Climate trends and weather indicators are used in several research fields due to their importance in statistical modeling, frequently used as covariates. Usually, climate indicators are available as grid files with different spatial and time resolutions. The availability of a time series of climate indicators compatible with administrative boundaries is scattered in Brazil, not fully available for several years, and produced with diverse methodologies. In this paper, we propose time series of climate indicators for the Brazilian municipalities produced using zonal statistics derived from the ERA5-Land reanalysis indicators. As a result, we present datasets with zonal statistics of climate indicators with daily data, covering the period from 1950 to 2022.

Background: Dermatologic diseases are one of the most frequent health conditions. The impact on the quality of life of patients is evident and the negative effects on health can range from psychological and physical incapacity to even death. Because of the serious impact that dermatologic diseases can have on one's health, prevention and treatment of these conditions should be urgently included in global health strategies. Advancing scientific knowledge about traditional techniques has been gaining acknowledgement due to the contributions they can provide to global health. Objective: This study aims to analyse the current evidence on the effectiveness of traditional Chinese phytopharmacology (herbal medicine) on dermatologic conditions and to inform potential applications within western healthcare settings. Methodology: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane, Science Direct and Scielo databases to identify randomized clinical trials on Chinese herbal medicine for dermatologic conditions. Studies with low or moderate quality were excluded. Results: Our literature search yielded 151 studies, 135 after the removal of duplicates. After title and abstract screening, 38 studies were selected for retrieval. Full-text and quality assessment was performed on 33 studies, and 18 studies were included in the final analysis. Conclusions: Evidence suggests that Chinese phytopharmacology can be used as a complementary treatment for some dermatologic conditions. Major benefits seem to exist due to the presence of components that possess anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory action, as well as immunomodulatory effects. More studies should be conducted to confirm the complementary benefits of Chinese phytopharmacology for dermatologic conditions. Este artigo objetivou discutir se haveria ou não coerência entre o que os Ministros do STF ensinam em suas doutrinas e aquilo que eles decidem em casos difíceis enquanto juízes constitucionais, considerando as polêmicas levantadas pelo paradigma neoconstitucional. Para tanto, construiu-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental amparada no método hipotético-dedutivo. Acreditava-se inicialmente que o grau de coerência entre o ensinado e o decidido oscilaria conforme os interesses extrajurídicos em jogo. Para testar essa hipótese, a pesquisa foi estruturada em três partes. Na primeira, foram debatidos os principais elementos que compõem esse paradigma. Na segunda, analisou-se as doutrinas dos Ministros Mendes, Moraes e Barroso. Na terceira, foram estudados os votos deles na ADO 26 – sobre a equiparação da homotransfobia ao crime de racismo, e na ADI 5.526 – sobre a aplicabilidade de cautelares penais aos congressistas. Ao final, refutou-se a hipótese levantada, pois o grau de vinculação às ideias e métodos neoconstitucionais manifestado pelos Ministros em suas respectivas doutrinas também foi verificado nas ações analisadas. Como reflexão final, a pesquisa aponta para a necessidade de pesquisar empiricamente a atuação da jurisdição constitucional como forma de fiscalizá-la e controlá-la democraticamente.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can damage cardiac tissue by increasing troponin levels and inducing arrhythmias, myocarditis, and acute coronary syndrome. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the impact of COVID-19 on cardiac autonomic control in mechanically ventilated intensive care unit (ICU) patients. DESIGN AND SETTING: This cross-sectional analytical study of ICU patients of both sexes receiving mechanical ventilation was conducted in a tertiary hospital. METHODS: Patients were divided into COVID-19-positive (COVID(+)) and COVID-19-negative (COVID(-)) groups. Clinical data were collected and heart rate variability (HRV) records obtained using a heart rate monitor. RESULTS: The study sample comprised 82 subjects: 36 (44%) in the COVID(-) group (58.3% female; median age, 64.5 years) and 46 (56%) in the COVID(+) group (39.1% females; median age, 57.5 years). The HRV indices were lower than the reference values. An intergroup comparison identified no statistically significant differences in the mean normal-to-normal (NN) interval, standard deviation of the NN interval, or root mean square of successive differences in NN intervals. The COVID(+) group had an increased low frequency (P = 0.05), reduced high frequency (P = 0.045), and increased low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio (P = 0.048). There was a weak positive correlation between LF/HF and length of stay in the COVID(+) group. CONCLUSION: Patients who received mechanical ventilation had lower overall HRV indices. COVID(+) patients who received mechanical ventilation had lower vagal HRV components. These findings likely indicate clinical applicability, as autonomic control impairments are associated with a greater risk of cardiac death.

Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) is a new type of wireless technology that offers long range communication for devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) and LoRaWAN is one of the main technologies currently available to enable LPWAN environments. In the LoRaWAN architecture, the Join Server is a key component and is responsible for security tasks, such as authentication and key management. However, the Join Server acts as a Single Point of Failure (SPOF) since all encryption keys are stored centrally. Then, this paper presents a secure and fault-tolerant architecture to increase the levels of security and availability in LoRaWAN. A permissioned blockchain and smart contracts are used to replace the Join Server and solve the SPOF problem. A working prototype was created using open-source tools in order to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed architecture. Additionally, the performance of a blockchain network was analyzed in a cloud environment under multiple workloads and fault-tolerance experiments were performed to evaluate the impact of network failures. The results show a trade-off between availability and performance when choosing the number of blockchain peers in small scenarios. However, this behavior is reversed in large scenarios where the performance of multiple peers is best suited.

Background Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) has become the standard treatment for congenital hydrocephalus. In the neurosurgical practice, it is a common procedure which usually results in low rates of complication. However, some serious complications can occur, including infections, intestinal perforation, and even death.

Abstract Introduction: Heart transplantation (HTx) is the gold standard procedure for selected individuals with refractory heart failure. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is safe and allows patients to exercise in high intensity for longer time when compared to moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT). The primary aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis about the effect of HIIT compared to MICT on exercise capacity, peak heart rate, and heart rate reserve in HTx recipients. Secondarily, we pooled data comparing MICT and no exercise training in these patients. Methods: This systematic review followed the standardization of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses statement and the Cochrane Collaboration Handbook. We presented the treatment effects of HIIT on the outcomes of interest as mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Introduction Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is a tumor originated from the epithelium of the glandular excretory ducts and has highly variable biological potential. The present report aims to describe a case of nasal mucoepidermoid carcinoma that developed after adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) treatment of a recurrent pituitary macroadenoma. Objetivo: Comparar, por meio de instrumento específico (Malnutrition Inflammation Score - MIS) e recordatório alimentar, o perfil nutricional de pacientes com Insuficiência Renal Crônica (IRC) em hemodiálise com e sem Hiperparatireoidismo Secundário (HPT2). Métodos: estudo transversal com 204 pacientes com IRC em hemodiálise com e sem HPT2. O estado nutricional foi avaliado por meio do instrumento MIS e a ingesta alimentar por recordatório 24h, sendo dados deste último analisados pelo software Avanutri®. Resultados: Do total de pacientes, 136 tinham HPT2 e 68 não tinham, sendo a maioria do sexo masculino, etilistas e sedentários. Em relação ao MIS, o número de pacientes com pontuação > 6 (indicando risco nutricional) foi de 48,5% para aqueles sem HPT2 e 49,3% para os com HPT2, porém, não houve diferença estatística entre esses grupos (p >0,05). Com relação ao consumo de micronutrientes, identificou-se que as pessoas com IRC e HPT2 consumiram em maior quantidade todos os micronutrientes, com exceção a vitamina B12. No que diz respeito aqueles micronutrientes que podem intervir diretamente no HPT2, a vitamina D e o fósforo foram significativamente mais consumidos pelo grupo com IRC e HPT2. Conclusão: Não houve diferença estatística no estado nutricional de pacientes com IRC em hemodiálise com e sem HPT2. Os pacientes com IRC e HPT2 consumiram em maior quantidade todos os micronutrientes, em especial de vitamina D e fósforo, porém mantiveram os níveis séricos adequados podendo indicar, o atendimento de recomendações específicas para tratamento do HPT2.

