Dissertação de mestrado em Optometria Avançada, Objetivo: Avaliar o impacto do uso de lentes oftálmicas com filtro seletivo à luz azul, na sensibilidade visual ao contraste e na visão das cores. Amostra: Foram recrutados 17 voluntários, dos quais 13 eram do sexo feminino e 4 do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 21 e os 29 anos. Métodos: A sensibilidade visual ao contraste foi medida usando o teste Vector Vision CVS1000E e a visão das cores foi medida usando o teste de Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test. Foram utilizados três pares de lentes com características distintas, um par com o anti-reflexo simples e sem filtro à luz azul (lente controlo, Lente 2), outro par de lentes com filtro à luz azul por reflexão (Lente 3) e outro par de lentes com filtro à luz azul incorporado na matriz da lente (Lente 1). Ambos os parâmetros foram avaliados com cada uma das lentes utilizadas neste estudo. A iluminação da sala para os diferentes testes utilizados, foi medida através do luxímetro (Iluminance meter T-10; Konica Minolta Sensing Inc., Japan). Resultados: Para a sensibilidade visual ao contraste, não foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas na comparação das três lentes testadas, para a frequência 3 ciclos/grau (p = 0, 29), 6 ciclos/grau (p = 0,54), 12 ciclos/grau (p = 0,07) e 18 ciclos/grau (p = 0,31). Em relação à visão das cores, durante a utilização dos diferentes pares de lentes, não foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas. A pontuação total de erro apresentou um valor p de 0,58, em relação ao índice de confusão e de seletividade, o valor p foi de 0,80 e 0,74, respetivamente. Conclusão: Os resultados obtidos demonstram que a utilização de filtros à luz azul não influência a sensibilidade visual ao contraste nem a visão das cores., Objective: To evaluate the impact of wearing ophthalmic lenses with selective blue light filter, on visual contrast sensitivity and color vision. Sample: Seventeen volunteers were recruited, of which 13 were female and 4 were male, aged between 21 and 29. Methods: Visual contrast sensitivity was measured using the Vector Vision CVS1000E test and color vision was measured using the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test. Three pairs of lenses with different characteristics were used, one pair with the simple anti-reflective and no blue light filter (control lens, Lens 2), another pair of lenses with blue light filter by reflection (Lens 3) and another pair of lenses with the blue light filter incorporated into the lens matrix (Lens 1). Both parameters were evaluated with each of the lenses used in this study. The illuminance of the room for the different tests used, was measured using a luxmeter (Iluminance meter T-10; Konica Minolta Sensing Inc., Japan). Results: For visual contrast sensitivity, no statistically significant differences were found when comparing the three lenses tested, for the frequency 3 cycles/degree (p = 0, 29), 6 cycles/degree (p = 0.54), 12 cycles/degree (p = 0.07) and 18 cycles/degree (p = 0.31). Regarding color vision while using the different pairs of lenses, no statistically significant differences were found. The total error score showed a p-value of 0.58, for the confusion index and selectivity index, the p-value was 0.80 and 0.74, respectively. Conclusion: The results obtained show that the use of blue light filters does not influence visual contrast sensitivity or color vision.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo relatar as atividades desenvolvidas ao longo do estágio curricular realizado na editora Trinta Por Uma Linha de janeiro a abril de 2021, no âmbito do Mestrado em Estudos Editoriais da Universidade de Aveiro. Na primeira parte será feita uma apresentação da editora, da sua oferta editorial e do seu público-alvo, enquadrando-a no panorama editorial infantil português. De seguida, falarei sobre a literatura e a edição infantis e, por fim, descreverei as tarefas realizadas ao longo do estágio, tendo em conta o seu enquadramento teórico. Terminarei com uma reflexão crítica sobre a minha experiência no mestrado e no estágio. The present work aims to describe the activities accomplished during the internship carried out at the publishing house Trinta Por Uma Linha from January to April 2021 for completion of the Masters in Publishing Studies at Universidade de Aveiro. In the first part there will be a presentation of the publisher, its editorial offer, and its target audience, considering its place in the overview of Portuguese publishing for children. Then, I will be talking about children’s literature and publishing and describing the tasks performed during the internship, considering its academic context. Vivemos num mundo marcado pela incerteza e pelo crescimento acentuado da informação, que circula a uma velocidade fugaz e a uma escala global. Por outro lado, os avanços da sociedade da informação e do conhecimento apresentam novos desafios para a Educação, a Escola, os professores e o ensino da História. Desta feita, as directrizes recentemente promulgadas pelo Ministério da Educação aproximam-se das agendas de instituições internacionais e europeias de referência, na defesa de práticas educativas que capacitem os alunos para os desafios contemporâneos. Assim, as competências a desenvolver pelos alunos relacionam-se com uma Educação humanizadora, inclusiva e integral. Mas, uma concepção de Educação voltada para a cidadania e inscrita