Background: Due to the importance of choroidal thickness in the development of myopia, this study examined the effect of MiSight contact lenses (CLs) on the choroidal thickness of myopic children and the differences between responders and non-responders to the treatment with these CLs. Methods: A total of 41 myopic children were fitted with MiSight CLs and 33 with single-vision spectacles. They were followed up for two years. Subfoveal choroidal thickness and choroidal thickness 1 and 3 mm temporal and nasal to the fovea were measured by OCT at baseline and one and two years after the treatment. Differences in all the choroidal thickness parameters were assessed in each group over time. Patients from the MiSight group were classified based on a specific range of changes in axial length at the end of the second year of treatment as "responders" (AL change < 0.22 mm/per year) and "non-responders", and the choroidal thickness of both groups was analyzed. Results: The subfoveal choroidal thickness of the MiSight and single-vision spectacle groups did not show any changes over time. Wearing MiSight CLs induced relative choroidal thickening in the responder group in the first year of treatment. Background: In recent decades, myopia has turned into a public health issue across the world. Between 1993 and 2016, the percentage of myopes increased from 10.4% to 34.2%. This study aims to analyze the myopia prevalence in Spanish children from five to seven years old over the last five years and to predict the rate of myopia in Spain by 2030. Methods: The sample consisted of children aged between 5 and 7, who underwent an optometric examination consisting of the measurement of visual acuity (VA) and determination of objective and subjective refraction. The cut-off points to define refractive error are established by the spherical equivalent (SE) value: hyperopia for an SE over or equal to +0.50 D; myopia for an SE under or equal to −0.50 D; and emmetropia when the SE is between −0.50 D and +0.50 D. Results: The myopia rate in Spanish children aged between five and seven was 19%. Myopia prevalence progressively increased as children grew up (p ≤ 0.001). It is estimated that, in the year 2030, the rate of myopia will be 30.2% [CI: 25.3–35.0], of which 81.9% [CI: 78.3–85.3] will have low myopia, 10.0% [CI: 7.2–12.8] moderate myopia, and 7.3% [CI: 4.9–9.7] high myopia. Conclusions: Nineteen percent of Spanish children between five and seven are myopes. In 2030, is expected that 30.2% of Spanish children between 5 and 7 years of age will be myopes. These estimations will support eye care professionals in recommending that children spend more time outdoors to prevent the onset of myopia and the use of methods to control myopia to avoid reaching these figures of high myopia. Background: The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between publications and authors. In turn, the different areas of research on the ocular complications of myopia are also identified, and the most cited publication by citation networks is determined. Methods: The search for publications is carried out in the Web of Science database using the term "myopia OR nearsightedness AND retin* OR degenerat* OR detachment OR patholog* OR glaucoma OR cataract OR machulopathy OR "choroidal neovascularization" for the period between 1978 and December 2022. Publication analysis was performed using the Citation Network Explorer, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. Results: A total of 9357 publications and 78,400 citation networks were found across the network, with 2021 being the year with the highest number of publications, 712. The most cited publication was "Myopia", published in The Lancet journal in 2012 by Morgan et al. with a citation index of 1006. By using the clustering function, seven groups covering the different research areas in this field were found: axial growth of the eye; myopic maculopathy; ocular complications in patients with myopia after a surgery; glaucoma; retinal detachment; cataracts and retinopathy of prematurity. Conclusions: The citation network offers a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the main papers on ocular complications of myopia. Purpose: To assess the relationship between measures of light distortion and retinal straylight in normal and post-LASIK subjects. Design: Cross-sectional, non-randomized, masked observational case series Setting: Clinica Oftalmologica Novovision, Madrid, Spain. Methods: Thirty eyes from 30 healthy subjects (mean age 33.9 ± 8.3 years old; mean spherical equivalent (MSE) −2.06 ± 1.40 D) and thirty six eyes from thirty six refractive surgery patients (mean age 36.1 ± 7.7 years old; mean preop MSE −3.43 ± 2.23 D) were examined with the Starlights and the C-Quant straylightmeter in a case-control study. Results: The age of both treated and control groups was not statistically different ( p > 0.05). Statistically significant differences between controls and post-LASIK eyes were found for luminous distortion index (LDI), but not for retinal straylight. Correlation analysis yielded significant correlation between retinal straylight Log(s) values and BCVA measures ( r = 0.379, p = 0.002). Control subjects showed significant correlation between MSE and retinal straylight Log(s) values ( r = -0.650, p < 0.001), while post-LASIK eyes showed a significant correlation between LDI and Log(s) values ( r = 0.338, p = 0.044) and between Log(s) values and BCVA ( r = 0.460, p = 0.005). Correlation between measures obtained by both methods was higher after LASIK than in control eyes, although values were quite scattered in any case. Conclusion: Light distortion phenomena and retinal straylight measures are correlated in both normal and postsurgical eyes. Background: Myopia prevalence has been increasing in the last decades, and its pathological consequences, including myopic maculopathy and high myopia-associated optic neuropathy, are now one of the most common causes of visual impairment. It is estimated that by 2050, more than 50% of Europeans and Americans will be myopes, which is alarming due to the high morbidity of myopes over − 6.00D. Once myopia has appeared, there are different options with scientific evidence to try to slow the axial length growth. Ophthalmic lenses are the less invasive treatment to control myopia, and there is evidence about the efficacy of different designs, mainly in the Asiatic population. However, new designs have been launched, and it is not known if efficacy is the same between Asiatic and European subjects. Thus, we have set up a randomized, controlled, double-blind, and multicenter trial to investigate the efficacy of a new design of ophthalmic lenses for myopia control in European children. Methods: A 2-year prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled, and double-blind clinical trial is used to investigate the efficacy of a new design of ophthalmic lenses to slow the progression of myopia. Three hundred children aged from 6 to 13 years old will be recruited and randomly assigned to a study or control group. The study group will be composed of 150 children wearing MyoCare while the control group will be composed of 150 children wearing Clearview. The inclusion criteria will be myopia with a spherical equivalent between − 0.75D and − 5.00D, astigmatism < 1.50D, and anisometropia < 1.00D and having a historical evolution of at least − 0.50 The primary outcome is to compare the mean annual progression of the spherical equivalent between both groups. The secondary outcomes are axial length, choroidal thickness, phorias, and accommodative status of both groups. Discussion: This study will be the first randomized and controlled clinical trial in European children with spectacle lenses based on simultaneous competing defocus. The results will shed light on the clinical evidence of spectacle lenses relying on this new design for the management of myopia with results of efficacy in the non-Asiatic population. Purpose: To assess the relevance of the homogeneity of femtosecond laser flap thickness regarding induction of higher-order aberrations (HOAs). Setting: Clinica Rementeria & Clinica Novovision, Madrid, Spain. Design: Prospective observational study. Methods: Two hundred thirty-one patients underwent in situ keratomileusis using 5 different femtosecond lasers. The flap thicknesses were measured using anterior segment optical coherence tomography 3 months postoperatively. The same masked observer measured 6 symmetrical points nasally and temporally 1.0 mm, 2.0 mm, and 3.0 mm from the center of the flap in each case. HOAs induced in the cornea were measured using tomography. Results: Positive and significant correlations were found between HOA induction and the flap thickness heterogeneity 3.0 mm from the center of the flap. Pearson correlation coefficients for the induction of HOAs were third-order 0.17112 (P =.0224), fourth-order 0.22474 (P =.0026), fifth-order 0.16449 (P =.0282), coma-like 0.17370 (P =.0204), and total HOAs 0.18182 (P =.0151). Conclusions: The amount of flap-thickness heterogeneity at 3.0 mm from the center of the flap created using femtosecond lasers was correlated with the magnitude of the HOAs induced. Introduction. Dry eye is one of the most frequent eye problems with prevalence and incidence from 5% to 50%. Citation network analysis allows us to simplify information in a visual way