El presente estudio analiza la relevancia de la metodología pensamiento de diseño, en inglés Design Thinking, una estrategia de trabajo colaborativo para maximizar la creatividad colectiva, en estudiantes universitarios del segundo semestre de la carrera de arquitectura de la asignatura composición II, en la Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana de Chile. Las clases se impartieron a distancia (on-line) durante la pandemia provocada por el coronavirus. La metodología es descriptiva y el estudio se enmarca en el enfoque de experiencia autodirigida y estudio de campo desde escenarios virtuales, aplicando las etapas: Empatizar, definir, idear, prototipar e idear, lo que permitió enriquecer el conocimiento en educación desde la enseñanza-aprendizaje, mejorando evidencia de logros de aprendizaje. Se aplicó un cuestionario a una muestra de 104 estudiantes; como resultado, 61 respuestas que muestran la comprensión y el apoyo de la metodología Design Thinking desde lo técnico y analítico hasta las actividades de arquitectura. El estudiantado logró desarrollar la creatividad, la sistematización y las habilidades técnicas mediante la aplicación de instrumentos de investigación que contribuyen a la creación de proyectos de composición arquitectónica, poniendo en el centro de las decisiones las necesidades sociales y las esperanzas del usuario o público objetivo.

A retrospective study that compared children younger than 6 months versus older children of a Spanish cohort of patients diagnosed with Kawasaki disease between 2011 and 2016 (Kawa-Race study). From the 598 patients recruited, 42 patients were younger than 6 months (7%) and presented more frequently with an incomplete diagnosis of Kawasaki disease (52.4 vs 27.9%, p = 0.001). Cardiac abnormalities detected by echocardiography were more common in younger patients (52.4 vs 30%, p = 0.002). These younger patients presented with a higher proportion of coronary aneurysms as well (19 vs 8.6%, p < 0.001). Shock at diagnosis (9.5 vs 1.9%, p = 0.016) and admission to intensive care units (17.7 vs 4.1%, p = 0.003) were more frequent in patients younger than 6 months. There were no statistically significant differences in relation to infections, non-response to IVIG, or mid- or long-term outcomes.Conclusion: Data of the Spanish cohort are consistent with other American and Asian studies, although Spanish children younger than 6 months had a lower rate of non-response to IVIG and better clinical outcomes. A high index of suspicion should be considered for this population due to a higher risk of coronary abnormalities, presentation of shock, and admission to the intensive care unit. What is Known: •Children below 6 months of age with Kawasaki disease (KD) have different features compared to older. •Younger patients usually have an incomplete form of KD and coronary artery abnormalities. What is New: •Younger than 6 months with KD presented with shock and required admission to PICU more frequently compared to older. •Infections play a similar role in KD despite the age of the patients.

Introduction: COVID-19 has a less severe course in children. In April 2020, some children presented with signs of multisystem inflammation with clinical signs overlapping with Kawasaki disease (KD), most of them requiring admission to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). This study aimed to describe the prevalence and clinical characteristics of KD SARS-CoV-2 confirmed and negative patients during the pandemic in Spain. Material and Methods: Medical data of KD patients from January 1, 2018 until May 30, 2020 was collected from the KAWA-RACE study group. We compared the KD cases diagnosed during the COVID-19 period (March 1-May 30, 2020) that were either SARS-CoV-2 confirmed (CoV+) or negative (CoV-) to those from the same period during 2018 and 2019 (PreCoV). Results: One hundred and twenty-four cases were collected. There was a significant increase in cases and PICU admissions in 2020 (P-trend = 0.001 and 0.0004, respectively). CoV+ patients were significantly older (7.5 vs. 2.5 yr) and mainly non-Caucasian (64 vs. 29%), had incomplete KD presentation (73 vs. 32%), lower leucocyte (9.5 vs. 15.5 × 10(9)) and platelet count (174 vs. 423 × 10(9)/L), higher inflammatory markers (C-Reactive Protein 18.5vs. 10.9 mg/dl) and terminal segment of the natriuretic atrial peptide (4,766 vs. 505 pg/ml), less aneurysm development (3.8 vs. 11.1%), and more myocardial dysfunction (30.8 vs. 1.6%) than PreCoV patients. Respiratory symptoms were not increased during the COVID-19 period. Conclusion: The KD CoV+ patients mostly meet pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with COVID-19/multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children criteria. Whether this is a novel entity or the same disease on different ends of the spectrum is yet to be clarified.

