Background: The initial version of SEDA assists life science researchers without programming skills with the preparation of DNA and protein sequence FASTA files for multiple bioinformatics applications. However, the initial version of SEDA lacks a command-line interface for more advanced users and does not allow the creation of automated analysis pipelines., Results: The present paper discusses the updates of the new SEDA release, including the addition of a complete command-line interface, new functionalities like gene annotation, a framework for automated pipelines, and improved integration in Linux environments., Conclusion: SEDA is an open-source Java application and can be installed using the different distributions available ( https://www.sing-group.org/seda/download.html ) as well as through a Docker image ( https://hub.docker.com/r/pegi3s/seda ). At the beginning of the pandemic, we observed that lithium carbonate had a positive effect on the recovery of severely ill patients with COVID-19. Lithium is able to inhibit the replication of several types of viruses, some of which are similar to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, increase the immune response and reduce inflammation by preventing or reducing the cytokine storm. Previously, we published an article with data from six patients with severe COVID-19 infection, where we proposed that lithium carbonate could be used as a potential treatment for COVID-19. Now, we set out to conduct a randomized clinical trial number EudraCT 2020-002008-37 to evaluate the efficacy and safety of lithium treatment in patients infected with severe SARS-CoV-2. We showed that lithium was able to reduce the number of days of hospital and intensive care unit admission as well as the risk of death, reduces inflammatory cytokine levels by preventing cytokine storms, and also reduced the long COVID syndromes. Pentachlorophenol (PCP) was, and still is, one of the most frequently used fungicides and pesticides. The use of PCP has been more restricted during the last few years. PCP's most important industrial application is as a wood preservative. The pentachlorophenol can be absorbed into the body by all the routes of occupational exposure. Some epidemiological observations suggest that exposure to PCP solutions may result in an increased risk for certain diseases in humans, e.g., immunodeficiency, blood disorders, malignancies, congenital anomalies. Chronic poisoning is difficult to detect since symptoms are often vague. Acute poisoning is due to interference with oxidative phosphorylation and can present itself as an unexpected case of sudden death. Four cases of PCP poisoning, including one fatalitie, occurred in two small wood preservative plants. All cases presented with increased serum creatinine phosphokinasa. The clinical finding are reported, and treatment modalities commented. At present there is no antidote for PCP. The basis for treatment is intensive supportive care to maintain vital bodily function. In one patient plasmapheresis was used and rapid recover was obtained. It is suggested that such therapy may be lifesaving in such intoxications.