and provides a better understanding of the research done in a specific field. The objective of this paper is to quantify and analyse the relationships among the scientific literature in this field using citation network analysis. Materials and Methods. The program used to analyse the citations was CitNetExplorer®. Previously, papers published in the research field during a predefined period were found using the keywords defined in Web of ScienceTM (WOS). Results. Using the keyword "dry eye," during the period 2007 to 2018, the most cited paper is by Lemp, MA (2007), with a citation index score of 913 in our citation network containing 6,500 most relevant papers. Analysing clustering, we found 5 relevant groups that match the main areas of research in this field: definition and classification, treatment, retina, refractive surgery, and quality of vision. Core Publication is composed of 64% of the papers in the network, which is a high percentage. It indicates a clear focus on the research carried out in this field. Conclusions. 3D printing has a great and surprising number of uses in the field of medicine. Some of these uses are nowadays on a trial phase but others are becoming more common as 3D printing of prosthesis and implants. This study uses the most advanced technology in topography to get a 3D image of the anterior surface of the eye and explores how to use this information to get a scleral cover shell prosthesis by 3D printing techniques. The reliable results of the study could lead the way to new ways of fitting scleral cover shell prosthesis. Advance topography and 3D printing simplify the process and benefit patients avoiding the step of getting an ocular mold and reducing the number of visits to the eye care professional. Background: For many years it has been studied how eye movements influence reading and learning ability. The objective of this study is to determine the relationships between the different publications and authors. As well as to identify the different areas of research ocular movement.; Methods: Web of Science was the database for the search of publications for the period 1900 to May 2021, using the terms: "Eye movement" AND "Academic achiev*". The analysis of the publication was performed using the CitNetExplorer, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software.; Results: 4391 publications and 11033 citation networks were found. The year with the most publications is 2018, a total of 318 publications and 10 citation networks. The most cited publication was "Saccade target selection and object recognition: evidence for a common attentional mechanism." published by Deubel et al. in 1999, with a citation index of 214. Using the Clustering function, nine groups were found that cover the main research areas in this field: neurological, age, perceptual attention, visual disturbances, sports, driving, sleep, vision therapy and academic performance.; Conclusion: Even being a multidisciplinary field of study, the topic with the most publications to date is the visual search procedure at the neurological level. Background: The main objective of this study was to use citation networks to analyze the relationship between different publications on the impact of cytokines at an ocular level and their authors. Furthermore, the different research areas will be identified, and the most cited publications determined. Methods: A search was performed in the Web of Science (WoS) database using the following keywords: "cytokine", "inflammatory", and "eye disease" for the period from 1990 to October 2021. The Citation Network Explorer and the CiteSpace software were then used to analyze the different publications. Results: 3127 publications with 8955 citations generated on the web were found. The largest number of publications on this topic emerged in 2018 and the authors with the largest number of publications addressing this area of research were Peizeng Yang (1.4%), Aize Kijlstra (1.3%), and Stephen C. Pflugfelder (1.2%). Conclusions: the citation network has provided a comprehensive and objective analysis of the main studies on the influence of cytokines in ocular inflammatory diseases. Background: Contact lenses can cause complications in 2/3 of the total population, but in most cases, they are mild and easy to manage. However, most of the studies are short-term. The aim of the study was to analyze the publications on the long-term effects of contact lens wear to understand the current research landscape through the analysis of dating networks as well as determining the different research areas and the most cited publications.Methods: The Web of Science database was used to perform the publication search, looking for