nos valores democráticos de participação, de responsabilidade e de solidariedade, apresenta novos desafios às disciplinas, entre as quais a História, que assume um papel fundamental no actual paradigma da Educação. Este relatório revela um estudo desenvolvido durante a Prática de Ensino Supervisionada realizada na Escola Secundária de Cacilhas-Tejo, no ano lectivo de 2019/2020, assente em abordagens à História local e ao Património no ensino da História A e da História da Cultura e das Artes. Procede-se a uma reflexão teoricamente fundamentada sobre as suas potencialidades para o ensino dessas disciplinas no actual paradigma da Educação. Para o efeito, apresenta-se uma análise de dados obtidos a partir de diferentes técnicas e instrumentos de recolha de dados e de trabalho, de natureza qualitativa e auxiliada por análises quantitativas, inspirada nos procedimentos da Grounded Theory. Concluiu-se que a História local e o Património, para lá de constituírem elementos de motivação para o estudo das disciplinas, permitem uma progressão conceptual na maioria dos alunos, com o desenvolvimento de competências, uma maior compreensão histórica e consciência patrimonial, e o exercício da cidadania activa. We live in a world marked by uncertainty and the sharp growth of information that circulates fast and in a global scale. On the other hand, information and knowledge society advances present new challenges for Education, School, teachers and history teaching. Therefore, the recent guidelines enacted by the Ministry of Education get closer to the international institutions agenda and European references on the defense of educational practices that capacitate students for contemporary challenges. Accordingly, the competences to be developed by the students are to be related to a more humanizing, inclusive and integral Education. However, a conception of Education aligned with citizenship and enrolled on the democratic participation, responsibility and solidarity values present new challenges on the subjects in which History contains a fundamental roll on the current Educational Paradigm. This report reveals a study developed during PES, conducted in Escola Secundária de Cacilhas-Tejo during the 2019/2020 academic year based on Local History and Heritage approaches to the teachings of História A and História da Cultura e das Artes. This study proceeds a theoretical reflection based on the potentialities for the teaching of these school subjects on the current Teaching Paradigm. For the purpose, it is presented a data analysis obtained from different work and data collecting qualitative nature techniques and tools and supported by a quantitative analysis inspired by Grounded Theory procedures. In conclusion, Local History and Heritage, besides building motivational elements for the study of subjects, allow a conceptual progression in some students with the development of competences, a better historical comprehension and heritage conscience, and the exercise of active citizenship.

We live in a world of limited biological resources and ecosystems, which are essential to feed people. Consequently, diversifying target species and considering full exploitation are essential for fishery sustainability. The present study focuses on the valorization of three low commercial value fish species (blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus; black seabream, Spondyliosoma cantharus; and piper gurnard, Trigla lyra) and of two unexploited species (comber, Serranus cabrilla and boarfish, Capros aper) through the development of marine-based food products with added value. A preliminary inquiry with 155 consumers from Região de Lisboa e Vale do Tejo (Center of Portugal) was conducted to assess fish consumption, the applicability of fish product innovation, and the importance of valorizing discarded fish. Five products (black seabream ceviche, smoked blue jack mackerel pâté, dehydrated piper gurnard, fried boarfish, and comber pastries) were developed and investigated for their sensory characteristics and consumer liking by hedonic tests to 90 consumers. The most important descriptors were identified for each product (texture, flavor, color, and appearance). Comber pastries had the highest purchase intention (88%), followed by black seabream ceviche (85%) and blue jack mackerel pâté (76%). Sensory evaluations showed a clear tendency of consumers to accept reformulated products, with the introduction of the low-value and unexploited species under study. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

O presente trabalho teve como propósito analisar as perceções de cinco professores titulares de turma do 1ºCEB e de dois professores de Educação Especial quanto à adequação das alterações introduzidas pelo Novo Regime Jurídico da Educação Inclusiva (Decreto Lei n.º 54/2018, de 6 de julho), com base nas suas práticas pedagógicas. Assim, como objetivos procurou-se: por um lado, caracterizar, de um ponto de vista teórico, a evolução das abordagens adotadas para proporcionar uma educação escolar às crianças com NEE; por outro lado, conhecer os pontos fortes e fragilidades que professores titulares do 1.º CEB e professores de Educação Especial identificam no atual (e novo) Regime Jurídico da Educação Inclusiva (NRJEI), em comparação com o modelo anterior (DL n.