2. UNESCO Strategy and Digital Policies for Teacher Training: The Deconstruction of Innovation in Spain

Abstract

This paper examines initial teacher training policies in the context of youth digitalisation. Based on international ICT competency frameworks for teachers (UNESCO, 2008, 2019) and information literacy, MIL (UNESCO, 2011), we analyse how Spanish (public and private) universities represent digital innovation, and the identity practices of young people, linked to hyperconnectivity. Focusing on initial training received by future secondary teachers, the sample was selected according to the criteria of non-presential learning (online, distance, blended) applied in the teacher training process. Results confirm ongoing deficiencies in critical teacher digitalisation management, highlighting certain asymmetries between the categories constructed. Data reveals the prevalence of intervention more geared towards formal knowledge than towards decoding digital grammar (which is how digitalisation is used in education). The paper concludes by advocating convergence strategies as a circular mechanism that must underpin all teacher training policies in the age of hyperconnectivity.

Abstract

This study described and compared 12 classroom teaching innovations that were introduced at the University of Seville, Spain, during academic year 1999-2000. Students completed the Student Demographic Questionnaire (SDQ), and their perceptions of the classroom learning environment were assessed with the Evaluation of University Teaching Activities Questionnaire developed for this study and completed by 665 students. In addition, university classroom innovation practice was analyzed through teaching plans, observations, and semi-structured interviews with 84 students. Significant differences were found in several factors of student biography. Findings shed some light on the neglected theme of the teaching practice of university faculty. Research results and implications for improving university teaching innovation are discussed. Four appendixes contain the questionnaire and supplemental information. (SLD)

Abstract

This study explored whether university students' perceptions of the social environment are influenced by professors' classroom teaching innovations. Data from 559 university students in 13 innovative disciplines within 11 schools at the University of Seville, Spain, were used. First, factor analytic procedures with varimax rotation were used to generate a seven-factor solution that accounted for 59% of the variance. Second, using hierarchical linear modeling, it was found that the average student's perception of interest is also influenced by prior knowledge. Implications for further research on university teaching and innovation assessment are discussed. Two appendixes contain sample questionnaires. (SLD)

10. Student Satisfaction in the University: A Case Study from Spain.

Abstract

A quality assurance case study was conducted at the School of Business Studies of the University of Seville, Spain. This study explored the degree of satisfaction expressed by students, investigating the teaching performance of each university lecturer, subject program design, characteristics of the teaching center, issues related to the University, profile of the student, and the importance attached by students to each component of the teaching service. A total of 23,585 questionnaires were completed, with each module considered a separate questionnaire. These responses represented 1,560 students. Findings indicate that the instrument demonstrated validity in measuring different levels of student satisfaction. Findings also indicate that the clarity of the lecturers' explanations and the extent to which they are able to lighten these and make them accessible to students are the most significant determinants of overall student satisfaction. Abstract

Las barreras de ingenier??a de tipo arcilloso han sido propuestas en el dise??o conceptual de los almacenamientos de residuos radiactivos en muchos pa??ses, ya que la mayor??a de las arcillas, especialmente las esmectitas, tienen una baja conductividad hidr??ulica y excelentes capacidades de retenci??n para los radionucleidos. En el concepto de referencia espa??ol para almacenamiento de residuos radiactivos de alta actividad (RAA) en roca cristalina, las c??psulas de residuo se emplazan en galer??as horizontales rodeadas por una barrera de arcilla formada por bloques fabricados con bentonita densamente compactada (ENRESA 1994). El comportamiento de un almacenamiento est?? influido por los cambios que se producen en las propiedades mec??nicas, f??sico-qu??micas y geoqu??micas de las barreras de ingenier??a y de la roca del entorno. El prop??sito de este trabajo es mejorar el conocimiento del comportamiento f??sicoqu??mico y mec??nico de las bentonitas mediante un estudio detallado de la microestructura de una arcilla espa??ola y correlacionarlo con los procesos qu??micos (cementaciones, recristalizaci??n, lavado, etc.) y f??sicos (conductividad hidr??ulica y presi??n de hinchamiento) analizados experimentalmente, como por ejemplo, el transporte difusivo de cationes y aniones en la barrera de arcilla. Con este estudio tambi??n se pretende observar las posibles modificaciones qu??micas y morfol??gicas de arcillas compactadas y sometidas a distintos procesos. La arcilla estudiada es la esmectita del yacimiento de Cortijo de Archidona, seleccionada como material de relleno y sellado de un almacenamiento de residuos radiactivos, principalmente por sus favorables propiedades mec??nicas y qu??micas. Por otro lado, este yacimiento se encuadra dentro de un estudio de ??reas benton??ticas-il??ticas del Cabo de Gata (Almer??a) para su utilizaci??n como An??logo Natural, y en ??l se estudian la totalidad de los procesos relevantes (t??rmicos, mec??nicos, hidr??ulicos y qu??micos) en el an??lisis de evaluaci??n del comportamiento a largo plazo en el subsistema campo pr??ximo. Por ello, el conocimiento de las condiciones de formaci??n de esta arcilla y su estabilidad es imprescindible para la evaluaci??n de la durabilidad de la barrera de arcilla. Este trabajo ha sido enfocado en tres caminos paralelos: a) Estudio de la microf??brica de diferentes muestras inalteradas tomadas in situ en el yacimiento de Cortijo de Archidona, manteniendo su densidad y humedad natural. Este trabajo permite diferenciar distintas facies en el yacimiento y establecer las bases de un modelo conceptual bajo varias condiciones fisico-qu??micas.