the terms "Long-term" AND "contact lens wear" within the period between 1977 and January 2021. The CitNetExplorer and CiteSpace software were then used to conduct the publication analysis. To obtain the graphics, the VOSviewer software was used.Results: A total of 721 publications were found with 2999 citations generated within the network. The year 2010 was singled out as a "key year", considering the number of publications that emerged in that year and increase in adaptations of contact lens worldwide. The most widely cited publication was "Effects of long-term extended contact lens wear on the human cornea", an article by Holden et al., which was published in 1985. By using the clustering function, we were able to establish three clusters that encompassed the different research areas within this field: morphological changes, the loss of corneal sensitivity, tear film characteristics and longitudinal changes in ocular physiology.Conclusions: The main research topic in this field focuses on the morphological changes that take place in the corneal endothelial cell layer. Background: The main objective of this study was to use citation networks to analyze the relationship between different publications on the impact of COVID-19 at an ocular level and their authors. Furthermore, the different research areas will be identified, and the most cited publication will be determined. Materials and Methods: The publications were searched within the Web of Science database, using "ocular", "SARS-CoV-2", "ophthalmology", "eyesight", and "COVID-19" as keywords for the period between January 2020 and January 2021. The Citation Network Explorer and the CiteSpace software were used to analyze the different publications. Results: A total of 389 publications with 890 citations generated on the web were found. It must be highlighted that July was the month with the largest number of publications. The most cited ones were "Characteristics of Ocular Findings of Patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Hubei Province, China" by Wu et al., which was published in May 2020. Three groups covering the different research areas in this field were found using the clustering functions: ocular manifestations, teleophthalmology, and personal protective equipment. Purpose: To compare the induced corneal stromal bed roughness measured with atomic force microscopy (AFM) after LASIK flap creation with the IntraLase 60 kHz and the VisuMax femtosecond laser platforms. Methods: Three freshly enucleated porcine eyes were operated with each femtosecond laser in this experimental study. Standard LASIK treatment parameters were used for the experiment. After LASIK flap creation, the corneal stromal roughness was assessed using a JPK NanoWizard II® AFM in contact mode immersed in liquid. Olympus OMCL-RC800PSA commercial silicon nitride cantilever tips were used. Surface measurements were made in 10 regions of the central cornea of each sample measuring 20 x 20 microns, at 512 x 512 point resolution. Roughness was measured using the root-mean-square (RMS) value within the given regions. Results: Measurements from 30 regions of the 3 eyes (10 measurements per eye) in the Intralase (FS1) group, and 30 regions of the 3 eyes (10 measurements per eye) in the VisuMax (FS2) group were analyzed. There was a statistically significant difference in mean ± standard deviation RMS values between the FS1 and the FS2 groups (360 ± 120 versus 230 ± 100 nm respectively; P< 0.00001). Background: To aim of the study was describe the growth of publications on genetic myopia and understand the current research landscape through the analysis of citation networks, as well as determining the different research areas and the most cited publications. Methods: The Web of Science database was used to perform the publication search, looking for the terms "genetic*" AND "myopia" within the period between 2009 and October 2020. The CitNetExplorer and CiteSpace software were then used to conduct the publication analysis. To obtain the graphics, the VOSviewer software was used. Results: A total of 721 publications were found with 2999 citations generated within the network. The year 2019 was singled out as a "key year", taking into account the number of publications that emerged in that year and given that in 2019, 200 loci associated with refractive errors and myopia were found, which is considered to be great progress. The most widely cited publication was "Genome-wide meta-analyses of multiancestry cohorts identify multiple new susceptibility loci for refractive error and myopia", an article by Verhoeven et al., which was published in 2013. By using the clustering function, we were able to establish three