The Catalan Volcanic Zone (CVZ) (NE Spain) consists of an intraplate alkaline volcanic zone associated with the opening of the Western Mediterranean and the development of the European Rift System. Volcanic activity in the CVZ started in the L'Empordà area (ca. > 12¿8 Ma), extended to La Selva (7.9¿1.7 Ma), and finally migrated to the Garrotxa Volcanic Field (< 0.7¿0.01 Ma). Despite the scientific interest in the CVZ since the early 19th century, certain aspects remain poorly constrained. These include a full understanding of the spatial and temporal evolution of the magma plumbing system(s) and ascent mechanisms, as well as the chronology of volcanism across the CVZ. Addressing these unresolved questions requires geochemical, petrological, and geochronological data, which, in the case of the CVZ, are scattered and have never been integrated or analysed within a unified framework. Here, we present the CatVolc (Catalan Volcanism) database, which compiles available geochemical and geochronological data of volcanic-related materials from the CVZ. The current version of the database contains geochemical analyses from 405 rock samples (296 juvenile magmatic rocks -including lavas and pyroclasts- and 109 xenoliths), and radiometric/thermoluminescence dating data from 57 rocks (55 volcanogenic and two dykes), 4 paleosols samples developed between volcanic deposits and 1 sample from sediments. For each sample, the CatVolc database lists general information about the sampling site, sample lithology, whole-rock analyses (including major and trace elements), isotopic ratios, mineral chemistry, and radiometric/thermoluminescence dating information, if available. A preliminary analysis of the information contained in the CatVolc database highlights the critical limitations of the current state of knowledge and allows suggesting potential future directions for volcanic-driven investigations in the CVZ. [cat] Les últimes dècades Espanya ha esdevingut un dels països més progressistes quant a drets LGTBIQ+ (sigles que representen lesbianes, gais, trans, bisexuals, intersexuals, queer i altres col·lectius no heterosexuals i/o cissexuals). Va ser dels primers països a aprovar el matrimoni igualitari i a garantir la paritat a l’hora d’adoptar per part d’un matrimoni de persones del mateix sexe. Cal recordar també que no fa gaires dècades Espanya va viure sota una dictadura, durant la qual va haver-hi una forta repressió contra el col·lectiu LGTBIQ+. A hores d’ara, hi ha molta gent, sobretot d’edat avançada, que encara viu ancorada en aquesta cultura, per la qual cosa podem trobar un gran xoc cultural. Així doncs, ens podem veure en la situació —de cada vegada més comuna— que hi hagi gent gran que abans volia o havia de quedar a ca seva per por de (més) represàlies per part de la societat, i que ara —bé per decisió pròpia, bé per necessitat— passa els últims dies en una residència, no sense reticències pel que pugui trobar a la nova llar. Aquestes situacions posen de manifest el treball que la societat encara té per fer, si bé la població més jove ha assumit amb més normalitat la diversitat afectivosexual, però en les generacions de més edat és un tema que encara s’ha de treballar i que genera conflictes que cal abordar., [spa] En las últimas décadas España se ha convertido en uno de los países más progresistas en cuanto a derechos LGTBIQ+ (siglas que representan lesbianas, gays, trans, bisexuales, intersexuales, queer y otros colectivos no heterosexuales y/o cisexuales). Fue de los primeros países en obtener el matrimonio igualitario y en conseguir la paridad a la hora de adoptar por parte de un matrimonio de personas del mismo sexo. Cabe recordar también que no hace muchas décadas España vivió bajo una dictadura, durante la cual hubo una fuerte represión contra el colectivo LGTBIQ+. En estos momentos, hay mucha gente, sobre todo de edad avanzada, que todavía vive anclada en esta cultura, por lo que podemos encontrar un gran choque cultural. Así pues, nos podemos ver en la situación —cada vez más común— que haya gente mayor que antes quería o tenía que quedarse en casa por miedo a (más) represalias por parte de la sociedad, y que ahora —bien por decisión propia, bien por necesidad— pasa sus últimos días en una residencia, no sin reticencias por lo que pueda encontrar en su nuevo hogar. Estas situaciones ponen de manifiesto la tarea que la sociedad todavía tiene que hacer, si bien la población más joven ha asumido con más normalidad la diversidad afectivosexual, pero en las generaciones de mayor edad es un tema que todavía está por trabajar y que genera conflictos a abordar.

Synaptic events are important to define treatment strategies for brain disorders. In the present paper, freshly obtained rat brain striatal minces were incubated under different times and conditions to determine dopamine biosynthesis, storage, and tyrosine hydroxylase phosphorylation. Remarkably, we found that endogenous dopamine spontaneously accumulated during tissue incubation at 37 °C ex vivo while dopamine synthesis simultaneously decreased. We analyzed whether these changes in brain dopamine biosynthesis and storage were linked to dopamine feedback inhibition of its synthesis-limiting enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. The aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase inhibitor NSD-1015 prevented both effects. As expected, dopamine accumulation was increased with L-DOPA addition or VMAT2-overexpression, and dopamine synthesis decreased further with added dopamine, the VMAT2 inhibitor tetrabenazine or D auto-receptor activation with quinpirole, accordingly to the known synaptic effects of these treatments. Phosphorylation activation and inhibition of tyrosine hydroxylase on Ser31 and Ser40 with okadaic acid, Sp-cAMP and PD98059 also exerted the expected effects. However, no clear-cut association was found between dopamine feedback inhibition of its own biosynthesis and changes of tyrosine hydroxylase phosphorylation, assessed by Western blot and mass spectrometry. The later technique also revealed a new Thr30 phosphorylation in rat tyrosine hydroxylase. Our methodological assessment of brain dopamine synthesis and storage dynamics ex vivo could be applied to predict the in vivo effects of pharmacological interventions in animal models of dopamine-related disorders.

Complete digital pathology transformation for primary histopathological diagnosis is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. Its advantages are clear with more efficient workflows, but there are many technical and functional difficulties to be faced. The Catalan Health Institute (ICS) has started its DigiPatICS project, aiming to deploy digital pathology in an integrative, holistic, and comprehensive way within a network of 8 hospitals, over 168 pathologists, and over 1 million slides each year. We describe the bidding process and the careful planning that was required, followed by swift implementation in stages.
