Abstract

Para que las administraciones públicas sean éticas en el desempeño de su gestión, las decisiones de sus representantes deben responder a los intereses de los grupos de interés a los que se encuentra vinculada, además sus funciones deben ser ejercidas con voluntad de servicio público. En relación a ello, la presente investigación analiza el liderazgo ético en la gestión pública municipal, buscando potenciar la eficiencia en el desempeño de sus funciones públicas con responsabilidad social; enmarcada en el paradigma cualitativo, etnográfico, interpretativo, de carácter transversal, cuya población de estudio fue la Alcaldía de Mara del estado Zulia, Venezuela. Donde se evidenció que sehan intentado desarrollar cambios científicos-sociales, sin embargo, a pesar de los esfuerzos realizados por alcanzar la trasformación organizacional, existen algunas limitaciones desde el punto de vista político, jurídico, económico, social y tecnológico por lo cual, se ha establecido una propuesta del liderazgo ético como factor potenciador de la transformación organizacional, en base a las características y perfil del líder. Se concluye, que dichasmodificaciones deben canalizarse de manera metódica, induciendo a los involucrados, a través de talleres grupales, a un cambio gradual progresivo,que permitan generar el cambio necesario en la administración pública municipal del estado Zulia.

2. The oxysterol-binding protein superfamily: New concepts and old proteins

Abstract

The Kes1 OSBP (oxysterol-binding protein) is a key regulator of membrane trafficking through the TGN (trans-Golgi network) and endosomal membranes. We demonstrated recently that Kes1 acts as a sterolregulated rheostat for TGN/endosomal phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate signalling. Kes1 utilizes its dual lipid-binding activities to integrate endosomal lipid metabolism with TORC1 (target of rapamycin complex 1)-dependent proliferative pathways and transcriptional control of nutrient signalling. ©The Authors Journal compilation ©2012 Biochemical Society.

Abstract

Background: This study investigates the potential influence of genotype and parent-of-origin effects (POE) on the clinical manifestations of Lynch syndrome (LS) within families carrying (likely) disease-causing MSH6 germline variants., Patients and Methods: A cohort of 1615 MSH6 variant carriers (310 LS families) was analyzed. Participants were categorized based on RNA expression and parental inheritance of the variant. Hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated using weighted Cox regression, considering external information to address ascertainment bias. The findings were cross-validated using the Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database (PLSD) for endometrial cancer (EC)., Results: No significant association was observed between genotype and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk (HR = 1.06, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.77-1.46). Patients lacking expected RNA expression exhibited a reduced risk of EC (Reference Cohort 1: HR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.43-1.03; Reference Cohort 2: HR = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.46-0.87). However, these results could not be confirmed in the PLSD. Moreover, no association was found between POE and CRC risk (HR = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.52-1.17) or EC risk (Reference Cohort 1: HR = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.65-1.33; Reference Cohort 2: HR = 0.8, 95% CI: 0.64-1.19)., Discussion and Conclusion: No evidence of POE was detected in MSH6 families. While RNA expression may be linked to varying risks of EC, further investigation is required to explore this observation., (© 2024 The Authors. Abstract

Background Chile has one of the highest mortality rates by gastric cancer (GC) worldwide. Primary prevention of GC and detection of pre-neoplastic and early neoplastic lesions should be a national priority. Aim To assess the impact of the protocolization of endoscopy referral and the use of H. pylori stool antigen test (HPSA) in the management of dyspepsia to decrease the waiting list for endoscopy and increase the detection of gastric pre-neoplastic and early neoplastic lesions. Material and Methods We included all patients referred to the Endoscopy Unit of a regional hospital, from January 2015 to December 2017. We also included patients with known pre-neoplastic lesions and all those with first degree relatives with GC. We implemented protocols for referral of patients with dyspepsia considering the use of HPSA test, prioritizing to endoscopy those with a higher risk of GC. Results A total of 4,641 endoscopies and 2,631 HPSA tests were carried out. After the adoption of these protocols, we observed a 52% decrease in the waiting time for endoscopy. The GC detection rate in this period was 1.8 to 3.1 cases per 100 endoscopies. After the adoption of the protocols, we observed a significant increase in early GC detection rate (from none in 2015 to 13% in 2017, p = 0.03). Conclusions The protocolization of the referral for endoscopy associated with widespread use of HPSA test in the management of patients with dyspepsia, are successful strategies to decrease waiting lists for endoscopy and optimize the detection rate of pre-neoplastic lesions and early GC.

Abstract

Direct reprogramming of fibroblasts into cardiomyocyte-like cells (iCM) holds great potential for heart regeneration and disease modeling and may lead to future therapeutic applications. Currently, application of this technology is limited by our lack of understanding of the molecular mechanisms that drive direct iCM reprogramming. Using a quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomic approach, we identified the temporal global changes in protein abundance that occur during initial phases of iCM reprogramming. Collectively, our results show systematic and temporally distinct alterations in levels of specific functional classes of proteins during the initiating steps of reprogramming including extracellular matrix proteins, translation factors, and chromatin-binding proteins. We have constructed protein relational networks associated with the initial transition of a fibroblast into an iCM. These findings demonstrate the presence of an orchestrated series of temporal steps associated with dynamic changes in protein abundance in a defined group of protein pathways during the initiating events of direct reprogramming., (Copyright © 2018 The Author(s).