groups that encompassed the different research areas within this field: heritability rate of myopia and its possible association with environmental factors, retinal syndromes associated with myopia and the genetic factors that control and influence axial growth of the eye. Purpose: To describe and compare the stromal bed roughness obtained after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) flap creation using a corneal femtosecond laser platform (iFS 150) and a "dual" femtosecond (FS) laser platform (LenSx). Methods: This ex vivo experimental study was conducted in an animal model using 12 freshly enucleated porcine eyes, six with each femtosecond laser. The standard laser treatment parameters were used for the experiment. After LASIK flap creation, the corneal stromal roughness was assessed using atomic force microscopy (AFM) in contact mode immersed in liquid. In each sample, surface measurements were obtained in 60 regions of six eyes per FS laser in 10 20 × 20-micron areas of the central corneal stroma at 512 × 512-point resolution. The surface roughness was measured and the root-mean-square (RMS) values of the roughness were obtained. Results: The mean RMS ± standard deviation values were 430 ± 150 nm for the corneal femtosecond laser platform and 370 ± 100 nm for the dual FS laser platform (P < 0.011). Conclusions: In this experimental study with AFM, we found smoother stromal beds after LASIK flap creation with LenSx compared to iFS 150 kHz. Objective. To analyse the prevalence of myopia among a sample of more than 6000 children in Spain as well as to determine the impact of risk factors in its progression. Methodology. A total of 6,152 children aged from 5 to 7 were examined. The participants underwent an eye examination that included visual acuity, refraction without cycloplegia, and tests of accommodative and binocular function. In addition, a questionnaire regarding their lifestyle, family history, and geographical data was carried out. Finally, data were analysed using the SPSS version 25 program. Results. The prevalence of myopia in the sample of children studied has increased from 17% in 2016 to 20% in 2017. Likewise, the number of children with high myopia has also increased, from 1.7% in 2016 to 3.6% in 2017. 43.3% of the participants spent more than 3 hours a day doing near activities, and 48.9% of this group spent more than 50% of this time using electronic devices. In addition, only 9.7% spent more than 2.5 hours outdoors each day. Conclusion. Myopia prevalence appears to be increasing in Spain. Lifestyle factors appear to be increasing the risk of myopia. To measure intraocular pressure (IOP) elevations in porcine eyes during laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) performed using 3 femtosecond laser platforms. Clínica Novovisión, Madrid, Spain. Experimental study. Three femtosecond devices, the iFS 150 kHz, which is the newest-generation IntraLase with a flat interface, and the Victus and LenSx, which are both dual femtosecond lasers with curved interfaces, were used to create lamellar corneal flaps in freshly enucleated porcine eyes. The IOP was recorded during placement of the suction ring on the eye (suctioning phase) and during the intrastromal laser application for flap creation (cutting phase) using a manometric technique with direct cannulation to the anterior chamber. Twenty-one eyes were analyzed (7 per group). The mean IOP increase during suctioning was significantly higher with the iFS system (78.14 mm Hg ± 23.6 [SD]) than with the Victus system (20.28 ± 6.7 mm Hg) (P =.0001). The LenSx system performed the suctioning and applanation phases simultaneously, making it impossible to obtain the results of the suctioning phase alone. The mean IOP elevation during the cutting phase was significantly lower with the LenSx system (20 ± 5.3 mm Hg) than with the iFS (108.1 ± 17.0 mm Hg) and Victus (96.4 ± 16.8 mm Hg) systems (P =.0001). The total surgical time was significantly lower with the LenSx system (17.21 ± 0.7 seconds) than with the iFS (25.10 ± 4.3 seconds) and Victus (33.40 ± 0.7 seconds) systems (P =.0001). The preliminary results suggest that the iFS and Victus systems induced higher IOP increases and required longer surgical times to cut a LASIK flap than the LenSx system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. Citation network analysis is a powerful tool that allows for a visual and objective representation of the past, present, and potential future directions of a research field. The objective of this study is using citation analysis network to analyse the evolution of knowledge in the field of orthokeratology. Materials and Methods. The database used in this citation networks analysis study was Scopus. The descriptor used was "orthokeratology" limited to three fields: title, keywords, and/or abstract, analysing the five most cited authors. Only articles cited at least twenty times were used. The computer software used was UCINET with two types of analysis, qualitative and quantitative. Results. 