º 3/2008, de 7 de janeiro) e face à sua experiência pedagógica; e ainda, conhecer as opiniões dos docentes sobre as condições necessárias para uma resposta adequada aos requisitos do novo enquadramento e as suas expectativas quanto ao sucesso da operacionalização do NRJEI. Para responder aos objetivos propostos, realizou-se um estudo qualitativo exploratório centrado num estabelecimento escolar do concelho de Lisboa. Os dados foram recolhidos por entrevista semi diretiva e sujeitos a análise de conteúdo. Os resultados destacam contributos positivos, fragilidades e possíveis melhorias atribuídos pelos participantes ao NRJEI. Será pertinente o alargamento, em estudos futuros, deste tipo de trabalho a um maior e mais diverso grupo de professores e/ou encarregados de educação de forma a obter uma visão abrangente sobre esta questão. The present study analyzes the perceptions of five primary teachers and two special education teachers regarding the adequacy of the measures introduced by the new legal framework for Inclusive Education (Decree Law No. 54/2018 of 6th July), on basis of their pedagogical practices. Three main objectives were defined for the study. The first, was to characterize, from a theoretical point of view, the evolution of the approaches adopted to provide school education for children with Special Educative Necessities (SEN). The second objective was to identify the strengths and weaknesses that primary teachers and special education teachers identify in the current (and new) Inclusive Education Legal Framework (IELF), compared to the previous model and according to their pedagogical experience. The third objective was to understand the teachers' opinions about the necessary conditions for an adequate response to the requirements of the new legal framework and their expectations regarding its successful implementation. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, an exploratory qualitative study was performed in a school establishment, in Lisbon. Data was collected by semi directive interviews and subjected to content analysis. The results highlight the contributions, weaknesses and desirable improvements pointed out by the participants who daily perform their pedagogical work under the current normative framework. It will be appropriate to extend this work in future studies to a larger and more diverse group of teachers and/or parents in order to gain a more comprehensive view of this issue.

Salema, Sarpa salpa is a commercial exploited species in the Atlantic Ocean with little available information for the essential population parameters, such as age, growth and reproduction. The present study aims to describe these parameters for S. salpa obtained off the coast of Portugal. Ages were estimated from the whole otolith readings; the minimum and the maximum ages observed were 0 and 14 years, respectively, corresponding to 5.2 and 41.4 cm of total length (TL). Whole otolith readings and back-calculation approaches were used to estimate the parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth function and the Akaike's information criterion value suggested that the second approach was the best one to describe the growth of salema: L∞ = 45.07 cm, k = 0.14 year−1 and t0 = −1.43 year. The species is a protandric hermaphrodite and the sex change process occurred between 28.6 and 40.9 cm TL. A short spawning season was identified, extending from September to November. The estimated length at first maturity for males was 24.5 cm TL, corresponding to an age of 2 years at first maturity. This species exhibited a determinate fecundity type and the relative annual fecundity varied between 462 and 2662 oocytes per gram of gutted weight.

Background. The small red scorpionfish, Scorpaena notata Rafinesque, 1810, appears as a bycatch of Portuguese fisheries. Bycatch species are likely to suffer the same declines as commercial species with which they co-occur but information on those species for Portuguese waters does not exist. In order to increase the knowledge for the Portuguese continental-shelf waters several aspects of the species growth were investigated. Materials and methods. Age and growth of Scorpaena notata from Portuguese continental-shelf waters were studied using 379 otoliths. A subsample of 70 otoliths, covering all length classes, was read by three of the authors to establish a reading and interpretation pattern. The von Bertalanffy growth model was fitted to sex-specific age–length data. The likelihood ratio tests were used to evaluate the significance of differences on growth parameters between sexes and with the parameters estimated in different areas. Results. Females dominated in smaller length classes while males prevailed in larger ones, although overall sex ratio did not deviate from 1 : 1. Females ranged from 10.5 to 18.8 cm total length (TL) and from 1 to 6 years; males ranged from 11.4 to 20.7 cm TL and from 1 to 7 years. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated for the Portuguese shelf waters showed significant differences between sexes and were: L∞ = 18.23 cm TL, k = 0.43yr–1, t0 = –0.99 yr for females and L∞ = 21.17 cm TL, k = 0.28yr–1 and t0 = –1.73 yr for males. The age range found in the Portuguese shelf waters was similar to that found in the Balearic Islands but about half of that found for the Adriatic Sea. Significant differences between growth parameters from the Portuguese coast and those from the Balearic Islands and Adriatic Sea were found. Conclusion. Estimates of L∞ in the presently reported study were the highest but rather consistent with the maximum length given for the species.

Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Psicologia, Intransitive gestures are categorized as mental or instrumental, as they are performed close or far from the body. In the present study, we investigated the neural correlates of intransitive gestures processing. In addition, we explored the relationship between cognitive and praxis skills by considering the role of theory of mind and verbal abilities in intransitive mental and instrumental gestures, respectively. Using an event-related fMRI paradigm we assessed the brain activation of 12 healthy participants that were required to perform a gesture recognition task. Participants also performed theory of mind and verbal fluency tasks. The fMRI analysis showed that intransitive mental gestures activated frontal and temporal brain areas, whereas intransitive instrumental gestures activated the frontal, temporal, parietal and insular cortex. Furthermore, we found that when processing intransitive mental gestures, a stronger activation on middle frontal gyrus was associated with better performance on the theory of mind task. In contrast, for intransitive instrumental gestures, a stronger activation of the inferior frontal gyrus was associated with a better performance on the language task. Our findings suggest that the space in which gestures are performed influence the brain activation, but also highlight the role of cognitive abilities in intransitive gestures processing., Os gestos intransitivos são classificados como mentais ou instrumentais, caso sejam realizados perto ou longe do corpo. Neste estudo, foram investigadas as bases neuronais dos gestos intransitivos. Adicionalmente, foi explorada a relação entre competências cognitivas e motoras, considerando o papel da teoria da mente e da linguagem no processamento de gestos intransitivos mentais e instrumentais, respetivamente. Utilizando ressonância magnética funcional, foram avaliados os padrões de ativação cerebral de 12 participantes saudáveis enquanto realizavam uma tarefa de reconhecimento de gestos num paradigma de eventos. Posteriormente, foram administrados testes de avaliação de teoria da mente e linguagem. Os resultados mostraram que gestos mentais ativaram áreas frontais e temporais, enquanto gestos instrumentais ativaram áreas do córtex frontal, temporal, parietal e insular. Também se verificou que melhor desempenho em tarefas de teoria da mente estava associado a maior ativação da circunvolução frontal média, quando os participantes reconheciam gestos mentais. Já, quando os participantes reconheciam gestos instrumentais, verificou-se que melhor desempenho em tarefas de linguagem estava associado a maior ativação da circunvolução frontal inferior. Estes resultados sugerem que o espaço onde os gestos são executados influencia as áreas cerebrais recrutadas no processamento de gestos, e realçam a importância das capacidades cognitivas no seu processamento.

A estabilidade da frente de escavação em túneis executados abaixo do nível freático é um fator fundamental para garantir a execução da escavação em segurança. Os métodos construtivos mecanizados facilitam essa garantia, sendo as tuneladoras Earth Pressure Balance - EPB - utilizadas em casos com presença de nível freático. Esta dissertação pretende contribuir para a compreensão de como a pressão de suporte limite é afetada pela presença de água num túnel superficial escavado em maciço terroso, em condições drenadas. É efetuado um breve enquadramento teórico dos métodos de escavação existentes, das considerações gerais do modelo de análise de estabilidade e dos métodos de análise de estabilidade existentes com e sem presença de nível freático. De entre estes métodos de análise consideram-se relevantes as soluções analíticas de Leca e Dormieux (1990) e Anagnostou e Kovári (1996b). No plaxis 2D modelada-se o caso de um túnel referido em Lu et al. (2014), obtendo-se uma boa correlação entre as soluções obtidas por este autor e as obtidas no âmbito deste trabalho e ainda com as soluções analíticas referidas. Procede-se a uma análise paramétrica com o objetivo de estudar os efeitos que a água provoca na frente de escavação com a variação do recobrimento relativo, da sobrecarga aplicada à superfície, do ângulo de resistência ao corte e do coeficiente de permeabilidade. Efetua-se igualmente uma comparação dos resultados obtidos com os obtidos por outros autores.