Abstract The Aptian Crato Formation is world renowned for its well-preserved fossils in microbially-induced laminated limestones, which are regarded as one of the main Cretaceous Konservat-Lagerstätte of the geological record. Detailed stratigraphic investigation and mapping of the up to 90-m-thick Crato Formation at the eastern border of the Araripe Plateau allowed recognition of a regionally persistent fossil-bearing muddy interval, herein defined as the Caldas Bed. At its type locality, it is defined as an up to 2-m-thick coarsening-upward succession of grey/green mudstone and interbedded sandy siltstone and claystone. The 0.85- to 2-m-thick interval was recognized in several localities along the outcrop belt, and it is bounded by sharp, lower (Konservat-Lagerstätte limestone) and upper (sandstone and heterolithic facies) contacts. Despite previous literature data suggesting the presence of marine mollusks, the bed contains freshwater bivalves, small gastropods, spinicaudatans, plant remains, trace fossils, and rare ostracods. The Caldas Bed records benthic paleocommunities representing a short-term isochronous regional freshening event, marked by abrupt changes in sedimentation pattern, bathymetry, salinity, oxygenation and water chemistry.

This study aimed to evaluate how the surrounding vegetation affects the assemblage of fruit flies. For this, flies were collected in guava orchards with distinct types of surrounding vegetation (exotic pasture, native forest and fruit tree intercropping). The experiment was conducted in Itaporã and Dourados, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Weekly samples were collected from March to April 2015. McPhail traps were baited with 5% hydrolyzed corn protein. Species richness, diversity index and abundance were evaluated for each orchard, as well as the species composition of fruit fly between the environments surrounding the orchard and, finally, the sex ratio. A total of 579 individuals were collected of the species Anastrepha fraterculus, A. montei, A. obliqua, A. sororcula, A. striata, A. turpiniae and A. zenildae. The orchard surrounded by native forest had the highest species richness and Shannon diversity. The species composition differed between environments, with the formation of three distinct groups. The environment surrounding the guava orchard influences the richness, diversity, abundance and sex ratio of fruit flies, indicating that the native forest may provide more resources for the maintenance of these insects.

Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) is one of the enabling technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT), and focuses on providing long distance connectivity for a vast amount of smart devices. Currently, LoRa is one of the leading LPWAN solutions available for public use. In LPWANs, especially in LoRa, security is a major concern due to the resource constraints of the devices, the sensitivity level of the transmitted data, the large amount of connected devices, among other reasons. This paper studies the key management mechanism of LoRaWAN environments. A secure architecture for key management based on smart contracts and permissioned blockchain to enhance security and availability in LoRaWAN networks is proposed. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed blockchain-based LoRaWAN architecture, a working prototype has been created using open-source tools and commodity hardware. Performance analysis shows that the prototype presents similar execution time and latency values, when compared to a traditional system, especially for small and medium-sized LoRaWAN networks. We also discuss why the proposed solution can be used in environments with a large number of end-devices.

Diferentes métodos criados para a avaliação dos movimentos da musculatura facial variam quanto à subjetividade e confiabilidade. Discute-se a praticidade na utilização na clínica diária ou a precisão para uso em pesquisa científica. OBJETIVO: Obter um padrão de contração dos músculos faciais em indivíduos normais por meio de um método objetivo, o sistema Vicon. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Em 12 indivíduos, marcadores refletivos foram colocados em pontos de interesse na face. Os movimentos foram capturados por câmeras que enviaram as imagens para um computador. Foram medidos os deslocamentos dos pontos e calculadas as médias e os desvio padrão (DP). RESULTADOS: Ficou demonstrado que, ao sorrir, a variação deverá ser de 6,45 a 12,11 mm, média de 9,28 mm e DP de 2,83; ao enrugar a testa, a variação deverá ser de 6,00 a 13,08 mm, média de 10,57 mm e DP de 2,51; ao movimentar a pálpebra, a variação devera ser de 6,89 a 11,29 mm, média de 9,09 mm e DP de 2,20; ao franzir a testa, a variação deverá ser de 4,26 a 10,85 mm, média de 7,56 mm e DP 3,29. CONCLUSÃO: Foram obtidos os padrões normais de contração dos músculos faciais.Different methods used to evaluate the movements of the face have many degrees of subjectivity and reliability. The authors discuss the ease of using these methods in clinical practice or their accuracy in scientific research. AIM: To obtain the standard for normal facial muscles movements using an objective method - the Vicon system. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Light reflective markers were placed at points of interest on the face of 12 normal subjects. The movements were captured by cameras that sent the images to a computer. The points' displacements were measured between rest and maximum muscle contraction; and we calculated the means and the standard deviations (SD) were calculated. RESULTS: When smiling, the variation of the oral commissures was between 6.45 and 12.11 mm, mean of 9.28 mm and SD od 2.83; for lifting the eyebrow, it is between 6.0 and 13.08 mm, mean of 10.57 mm and SD of 2.51; for eyelids movement there was a variation of 6.89 and 11.29 mm, with a mean value of 9.09 mm and SD of 2.20; for the movement of wrinkling the forehead, the results showed a variation of 4.16 and 10.85 mm, with a mean value of 7.56 and SD of 3.29. CONCLUSION: The authors obtained normal patterns for facial muscle contraction.