27 nodes have been included according to the search and inclusion criteria. In qualitative analysis, based on illustrate results, the relationships among nodes and their positions and connections show how the study of Cho et al. in 2005 is clearly positioned as a central cutoff point in the network. Quantitative analysis reveals the normalized value of the sample and shows how the study of Cho et al. in 2005 presents the highest percentage of input connections. Conclusions. This study shows the state of the flow of information in the orthokeratology field by providing links in bibliographic citations from a qualitative and quantitative point of view. Keratoconus is a bilateral and asymmetric disease which results in progressive thinning and steeping of the cornea leading to irregular astigmatism and decreased visual acuity. Traditionally, the condition has been described as a noninflammatory disease; however, more recently it has been associated with ocular inflammation. Keratoconus normally develops in the second and third decades of life and progresses until the fourth decade. The condition affects all ethnicities and both sexes. The prevalence and incidence rates of keratoconus have been estimated to be between 0.2 and 4,790 per 100,000 persons and 1.5 and 25 cases per 100,000 persons/year, respectively, with highest rates typically occurring in 20- to 30-year-olds and Middle Eastern and Asian ethnicities. Progressive stromal thinning, rupture of the anterior limiting membrane, and subsequent ectasia of the central/paracentral cornea are the most commonly observed histopathological findings. A family history of keratoconus, eye rubbing, eczema, asthma, and allergy are risk factors for developing keratoconus. Detecting keratoconus in its earliest stages remains a challenge. Corneal topography is the primary diagnostic tool for keratoconus detection. In incipient cases, however, the use of a single parameter to diagnose keratoconus is insufficient, and in addition to corneal topography, corneal pachymetry and higher order aberration data are now commonly used. Keratoconus severity and progression may be classified based on morphological features and disease evolution, ocular signs, and index-based systems. Keratoconus treatment varies depending on disease severity and progression. Mild cases are typically treated with spectacles, moderate cases with contact lenses, while severe cases that cannot be managed with scleral contact lenses may require corneal surgery. Mild to moderate cases of progressive keratoconus may also be treated surgically, most commonly with corneal cross-linking. This article provides an updated review on the definition, epidemiology, histopathology, aetiology and pathogenesis, clinical features, detection, classification, and management and treatment strategies for keratoconus. Purpose To evaluate how soft lens power affects rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lens power and visual acuity (VA) in piggyback fittings for keratoconus. Methods Sixteen keratoconus subjects (30 eyes) were included in the study. Piggyback contact lens fittings combining Senofilcon-A soft lenses of −6.00, −3.00, +3.00 and +6.00 D with Rose K2 RGP contact lenses were performed. Corneal topography was taken on the naked eye and over each soft contact lens before fitting RGP lenses. Mean central keratometry, over-refraction, RGP back optic zone radius (BOZR) and estimated final power as well as VA were recorded and analyzed. Results In comparison to the naked eye, the mean central keratometry flattened with both negative lens powers ( p < 0.05 in all cases), did not change with the +3.00 soft lens power ( p = 1.0); and steepened with the +6.00 soft lens power ( p = 0.02). Rigid gas-permeable over-refraction did not change significantly between different soft lens powers (all p > 0.05). RGP's BOZR decreased significantly with both positive in comparison with both negative soft lens powers (all p < 0.001), but no significant differences were found among negative- or positive-powers separately (both p > 0.05). Estimated RGP's final power increased significantly with positive in comparison with negative lens powers (all p < 0.001), but no significant differences were found among negative or positive lens powers separately (both p > 0.05). Visual acuity did not change significantly between the different soft