Trabalho de Projeto do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina apresentado à Faculdade de Medicina O SOP é a endocrinopatia mais frequente no sexo feminino, podendo manifestar-se na adolescência. Efetivamente estão associadas diversas implicações clínicas significativas, como alterações reprodutivas, metabólicas e psicológicas. Apesar de todos os estudos realizados, a sua etiologia permanece ainda desconhecida; no entanto, a componente genética e ambiental tem bastante preponderância.Ainda que bastante frequente, é uma patologia sobejamente subdiagnosticada. As manifestações clínicas associadas são fáceis de reconhecer nas mulheres adultas; no entanto é difícil identificar o SOP nas jovens, uma vez que muitas das alterações clínicas podem ser compatíveis com o desenvolvimento pubertário. Este trabalho de revisão teve como objetivos: identificar as diversas consequências do SOP na adolescência, os métodos de diagnóstico destas alterações nas jovens com SOP e quais as melhores estratégias terapêuticas aplicadas a estas faixas etárias.Em conclusão, a obesidade, o síndrome metabólico, o hiperandrogenismo e as irregularidades menstruais são alterações que têm grande impacto na qualidade de vida destas jovens, sendo de extrema importância arranjar estratégias para contrariar tais mudanças. A implementação de um estilo de vida saudável, com recurso a exercício físico e uma dieta saudável, é um dos pilares do tratamento do SOP na adolescência, podendo complementar-se com terapêuticas farmacológicas numa tentativa de controlar melhor os sintomas. A gestão da adolescente com SOP constitui um grande desafio e requer uma abordagem multidisciplinar e um grande ambiente de suporte para obter bons resultados, além de ser essencial que estas jovens compreendam a sua patologia e participem activamente em todo o processo terapêutico, de forma a evitar comportamentos que levem a profundas alterações físicas e psicológicas PCOS is the most frequent endocrinopathy in females. It can manifest in adolescence and has several significant clinical implications, including reproductive, metabolic and psychological changes. Despite all the studies carried out, its etiology remains unknown however the genetic and environmental components are quite preponderant factors. Although quite frequent, it is a rather underdiagnosed pathology. Associated clinical manifestations are easy to recognize in adult women, however, it is difficult to identify PCOS in young women, since many of the clinical changes may be compatible with pubertal development. The objective of this review was to identify the different consequences of PCOS in adolescence, methods for diagnosing these changes in young people with PCOS and the best therapeutic strategies applied to these age groups. In conclusion, obesity, metabolic syndrome, hyperandrogenism and menstrual irregularities are changes that have a great impact on the quality of life of these young women, and it is extremely important to find strategies to counter such changes. The implementation of a healthy lifestyle with exercise and healthy eating is one of the pillars of the treatment of PCOS in adolescence and can be supplemented with pharmacological therapies in an attempt to better control the symptoms. The management of the teenager with PCOS is a great challenge and requires a multidisciplinary approach and a great support environment to obtain good results, besides being essential that these young women understand their pathology and participate actively in all the therapeutic process, in order to avoid behaviors that lead to profound physical and psychological changes

Two hundred and seven individuals (103 females and 104 males) of bluemouth Helicolenus dactylopterus (Scorpaeniformes, Sebastidae), a commercially important deep-water species with an unusual reproductive strategy, from the eastern Atlantic Ocean ranging from 13·9 to 37·5 cm total length (LT ) were analysed from September 2011 to October 2012. The analysis included gonad maturity phases and blood-plasma levels of oestradiol-17β (E2 ), 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) and 17,20β-dihydroxypregn-4-en-3-one (17,20β-P). Results confirmed the existence of an annual reproductive cycle with asynchrony between females and males and a spawning season from January to May. A pronounced peak in 17,20β-P in October for both sexes was associated with possible mating behaviour and recent copula. Levels of E2 increased preceding the elevation of the gonado-somatic index during ovarian growth and were lower during regression and regeneration. The frequency distribution of oocyte-embryonic stages and variation of hormone levels suggest the existence of daily rhythms. Fertilization was detected between 2000-0000 and 0800-1200 h and spawning took place throughout the day peaking between 2000 and 0000 h. The cyclic pattern of sex steroids and ovarian recruitment provides a new insight into the reproductive strategy of this species.