Spatially misaligned data can be fused by using a Bayesian melding model that assumes that underlying all observations there is a spatially continuous Gaussian random field. This model can be employed, for instance, to forecast air pollution levels through the integration of point data from monitoring stations and areal data derived from satellite imagery. However, if the data present preferential sampling, that is, if the observed point locations are not independent of the underlying spatial process, the inference obtained from models that ignore such a dependence structure may not be valid. In this paper, we present a Bayesian spatial model for the fusion of point and areal data that takes into account preferential sampling. Fast Bayesian inference is performed using the integrated nested Laplace approximation and the stochastic partial differential equation approaches. The performance of the model is assessed using simulated data in a range of scenarios and sampling strategies that can appear in real settings. ABSTRACT Alzheimer’s disease (AD) affects millions of people, however, there is still no effective treatment. The use of focused ultrasound with microbubbles (FUS-MB) for the opening of the blood-brain barrier has been recently studied and may become a promising therapeutic target. Objective: To discuss the use of FUS-MB for the treatment of AD and to present some of the techniques used. Methods: A systematic review was performed of MEDLINE/PubMed and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) services, using the keywords: focused ultrasound, Alzheimer, amyloid-b. Original articles were included in the study; studies that did not focus on Alzheimer’s treatment were excluded. Results: Fifteen original studies were selected. Preclinical trials were able to reduce amyloid-b plaques and tau phosphorylation, improving cognitive performance in AD animals. Conclusion: The results are very promising, but the therapy still requires maturation. Further studies are needed to systematize all the techniques used and their effects in order to enable use in humans.

INTRODUÇÃO: A fisioterapia na fase I da reabilitação cardiovascular (FTCV) pode ser iniciada de 12 a 24 horas após o infarto agudo do miocárdio (IAM), no entanto, é comum o repouso prolongado no leito em razão do receio de instabilização do paciente. OBJETIVOS: Avaliar as respostas autonômicas e hemodinâmicas de pacientes pós-IAM submetidos ao primeiro dia de protocolo de FTCV fase I, bem como sua segurança. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Foram estudados 51 pacientes com primeiro IAM não complicado, 55 ± 11 anos, 76% homens. Foram submetidos ao primeiro dia do protocolo de FTCV fase I, em média 24 horas pós-IAM. A frequência cardíaca (FC) instantânea e os intervalos R-R do ECG foram captados pelo monitor de FC (Polar®S810i) e a pressão arterial (PA) aferida pelo método auscultatório. A variabilidade da FC foi analisada nos domínios do tempo (RMSSD e RMSM dos iR-R em ms) e da frequência. A densidade espectral de potência foi expressa em unidades absolutas (ms²/Hz) e normalizada (un) para as bandas de baixa (BF) e alta frequência (AF) e pela razão BF/AF. RESULTADOS: O índice RMSSD, a AF e a AFun apresentaram redução na execução dos exercícios em relação ao repouso pré e pós-exercício (p < 0,05), a BFun e a razão BF/AF aumentaram (p < 0,05). A FC e a PA sistólica apresentaram aumento durante a execução dos exercícios em relação ao repouso (p < 0,05). Não foi observado qualquer sinal e/ou sintoma de intolerância ao esforço. CONCLUSÕES: O exercício realizado foi eficaz, pois promoveu alterações hemodinâmicas e na modulação autonômica nesses pacientes, sem ocasionar qualquer intercorrência clínica.
