3. Rentabilidad en empresas de desarrollo de software empírico y tradicional: un enfoque comparativo

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the profitability of software development companies through empirical software engineering indicators. To carry out this analysis, thirty software development companies were selected by collecting financial data. Empirical software engineering metrics were applied based on software, development staff and customer relationship, in order to obtain five performance indicators. Subsequently, companies were categorized according to size and application of empirical software engineering. The results determined the behavior of the performance indicators in companies that apply empirical software engineering and those that do not. A Monte Carlo simulation was carried out considering three different scenarios using triangular distribution, the results were compared, and the difference was obtained to identify the growth of the companies. In conclusion, three performance indicators were identified that show a significant improvement in the profitability of software development companies: Profit per Employee (3924.74) in large companies, (4798.67) in medium companies and (5399.30) in small companies, Net Profit Margin (0.4364) in large companies, (0.3066) in medium companies and (0.8787) in small companies and Return on Equity (ROE) (0.2555) in large companies, (0.4520) in medium companies and (1.11) in small companies. In addition, the Monte Carlo risk simulation analysis revealed that those companies that implement empirical software engineering obtain higher profitability compared to those that do not., El propósito del estudio es investigar la rentabilidad en empresas de desarrollo de software a través de indicadores de ingeniería de software empírica. Para llevar a cabo este análisis, se seleccionaron treinta empresas de desarrollo de software recopilando datos financieros. Se aplicaron métricas de ingeniería de software empírica basadas en el software, el personal de desarrollo y la relación con los clientes, con el fin de obtener cinco indicadores de desempeño. Posteriormente, se procedió a la categorización de las empresas según tamaño y aplicación de ingeniería de software empírica. Los resultados determinaron el comportamiento de los indicadores de desempeño en las empresas que aplican ingeniería de software empírica y las que no. Se llevó a cabo una simulación de Montecarlo que abarcó tres escenarios diferentes utilizando distribuciones triangulares. Se compararon los resultados y se determinó la diferencia para identificar el crecimiento de las empresas. En conclusión, se identificaron tres indicadores de desempeño que demuestran una mejora significativa en la rentabilidad de las empresas de desarrollo de software: beneficio por empleado (3924,74) en empresas grandes, (4798,67) en empresas medianas y (5399,30) en empresas pequeñas, margen de ganancia neta (0,4364) en empresas grandes, (0,3066) en empresas medianas y (0,8787) en empresas pequeñas y rentabilidad sobre patrimonio (ROE) (0,2555) en empresas grandes, (0,4520) en empresas medianas y (1,11) en empresas pequeñas. Además, el análisis de simulación de riesgos mediante Montecarlo reveló que aquellas empresas que implementan ingeniería de software empírica obtienen rentabilidad superior en comparación con aquellas que no la aplican.

5. Monitoring Forest Dynamics and Conducting Restoration Assessment Using Multi-Source Earth Observation Data in Northern Andes, Colombia.

Abstract

Examining the efficacy of current assessment methodologies for forest conservation and restoration initiatives to align with global and national agendas to combat deforestation and facilitate restoration efforts is necessary to identify efficient and robust approaches. The objective of this study is to understand forest dynamics (1996–2021) and assess restoration implementations at the Urra's supplying basin hydroelectric reservoir in Colombia. The processing approach integrates optical and radar Earth Observation (EO) data from Sentinel-2 and Landsat for forest mapping and multi-temporal forest change assessment (1996–2021), and a Sentinel-1 backscatter time-series analysis is conducted to assess the state of forest restoration implementations. The processing chain was scaled in a cloud-based environment using the Nebari and SEPPO software and the Python language. The results demonstrate an overall substantial decrease in forested areas in the 1996–2000 period (37,763 ha). An accuracy assessment of multi-temporal forest change maps showed a high precision in detecting deforestation events, while improvements are necessary for accurately representing non-forested areas. The forest restoration assessment suggests that the majority of the 270 evaluated plots are in the intermediate growth state (82.96%) compared to the reference data. This study underscores the need for robust and continuous monitoring systems that integrate ground truth data with EO techniques for enhanced accuracy and effectiveness in forest restoration and conservation endeavors. Abstract

As in other countries, public services in Ecuador are of great importance to ensure the effective functioning of society. Among these services, we have public housing, health, and education. These services are financed by the public treasury, which proceeds from taxes to citizens residing in the country, to specifically benefit these citizens. However, 2.21% of the Ecuadorian population is immigrant, mainly from Colombia and Peru, with a marked increase from Venezuela. This paper aims to analyze the situation of immigrants in Ecuador, in terms of theaccess to public services. Thus, 200 immigrants from Latin American and Caribbean countries who arrived in the Ecuadorian territory were interviewed in the last 4 years. We identified this sector of migration as the most vulnerable and, therefore, the greatest interest to our research. For this purpose, we use a new theory called NeutroAlgebra. NeutroAlgebra is an algebra that has at least one NeutroOperation or one NeutroAxiom, where some cases are indeterminate. Although NeutroAlgebra may seem to be only a mathematical theory with no practical application, there is a recent model of application of this theory in the study of immigrant barriers to public health services in Chile. A variant of this model is the one that we apply in our study because it has proven its usefulness.