Dissertação para obtenção do grau de Mestre no Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Egas Moniz Objetivo: A prostodontia é uma disciplina que envolve vários passos clínicos e laboratoriais e o seu sucesso depende da estreita colaboração entre Médicos Dentistas (MD) e Técnicos de Prótese Dentária (TPD). A comunicação entre MD e TPD deve existir e ser eficaz de forma a minimizar os erros na confeção de próteses parciais removíveis, minimizando também a infecção cruzada. O objetivo deste estudo-piloto é aferir a qualidade da comunicação entre o MD e o TPD no que respeita às próteses parciais removíveis: desinfeção de impressões; evidência de preparação de nichos; desenho do conector maior e forma de transmissão do pedido. Materiais e Métodos: estudo piloto, aplicado a 23 laboratórios das regiões de Lisboa e Almada, sob a forma de um questionário. Resultados: 50% dos TPD inquiridos não sabe o estado de desinfeção das impressões quando as recebe no laboratório; 86,4% dos TPD afirma não haver a evidência de preparação de nichos nas impressões definitivas/modelos de trabalho recebidos no laboratório; 90,9% dos TPD afirma não receber qualquer informação sobre o desenho do conector maior; 31,8% afirma que a requisição é feita de forma descritiva e 27,3% afirma que não é dada qualquer indicação na requisição. Conclusão: os parâmetros de comunicação entre os MD e os TPD na confeção de próteses parciais removíveis são geralmente inadequados e muitas das especificações necessárias ao TPD não lhe são corretamente transmitidas pelo MD. A requisição do trabalho deveria ser recebida com uma prescrição detalhada e com a informação correta do estado de desinfeção dos materiais recebidos no laboratório. A responsabilidade do desenho da PPR parece ficar ao cargo do TPD. É dada pouca importância à preparação dos dentes para receber a PPR.

Gonads of the NE Atlantic black scabbardfish were examined to give an insight into the reproductive biology of this species. It was concluded that black scabbardfish had determinate fecundity because: (i) a distinct hiatus in oocyte size was observed between pre-vitellogenic and vitellogenic oocytes; (ii) vitellogenic oocytes increased in size during the spawning season; (iii) the number of vitellogenic oocytes did not increase during the spawning season; and (iv) the intensity of atresia was low in pre-spawning and spawning ovaries. Fecundity estimates ranged from 73 to 373 oocytes g-1 female. Comparison of developing ovaries from mainland Portugal and Madeira revealed that those from Madeira were more advanced in development, with more cortical alveoli stage oocytes and a higher gonadosomatic index. Starting in July, the reproductive development of all females from mainland Portugal was interrupted by a generalised atresia of developing oocytes. Completion of gametogenesis and spawning only occurred for fish from Madeira but some fish from this area also failed to complete oocyte development due to mass follicular atresia of vitellogenic oocytes. The percentage of Madeiran fish that failed to spawn due to follicular atresia ranged from 21.2% in 2006 to 37.4% in 2005. Las gónadas del sable negro del Atlántico nordeste fueron examinadas para conocer la biología reproductiva de esta especie. Los resultados sobre el tipo de fecundidad mostraron que la especie tenía una fecundidad determinada en base a los siguientes hechos: (i) hiato entre ovocitos previtelogénicos y vitelogénicos; (ii) aumento de tamaño de los ovocitos vitelogénicos durante el período de puesta; (iii) ausencia de incremento en el número permanente de ovocitos vitelogénicos avanzados durante el período de puesta y (iv) una pequeña atresia en los ovarios antes de la ovulación y durante ella. Las estimaciones de fecundidad se establecieron entre 73 y 373 ovocitos g-1 hembra. La comparación de los ovarios de hembras en desarrollo de aguas frente a Portugal continental y las de Madeira mostró una diferencia significativa en el tamaño medio de los ovocitos entre las dos áreas, y que las hembras de Madeira presentaron una mayor cantidad de ovocitos con alvéolos corticales y un índice gonadosomático mayor. A partir de julio y en hembras recolectadas frente a Portugal de continente, todos los individuos comenzaron a sufrir una atresia generalizada en sus ovocitos, mientras que en las aguas de Madeira, el ciclo reproductivo continúa hasta ovulación. Sin embargo, en algunas hembras de Madeira la gametogénesis también se paraliza y todos los ovocitos vitelogénicos son absorbidos vía atresia folicular. El porcentaje de hembras no reproductivas varió del 21.23% en 2006 al 37.4% en 2005.