In this paper, the experience and results of the implementation of an advanced control strategy for SAG mills 1 and 2 at Codelco Chile's, Division El Teniente, is presented. In these applications, the multivariable predictive control approach was used, based on Honeywell's Profit Controller™ software, also called RMPCT (Robust Multivariable Predictive Control Technology). Results achieved are excellent, viewed in terms of operators’ acceptance, applications availability, bearing pressure stability and throughput increase.

The release of sterile males is a key component of an areawide program to eradicate the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), from Guatemala and southern Mexico. The objective of our study was to assess the effects of adult diet, exposure to ginger root oil (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), and elevation on the mating competitiveness of the sterile males used in an areawide program. Sterile males were maintained on a protein-sugar (protein-fed) or a sugar-only (protein-deprived) diet and were exposed (for 4 h 1 d before testing) or not exposed to ginger root oil. In field-cage trials conducted at a high (1,500 m) and low (700 m) site, we monitored the influence of these treatments on the mating success of sterile males in competition with wild males (reared exclusively on the protein-sugar diet and without ginger root oil exposure) for wild females. Elevation and ginger root oil exposure had significant effects, with sterile males having higher mating success at the low-elevation site and ginger root oil-exposed males having greater success than ginger root oil-deprived males at both sites. Diet did not have a significant overall effect, and its influence varied with elevation (dietary protein seemed to provide an advantage at the high-elevation site but not at the low-elevation site). Possible implications of these findings for eradication programs against the Mediterranean fruit fly are discussed.

Chloroplast transglutaminase (chlTGase) activity is considered to play a significant role in response to a light stimulus and photo-adaptation of plants, but its precise function in the chloroplast is unclear. The characterisation, at the proteomic level, of the chlTGase interaction with thylakoid proteins and demonstration of its association with photosystem II (PSII) protein complexes was accomplished with experiments using maize thylakoid protein extracts. By means of a specific antibody designed against the C-terminal sequence of the maize TGase gene product, different chlTGase forms were immunodetected in thylakoid membrane extracts from three different stages of maize chloroplast differentiation. These bands co-localised with those of lhcb 1, 2 and 3 antenna proteins. The most significant, a 58 kDa form present in mature chloroplasts, was characterised using biochemical and proteomic approaches. Sequential fractionation of thylakoid proteins from light-induced mature chloroplasts showed that the 58 kDa form was associated with the thylakoid membrane, behaving as a soluble or peripheral membrane protein. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis discriminated, for the first time, the 58-kDa band in two different forms, probably corresponding to the two different TGase cDNAs previously cloned. Electrophoretic separation of thylakoid proteins in native gels, followed by LC-MS mass spectrometry identification of protein complexes indicated that maize chlTGase forms part of a specific PSII protein complex, which includes LHCII, ATPase and pSbS proteins. Cytokines make up a network of molecules involved in the regulation of immune response and organ functional homeostasis. Cytokines coordinate both physiological and pathological processes occurring in the liver during viral infection, including infection control, inflammation, regeneration, and fibrosis. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses interfere with the complex cytokine network brought about by the immune system and liver cells in order to prevent an effective immune response, capable of viral control. This situation leads to intrahepatic sequestration of nonspecific inflammatory infiltrates that release proinflammatory cytokines, which in turn favor chronic inflammation and fibrosis. The therapeutical administration of cytokines such as interferon alpha may result in viral clearance during persistent infection, and revert this process.
