Abstract

The development and study of new ferromagnetic couplers is important due to the central role of ferromagnetic coupling units in magnetic material design. The use of metallocenes are used as magnetic couplers of radical centers was unprecedented. A series of monoradicals were synthesized and studied as model compounds and diradicals, providing an opportunity to consider the role of the central metal in their electronic structure. The diradicals provided insights into the magnetic interaction of radical centers which were discovered to be antiferromagnetic.

Abstract

A new organic-inorganic hybrid salt [TM-TTFt][Cr(NCS)4(isoquinoline)2 ](TM-TTF = Tetramethyltetrathiafulvalene) was amalgamated. The results indicate a small external field bulk spontaneous magnetization, with a Tc of 6.6K, consistent with the presence of weakly coupled ferrimagnetic order.

Abstract

Herein, we report the synthesis and the study of a novel mixed biradical with BDPA and TEMPO radical units that are covalently bound by an ester group (BDPAesterTEMPO) as a polarizing agent for fast dissolution DNP. The biradical exhibits an extremely high DNP NMR enhancement of ＞50 000 times, which constitutes one of the largest signal enhancements observed so far, to the best of our knowledge. Abstract

The crystalline network structure of conducting (ET)2I3reticulate doped polycarbonate (RDP) films were analysed by X-ray as well as ESR, transport properties and superconducting characteristics of the films were investigated. It was found that under certain conditions of the second step of the RDP-film preparation, an oriented α–(ET)2I3crystalline network is formed. The c-axis of the linked α–(ET)2I3crystallites are perpendicular to the film surface and consequently their conducting layers are parallel to this surface. Moreover, this type of crystalline network orientation is kept during the α- →βt-(ET)2I3transition which takes place under film annealing. Thus, the conducting layers of the linked superconducting βt-(ET)2I3crystals are also parallel to the film surface. It was demonstrated that superconducting properties are present in all parts of the βt-(ET)2I3RDP film.

Abstract

The synthesis, structure, anion composition, and physical properties of a new organic conductor (BEDT-TTF)2[(IBr2)0.2(BrICl)0.1(ICl2)0.7], where BEDT-TTF = bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene, are described in detail. This molecular conductor exists as two polymorphs displaying semiconducting (β‘-phase) and metallic (β‘ ‘-phase) transport properties. Complete β‘ ‘ to β and partial β‘ ‘ to β‘ transformation have been discovered for the first time in conducting BEDT-TTF-based salts and studied by using ESR spectroscopy. Both transformations are irreversible, the β‘ ‘ → β one resulting from high-temperature solid-state reactions. The β‘ ‘- and β-phases are variable in composition.

Abstract

A series of complexes of copperii-containing a perchlorotriphenylmethyl radical functionalized with a carboxylic group as a new ligand is reported. The compounds CuPTMMC2L3 PTMMC (tetradecachloro-4-carboxytriphenylmethyl radical; L 1 H2O, 2 pyrimidine and ethanol or 3 pyridine, Cu2PTMMC2MeCOO2H2O24 and CuHPTMMC2L3 HPTMMC α-H-tetradecachlorotriphenylmethane-4-carboxylic acid; L pyridine 5 were structurally characterized. In complexes 1, 2, 3and 5, the copperii ion is coordinated to two PTMMC or HPTMMC units in a slightly distorted square planar surrounding, while 4shows a paddle-wheel copperii dimer structure, where each Cu metal ion has four O atoms of different carboxylate groups, two of them belonging to two PTMMC radicals. The copperii–radical exchange couplings are antiferromagnetic for complexes 1, 2and 3. A linear three-spin model was applied to complexes 1, 2and 3to give JkB −24.9, −15.0 and −20.7 K, respectively. Magnetic properties of 4show that it is one of the scarce examples of a spin-frustrated system composed of organic radicals and metal ions. In this case, experimental data were fitted to a magnetic model based on a symmetrical butterfly arrangement to give a copperii–copperii exchange coupling of JkB −350.0 K and a copperii–radical exchange coupling of JkB −21.3 K, similar to that observed for the copperii–radical interactions in complexes 1, 2and 3.

Abstract

New conducting bilayer films (BL-film) containing (BEDT-TTF)2(IxBr1-x)3 molecular metals as active components have been prepared. The effect of various parameters of the BL-film preparation on the conducting layer composition was systematically studied by X-ray, Raman, EPR, and SEM. It was shown that the conducting layer of new BL-films is formed by “c” oriented (BEDT-TTF)2(IxBr1-x)3 nanocrystals which contain a set of the IBr2-, I2Br-, and/or I3- anions. It was found that the α‘ → β phase transition takes place in the (BEDT-TTF)2(IxBr1-x)3 nanocrystals under film annealing. Some of the new composite BL-films, being flexible and transparent, reveal a metal-like temperature dependence of resistance down to nitrogen temperature.

49. Synthesis and Characterization of a Nanoscopic Molecular-Scale Wire Bearing Terminal Redox-Active Polychlorotriphenylmethyl Radicals

Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of a new nanoscopic diradical species with a long radical-to-radical distance of 3.2 nm, are reported. Intramolecular electron-transfer phenomena in the radical anion derived from the partial reduction of such diradical are studied by optical and ESR spectroscopies. These experiments showed a very small or negligible electronic coupling between the two terminal redox sites due to strong localization effects associated to the excellent electron acceptor ability of polychlorotriphenylmethyl radicals.