lens powers assessed (all p > 0.05). Purpose. Quantifying adaptation to light distortion of subjects undergoing orthokeratology (OK) for myopia during the first month of treatment. Methods. Twenty-nine healthy volunteers (age: 22.34 ± 8.08 years) with mean spherical equivalent refractive error −2.10 ± 0.93D were evaluated at baseline and days 1, 7, 15, and 30 of OK treatment. Light distortion was determined using an experimental prototype. Corneal aberrations were derived from corneal topography for different pupil sizes. Contrast sensitivity function (CSF) was analyzed for frequencies of 1.50, 2.12, 3.00, 4.24, 6.00, 8.49, 12.00, 16.97, and 24.00 cpd under photopic conditions. Results. Average monocular values of all light distortion parameters measured increased significantly on day 1, returning to baseline after 1 week (P<0.05 in all cases). Spherical-like aberration stabilized on day 7 for all pupil diameters, while coma-like for smaller pupils only. CSF was significantly reduced on day 1 for all spatial frequencies except for 1.5 cpd, returning to baseline afterwards. Significant correlation was found between light distortion and contrast sensitivity for middle and high frequencies (P<0.05) after 15 days. Conclusion. Despite consistently increased levels of corneal aberrations, light distortion tends to return to baseline after one week of treatment, suggesting that neural adaptation is capable of overcoming optical quality degradation. Purpose: To assess long-term intraocular straylight changes induced by corneal refractive therapy (CRT) and to determine whether these changes persist after cessation of CRT lens wear. Methods: A single-center, prospective, longitudinal study was performed in 22 subjects (group 1) undergoing overnight corneal refractive therapy for 1 year. Ten right eyes of 10 subjects (group 2) with emmetropia served as controls. In each subject, high contrast visual acuity (HCVA), manifest refraction and intraocular straylight were determined at several time points during treatment and 1 month after discontinuing treatment. Straylight was measured using the van den Berg straylight meter (third generation). EDTRS charts (logMAR units) were used to assess HCVA. For both groups, only data for the right eyes were analyzed. Results: Straylight (mean±standard deviation) significantly fell from baseline (0.98±0.13) to values recorded after 1 month (0.88±0.13, p =0.011), 3 months (0.88±0.13, p =0.004), 6 months (0.88±0.13, p =0.000) and 12 months (0.76±0.12, p =0.003) of treatment. One month after discontinuing CRT lens wear, straylight was still significantly lower than baseline (0.89±0.13, p =0.003). No correlations were observed between intraocular straylight and HCVA. Conclusions: Good refractive outcomes and reductions in straylight were observed in response to corneal refractive therapy for myopia. Background: Many epidemiological and experimental studies have established that myopia is caused by a complex interaction between common genetic and environmental factors. The objective of this study was to describe and compare the allelic and genotypic frequencies of the rs524952 (GJD2), rs8000973 (ZIC2), rs1881492 (CHRNG), rs1656404 (PRSS56), rs235770 (BMP2), and rs7744813 (KCNQ5) SNPs (single-nucleotide polymorphism) between responder and nonresponder patients who had undergone a two-year treatment with lenses for myopia control. Method: Twenty-eight participants from the MiSight Assessment Study Spain (MASS), who had received treatment for myopia control for two years with MiSight contact lenses, were examined. The criteria for better/worse treatment response was the change in the axial length (< / ≥ 0.22 mm two years after the treatment). The clinical procedure consisted of the extraction of a saliva sample, and the participants also underwent an optometric examination. Genetic data were analyzed using SNPStats software (Catalan Institute of Oncology, Barcelona, Spain), and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v.25 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Demographic variables were analyzed using the Student's t-test. Results: The T allele, the one with the lowest frequency, of the "rs235770" SNP was associated with a better treatment response [AL/CR (axial length/corneal radius): OR = 3.37; CI = 1.079–10.886; SE (spherical equivalent): OR = 1.26; CI: = 0.519–57.169; p = 0.019). By performing haplotype analysis, significant differences were found between the rs235770...rs1881492 and rs235770–rs1656404 polymorphisms. The latter presented a strong linkage disequilibrium with each other (r2 ≥ 0.54). Conclusion: The result of lens therapies for myopia control could vary depending on genetic variants.
