This comes with the territory of competing in a global market combined with technology making it easy for employees to seek and find interesting new opportunities to exploit. Millennials will dominate the workforce by 2020. It seems that most aspects of the lives of Millennials are integrated with technology. Technology in turn gave Millennials unique preferences in social as well as work related factors, such as communication. Organisations need to investigate and adapt in order to recruit and retain millennial employees. The aim of this study was to investigate the level of job satisfaction amongst Millennial employees of a selected company and identify specific factors (positive and negative) of influence on their job satisfaction. From knowledge gained and insights from literature, the study further aimed to make recommendations towards a more effective retention strategy. A quantitative research approach was followed, with a cross-sectional design. The Minnesota satisfaction questionnaire was applied to gather information on the level of Millennial's job satisfaction and their preference at a selected company in Florida Hills, Gauteng, South Africa. A convenience sample of fifty Millennials at the selected company of study was identified and forty-six responded (N=46). The results indicated a high level of satisfaction amongst the selected company's Millennial employees, with a slightly higher intrinsic satisfaction than extrinsic satisfaction. Activity, co-workers, security, supervision-technical and independence were amongst the positive work related factors and advancement, compensation and authority amongst the negative factors. Literature on retention strategies were investigated and knowledge gained from results on job satisfaction were applied to make recommendations towards enhanced millennial satisfaction and retention strategy. High-pressure waterjet technology is proposed as an alternative tool for selective underground mining of high-grade ore sections in stratiform orebodies showing a preferred 'bottom' or 'top' enrichment such as the Witwatersrand reefs and the Bushveld Complex platiniferous reefs. This technique, utilizing known mining technology together with more advanced machinery and additives as used in industrial and cleaning applications, may lead to an increased life-of-mine (LOM) for mining operations. A series of experiments was successfully carried out in a laboratory on Witwatersrand quartzite material, indicating acceptable cutting performance. Mining volumes by selectively cutting of reef portions are considered to be comparable to traditional drilling and blasting. Economic advantages of waterjet mining include energy savings due to the lower quantity of gangue rock to be hoisted to surface, as well as savings by a decrease in the usage of blasting materials. Capital expenditure of waterjet cutting, if applied on a broad scale, could be lower in the long term than that of conventional drilling and blasting methods. Mining by the application of high-pressure waterjet technology could become a competitive 'green technology' improving the economics and safety of labour-intensive mining operations. This paper suggests that waterjet cutting at an industrial scale can become a routine hard-rock mining technique in the future.

Research on resiliency and recovery in forensic psychiatric patients is still limited. Information pertaining to factors associated with successful community reintegration would contribute to a more comprehensive assessment of functioning and informed treatment planning that fits within a recovery approach of service provision. Using a retrospective design involving file reviews and a 3-year follow-up period, the authors investigated the rate of successful/unsuccessful community reintegration (defined by the presence or absence of an absolute discharge/readmission to hospital) in female forensic psychiatric patients (N=48). The study evaluated the extent to which the risk and protective factors captured in the Short-Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START) predicted a range of positive and negative outcomes in the study sample. Results showed that 47.9% of the women qualified as having successfully reintegrated into the community, with the remaining 52.1% qualifying as still being in recovery. Successful individuals possessed significantly more protective factors and significantly fewer risk factors than individuals still in recovery. Furthermore, both the vulnerability and the strength scale of the START demonstrated good predictive validity, however we did not find evidence of incremental validity of the strength scale. Thesis (MMus (Musicology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013 This dissertation explores the possible relationship between diaphragmaticintercostal breathing (DIB) and the occurrence of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) in singers who specialize in Western art music (classical music). It is the product of a research project that had its origins within the contexts of vocal performance and voice pedagogy. An increasing number of voice students present with symptoms relating to GERD, and informal conversations with professional singers have also indicated that this is a medical condition with which many have to cope. Because GERD has a definite influence on the singer’s voice, it is necessary for the voice pedagogue to not only be aware of the symptoms of GERD, but also to guide the student in seeking help. Therefore, this article has a dual purpose, namely providing singers and voice pedagogues with sufficient information on the nature of, and the relationship between DIB and GERD on the one hand and, and on the other hand, to make some suggestions on how a voice pedagogue can assist a student in attempts to minimize the occurrence and effects of GERD.
