Rolling bearings are used as support units in almost all modern transport and technological machines. Bearing units largely determine the durability of the machine as a whole. The main cause of bearing failure is wear of bearing parts due to slippage. The quantity of slip is needed to calculate the friction path in predicting wear. The paper deals with the problem of experimental determination of the slip value and predicting wear in rolling bearings of machines. A general methodology for solving the problem is proposed. The design of an experimental setup for determining slip is proposed. Experimental studies of the effect of load, speed and lubrication in rolling bearings have been carried out. For the calculated prediction of the wear of the raceway, the wear-contact problem is solved when the ball and the plane interact. The wear model is shown in dimensionless form. For the numerical determination of the parameters of the law of wear, a modified calculation and experimental technique is proposed. The proposed approaches make it possible to effectively predict the durability of rolling bearings based on the wear criterion for technological and transport machines. more...

Nowadays, coefficient of transverse deformation of material (Poisson’s ratio) can be determined by experimental methods very approximately. The reasons for the low accuracy are in the method itself, by which deformations are measured in local areas and very approximately. These deformations can be unevenly distributed over cross section and volume of a sample. It is proposed in this paper to determine Poisson’s ratio through bulk modulus. Various new schemes of experiments with complex stress state were implemented. Features of determining Poisson’s ratio of elastomers are shown. Any theoretical formula that includes Poisson’s ratio is suitable for this; for example, Hooke’s law or formula that establishes relationship between three elastic constants or formula of bulk modulus. From these formulas interesting and original experiments follow that make it possible to determine Poisson’s ratio with high accuracy. All elastomers have almost the same bulk modulus, which turned out to be 3000 MPa despite different values of Young’s modulus. Error for elastomers is approximately 2%; the error increases for harder materials. Thus, it becomes possible to determine Poisson’s ratio with sufficient accuracy for any material. more...

One of the most important and significantly affecting the behavior of technical systems is the wear process of elements. The use of numerical modules of application programs is carried out using the simulation and analysis of the physical processes occurring in the wear process. Numerical models should be based on the use of a unified mathematical apparatus and a methodological approach to describe the behavior of various types of technical tribosystems. Models should describe the wear process as a non-stationary random process. The paper analyzes the shaping of the wear surface of a radial plain bearing operating under conditions of skew axis of the shaft and sleeve. The problem was solved by the method of triboelements in the environment of the finite element package ANSYS. The combined use of triboelement and finite element methods has removed a number of restrictions in the calculation models. As a result of the calculation analysis, the presence of a transition wear zone was revealed and experimentally confirmed, quantitative parameters were determined, and the mechanism of its formation was explained. A comparative analysis of the results of numerical modeling and experiment shows a good agreement between qualitative and quantitative laws. The proposed complex algorithm for the numerical solution of the contact wear in a rally bearing is recommended for use in engineering calculations of the wear of various machines and mechanisms. more...

The maximum stress of the cycle should be limited not by yield strength but by tensile strength of detail material intended to be destructed. Therefore, such widespread linear approximations of Haigh diagram and conditions of Soderberg and Serensen-Kinasoshvili are not applicable for such details. Safety factor of fatigue strength of safety devices destructive elements should not exceed 1.0. Therefore, it is undesirable to use modified condition of Goodman for destructive elements. Two new variants of linear approximation of Haigh limit amplitudes diagram were developed. Both variants have proven their efficiency in design and operation of safety devices with destructive elements in framework of laboratory ‘Protection of metallurgical machines from breakdowns’ of the Chief mechanic department of PJSC ‘ILYICH IRON AND STEEL WORKS’ (Mariupol city, Ukraine). more...

The paper studies the relationship between principal stresses, curvature radii and shell thinning during superplastic forming of sphere-shaped domes from sheet blanks of several Al-Mg alloys and Sn-38% Pb alloy, which is the basis for refining the calculations of the power characteristics of the process. When using the Lame’s superellipse to describe the curvature of the shells, it was established that the principal stresses, especially the tangential stress, depend on the principal curvature radii. It is shown that the intensity of stresses also depends on the thinning of the shells during superplastic forming. It is revealed that the higher the level of superplastic properties of the material of the blank, the less the principal stresses and effective stresses depend on the difference between the principal radii of curvature. It has been established that when calculating the power mode of superplastic forming of shells, it is unacceptable the assumption of uniform thinning of the blank during forming, since the calculation error can reach 130%. more...

The mathematical model and software for calculation of the work of rams with the universal rotary elastic compensators is considered. The theory of stability loss of core systems with elastic fixing in static position was taken as the basis of evaluating strain in a compression ram, when operating with elastic compensators. The program implements the algorithm of numeric solution of the corresponding differential problem with application of difference approximation and Newton’s iteration procedure. The developed program includes the determination of displacements and stresses in longitudinally bent extrusion plungers and ordinates of their critical sections within which destruction occurs. Integrated modules of developed CAD-system components allow assessing the alternations of power modes at different operations and selecting appropriate design parameters of elastic compensators for realization of reaction momentum at which strain in long-length working tool will not exceed critical values. The results of computer simulation are the basis for choosing the design parameters of the compensators, which allow reducing the bending stresses and ensuring reliable operation of the long tool. more...

The article is devoted to superplastic forming of non-uniformly heated sheet blanks from aluminum alloy AMg6M. To create an uneven temperature field over the surface of the blank, coatings made of sublimated substances were used from at temperatures 50…150°C below the superplastic forming temperature (450°C for AMg6M alloy). An aqueous solute of chloride and ammonium iodide having a sublimation temperature at normal pressure and a latent heat of conversion equal to 338 and 404°C, 330 and 355kJ/kg, respectively, was sprayed onto the central zones of the blanks. Superplastic forming of shells was carried out in two modes: 1) with simultaneous sublimation of the coating; 2) with the beginning of the sublimation of the coating upon reaching the height, which is formed by the workpiece, equal to 20-30% of the final shell height. The experiments showed a decrease in the thickness of the shells to be formed up to 4-10% on the working surface of the shells (without taking into account their flange zones) and the savings of sublimate during superplastic forming in the second mode. The optimal subliming coating for AMg6M alloy was ammonium chloride. more...

Innovative materials and structures are analyzed in this paper. To calculate the strength of the collision of flat wagons for the transport of large containers, there is no clear methodology for determining effort interaction between the container and the platform. At high longitudinal acceleration of the container, it is set in motion, and the consideration of this problem in a static setting impossible. The relevance of this work is to develop a methodology that is based on the equations of motion and considers dynamic interaction between container and platform. more...
