemistry of fluorinated 1,3-diketones has aroused great interest as they serve as reaction intermediates for the synthesis of a large number of biologically active heterocycles, viz: pyrazoles, flavones, isoxazoles and diazepines. In our comprehensive programme of developing new fluorinated 1,3-diketones and related compounds, we wish to report here the synthesis and some of the synthetic applications of these fluorinated 1,3-diketones. These fluorinated 1,3-diketones have been synthesized by the claisen condensation. The fluorinated 1,3-diketones when subjected to condensation reaction with pentafluorophenylhydrazine to yield the corresponding 3-(p-fluorophenyl)1,5- trisubstituted pyrazoles. Similarly condensation of the above 1,3-diketones with guanidine carbonate in these of HCl afforded corresponding 2-amino 4,6-trisubstituted pyrimidines. These compounds have been characterized by their elemental and spectral studies (I.R., PMR & Mass). The biological screening of these compounds are under investigation.
